Poly sequence without sequencer on KORG R3 synthesizer

video upload by Jake

"A song combining several sequences on a KORG R3 synthesizer without sequencer thanks to the Motion Sequencer

The R3 is a bi-timbral synthesizer.

Although it does not have a sequencer per se, it has the "motion sequence" function.

If motion sequencing allows you to automate a parameter over 16 steps, it can be dedicated to the pitch of the notes.

We thus have 2 sequences for the same patch, each controlling its own tone.

On timbre 1, in order to make the sequence more complex, I allocated each of the 2 filters to its own oscillator. Thus on timbre 1 the slow variations of LFO 1 control filter 1 in positive and 2 in negative.

LFO 2 is synchronized to the motion sequencer in the form of a sawtooth wave to simulate a filter envelope trigged to the note

On tone 2, LFO 1 in the form of a square wave at slow speed allows the sequence to be transposed to the seventh at 0.75 hZ.

LFO 2 has the same function as on timbre 1

Recorded in one take without any external effects"

A Rat, a DB-01 and a Light pedal cranked for filth and feedback

video upload by Richard DeHove

"I've always wanted ferocious feedback on a synth, just like them geetar players get. The obvious choices are a FreqOut or even an old Boss FB-2. But how about a Gamechanger Audio Light reverb pedal and a Rat ? One reason I got the Light pedal was its interesting modes, gate and drive. By itself a lot of the options feel very underpowered when fed by the DB-01. But add a Rat after the reverb and everything comes alive.

Here I first try the Light pedal's Reflect mode which is a dirty delay, then the Feedback mode. The Rat is vital to crank the Light pedal's effect although it does add a huge amount of noise. Ideally I'd add a noise gate after the rat and then a delay. Perhaps even a pitch shifting delay to try to get a little more pitch control over the feedback.

With it's little Rat friend the Light pedal now seems a lot more useful.

As usual there's absolutely no other audio processing than what you see.

1:25 Reflect cranked

4:48 Feedback mode
8:28 Sequenced feedback

Elmyra2 Revisited with Imitor, Melotus & Desmodus Versio

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"It's been two months since I supported the Elmyra2 launch wave. But it's not gathering dust. It's maturing like good wine. This video doesn't add much to the first one, except I'll be using a lot more CV and starting RAW with no effects. Indeed, it reminds a bit of the Lyra-8 sonically, but the Elmyra is much easier to control and there's no built in FM. You'll need a masterclass for Lyra-8, but you can just play Elmyra and make dark organic drones, textures and music. I've included some short Lyra-8 snippets for you to compare. Elmyra 2 can't go to the high notes, where Lyra-8 can go higher than you can hear. So I will not compare them, but enjoy them both."

"Presenting the Teisco S-100F Synthesizer 100F, a vintage analog monophonic synth that stands as a testament to classic sound design and versatility. Rest assured, this unit is FULLY WORKING, ready to transport you back to the golden era of analog synthesis.

Featuring a single VCO, the Synthesizer 100F delivers a rich array of sonic possibilities, with sawtooth, square, and noise waveforms at your fingertips. "This one was used by the great Herbie Hancock for a concert in Rome in the late 80.

(It was Signed by Mr.Hancock on the front panel...unfortunately a little faded after all over 30 years)

8x analog VCF, 8x analog VCA, extended memory,

unusual for the keyboard version - 8 individual outs are installed.

Everything works great except for one of the eight individual outputs,

which does not play, however the main outputs Left, Right work perfectly.

Anyway, it plays beautifully. The instrument comes with a hard case.

The original Italian owner made a video - demo, which is in the link below."

Robust 🦸‍♂️ (Roland TR6S Rhythm Performer // S1 Tweak Synth // J6 Chord Synth) Synthwave

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"In the wake of my previous video, here's a synthwave-like jam featuring the same 3 little boxes from Roland: the TR-6S (Drums), the S-1 (Bass) and the J-6 (Arp/Chords) 😉

The track starts with a drum pattern from the TR-6S where I only used the TR-707 Analog Circuit Behavior engine (I.E. no static 707 samples), modeling the quirks and instabilities of the analog envelope and amplifier stages that came after the D/A converter 🤩 (the TR-707 was PCM based, but still had some randomness thanks to the analog part after the D/A converter).

I also used the DRIVE master effect of the TR-6S to add some dirt and energy (the DRIVE somehow also act like a compressor).

I recorded 3 DRUM patterns (2 main parts and 1 break) but as I used the probability, sub probability, parameter-lock features etc. the drum patterns seem to be longer than 1 bar!

Then come the BASS (played by the S-1, I recorded 4 patterns which are 4-bar long for this) and the ARP/CHORDS played by the J-6 (I decided not to sequence this instrument as I wanted to trigger it live and bring some organic fluctuations to the track 😊).

For the sync part, the TR-6S is sending MIDI to the S-1, and the S-1 is sending analog clock to the J-6 (there was no need to start the J-6's sequencer as the ARP/CHORDS were triggered in real-time)."

Korg MS-50 Autoplay #1: part 5/5 | sequential patch #korgms50

video upload by Dr. Kunz

Korg MS-50 Autoplay

"Fifth and last part of a sequential patch with VCO and VCF cross-modulation, combined modulation voltages, rhythmic pulses and two independent audio outputs. Different level settings in the Adding Amplifier can produce a variety of patterns from the combination of two envelope curves and a pulse, displayed on the voltmeter. The remaining free modules can be integrated to further expand the patch complexity.
This video is a fraction of an hour long experiment around this patch, I've shortened and divided it in five parts to make it more accessible. The wiring is presented at the beginning of each video.
Thanks to @IppeiTambata for his inspirational looping machines.

Effects: Yamaha SPX-90II stereo echo, Korg SDD-3000 short modulated delay, some level and eq adjusting on the Mackie 1402.

Good people make for good events and good gear, so lets meet them // London Synth & Pedal Expo 2024

video upload by DivKid

"What an amazing weekend we've just had! Here's a video with some of the people at the London Synth & Pedal Expo 2024. Held over this past weekend (Saturday and Sunday the 16th+17th of March 2024) in Studio 9294 in Hackney Wick, the London Synth & Pedal Expo is a free to attend show with plenty of synths, modular and pedal FX on show for people to come and play with.

As it takes good people to make good events (and the good gear we love) I wanted to focus on the people, asking who they are and what they do, more specifically how would they explain what they do to someone with no idea about synths, pedals and music tech. That led to some funny answers, all spread around various bits of b roll and footage from the event."

"ADDAC813 is a straight forward stereo mixer. Featuring 5 stereo channels, 4 of them with attenuators, a mono send/return path for parallel processing plus stereo and mono outputs

Four channels with stereo input and gain knob. Fifth channel with stereo input without gain knob, which are the prefered inputs to cascade several ADDAC813s when more channels are needed. Master Output controls the level of the Inputs mix. Two leds monitor the inputs mix.

Mono Send / Return return path allows for easy integration of mono effects in a stereo chain. Plug your favorite module through it (filter, bbd delay, spring reverb...) or any mono pedal.

The Return Gain works in parallel with the Master Output, just like regular wet / dry controls.
The send output can be configured to be line or synth level via a jumper in the back.

Stereo output sums the Inputs Mix with the Return signal.
The Mono output is the sum of Left and Right outputs

Effect Pedals
Using the send output at Line level, the user can connect the send output directly into mono effect pedals and have the pedals output connected directly into the return input without the need of an attenuator/amplifier module."
