Software synthesizer experiments: 幽霊楽団 ~ Phantom Ensemble (Touhou 7)

video upload by Rhokin321

"This is a software synthesizer and MIDI player of mine playing the original th07_09.mid from Touhou 7.

I’m using FM synthesis to generate the waveforms in a way vaguely inspired by old FM sound chips. It doesn’t have that many unique instruments right now, most of them are used in this song. I would like to add LFOs, better envelopes and possibly some basic signal filters eventually.

I did not compose or arrange any of this, I just made the synthesizer.

Analogue Solutions Maximus Polysynth as an Analogue Workstation (In Realtime)

video upload by Analogue Solutions

"Although we label Maximus as a polysynth - it is so much more. And because of this, we can’t think of an appropriate label.

Here is a quick demo of Maximus functioning as an 8-voice analogue workstation (utilising 8 onboard sequencers), mixed by the onboard stereo mixer. You can effectively create entire bodies of music with Maximus should that be your goal.

Alternatively, you can create the biggest speaker-challenging unison sound imaginable -- or develop the phatest, most detuned pads.

When you think of a polysynth you think of flat synths with one set of controls that control all voices equally. By giving Maximus independent controls for every voice, you have more freedom to create unique styles of poly sounds impossible on traditional polysynths, whether they are hardware or software. You can dial up ‘traditional’ poly sounds (pads etc) or have something unimaginable different.

Standard poly pads will sound superbly vintage because you can never dial up each voice identically."

Moog Sound Studio Generative Patches: DFAM + Subharmonicon

video upload by Anton Anru

"Welcome to the soundset for the semi-modular system, Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Subharmonicon. DS Generative is a collection of 25 patches. This genre of sound design is very popular inside modular culture, and Moog Sound Studio suggests a good set of features to enter this club.
The bank covers a wide range of tones: warm, deep, bright, metallic, soft, expressive, dreamy, dark, evolving, detuned, inharmonic, noisy, distorted and others.

🧊 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/moog...

Controlled chaos and randomness, probability, non-repetitiveness, tempo break, pattern uniqueness, short and long sounds alternation, unexpected changes, silence and density, harmonic and fx-like tones, freaky splashes during a sequence - all these things are included in the soundset.

Generative timbre may be a good addition to (or a lead part of) ambient or techno tracks, jams and performances. You may also record fragments into your DAW or sampler, slice it to one-shots or make loops - you’ll get a unique material for further processing.
The main point of the soundset is the high level of interconnection. In this patchbook, the timbres of the synths are soldered and can’t exist separately:
🔸 they modulate each other with Envelopes
🔸 a sequence from one synth may change parameters on the other one
🔸 triggers interaction, clock/rhythm, run/stop modulations break predictable patterns
🔸 audio signals from VCOs may be used as modulation sources to create harmonies/intervals or crazy experimental inharmonic tones.

The soundset is presented in PDF format. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synths and discover their true depth.

To recreate these patches, you need up to 13 patch cords.

There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset. Audio examples for a patch are presented in three variants: DFAM only, Subharmonicon only, and both together.

Creative & Musical Uses of Precision Adders, Offset Voltages & Transposing // BEFACO VOLTIO

video upload by DivKid

"In this video we explore creative and musical uses of offset voltages and precision adders. Using the Befaco Voltio we explore creating chord intervals both statically and with offsetting musical sequences, we get creative with adding asymmetrical behaviours to waveshapers, we lock in FM ratios with analogue VCOs and plenty more.

The Befaco Voltio is a musical voltage source with 0-10V or -5/+5V octave offsets alongside semitone offsets, perfect for dealing in chord intervals. It features 2mm banana outputs that work with probes and it is a very accurate voltage that they designed for testing, building and calibrating modules. As well as generating voltages it's features a sum input, allowing this to work as a precision adder for adding or subtracting CV offset values from both sub audio CV signals and from audio sources."

Tech Thursday | Enhance 2 Audio Rate Modulation

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"Welcome back to Tech Thursday—headphones are recommended this week! Enhance 2 is a great module to expand your sonic palette. Our stereophonic enhancer provides unparalleled hands-on control over your stereo mix. But, as with all of our modules, there are a lot of modulation possibilities to explore as well.

Take it a step further with audio rate modulation and you can end up with expansive and unique stereo soundscapes!"

Drone Music | Maths + Morphagene + DPO = Motor Synth

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I saw the Gamechanger Audio Motor Synth MK II on the Erica booth at Dutch Modular Fest and I was intrigued by the sound and the mechanics of eight precision drone engines. Unfortunately I can't justify a purchase due to price and my focus on Eurorack. But that sound... So I was inspired to try to make something similar with a clever envelope, a complex oscillator and a drone engine sample. I am using Maths, DPO and Morphagene, but any combo of an ADSR, growling VCO and sample player with pitch CV would work.

This video basically covers the fun of combining a VCO with a Sample and mult pitch to both of them. It will open up a weatlh of new sounds you've never heard before, but offer a new level of complexity and awe.

I guess you can see this as Shared System Tutorials episode 45 too. So the series goes on, but the thumbnails are no longer directly tied to the series."

Granular Guitar

video upload by Instruō

"làrachd is utilised as an input stage for the guitar.
The output from làrachd is patched to the Onset Input of arbhar.

When an onset signal is detected, arbhar begins recording the guitar. Once the buffer is full, we can use the Spray Knob and Scan Knob to explore which part of the recording we would like to hear.

The guitar signal normals to làrachd's envelope follower.

The Positive Envelope Output of the làrachd is used to modulate arbhars Intensity. As a result, when a loud input signal is present, fewer grains are triggered from the arbhars Continuous Granular Engine.

The Negative Envelope Output is offset using a vincâ and used to duck arbhar's internal reverb as well as adjust the Dry/Wet Mix when an input signal is present.

arbhar’s Pitch Deviation Knob is positioned fully clockwise meaning grains are transposed up and down octaves.

Finally, the left and right outputs of the arbhar are patched to the cuïr, which is used for gain staging and final signal output."
