#Jamuary 29th 2025 - "Faint Signals"

video upload by Captain Credible

"No clue how the #norns works yet but it definitely lives up to my expectations!"

Midimalism™ USB midi controller

"He a very smol boi.
He is a tiny USB MIDI controller with 2 knobs, to buttons and one mini jack input for DIY sensors and shit.

To make a DIY sensor connect a potentiometer or construct some other voltage divider. The tip of the minijack is +5V, the sleeve is GND and the ring is where the voltage is measured by the midimalism and turned sent to your pooter as MIDI data. DONT SHORT +5V AND GND, midimalism might probably maybe die."

Introducing: TINA GUO - STORM CELLO

video upload by The Crow Hill Company

Press release follows:

The Crow Hill Company kicks up storming sample instrument in close collaboration with virtuoso namesake as TINA GUO - STORM CELLO

EDINBURGH, UK: The Crow Hill Company is proud to announce availability of TINA GUO - STORM CELLO — closely collaborating with virtuoso cellist, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and entrepreneur Tina Guo, one of the most recorded solo cellists of all time in film, TV, and game soundtracks, who teamed up with multi-talented composer and producer Steve Mazarro to create her first sample instrument supervised entirely by herself according to the needs of ‘AAA-list’ composers with whom she has worked during the last decade, before turning to the music- making community tools-maker to help them storm over the finish line with what brings to the musical masses the seriously sought-after and undeniably unique sonic capabilities of her electric cello that has graced so many iconic scores in recent times — as of January 29…

As a GRAMMY and BRIT Female Artist of the Year nominee, Tina Guo herself hardly needs much more in the way of introduction. It would perhaps be remiss not to mention recent projects (both on and off the big screen) that include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (2023), Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (2024), Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024), Dune: Part One (2021), Dune: Part Two (2024), Gran Turismo (2023), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022) — not forgetting, of course, that she co-composed ‘Wonder Woman Main Theme’ with long-time friend and collaborator Hans Zimmer. Duly dedicating his life to creating music and soundscapes using synthesisers together with orchestral sounds, the so-called godfather of orchestral sampling has over 150 big screen credits to his notable name, including a sizeable slice of the biggest blockbusters witnessed worldwide, as well as associated sellout arena tours on the grandest of scales — with none other than Tina Guo joining him onstage.

A first look at the 242t from Buchla & Tiptop Audio

video upload by Tiptop Audio

"The Buchla & Tiptop Audio Programmable Pulser - Model 242t is an essential module for creating rhythmically intricate patches in Eurorack 200t systems.
This video showcases how the 242t interacts with other 200t modules, driving a unique patch that triggers and controls a feedback loop system.

You can see this historical collection of Buchla 200 series reissues, including the new 242t, the Programmable Pulser module, here: https://tiptopaudio.com/buchla/

Patch Overview of 'Triggering Feedback Loops':
The 242t sends pulses to a network of modules to generate sequences and modulations:
242t: Sends pulses to the 245t, 266t, and 281t for creating CV sequences and dynamic modulations.
259t: Serves as the primary VCO, delivering the audio foundation.
292t: Shapes the audio signal from the 259t.

Feedback System Details:
Tiptop ZDSP: Processes the 259t’s audio output (filtered by the 292t). Its outputs feed the 296t and 285t, which send their processed signals back into the ZDSP’s feedback inputs, creating a controlled loop.
296t: Operates also as an envelope follower, analyzing the ZDSP’s output and generating CV. The CV is sent to MISO, where it is inverted and routed back to modulate the ZDSP’s feedback inputs, acting as a limiter to prevent saturation."

Marius Leicht - "O" (Oberheim Eight Voice)

video upload by Marius Leicht

"Full Oberheim Eight-Voice Album availlable here: https://www.mariusleicht.com/sp/klang...

I was invited to GForce Software's incredible synthesizer studio in England and gratefully recorded a whole album with this synthesizer of my and many other's dreams. This piece was an improvisation I initially recorded with GForce OB-E to prepare for my session with the real Oberheim. A good friend of mine liked it so much that she urged me to put it on the album, so I transcribed what I played and recreated it with the real thing. To read the full story and discover what "O" means, as well as to get the original sound patch for OB-E, please check out my free 8-day email trip, packed with goodies:

Dirty, rotten, filthy Multipoly - (5 sounds no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Beauty comes easily to the Multipoly, but what about filth? Happy to say that is excels here too. With some cross-modulation, high resonance and a touch of internal drive things dirty up quickly. As always, less is more. Most patches use a single layer with two oscillators, guitar amp drive and master EQ.

For now I'm still in 'standard synth' land with the Multipoly and have yet to touch the mod process page or motion sequencer. I even find adding parameters to the four white knobs a pain. The manual also shows two small mixer sections but I've yet to find them. Meh. It's not an intuitive synth and the manual may be comprehensive at 130+ pages but it's not particularly instructive.

On the plus side it does do weird very easily. In that it does remind me of my beloved Mono/Poly. In fact it delivers weird so well - and of course with perfect recall - that it makes me wonder whether I need the SyntrxII anymore?

"This synth has one of the most amazing features I've never seen before, which I am surprised it didn't catch on! Cost? IT IS CONSTANTLY RECORDING!!! How awesome is that?! How many times have you been playing, without recording, and later not remembering what exactly it was, because you were so caught up in the clouds...

Not only can this thing recall your last play, but the last many!!! And when it runs out of space, it starts recording over in that order, like a loop camera!"

"I was the Product Manager for FIZMO at Ensoniq in 1998, right before they were swallowed up by Creative Labs. This is actually one of the very first FIZMO’s to come off of the production line. When I saw it I immediately panicked! There was no silk screening for the I/o on the back of the keyboard! A few of these were manufactured this way and they were given to me and some of the customer support team at the time. It also includes the OG Radio Shack Adapter which we used in-house until the production adapters arrived.

I haven’t used it in years but I just fired it up. I do have the red plastic cover for the display. It needs to be glued back on. The unit is fully functional and works with the fantastic FAUXMO Editor which I have a copy of. Here’s one of the most unique synths ever produces and a piece of Ensoniq history."

The magic auto-muting eurorack mixer: Eowave Supamix Demo

video upload by mylarmelodies

"In this demo I'll show you the unique‪@eowavemodular‬ Supamix - a generative eurorack modular mixer. What's the trick? It can automate the on-and-off muting of channels, using voltage or gates. The pattern of muting is determined by an algorithm you choose, and makes it uniquely powerful for generative patches that play out by themselves, as well as co-ordinating buildups, drops and more.

One important feature I did not show - if you hold down a mute for half a second, it stays on no matter what automation is happening on the other channels. Useful for keeping one track running (eg. Drums) while others are switching on and off merrily."

The Supamix was announced back in May 2024.

Check with dealers on the right for availability.

Ambient Ø, wavestick, PO-32, field recordings in Tokyo | Time Ripple 2025-01-29 by atnr

"A Piece Created Using ‪@SONICWARE‬ LIVEN Ambient Ø, ‪@homebakeinstruments8214‬ Wavestick, and ‪@teenageengineering‬ PO-32

Gentle repeating sounds and drone textures resonate against the backdrop of sounds from Tokyo's residential areas.

Ambient Ø: I perform on the built-in keyboard while playing a loop. I use chorus as the master effect and route the output through ‪@strymon‬ NIGHTSKY to apply reverb and filters. Additionally, I modulate the pitch to create a wavering effect.

Wavestick: The sound is processed through ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ LOSSY with reverb, filters, and bit reduction effects, and then deep reverb delay is applied using ‪@HologramElectronics‬ MICROCOSM.

PO-32: Used to play sound effects, which are processed with delay and reverb effects from the ‪@KORG_INC‬ NTS-1."

Vaemi's new product, the Mini Mixer, is a mono analog mixer with 4 channels and 3.5mm mini jack inputs and outputs, designed for use in stage performances or recordings with all your line and analog equipment. Each channel features a saturation function, and it has a specially designed jack input for the 4th channel.

When the 4th channel and jack input are empty, the mixer’s master output is rerouted to the inputs, creating a "feedback" circuit. This feature allows the sound gain to increase by approximately 6 times, significantly raising the saturation level of the mixer. If an instrument is connected to the 4th channel, the feedback signal is disabled when the jack is plugged in, and the instrument's sound becomes part of the summing. When the channels are muted, the feedback enters self-oscillation.

The Kraakdoos, also known as the Cracklebox, is an experimental electronic musical instrument first developed by Michel Waisvisz in the 1970s. This device makes interacting with electronic circuits fun and unconventional, and is played through its touch-sensitive surfaces. When you complete the circuit with your fingertips, it starts producing sound, with the tone, intensity, and rhythm changing according to your touch.

VAEMI's Atari Punk Console features a circuit design that operates with two oscillators and the modulation between these oscillators. Based on the "Stepped Tone Generator" circuit developed by Forrest M. Mims III in the early 1980s, this design is one of the significant milestones in electronic music history.

Thanks to the two oscillators, it offers the possibility to select harmonic degrees based on the fundamental frequency. This feature allows users to create melodic arpeggios.
