54HP Episode 7: Touch Synth

Published on Jul 13, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"After a short break 54HP is back with a touch controlled synth voice on episode 7. The only sound generator is a Mutable Instruments Plaits run through a 2HP Verb. The other three modules in the case focus on touch controls. The Intellijel Tetrapad in fader mode has four faders which each output both fader position and pressure. The Trogotronic M11 is a simple touch button but it has a great tactile feel can can also be used as a VCA or CV processor. The Sound Machines LP1 Lightplane not only has outputs for X & Y positions and pressure, but has a built in recorder feature so you can loop your touch control gestures. This system shows how playable a eurorack system can be without using any sequencers or non human controlled modulation sources.

Roland Juno-66

via this auction

"Check out the coolest synthesizer, straight from the 80's. The Juno-6 with the highly coveted Tubbutec Midi Modification, allowing an array of different functions including Midi capabilities - which was not a stock option.

*In Addition to the Tubbutec Mod, the key bender was also replaced with a clear, LED red light up key bender (pictured).

The first in Roland's classic Juno line of more affordable polysynths, the Juno-6 offers six voices of polyphony with a single digitally controlled analog oscillator, with sub-oscillator, per voice and patch wide analog chorus effects to thicken sounds. Features rich analog tone and stable tuning

The Juno-66 is an upgrade for Roland Juno-6 and Juno-60 synthesizers. It turns your Juno into a powerful Juno-66 synthesizer with midi and a lot of additional features.

Main features

Midi in- and output. Can output key presses, arpeggiator, Powerarp and chord memory.
Additional play modes: Polyphonic, Duophonic, Three-Voice, Two Monophonic modes, Chord Memory and Polychord. The Mono- and Duophonic modes feature adjustable fatness
Portamento for all play modes with adjustable speed and behaviour
Powerarp: A powerful sequencer that includes breaks and note lengths and can be triggered by the arp clock, trigger, midi clock or midi trigger. Features various direction, transpose and random modes.
Two additional filter LFOs: A triangular LFO with a frequency of up to 2.2kHz and a S/H style LFO with various clock sources.
A second ADSR for the filter.
Detuning. Turns your Juno into an organic analogue synth.
Alternative tunings: Select from a range of non-equal tempered tunings or upload a custom scale.
Midi filter, pitch bend, arp and portamento control.
Settings via an internal configuration menu or external midi controller.
Extra features accessible using the existing Juno controls
Comes with sticker overlays and all necessary parts
For a complete list of features please refer to the user manual.
Some features in more detail

The Juno-66 adds additional play modes to the existing 6-voice polyphonic mode.
The Duophonic mode layers 3 oscillators for each voice and slightly detunes them. The result is a fatter sound, often called supersaw or supersquare. The amount of fatness can be adjusted.
The two Monophonic modes layer all six oscillators to create an even thicker sound. The fatness is adjustable. You can also select between two envelope retrigger behaviours.
Chord Memory lets you define a chord of your choice with up to six notes. You can then play and transpose it using the keyboard.
Polychord lets you assign an individual chord to each key of the keyboard. You can play the chords using the keyboard.

The Powerarp is a built in sequencer. A new sequence can be quickly entered and can also include breaks and different note lengths. The sequencer can then be triggered by various clock sources. The sequence can be transposed using the keyboard and shifted forth and back in time.
Forward, backward, forward-backward and three different random modes can be selected and the sequence automatically transposed over two octaves.
An external trigger, the internal arp clock, midi note trigger and midi clock are possible trigger sources. A divider for the midi clock can be set and adjusted in real time without losing sync.

A polyphonic portamento that works in all play modes including chord memory and Polychord!
You can adjust the speed and two preset speeds are directly accessible via a switch on the synth.
The portamento is linear on a musical scale and you can select between constant time or constant speed behaviour.
A special algorithm makes sure that even in Polychord mode the portamento sounds natural."

Oberheim OB-X Vintage Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer

via this auction

Imagine strapping that around your neck as a keytar. I remember the first time I heard Edgar Winter played the ARP 2600 as a keytar, and thinking that was insane. It wasn't until I saw a video and some pics that I realized it was just the keyboard.

"Here is classic vintage polyphonic synthesizer from the best years of poly synths. If you know the OB series well then you know that the OB-X is the best sounding of all of them thanks to it's largely discrete voice architecture lifted straight out of the SEM-based systems. The filters are supreme and, that bit of looseness in the tuning gives loads of thick and raw character while being edgy with bottom end that is just apocalyptic in size. All 8 voices are present and the unit is fully functional."

GARY NUMAN AUTOGRAPHED Casio XW-P1 w/ Prince "Synthesize Love" Sticker?

via this auction

"This might be the only keyboard synth in the world signed by the legendary Gary Numan! [Actually there are others] In 2016 we roomed next door to Gary Numan and family while staying in the same Aloft hotel during Moogfest (an international synthesizer and analog sound music festival). Moog Music was presenting Gary with a lifetime achievement award.

We were able to hang out with his sound crew and finally got to meet Gary who was so nice to sign my keyboard! We have several videos and photos to authenticate our meeting and his signature. We are even friends with him and his sound crew on Facebook now. I will be happy to email copies of video and photos to authenticate his autograph before/with purchase."

FieldScaper Version 2.0 Released

Published on Jul 13, 2018 Igor Vasiliev

"Advanced field recorder combined with a sound warp engine and a collection of ready to use dynamic presets for iPad and iPhone."

iTunes: FieldScaper - iMusicAlbum

"What's New

Jul 13, 2018 Version 2.0
With this update you can add rhythmic effects and distortions with using built-in step sequencer. The sequencer and LFOs can be synced with other apps and devices thru MIDI, Inter-App Audio or with Ableton Link. New parametric equalizer can isolate or suppress oscillators output in a certain frequency range so that they not interfere each other. Also you can pack scene and all its presets and samples to single file. This new feature is very useful for copying scene to another device or backup.

All changes:

● Added new presets.
● Ableton Link start / stop sync.
● Step sequencer for each oscillator.
● Parametric equalizer for each oscillator.
● Signal amplification before filters and EQ.
● Automatic gain control of output for each oscillator.
● Synced Sequencer / LFOs with Ableton Link, IAA, MIDI.
● Pack scene and all its samples / presets to single file.
● Ableton Link SDK 3.0.2 updated.
● Audiobus SDK 3.0.5 updated.
● Built-in description updated.
● Several minor bugs were fixed."

nonlinearcircuits Mogue mixer & VCA

via nonlinearcircuits:

"MOGUE is a VCA and Mixer based on early Moog designs, with some mods to get them into ‘Eurorack standards’ (!). Both circuits can be overdriven to get some wave-shaping action. The mixer can handle CV and audio but the VCA is audio only (tho feel free to place links instead of the capacitors to make it work for DC). Some users consider these 2 modules are an inherent part of the legendary Moog sound…maybe; I just wanted to use up all my LM394.

PCB set = USD23
Panel = USD20
assembled = USD190"

SSF DETECT-Rx Filter Mod Demo

Published on Jul 13, 2018 SteadyStateFate

"Classic Envelope Follower Filter modulation example using the Steady State Fate DETECT-Rx

DETECT-Rx can respond to 3 general frequency ranges and adds an extra manual smoothing filter to control ripple and envelope dynamics.

The Envelope gain control can both attenuate and a large amount of gain to accommodate a wide range of input signal levels."

via SSF:

"The Detect-Rx is a versatile envelope follower, voltage controlled comparator (gate extractor) and rectifier providing many useful prescriptions to fill in your modular needs.

DETECT-R is the main input and provides an envelope output, rectified output and gate output simultaneously. If a second signal is also patched into the EXTRACT-R, it can be used separately.

The top two controls and switch alter the response of the resultant envelope. Any signal level from LINE (-10dBv) up to modular (+/-5 to +/-10V) may be used.

The FREQ switch selects the spectra in which the envelope will respond to dynamic changes from the input signal.

SMOOTH adds an additional ripple smoothing level control and tracks the FREQ setting

ENV GAIN controls the level of the envelope and is capable of attenuation as well as a lot of gain for low level input signals and even guitars (some pre-gain may be required for certain guitar pickups)

THRU provides a buffered copy of the input signal for easy patching of classic envelope follower applications and more

An LED is provided for visual feedback of the envelope and peak level (clipping) indication.
