G-media VSM - Virtual String Machine (with minimoogV)

YouTube via LF0
"This is a short (because my cpu can't handle a lot of shit going while the screen is recording) burst with the G-media VSM, with the Minimoog doing the sequence in the back. Yes the video goes out of sync the video and audio are separate so compression is different. I will upload a solo track with the g-media when I get round to it."

Laser Harp Fully Functional

YouTube via shobley. Update: see this post for how he did it an more.
"Finally got the bugs worked out with the sensor. The harp is connected to the impOSCar VSTi software synthesizer, the TAOS sensor array sits on the floor in it's own stand. The array above the harp i is just made up of fs mirrors for added p'zazz. (www.stephenhobley.com)"

Off-the-record: GForce Interview with Dave Spiers

"You were a sort of pioneer in hardware midi controllers with the Phat Boy. Do you see GForce involved in something hardware related in the future?

It's possible and there's no denying that hardware can't be pirated, which is what I think makes it attractive to software developers.
What I love about software though is that these are still early days and there's a spirit of adventure that's exciting. I spoke to the boss of a hardware synth company who said "If you're not able to manufacture in China, you won't even get on the playing field" which to me implied that everyone is chasing lowest cost manufacturing over creativity - software isn't like that.....yet!"

GForce String Machine to include the Yamaha GX1

Macaixa noticed this image and the following blurb after clicking through this post.

"?
A teaser of something that should appear in a VSM add-on pack. This instrument is a true rarity and something that we were truly privileged to play, let alone record."

If you look at the image of this post you will see that is the Yamaha GX1 programmer. For those that don't know what the GX1 is, it's the precursor to the Yamaha CS80. More massive, more coveted and much more expensive. Note the Virtual String Machine is sample based with some effects including filter:

The sounds from 17 classic and rare string machines
Over 2.5Gb of data
66 individual sample sets
49 notes, each individually sampled and looped
Dual Layer & Split Keyboard capability
Vintage style Ensemble & Phaser effects
Filter section with Lowpass, Bandpass & Highpass modes
Two Envelope Generators
Pitch LFO
Dynamic control including filter aftertouch
500+ Patch library

GForce String Machine

GForce's String Machine previously announced here is now available.

"Instrument Overview
The modern, polyphonic string synthesizer was invented in 1970 by Ken Freeman, a British keyboard player and engineer who discovered that if you layered a note with another detuned and slightly modulated version of itself, a pleasant ‘chorused’ sound resulted.

Even though Ken's invention wasn't the first instrument of this genre to be commercially released (That honor fell to the Eminent organ company with their 310 Unique organ) there's little doubt that Ken's vision contributed immeasurably to electronic music over the next few decades in the guise of over 100+ different models that followed from a huge variety of manufacturers.

The VSM is an intuitive but highly powerful Virtual String Machine which captures many of the sounds from this genre of instrument, containing a wealth of sounds from a small mountain of classic and rare string machines. These range from the first commercial string ensembles (Eminent 310 & Freeman String Symphonizer) through to the highly lauded Solina, Elka Rhapsody, Logan String Melody, Korg PE2000 and many more.

With the sheer amount of instruments captured within the VSM, it's simplicity itself to recreate all those golden string machine tones from yesteryear. However, with the VSM's comprehensive, yet intuitive feature-set, plus a two-layer option it's now possible to create your own hybrid instruments taking these sublime vintage tones into hitherto unchartered territory."

GForce Software

Update: Looks like the Yamaha GX1 will be added as well. Macaixa in the comments noticed this image and the following blurb after clicking through.

"?
A teaser of something that should appear in a VSM add-on pack. This instrument is a true rarity and something that we were truly privileged to play, let alone record."

If you look at this post you will see it's the programmer for the GX1.

M-AUDIO GForce Virtual String Machine

"The Virtual String Machine from GForce brings the evocative tones of over a dozen of the finest vintage string synthesizers to your personal studio—Freeman String Symphonizer, Eminent 310, ARP Omni II, ARP Quartet, Crumar Multiman, Polymoog, Elka Rhapsody, Korg PE2000, Logan String Melody, Eminent Solina, Roland RS202, Yamaha SS30 and more. Far more than a preset device, the Virtual String Machine lets you layer any two of the 60 Sample Sets and apply an intuitive synthesis engine to each—as well as add master vintage phaser/ensemble effects. The result is a truly authentic and highly versatile range of textures, perfect for just about every musical genre. Mac/PC stand-alone or host operation (RTAS, VST, AU)."

Note this is from GForce/Gmedia, the group behind the Oddity, Minimonsta, M-Tron and impOSCar. If it's from then, it's sure to sound good.

GMedia Flashes a Boob on Sonic State

Nice! Man I love Sonic State. In the latest issue of Keyboard Magazine there's a small bit asking why no one has come out with an Oberheim soft synth yet. Well.... Looks like this might be it. : ) Title link takes you to a clip on Sonic State where GMedia accidentally flashes the SOB pictured below. GMedia rules. I have their impOSCar and Oddity, both great and affordable soft synths.
