Busy Bezaleel
video upload by davidryle
"5U modular synthesizer song. Using the LinnStrument 128 and synthesizers.com Q174 MIDI Interface to play into the modular. The main voice was a pair of Synthetic Sound Labs TZ-VC Oscillators and a Yusynth ARP 4072 Filter. Bass line was the Q960 step sequencer to DOve D100 and D110 VCO's on to the Drove G294A filter. A kick drum is from the SSL Woven Spirits. The FX fluttering sound is the Dove D900 sequencer to a pair of STG Oscillators. The noise chuff sounds are the WCRS module into a MOTM 440 filter and delay.
The mid-section is the LinnStrument in arpeggiator mode for the bass line (a pair of Q106's through the Q107 filter) and for the upper arpeggiation (the TZ-VC osc pair through an Oakley SVF. The offbeat sequence is the Dove D900 through the STG oscillators and the Dove D502 filter. The pad sound is generated by the STG Voltage Mini Store to a pair of Q206 vco's and the Q150 filter to a Canyon Delay pedal."

"since I got this wonderful module I never really took the time and appreciate how such a simple module can create such beautiful textures. in this episode I give a quick rundown of the module and have fun resythesizing some material.
do excuse the dirty finger, have been doing some soldering beforehand and am blind as a bat
enjoy!

Background Modulars No.9 Roland 'System'
video upload by Memetune Studio
"Don’t have a real Roland System 100 plus SH5 to hand? No worries! Just put this video on in the background (in full-screen mode), and have the next best thing 😁
Here is 10 minutes of self-playing modular synthesiser randomness. Why not put it on loop - then you can have it bubbling away in the background while you do other things
A note on the patch: My Roland 'System' is made up from a full compliment of the System 100 units (101 main synth with the keyboard removed - NOT MODIFIED BY ME! - 102 expander synth, 103 mixer / reverb, and 104 sequencer, which have been removed from their original boxes - NOT BY ME!! - in other words this is a totally unique System 100 and uses up a lot less space than a stock one 😁), the SH5 dual VCO mono synth with specially designed modular breakout panel, the 201 tape delay, Boss delay unit, ALM ASQ1 sequencer based on the Roland SH101, and some Behringer 100M cloney modules - 2 x 180 sequencers, the dual mixer and 4 x analog switches
The patch uses 3 distinct 'voices' - the 101, 102 and SH5, all being sequenced by a combination of all the sequencers mentioned above. The switches are being used to split the voltages going to the 101 and SH5 so that they alternate and don't play together, which kind of keeps some space in the patch
Lastly I use the 103 mixer to pan the 3 voices, and add the 2 delay units in various amounts - including the amazing sounding spring reverb built in to the mixer - this really does sound special for some reason and when I first got the system 100 it made me really happy. There are no other effect in this recording - just some compression from the Neve desk"

"Has one mod, which is common enough: the proprietary mic input was removed and replaced by a common XLR. This is a massive improvement in that it allows you to use any mic, unlike the OG Korg. Aftermarket gooseneck is included, but you can plug a basic mic cable into it as well."

Roland Aira S-1 // A mini SH101 and so much more
video upload by Starsky Carr
"The Roland Aira Compact S-1 uses Roland's Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology to emulate the classic SH-101 monosynth from the 80s. ... plus a lot more, like 4 voice poly, delay and reverb, wave drawing, fast LFO, MIDI (obvs), poly sequencer with parameter locks, extra LFO shapes, and D-motion.
In this I have a play with a few of the factory sequences to give a feel for its range and play it alongside my vintage SH101 to see how close it gets."

3/1/25 Buchla 295m 258d 281 292r + JRB VCBF + Magnetic Freak Gaussian + Peavey DDL-3 + CXM 1978
video upload by Cfpp0
"3/1/25 Buchla 295m 258d 281 292r + JRB VCBF + Magnetic Freak Gaussian + Peavey DDL-3 + CXM 1978
In this video, four envelopes on the Buchla 281 quad function generator are providing control voltages and triggers to the Magnetic Freak Gaussian, the Buchla 292r lopass gate, the JRB VCBF bandpass filter, and to the Buchla 258d oscillators. The 258d square is FMing the sawtooth oscillator, which runs through the M.E.M.S. clone of the Buchla 295. Three of the individual band outputs on the 295m are patched into the audio inputs on the 292r, with the 295m mix output patched to the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer, panned center. The mix output on the 295m is patched to the JRB VCBF, which runs through the Peavey DDL-3 digital delay, with the DDL-3 dry output panned right and the wet output panned left on the Mackie. All of the signals get reverb blended on the CXM 1978."

Serge Filter Tour | Serge Modular | Episode 07 | Res EQ, VCF2, Siegfried, VCFS, VCFX, VCFQ
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"There are currently 1601 filters on ModularGrid. It may be impossible to pick the right one for your case. If we check out the modular pioneers, we'd see Moog's legendary ladder. Buchla only made a rare triple bandpass, Roland and Korg refined far eastcoast synthesis and there are a few exotics like the Wasp and the Polivoks. In this video I want to focus on the Serge filters (eurorack format) which I rediscovered last year. He has five designs with distinct differences. There's the RES EQ fixed filter bank, the VCF2 variable bandwidth with no resonance (?), the VCFS with a variable slope (?) and the highly appreciated VCFQ with variable resonance. A few weeks ago Serge released the VCFX with a 'new gate' on a single panel. It's a simple utility filter on its own, but combined with the gate we'll have a patch programmable LPG. Or a bandpass gate.
I'll be using the Schlappi THREE-BODY as a triple sawtooth voice making a chord. It's a big and nasty sound that could use a filter. It inevitably turned out to be a long video because I had the pleasure to go through five different filters. I tried to keep it fresh and entertaining. Who doesn't love playing the cut-off :)."
Ambient w/ Lyra-8, KORG MS-20, reface DX | Alpine Crescendo 2025-03-02 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created using the @somasynths Lyra-8, @KORG_INC MS-20, and YAMAHA Reface DX. It's ambient music where a melody and looper sequence melt into a drone.
For the Lyra-8, after some tuning, I set it to HOLD the sound so it resembles chords. Its output is processed with reverb using @gfisys SPECULAR TEMPUS.
The MS-20 is run through @strymon blueSky for reverb, and I occasionally open and close the filter to change its timbre.
The Reface DX loops phrases with its looper while applying filter and reverb via @strymon NIGHTSKY. At the beginning and end of the track, I reduce the dry signal and modulate the filter to blur the sound."
Comparison: Yamaha FB01 vs EssenceFM
