Tama - Techstar TS305

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via NOISEBUG Reverb

"This listing is for the full Tama TS-305 kit including all 5 drum pads and drum stands.

The TAMA TS-305 is a 6 channel drum synth module.
It can be used as a desktop module or a massive 7u 19" Rackmount. Each channel is a mini analogue synth drum module, capable of producing a wide range of electronic drum sounds, and since every parameter is defined by a knob, it's highly tweakable.

Modules on the TS-305 are:
SNARE / RIM SHOT / TOM 1 - 3 & BASSDRUM

Each channel has 10 controls (9 knobs & 1 switch).

From the looks of it, it is designed with the Drummer in mind - to be used with Electronic Drum Kit triggers.

It looks very similar to the Simmons SDS-8 Drum Brain.

All the drum tones are actually individual analogue drum synths."

Examples of synths that work with trigger inputs : Juno-6/60, Jupiter-4/8, synths with cv/gate inputs, drum synths (Tama, simmons, Pearl etc)."

Tama Techstar TAM500 - 80's Analog Drum Synth Sounds

"This is an analog drum voice module from 1985, meant to be used with Tama Techstar electronic drum kits. Here I am triggering it with drum gates from an Arturia Beatstep Pro. I've also successfully used it with homemade piezo triggers on a drum kit.

"Vintage drum synthesizer, the Tama DS200. The device has been fully tested and is in perfect working condition. I primarily was using it for the very low sub bass frequencies it generates. Many drum machines\synths have short\limited volume envelopes for bass sounds but with this thing you can get loooong sub booms from it. You can also get 50's-ish sci-fi sounds and the sound I think most associated with this devices is the Tom like sound heard on many Disco records of the 70s and 80s. It has two analogue oscillators with sensitivity, sweep range, sweep time, decay time, volume control and pickup input for each oscillator. Then envelop depends on the input source like an envelope follower."

Tama Techstar & Arturia Drumbrute jam - Using Techstar as a module with Drumbrutes individual outs

Published on May 19, 2020 Expanding Sound

"I've always enjoyed my Drumbrute. The impact has a great sounding snare in comparison, and a great price point, but I've never regretted picking the Drumbrute up because it's fun to play with. My biggest gripe was always with the snare and toms. Not having decay on the toms always bothered me. The Drumbrute holds its worth to me over the Impact with the individual outputs. So I decided to put them to work!

The Tama Techstar is originally meant to be used as a module for electronic drum pads. On this video I used the Drumbrute's individual outputs on its toms and zap sound and placed them inside the Techstars toms and synth trigger inputs. The Techstar has way more controls for its analog voices than the Drumbrute does. So I decided to play with some of the modulation and have some fun!

Hope you enjoy some of my audio experiments. Please subscribe if you're into it!"

Tama Model DS200 vintage analog tube based Drum Synthesizer. This baby has all the nice disco toms and beeps and boops you might want. It is basic and very versatile and intuitive. This unit works great when clocked through a drum machine / sequencer, I bought it to replace my syncussion while I was building a syncussion clone, now that I've built my clone it's time for this beauty to be on to better uses."

"Tama Techstar TAM500 drum module / drum synth in very good condition.

The tom1 trigger led does not light (but the trigger and the channel works perfectly) and the phones level knob is not original. Otherwise everything is perfect. All functions are working perfectly."

"This is a cool rack unit that can be triggered via pad or a trigger pulse from something like the Arturia Beatstep Pro or Behringer RD-8 drum machine. I have used both to trigger it as well as Simmons pads. The hand clap can't be tweaked much, but it's nice and clappy. The Synth on the other hand is bonkers. It has a longer release than any other Techstar drum sound. I have one of the bigger 6 channel Techstar units as well and this one is the longest. It has an LFO which no other Techstar sound has either."

Tama Techstar Ableton Megapack, 11 Instruments, 4 drum racks, 100 plus samples

Published on Aug 22, 2019 Expanding Sound

http://www.expandingsound.com

"Compatible with Ableton Live Lite 9.7.7 and above.

Theres a lot more than a simple analog drum sound set here. I was able to create musical instrument racks from the voices of the drum machines.
Analog drum machines are not sample based. Each drum sound is its own analog synthesizer voice, able to be manipulated, though not the extent of your standard keyboard synthesizer. This made it possible for me to tweak the drum voices to create melodic sustained pitches. With those samples, I was able to create key based instruments.

One of my favorite things about this pack was how fun the creation process was. Often when I'm making a pack, theres a thought in mind to how the instruments should sound, due to the synths reputation or style. With this pack it was like working from scratch. As I created my showcase jam, I also created the Instrument racks. So they're based more on my taste rather than what I think a drum machine sample pack should be. If you like the sound of the jam, you'll dig this pack.

I used two Techstar units to create this pack, the TS 202 and the TS 306. Also included in the project are all the samples I did not use that I created. Each sample is in a properly marked folder, so feel free to use them in your own drum racks!

Thanks for checking out this vid and make sure to check out some of our other packs!"

Ableton Live - Creating Playable Synth Instruments from an Analog Drum Machine, Tama Techstar ts306

Published on Aug 15, 2019 Expanding Sound

http://www.expandingsound.com

"I decided to share the creation process of my next mega pack, the Tama Techstar Series! I have 2 of these vintage analog drum units, one with 4 toms, a synth and clap voice, and the other with snare and rim shot voices. While the pack will include several drum racks, I decided to try and create playable instruments out of the samples as well. After all, an analog drum machine is just a polyphonic synthesizer, with a certain set of voices dependent on the amount of drums it is creating. This video showcases my process. I record samples, map them across a key bed in Sampler, play with the modulation and create a melody. Hope you find it useful as you create your own packs!
This is using Ableton 9.7.7, even though I have 10 I'm not sure everyones ready to upgrade so I don't want to shut anyone out on my packs!"
