Oberheim OB-X8 Magic Pads and more - no FX

video upload by synthlegends

"Here are some of my programmed Pad and String sounds with some crazy LFO, Portamento in wide stereo mostly used of SEM Filter without any FX and processing. All sounds are recorded in stereo live without any overdubbing directly into the audio interface. As you can see, I was fiddling a bit with some Page 2 functions, like stereo settings, filter, LFO and portamento tricks. Thanks for watching. Some additional videos will occur on this channel with the OB-X8. Have fun and make some music!"

Get Jervis - Synths at Bedtime- Dreadbox Nymphes

video upload by GetJervis

"Synths at bedtime is back! Today we’re pairing the mighty Dreadbox Nymphes with the only possible text imaginable, a passage from Homer’s Odyssey!

Introduced, at first in ancient Greek, translated by Rex, with attention not only to the words but also to the inflections of each sentence.

Unlike its predecessors, the vibe of the Nymphes led me to a much more rhythmic accompaniment than in previous episodes..

I hope you enjoy!"

The Oberheim OB-X8 in for Sonic LAB review

video upload by sonicstate

"The Oberheim OBX-8 is in the building. Arrived in a monolithic black Gator flight case, ready for action. We'll be reviewing this in due course, so we thought we'd post a quick look and encourage you to leave any questions you might have for us to answer in the full review, or in the exclusive Patreon extra video we will also be posting.

The OBX-8 is a lovely story, the whole Tom Oberheim getting his name back and the project really coming together under the drive from former Oberheim employee Marcus Ryle (he invented ADAT, founded Line 6 too).

And now here it is, the 8 voice analog polysynth from yesteryear, together with some new features, but very true to the original."

Knobcon 22: Buchla Music Easel - Nearly Ready!

video upload by sonicstate

"The new Buchla Easel has taken a while to come to fruition but its now in production and will be available to purchase real soon, says Marc Doty.

Extra functions have been added while keeping with the Buchla tradition. The case is now more suitcase shaped, but includes the Music Box Input Output module and made it more accessible. They added mixer, slew generator, voltage control, CV and gate and USB connections too.

We also looked at the Program Manager which allows for some recall of presets with a screen for preset names.

The 218 keyboard is also updated, better grounding, clean power for better control, a new strip with CV output for additional control, pulse output, reset button to set the capacitance.

All in all its a more powerful instrument, without a significant change in price.

Release date and price TBC. (around $4k)"

Knobcon 22: PWM Malevolent Now in US Stores

video upload by sonicstate

"We've looked at the PWM Malevolent synth here for Sonic LAB and enjoyed the character and grime of this new instrument.

Now PWM is officially launched in the US with distributors and are currently on the water, and will be in the stores in a week or so.

Malevolent is a two oscillator analog synth with some heavy drive circuitry made in conjunction with Finlay Shakespeare of Future Sound Systems, using a Sallen-Key filter.

Available soon at good US synthesizer retailers priced at $549"

Knobcon 22: modbap Modular Trinity Drum Voices

video upload by sonicstate

"Modbap Modular recently introduced Trinity, the 4th module of its expanding Eurorack product lineup.

Its a three-channel DIGITAL DRUM SYNTH ARRAY, effectively performing as three drum voices in a 20HP module with a tip of the proverbial (electronic hi-) hat to the typical (kick, snare, and hi-hat) core elements of any modern beat-driven composition.

Corry spoke to Jim about the new module.

Pricing and Availability:
Expected to ship in mid-October 2022, Trinity is available to preorder at an MSRP of $549.00 USD via San Clemente, CA, USA-based distributor Electro Distro's growing global network of dealers or directly via its dedicated webpage (below)."

Knobcon 22: Isla Instruments SP2400 Updates and Plans

video upload by sonicstate

"Isla Instruments SP2400 is a loving tribute to the original SP1200 - considered by many to be the finest drum machine ever made.

The SP2400 is a sample based drum machine and sample player with many specific features designed to make the groove work.

Jim talks to Brad Holland about the updates: double the voices for starters from 8 to 16 stereo and 8 stereo live loops. There are also plans to introduce more hardware enhancements such as a DSP card for internal FX, plus more analog filter processing."

Note the silver KORG badge on back compared to previous listings. Curious if it came from the factory that way.

Bad Gear - Korg Volca Modular

video upload by AudioPilz

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the Korg Volca Modular. Is this compact modular system the ideal introduction to West Coast - style modular synthesis? Would Don Buchla approve? Modular - not even once!!!

Moog Subharmonicon with Oto Bam Cutoff Filter Exploration

video upload by riotbell

"One of my minor frustrations with the Subharmonicon is that it's hard to dynamically modulate the cutoff filter when using the synth in isolation.

I really wish the SH had an expression pedal in, because some very cool stuff can be done with filter sweeps.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The fiddling stops and the full patch plays out at around 3:30.

Thanks for listening!"

Wing Pinger, Wingie2 and Digitone // Living on a Cloud

video upload by Dexba

"I am super happy about this setup, and this video is actually coming from a bit of practice for some live events (both online and offline).
Everything is chained, starting from the Elektron Digitone, an incredibly versatile and compact digital synth, going into the Wing Pinger, used here as a quirky and mysterious stereo filter;
The Wing Pinger is going into the Wingie2, used also as a bit of a mixer, being sequenced by the Digitone, but with the flip of the Line/Microphone switch, I can quickly jump to vocal interaction.
Glueing everything together, the Hologram Microcosm.
I am currently loving the Microcosm not only for the dreamy sounds but also for the versatility of being a looper (like here, reversing and pitching a snippet from the Digitone), reverb, delay, filter and granulator at the same time.
Obviously, it's not as good as dedicated pedals for each task would be, but it helps me keep everything compact. The next step would be to provide MIDI for the Wing Pinger and Microcosm too, but I currently don't own any midi splitter.
I am also eyeing the 1010Music Lemondrop to go even more compact, any insight about that?
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed it, maybe with your eyes closed or as background, dreamy, noise ✨"

IO Instruments KALYKE / dual function generator / ADSR & LFO / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"In this video I demonstrate the full functionality of KALYKE by IO Instruments. KALYKE is a digital module that can be a dual envelope, an ADSR envelope and an LFO or a dual LFO, it really depends on how you set it up. There's a lot of versatility to explore with this 16HP piece of gear. I've recorded a bunch of patch and sound examples, and of course a long segment where I go over every knob, button, input and output.

IO Instruments aim at lower budgets without sacrificing quality. I think you'll see that KALYKE is indeed feature packed and it has a few tricks up its sleeve that I haven't seen on any other envelope or LFO module.

DISCLAIMER: I was supported by IO Instruments to make this video but whatever I explain and show in these videos are my opinions and experiences. My goal is to demonstrate the functionality of a module as detailed as possible, so everyone watching this video can decide whether KALYKE is something they want or need. I'm not here to tell you what to like."
