(Atmospheric/Ambient) - "Snowstorm/Visitation" (OB-6)

Published on Jul 7, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Try with headphones. The imagery is: imagine being out in the wilderness, alone at night, caught in a blizzard/snowstorm. During this blizzard, beings of light descend/can be seen through the storm. Aliens/angels etc - choose as of your own preferred imagery.

They are benign yet curious - they come close to us, then slowly recede, and we return to the desolation of ourselves, and nature/the storm.

Hrarmonically I'm playing with major 9 chords over a IV-I progression, which is then sequenced a tone lower. I'm happy with the sequence pattern/patch I made on the Obi. Sounds good.

I normally create something then bin it, rather than saving a patch. I like the momentary nature of each idea when at the synth.

PS this piece is better to listen to than to watch. But for the sake of recording the performance, I felt it best to upload the video rather than a still image.

Prophet 6 synthesizer - Hammond organ patch - Dave Smith Instruments Sequential

Published on Jul 7, 2018 Tom Loncaric

"The only audio you're hearing on this video is from the Prophet 6, with its internal chorus used for the Leslie simulation. There is an HX3 organ module in the background, but I only used it as a basis to create the patch on the Prophet 6."

The Linn LM-1: The Drum Machine that changed everything

Published on Jul 7, 2018 Alex Ball

"This is the story of the Linn LM-1, the world's first ever digital drum machine. Iconic and incredibly rare, you're unlikely to ever see one (only 500 ever made). One was on sale that had bizarrely been found in a communal bin! The seller was generous enough to let me test it and film it briefly before it went.

Here's a link to the samples recorded from it:

Zero Zero Island - New Song in Progress w/ Ableton Push 2 & Eurorack

Published on Jul 7, 2018 zerozero island

"Like the title says, I'm just throwing together arrangement ideas right now, the song is very ROUGH. But it was the first idea i came up with, only a few minutes after plugging in my Ableton Push 2 for the first time. The Eurorack is mostly handling the bass via the Roland 512 VCO and Erica Polyvoks VCF. It needs a lot of work, but hopefully it'll end up a finished song eventually."

USB MIDI controller charging the iPad / iPhone at the same time?

Published on Apr 25, 2018 Marcus Padrini

"Using the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter (Apple) it is possible to connect USB controllers to the iPad / iPhone and charge the device at the same time!

In addition, the adapter may solve some cases where the USB controller is not normally powered by the iOS device.

A good tip to play with music apps without worrying about the iPhone or iPad battery!"

Published on Jul 7, 2018 100 Things I Do

"I thought I would do a clip that shows patch creation on the OB-Mx from 'initial conditions' all the way to a final Timbre.

The Oberheim OB-Mx is a really amazing synth. Its a little unorthodox in places, for example if you take the oscillator above 15 of 100 in volume it starts to saturate, above 27 it starts to FM and almost ring modulate with the second oscillator in a very pleasing and unique way! The MM & OB Filters perform in ways you might not expect. The VCA offset is an awesome feature I wish more synths have, with this you can bypass the VCA and just drone to your hearts content. The Oscillators can sound like silk or Sandpaper, you can get sounds that range from Prophet 5 and CS-80 or some of those Classic Oberheim tones if you work hard. A very unique synth I think will be with me for a very long time!

Soundtoys Echo Boy & Lexicon MPX550 reverb was used on this clip!"

Quanta - Granular Synth by Audio Damage : First look

Published on Jul 4, 2018 ADSR Music Production Tutorials

"Quanta is a full-featured ten-voice true stereo granular synthesizer, with up to a hundred 1000ms grains per voice, and full control over the grain state, with direct randomization and modulation of most parameters. Drag-and-drop a sample (WAV, AIFF, Ogg, or FLAC) on to the window and go to work.

With two multi-mode filters (with LP, HP, BP and notch in 2-pole and 4-pole topologies), and a "sidecar" virtual-analog oscillator and noise generator that can be used in addition to, or injected into, the grain engine, Quanta is a fully capable subtractive synth in its own right, and will work as a granular or subtractive (or both) synth without any sample at all.

Quanta has mod coming out its ears. First up are four of our new FEGs (Flexible Envelope Generator), a 99-point looping function generator with optional host tempo sync. Then add two arbitrary-waveshape LFOs, a multi-source sample-and-hold module, and fully user-controllable MIDI assignments, with nearly every control on the panel as a destination.

Quanta is customizable to your taste and playing style. With full MPE support, it can take advantage of the extended control set of your Linnstrument, Seaboard, Soundplane, Continuum, or other MPE controller, and support for TUN files lets you use tuning tables. The resizable Hi-DPI GUI lets you adjust the size to match your visual needs, and the cross-platform preset mechanism lets you share your creations with your friends and collaborators, no matter what system they are using."

X1L3 - WRECKAGE - power electronics and harsh noise eurorack module

Published on Jul 7, 2018 X1L3

"A skim through the components of wreckage.

Originally given away with the first ten shard modules sold. The internals have been re worked to run at about ten times the speed of the initial design. Making for a somewhat more brutal and psychotic animal :)

Both flying solo and with cv modulation support from several soundmachines LP1 lightplane modules..To wrap it up it's put side by side with a shard module, being fed into the shard audio input.

6 x oscillators - 3 x fragments 3 x shards. CV over pitch of each osc with built in attenuation.
Atrophy chaos amplification.

Presented here in a few short sessions. Initially all hands on and later using cv automation and manual manipulation to make it do what it does best.

Clean through the run with no fx other than the intro section and fade out."

Doepfer A-196 Phase Locked Loop [Episode 69]

Published on Jul 7, 2018 CatSynth TV

"An explanation and demo of the often misunderstood Doepfer A-196 Phase Locked Loop (PLL) module. We give a brief definition of a PLL, and show how this maps to the different sections of the module. We then launch into a series of demos of the A-196, first with a simple square wave input, then a more complex signal from the Sputnik Dual Oscillator, and finally the Arturia MiniBrute 2 (with the Brute Factor turned up). Throughout, we explore the different phase-comparitor options on the module, including the basic XOR and more complex proprietary circuit.

Scope provided by Mordax DATA module. In all examples, the input signal is red and the A-196 PLL signal is green.

For more synthesizer demos, please subscribe to this channel and visit

From Doepfer's website on A-196:
"this is how a pll works: the output of the internal vco (linear cv control, rectangle output) is compared with an external signal (e.g. the rectangle output of a a-110 vco) in the so-called phase comparator (pc). the output of the phase comparator is a digital signal (low/high/tristate) that indicates if the frequency resp. phase difference of the two input signals is negative, zero or positive. the output of the phase comparator is processed by a low pass filter (lpf) to generate a smooth voltage that is used to control the frequency of the internal vco. the 3 units vco, pc and lpf form a feedback loop that works like this: the control voltage (output of the lpf) increases as long as the external frequency is higher than the frequency of the internal vco und stops increasing when both frequencies become identical. the control voltage decreases as long as the external frequency is lower than the frequency of the internal vco und stops decreasing when both frequencies become identical"

WORNG LRMSMSLR Mid-Side Encoder-Decoder Thonk DIY KIT Build+Patch Test - Eurorack Synth DIY

Published on Jul 7, 2018 SonicVoltage

"WORNG Electronics LRMSMSLR Mid-Side Encoder-Decoder Eurorack Module 'Thonk' DIY KIT Build Steps and Test Patch Video (2018)

Mid/side processing is extremely useful and common practice in mixing and mastering. It allows you to process the Mid Content and Side content of your stereo signal independently. For example, in the patch I used to test my WORNG LRMSMSLR DIY KIT purchased from I use the LRMSMSLR Eurorack Module to add AJH GEMINI 2412 Filtering to the Mid content of my stereo signal and only to the Mid Content. At the same time I am adding Fuzz Distortion only to the Side content of the stereo signal by sending the SIDE signal through the Retro Mechanical Labs Electron Fuzz Custom EFCCV Eurorack Module

But that’s just the start, there is a lot you can do with the ability to press Mid and Side content of a stereo signal, the WORNG LRMSMSLR is an extremely useful tool opening up a lot of creative doors.
