"This particular DX5 is quite clean, considering the age (and weight) of it! The end cheeks, which are made from some sort of wood or wood composite and are coated with plastic, have a few chips here and there, but it is only cosmetic."

Sequential Artist Spotlight Interview with BRYN BLISKA

You can find the interview on Sequential's website here.

"Bryn Bliska is a musician, composer and producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Her sound merges a childhood soundtracked by ’90s pop and R&B jams with her jazz training and affinity for technology. Her creative mission is to support historically marginalized and underrepresented people and to amplify their sounds and stories.

Bryn frequently collaborates with artists & producers across many genres, including Jacob Collier, Karol G, Rozzi, Lawrence & Sofi Tukker. She has scored video & podcast projects for the New York Times, NPR, TED, and the Getty Museum, writes for Universal Production Music, and received the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award in recognition of her composition Bilateral.1. She is also a co-founder of nu.wav, an independent sample label distributed by Splice. Her Splice Originals sample pack, “Soul Jazz With Bryn Bliska,” reached the Top 10 of the Splice charts in Spring 2020. She also sound designs for Reason Studios.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Bryn graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in Neuroscience before spending a year as a Graduate Research Assistant in Tod Machover’s Opera of the Future group at the MIT Media Lab.

We chatted with Bryn on how she uses the Prophet Rev2 in her music"

Genesis Tonight Tonight Tonight COVER (extended version) with hardware synthesizer & NI Maschine

video upload by Sean Christopher Evoking Emotion with Synthesizers

"Tonight Tonight Tonight by Genesis is one of my favorite tracks from my teenage years in the 80's, so I knew I'd eventually have to cover it. This track was definitely the most work I've ever done for an 80's cover for sure. The hardware synths that I used for the piece are by Sequential, the Pro 3, Prophet 12, OB-6, and the Prophet 10 rev4. I also used The River by Baloran, a 002 by Modal Electronics, a Quantum by Waldorf, and finally the Super 6 by Udo Audio.

This cover took me several months, as my left arm is still not functioning right, and with daily pain still due to my Fed-Ex truck versus Sean accident back in late 2019, but luckily I'm leaning somewhat to work through the pain and discomfort...although more slowly than before unfortunately."

Doepfer R2M - Ribbon Controller and Control Unit SN 270043

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"R2Ms are discontinued and rare. Includes a manual but not a power supply (any generic 9VDC 250MA center pos PS will work)

Includes connecting cable (note this looks like a male to male USB cable but the instructions are VERY clear to NOT plug this into a USB adapter)

Key feature is that the ribbon and control unit send MIDI and CV out for location and pressure.

The ribbon controller can cover 1 octave, 2,3,4 or 5 octaves
It can store and retrieve 16 presets
It offers 16 different quantizations\ settings to different scales
It has a Trautonium mode allowing pitchbend around 1 starting note and sliding pitch up or down up to the pitch bend range of you MIDI device
It has an arpegiator spanning one or several octaves

R2M is a ribbon controller that generates control signals by moving a finger on the game manual . The data are output simultaneously as midi signals and as CV / gate control voltages. The R2M is thus able to control midi equipment as well as CV / gate-based devices (e.g. analog synthesizers or analog module systems). R2M stands for R ibbon to ( 2 ) MIDI.

This is used electronics, tested and non returnable. Only warranty is that it won't arrive DOA. Will ship tracked and insured.

R2M consists of two parts: the ribbon bar and the control unit .

Ribbon bar is a 50 cm long position sensor and a pressure sensor underneath. The control unit converts the data supplied by the manual (position of the finger and pressure) into appropriate midi commands or CV / gate voltages.

Here are the most important features of the R2M :
Very precise and sensitive position sensor (length 50 cm) that is activated by simply placing your finger on it
sensitive pressure sensor under the position sensor
Solid metal frame (interlaced double-U profile), painted silver-gray
Several M3 internal threads on all sides (e.g. for fixing to a surface, combined assembly of several manuals, attachment of a shoulder strap, etc.)
Dimensions: approx. 600 L x 30 W x 18 H (dimensions in mm)
Connection to the control unit via 4-pin cable (identical to USB, but no USB function!)
Connection cable
precise and sensitive position sensor (length 50 cm) that responds even to light finger touch
sensitive pressure sensor located below the position sensor
measures: about 600 length x 30 width x 18 height (measures in mm)
connection to the control box via 4-pin cable (same as used for USB connections but no USB function)"

Kawai K5 Synthesizer With Case and Ram Card

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The K5 is a digital synthesizer that employs additive synthesis harmonic-building as its method of sound creation. Basically, you can vary up to 126 harmonic levels generated by a sine wave via a bar-graph type graphic display to create, shape and change your sound. De-tuning can also be used to thicken or augment sounds too. In addition, each harmonic has an independent choice of four 6-stage envelopes for further tweaking and shaping. The K5 is also 15-part multi-timbral. Sounds can be split, layered, overlapped and de-tuned for creating thicker sounds or ensembles of instruments and sounds. It has 48 internal patches for memory storage as well as a 48 patch external memory card. There are also 48 patches for the multi-mode settings as well.

The K5 is very digital in its synthesis approach and its overall sound quality. However it has some surprisingly analog-like parameters. Its filter is a Dynamic Digital Filter that has familiar slope, cutoff, envelope amount, keyboard tracking and independent 6-stage envelope controls. The Digital Dynamic Amplifier is set up like a 6-stage envelope for overall sound shaping. The LFO has about six waveform shapes, speed, delay and a new Trend setting which is related to the delay parameter of the LFO. But programming Multi-Mode sounds is a bit more modern in its approach to synthesis than analogs and requires a bit of planning and experimenting.

It should be noted that the user interface makes it particularly difficult to program the K5 well. It's especially hard to tell the envelope-to-harmonic routings, and the various bits of nomenclature used by Kawai to indicate what does what can be a bit misleading. Nonetheless, the K5 is a very powerful instrument for creating digital sounds unlike any other. It works great in any MIDI studio or live situation due mostly in part to its multitimbral abilities, unique sounds and its approach to synthesis.

The lcd is still usable but lots of people replace these as they do fade and this is an old synth. Comes with the RAM memory card!"

"Tested and working with the power cord. Comes with the original memory card as well as the original manuals and input books for a number of different sounds ranging from deep bass to galaxy sounds and animal noises.

There is a bit of battery corrosion in the battery area in the back of the synthesiser which renders the battery power option inoperable, however it works with the power cord. The backside also has a few scuffs from normal use and age."

"This is one of my favourite portable combos:

Enjoy :)"

Pocket Operator Office Through A Lot Of Guitar Pedals – The Sequel

video upload by Brian Leahy Art

"It's been too long since we ran the unique Pocket Operator Office through a bunch of guitar effects pedals. Time for a sequel!

The Pocket Operator PO-24 Office by Teenage Engineering can produce some crushing, aggressive, and fun percussion sounds when you run it through guitar effects pedals like distortion, fuzz, and flanger. In this video I run it through the following new pedal chain (note that the first 3 pedals are “on” throughout the video):

TC Electronic Polytune 3 Mini (using this one for the buffer, since it's a long signal chain)"
