Dark Star - Psychedelic Synths, Maschine finger drumming and Guitars Jam on Tape
video upload by Caught In Joy
"✨✨✨ NEW ALBUM OUT NOW on Bandcamp**: https://caughtinjoy.bandcamp.com
Here's a first single from my new album called 'Out Of Nowhere'. Embark on a cosmic journey with 'Dark Star' jam, where psychedelic synths, groovy guitar riffs, and analog tape recording come together to create an otherworldly soundscape. This track is a deep dive into space rock, blending the rich textures of Moog One, Moog Matriarch, and Prophet-10 synthesizers with live guitar and finger drumming on the Maschine.
Everything you hear was recorded live to an 8-track 1/2" reel-to-reel TEAC 80-8, passed through the warm, analog sound of the TEAC Model 5A console. This session is pure, unfiltered analog magic—capturing the raw energy of live performance in its truest form.
Every listen, share, and purchase helps keep the music alive. Your support means the world to me!
Thank you for being a part of this journey.
With cosmic gratitude,
Caught In Joy"

Drum & Bass Jam with Analog Synths - Connecting With the Stars
video upload by Caught In Joy
"Join me on a cosmic drum & bass journey with "Connecting With the Stars," a high-energy jam from my new album "Out Of Nowhere." This track features an electrifying blend of deep basslines and rhythmic breaks, brought to life through the lush tones of the Moog One, Moog Matriarch, Moog Mavis, Prophet-10, and Maschine.
As I jam with all my favorite instruments, you'll experience the full power of analog sound, with each synth adding its own unique flavor to the mix. Recorded live, this performance captures the raw energy and spontaneity of the moment, making it a truly immersive experience.
Thank you for being part of this journey through sound and rhythm. Your support means the world to me.
With deep gratitude and joy,
Caught In Joy"

Ableton Live+Novation Launchpad+ZeRO SL MkII= "Rolling with Strings" Nigel Sifantus live mix
Ableton Live+Novation Launchpad+ZeRO SL MkII= "Rolling with Strings" Nigel Sifantus live mix from Nigel Sifantus on Vimeo.
"The newest live performance from "Progtronica" featuring Ableton Live 8, the Novation Launchpad, and my new Novation ZeRO SL Mk II controller. This tune was all mixed together live and has a "broken-beat" vibe with orchestral and operatic samples used totally out of context. Visit nigelsifantus.com for more information. New "Progtronica" album "Live from Nowhere" is due out in mid 2010 and will feature this many many other live mixed progressive electronic solo productions."
Novation Launchpad+Ableton Live "Beat Repeat" and Live V-Drums by Nigel Sifantus from Nigel Sifantus on Vimeo.
"This is a live drum n bass experiment using Ableton Live's 'Beat Repeat" function mapped out on the Novation Launchpad dedicated Ableton Live controller. It features a mix of improvised loops mixed with some live drumming. The finished product is totally raw with no post production or editing."
Novation Launchpad+Ableton Live+Akai Mpd 24="Progtronica" by Nigel Sifantus from Nigel Sifantus on Vimeo.
"Live outdoors under the sunset of Long beach California comes Progtronica (the live outdoor extended edition) by Nigel Sifantus. This is a live improvisation using Ableton Live 8 of material from the forthcoming Progtronica-Live from Nowhere EP due to be released early 2010. See nigelsifantus.com for more details about Progtronica. All music and sounds created by me, drums played live using Roland V-Drums, sampled re-cut and launched using Novations Launchpad, and controlled by an Akai MPD 24 as well as the Launchpad and Mac. There are bits of sound taken from Brad Mehldau, Trilok Gurtu, and the Cinematic Orchestra but I challenge you to identify the sources."

Reverb's Most Popular Electronic Gear in the US by State in 2025
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via Reverb
"You might've seen our recently published list of the best-selling electronic gear on Reverb in 2024... but what about the most popular electronic gear in every state?
While plenty of mainstays made the list—like the ever-popular Teenage Engineering OP-1—there are some state-specific preferences I thought you might enjoy:
Viva Las Vegas: Nevada's most popular piece of electronic gear is an Akai Force Standalone Music Production / DJ Performance System, likely a product of all the electronic shows that take place in Sin City.
More surprising? Alabama and Kentucky, neither of which are typically known for electronic music, love their DJ gear. Maybe the latter is the Jack Harlow effect?
The Eurorack Reigns Supreme: As modular synthesis becomes more popular, Arizona, Iowa, and South Dakota proved their love for Euroracks above all else.
The Postal Service: Washington, home to Death Cab for Cutie, was won by the Dirtywave M8 Portable Tracker Sequencer. The irony of The Postal Service's revival, 20-plus-years after Death Cab's Ben Gibbard sent digital audio tapes to Jimmy Tamborello via USPS, isn't lost on us!
The Border War: Much has been made of regional music over the past few decades, from southern rap to the Pacific Northwest's indie roots...but nowhere was that more strongly displayed than Kansas and Missouri, infamous "Border War" rivals, both of which chose variations of the Akai MPK.
You can check out every state's favorite piece of electronic gear here."

Synth Stuff Ep. 61 - ASM Hydrasynth
Published on Oct 6, 2019 tritonrecordings
"From seemingly out of nowhere comes the Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth. What a beast. I sense an increase in appreciation for digital sounds as of late and that's awesome. While this can do really great analog imitations, I really get a Synclavier/PPG/ESQ-1/DX7 vibe from this and it's quite incredible. The built quality is impressive as well. While it is more than capable of leads and crunchy basses, I feel it really excels at morphing pads and textures and that's what I focused on here."

Matrixbrute: IT FOLLOWS ("Playpen")
Published on Aug 2, 2018 Kris Lennox
"Try with cans on for the bass etc. Brilliant soundtrack. The included is an arrangement of the track 'Playpen'. It is a little-known track from the soundtrack - but is fantastic. You can find it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doi8BvqRvSI
The dial you can see me turning near the top RH corner - this is the fine-tune. The pitch of the work drifts through a semitone whilst the patterns change. Therefore, this work is in fact microtonal. Or rather, it is microtonally drifting. It gives a very odd and unique effect. Great stuff.
On the original the pitch dive is VST automated - but personally I prefer hands-on. Plus - as you'll see from the video - I'm diving the pitch to reach the lowest point on a specific bar, then raising it again to a specific bar. However, this means the transitioning pitches are never at the same rate across parts i.e. I can't exactly dive with perfect synchronicity on each part. Personally, I think this gives the music even more oddness, and brings the sense of the pitch dive to life more than a standard 'all dive the same' - which is the result of VST automation. Of course, different rates can be programmed on a computer - and this is easier to fix than having to redo an entire take - but as a player I enjoy sitting at an instrument far more than sitting at a screen. There's a time and place for both - but give me the choice and I'd choose being at an instrument.

Luke's Theme on a Minimoog Voyager + EHX Cathedral
Published on May 21, 2018 SYNTHWAY
"I was just having fun with the Voyager and started to play this melody out of nowhere... had to share with you. This is one of my favorite themes on any movie, simply beautiful music.
This is very simple, just the main melodic line of the theme with some ethereal reverb on the top.
The sound is a simple brassy patch with a LOT of reverb, which was inspired by Moog's new Grandmother synthesizer. The reverb is an EHX Cathedral, with a spring reverb, low feedback, high reverb time, 40% blend."

"The second half of my Roland D-50 demo remake, this time, with all of the last 32 patches from the PN-D50-00/factory card. Also tried making each sound a bit longer so as to help listeners get a better idea of how each patch sounds.
All live playing, for a change."
Roland PN-D50-01 Previews
Published on Jul 30, 2014
"Got around to making another synth video already. This video covers all of the patches from the first of four expansion cards Roland made for their famous D-50. While nowhere near as known as the factory presets, I do feel that many of these sounds are good alternatives to D50 factory sounds."

Richard Lainhart - Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival Lecture & Performance

Slideshow of Richard Lainhart's lecture at the Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival (BEAF), Friday, May 6, 2:PM PST, 2011 (mentioned in this post). Below is a video of the Buchla and Haken Continuum portion of the lecture followed by a performance of Olivier Messiaen's Oraison written for the ondes Martenot at the 48:00 mark (see this post for the original version and this post for another performance by Richard). You will notice Richard makes references to earlier parts of the lecture. These included his training on the CEMS modular synthesizer system and the ondes Martenot (don't miss this post and this post on the CEMS). See the labels at the bottom of this post for more info on each. I will upload those videos at a later date. They were background to Richard's experience with early modular synthesizers and controllers that eventually lead him to the Buchla and Haken Continuum. It was a great lecture and I hope you enjoy it. Be sure to bookmark this one. I also want to thank Richard Lainhart for doing lectures like these. They are a rare treat.

"RICHARD LAINHART: BUCHLA AND HAKEN CONTINUUM LECTURE
Speaker: Richard Lainhart
Lecture Date: May 6, 2011
Lecture Time: 2:00 p.m. PST
Location: Western Washington University
Event: Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival 2011 (BEAF)
Length: Digital AVI recording; 57 minutes 32 seconds
[Beginning of recorded material]
Richard Lainhart: Okay. What I want to do now is actually talk a little bit about the system itself here and about the design of the system and explain what's actually happening here and why it's designed this way, and again, my focus on, on expression. So this is, as I mentioned, this is the Buchla 200E. This is a current electronic music instrument that is still being made now by Buchla. Don Buchla again was a contemporary, or is a contemporary of Bob Moog, and he took a very different path than Moog did. And one of the reasons I think that Moog's instruments became so popular, of course the Mini Moog was like the first real break-out electronic music synthesizer, was that Moog's instruments had keyboards on them. They had black and white keyboards. And you could use them to play, you could use them to play rock and roll with them basically because you could plug them into a really loud amplifier and it could be louder than a guitar. And it could be a bass, you know, it could be louder than a bass and all that sort of stuff. And of course a lot of, you know, a lot of wonderful music was made with that instrument.

"This is certainly a milestone release for the DiN label as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Needless to say, this is quite an achievement for a niche, independent label that has relentlessly ploughed its own path for quarter of a century. Its catalogue and release schedule has been carefully curated over all these years by label boss Ian Boddy, who launched the imprint way back in the spring of 1999. It is perhaps a reflection of his own musical identity which, whilst grounded in the Berlin School of the 1970s, has continued to evolve and grow to cover ever widening areas of electronic music, where sub-genres can be mixed and matched at will.
There have been plenty of compilation albums released on the DiN label in the past, most notably the iNDEX sampler albums, of which there have been eight to date. These cover tracks from existing albums and are certainly a great showcase for the label. However, this double album is different, in that Boddy invited the majority of the musicians who have previously been released on the main DiN catalogue to compose new pieces. Spread across two discs, this amounts to 142 minutes of sublime, varied and thoroughly original music. Ranging from beautifully ambient to dark brooding soundscapes, via cinematic electronica through to old school Berlin School sequencer workouts, “25 Years of DiN” is a wonderful distillation of the DiN label.
Presented in a stunning six panel fold out Digipak double CD package with 8-page booklet featuring an essay by Neil Mason (Moonbuilding), this release is a must-have for collectors of the DiN labels output.
