Machina Bristronica 2024
video uploads by sonicstate
Playlist:
1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.2. Bristronica 24: Circuit Happy ML2M Clock Sync module updates
The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.

At Bristronica 2024, we caught up with the creator of the *ML2M*, who introduced us to the latest version. The ML2M is a compact Eurorack module with Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless synchronization with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, and iOS music apps using Ableton Link without the need for cables. It either connects to an existing network or creates its own, ensuring robust sync even in environments with unreliable Wi-Fi. The module, which retains its 2HP size, now features MIDI integration through TRS jacks. Users can access a web interface to configure each output for different clock divisions and reset triggers, making setup straightforward and flexible.3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
Alongside the ML2M, there's also the Missing Link Junior. This desktop version offers the same functionality but in a box format, complete with MIDI and CV clock outputs. Both products are now accessible, with a starting price of $250.
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from @archaea_modular_synthesis who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.
Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.

Bigkik - Model Wave 1 (Elektron Model:Samples)
video upload by bigkik
"I got recently a 2nd hand Model:Samples and really enjoy it.
For this track, I was deeply inspired by one of my favorite artist : 'The Toxic Avenger' and especially his latest track 'Acid Machine'. I especially loved its bassline.
Again i only used the provided sounds but played extensively with the sequencer, the conditional trigs and the lfo.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did composing it !"
DVRST - Close Eyes (Elektron Model:Samples instrumental cover)
video upload by bigkik
"Despite its 64 steps limit, you are not stuck with 4 bars by adjusting the "duration" of each step a little bit like the Roland J-6 sequencer. And with the conditional trigs, you can easily program variations in a single pattern.
I only used the samples provided in the unit."

At The Mana Tree - Rainy Forest Village Loop (Ambient Fantasy Loop)
video upload by Yuki The Synth Dr
"Just an ambient fantasy loop I made. I use the Novation Peak with its build in effects. I use the Arturia Minifreak with the Strymon Brig and Cloudburst. The Elektron Model:Samples is being used for the rain effect playback. The rain samples are from 'SoundsForYou'. Use this track for D & D campaign BGM / background music or for what ever. I do not authorize use in ai training."

Digitakt Machines // OS 1.50 Upgrade
video upload by Elektron
"Machines. The Digitakt way.
As found in Octatrack, Model:Cycles or Syntakt, the concept of Machines has now also reached Digitakt.
There are now several new ways to play back your sweet samples. This new OS 1.50 Upgrade brings four different Machines, all with their own different flavor. Repitch for automatic classic beat-matching, Werp for a little quirky old-school way of time warping, and Slice - to chop up your audio and placing the pieces back in any order you like. And finally Oneshot, your default Machine for playing your sample forward, backward or looped. Again, again, and again.
To top things up we also added a new way to record your samples. You can now set a fixed number of steps for your recording. And, Sample Rate Reduction that can be inserted before or after the filter. Just as gritty as you like it to be.
Go find out more and download this new tasty OS 1.50 Upgrade here: https://bit.ly/3IFttuq"
Digitakt OS 1.50 Upgrade Overview
"As found in Octatrack, Model:Cycles or Syntakt, the concept of Machines has now also reached Digitakt. In this tutorial, we explore the four Machines - Oneshot, Werp, Repitch, and Slice - that come with the OS 1.50 Upgrade.
We also cover some creative tools that allow you to push Digitakt’s sequencer and samples further. For example, using Trigless Trigs to parameter lock values without re-triggering samples, using random locks in Slice to get new rhythmic ideas, or using Werp to really pull apart samples and turn them into completely new elements."

"The Dreadnaught Factor" - Akai MPC X + Behringer 2600 Blue Marvin + ASM Hydrasynth + MINIFREAK...
video upload by Patrick Manderson
"'The Dreadnaught Factor' was recorded live early Saturday morning on January 21st 2023 using a MIDI sequencer, a room full of synthesizers and drum machines. Four analog mixers were used with a rack of outboard effects and mixed stereo. Mixing and automation was controlled by the sequencer directly to the synthesizers. The final reorded required manual muting of the of mixer channels to suppress the noise coming from some of the devices including the Korg Minilogue. The video was taken afterwards.
"The Dreadnaught Factor" was inspired by the box art of an early 80s video game for Intellivision. It featured a number of spaceships on a blue background much like the 2600 Blue Marvin featured in this music. The melody and chord arrangement originated from a short piece I created several years ago and later merged it with a small piece of unfinished music titled "Driod Mischief". I was pleased how the two sounded when arranged in this way. I look forward to finishing "Droid Mischief".
The Hydrasynth plays a few different roles in Dreadnaught, even doubling up with the BassStation adding filter modulations to the bass parts [3:23].
The Korg MS2000 never disappoints when you use its modulation sequencer and its charasmatic digital distortion. Several parts were played, twisting and swirling in the stereo field. Modulated tremolos off-rhythm and hypnotic.
Korg Minilogue XD has so much range - such a wide sweet spot of sound. Especially when you use the digital user oscillators. Resonating plucks and unnatural reverbs works well for my tastes.
The Behringer 2600 Blue Marvin and Model D is featured in the "Droid Mischief" part at [2:58].
The notes were played over MIDI. Volume modulation was controlled with CV from the *Akai Pro MPC X*.
The Model D ran through the inputs of the Roland TR8s for its Phaser effect. The TR8S did nothing else.
There are a few dark pad patches I re-use often on the Oberheim Matrix 1000 playing disonant chords throughout.
The Elektron Analog Rytm MkII provides most of the rhythms. Each of its 12 voices run on its own MIDI channel with a full complement of continuous controllers. Lots of CC modulation was used on some of the voices. The internal sequencer was not used. All notes and automation comes from the *MPC X*.
Arturia's MINIFREAK layered in a few bits throughout and is featured at the very end [6:11]. Macros were modulated from the *MPC X*.
Korg's Radias is 4 part multitimbral. On part #4 I keep a carefully curated drum kit synthesized with noise, sines and filters - mixed with some of the built in drum samples. Part #1 featured a vocal "ah-ha" patch [3:01] using one of the vowel waves, a formant insert effect and careful modulation of its dual filters.
My favorite guitar pluck patch on the Korg EX-8000 makes an appearance.
At the center of it all, the MPC X seemlesssly connects to everything and manages to keep all devices in perfect sync. As mentioned before - meticulous editing of MIDI events is a breeze and very comfortable over long editing sessions. Approximately 21 tracks were used including Control Voltage for the modulars.

Elektron MODEL SAMPLES and WIND QUARTET + bastl ikarie Perfomance and Review
video upload by the machine in the botanical garden
"Elektron MODEL SAMPLES + bastl ikarie and WIND QUARTET: Oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn (assembled in the Cre8audio Nifty case). Perfomance and short review.
I have written the score with the Staffpad score player and editor. The library used for the wind sounds is Berlin woodwinds from Orchestral tools (Staffpad version).
The composition is titled: Painting XI
'Model:Samples' is the little brother of the Elektron family of sampling machines.
A sampler is a machine or software that can manipulate captured sounds.
The possibilities of sampling today are practically infinite and the variety of processes that can be carried out on the audio are very sophisticated.
'Model:samples' doesn't stand out for its sophistication, that's what its older brothers are for.
'Model:samples' stands out for combining not only the power and versatility of the specific sequencer of Elektron machines but also for its ease of use and immediate control.
Since how quickly and effectively it can become a musical instrument: Most of the mechanisms to variate any sound are within reach of a single movement of your hand. Your imagined ideas can be quickly consolidated into a result on the machine; as when you play a key on the piano or a string on the guitar.
I've converted the mono signal from the 'Model:sample' to a stereo one by letting it flow through the `Bastl Instruments´ 'Ikarie' filter. A dual-mode stereo filter whose gain has also given it a lot of color.
I did only make use of a single sample for this topic. One of those which the machine is factory-equipped with. But it has been enough for a wind quartet that aspired to become a quintet to sign it up on their team.
The full lineup of this quintette is now composed by a clarinet, an oboe, a horn, a bassoon and, finally, 'Model:samples'.
There must have been good harmony between them, since they have promised to meet more times in the future to play together in this very special garden, where things from yesterday, today and, perhaps at some point, tomorrow meet up together."
