"Folktek magnetic insectarium. Works great and in great condition. Great bizarre noises! 9v battery pictured for size reference. This isn't a normal Synthesizer so please know what you are getting into. It works. Some combinations of patching don't seem to make audible changes and some are drastic. Not a normal Synthesizer, I can't stress it enough."

XILS Lab PolyM Sound Demo - Moog Polymoog Emulation For PC & Mac

Mirage Gritty Pads - Ensoniq Mirage DSK

Published on Jul 1, 2017 100 Things I Do

"The Ensoniq Mirage, 8bit , 128k memory and 320kb floppy disks! Mine is a Asia-Pacific example. I guess they took the idea of the soft touch keys from the DX-7. Plastic with no notable buttons.. but they hide a small hole that has a real (and replaceable) tact switch underneath (no broken membrane problems here).

I have been following The Daydream Sound on youtube for quite some time. His passion for Ensoniq gear, samplers and music creation is very addictive . Its has opened my eyes to what we lost in sampling over the year and how to use limitations of this vintage kit to add flavour , grit and get things to just sit in a mix!"

Jean-Jacques Perrey et son Ondioline

My copy of Jean-Jacques Perrey et son Ondioline has arrived! Here are a few "unboxing" pics. I am actually listening to it as I type this. The first side features Jean-Jacques music and is spectacular. The second side features his demos of the individual sounds of the Ondioline. If you are a fan, or even just interested in Jean-Jacques Perrey and the Ondioline, I highly recommend this release. The Deluxe Vinyl LP is a gatefold and comes with a very nice quality booklet on Jean-Jacques Perrey and the Ondioline. See below for a pic of the inside cover and back. The clear vinyl itself looks like pristine glass. You can tell the care that went into this release. See my previous post with details here, or you can go directly to the Bandcamp release page here.

Tuning the Odyssey is a serious WARP to the

Your choice! But you will find yourself in between
REAL QUICK! What an awesome synthesizer!!!
As you can hear, the BASS in this video is a
mix between Dance, Old School, Industrial, Dub...
It is a MONSTER PEOPLE!! Turn it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Stargate' footage from '2001: a Space Odyssey'
dropped into a vat of virtual LSD.. for your sensory pleasure!
I love tweaking video!!

Recorded into an ART MULTIVERB LT (Reverb & Delay)

Modular Jam : Flight of the Long Lost : Tides, Rings, Peaks, Ripples, Clouds, 4ms SMR

Published on Jul 1, 2017 Mike Thomas

"Flight of the Long Lost: Patch Notes
VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

A modular performance featuring my giant right arm, and mostly Mutable Instruments modules.

Involved modules
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Intellijel 1U Random/Clock
4ms Rotating Clock Divider (RCD) and Breakout
Mutable Instruments (MI) Rings
MI Clouds
MI Rings
MI Veils
MI Tides
2 x MI Peaks
4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator
TipTop ONE
Intellijel 1U Quadratt
Intellijel 1U Buffered Mult
Intellijel 1U Digitank Reverb
2hp Reverb
2hp Delay
2hp 3:1
Transient Modules 6ch Mixer
Pittsburgh Outs

Routing/Control
-----------------------
As you can see from the video, I did a lot of manual wiggling for this jam. But there’s a background of random modulation going on via massively multed and modulated slewed random.

Smooth voice: Tides in oscillator mode, Bi output. Shape, Slope, and Smoothness modulated by semi-random LFO from Peaks #1 channel 1, which is in turn modulated (via Veils) by multed 1U Random slewed output, attenuated via Quadratt. Envelope by Peaks #1 channel 1, with manual changes here and there. Lots of manual wiggling of the wave shape controls. V/oct driven by O+C in Quantermain mode. Output into 1hp Delay, then Verb, and on to mixers.

Various melodic bits: Rings in sympathetic strings mode, polyphony mode 1. Rings Brightness, Damping, Position modulated by multed slewed random from above (lots of Stackcable hopscotch going on!). Lots of wiggling of parameters including Structure. Output into Clouds in looping delay mode. Clouds triggered by /8 of RCD (“Spread” is on, so I guess it’s really /16?). Occasional wiggling of the regeneration/feedback control.

Rhythm: Tiptop ONE timed by RCD.

Background Drone: 4ms SMR in self-generating resonator mode, with Rotation and Spread modulated by multed Random output of 1U Intellijel Clock/Random, attenuated via Quadratt. Output mixed with rhythm track via Quadratt, on to 1U Digitank reverb, and final mix.

Sequencing/Timing
-----------------------
Everything timed by RCD getting its clock from the 1U Clock/Random module.

Audio/Video Notes
=========
Camera: Sony A6000 mounting a Leica 28mm Summicron-R

Audio recorded on a Zoom H2 using the mic input (the line input is busted). Managed to avoid distortion except at about 09:36. Bummer, but I think I actually distorted the Delay or Verb module, rather than the H2 being overloaded.

Edited in Apple iMovie."

ALTAIR 231-Soviet MiniMoog Model D SN 3346

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Altair 231 is an almost identical copy of the famous Moog Minimoog, made in the former Soviet Union. Biggest difference in sound is caused by different brand of components: Russian equivalents are used everywhere. The oscillator board is based on the older version. However, the Russians were clever and used multi-turn potentiometers for the scaling controls. Result: Synth stays in tune better. The Russians didn't seem to have reverse log pots. Because of that, the resonance control was wired backwards and a regular logarithmic pot was used instead. Other than that, the synth seems to be very robust and easy to service - the real Mini schematics come for good help when comparing the component numbers etc. It sounds like a Mini!"

FORMANTA UDS Rare Soviet Vintage Analog Drum-Module Synthesizer

"Soviet analogue drum synth Formanta UDS with beatbox drummachine and a built-in beatbox with 16 patterns. You can switch every drum sound channel to its preset sound or switch it in "synthesis" mode and then control channel's parameters by 8 knobs. The synth was made on the same factory as legendary Polivoks was. The beatbox and the synthesizer are independent modules so they can work at the same time freely. Each of five drum channels have polivoks filter. High-hat and cymbal have there own channels. 7 audio in connectors on the rear panel for each drum channel - mono audio out, left /right out. Pedal inputs. All connectors are on standard 1/4 '' jack. There is also a stereo output. You can use trigger module inputs to send signal from an external device through synchro impuls. All drums and high-hat work well. Cymbal works quieter than other. Inside on the resistors of each drum line there are full ADSR polivoks filter. If you wish, you can make a modd and take it out with knobs. All knobs are clean, without noise. Also look foto with English translation of face panel."

The Digitakt is here, and the Octatrack just got a new MKII update. Which one to choose!? They are overlapping in what they can do, but I think they are different enough to justify that Elektron keeps selling both of them.

So here's a mega workflow comparison video where I'm comparing them side by side in a number of aspects. It's a bit long, but if you're interested in this stuff, I hope you'll find the video interesting.
