1969 Moog IIIP Vintage Modular Synthesizer For Sale or NYC Studio Use

"The Moog modular was one of the first commercially available synthesizers. Sold in different configurations, the Moog IIIP consisted of 3 portable cabinets. Containing ten (!) 901 series oscillators, the best lowpass and highpass filters in the biz, and a magical spring reverb that makes things sound more organic, we can't think of any other synth that matches the warmth and fatness of this genuine 1969 vintage Moog modular. Wendy Carlos’s classic album Switched on Bach and I Feel Love by Donna Summer were recorded on similar Moog modular systems. We just finished refurbishing this gorgeous example (assuming we don’t find any problems as we continue to test it). Restoration was done in stages and took many months to complete. Total tech time spent was around 85 hours. We hit a snag when some parts we ordered turned out to be fakes - a sadly common occurrence these days - but we eventually managed to track down some legit replacements. We originally planned to sell this system, but after spending some time patching it, we don’t know if we can let this one go! If this system was set up in a commercial studio here in New York City where it was available for use, would you be interested? If so, please email us. Or, make us a serious offer and if it's tempting enough, maybe we'll sell it. We'd also consider trades for similar vintage modular systems (Roland System 700, Buchla 200, Polyfusion, Emu Modular, ARP 2500, etc). 3 - does it do anything a Minimoog can't do

if the answer to any of the above is 'yes' then I want one, quite badly

Telemark covers the snares, 2600 on kick, Nyborgs shaping some chord-like structures and lead lines, and a Fusebox thrown in for extra color.

The setup blends rare vintage oddities with modern analog gear — sequencers, synths, eurorack, drums — for a raw, all-hardware performance.

"A rare and revered classic, the ElectroComp 101 was Electronic Music Laboratories’ evolution of the original ElectroComp 100—crafted by the Connecticut-based company known for its educational and experimental instruments. Released as a flexible alternative to the ARP 2600 and Minimoog, the EML-101 brought serious innovation to semi-modular design.

Unlike its contemporaries, the 101 featured four voltage-controlled oscillators—two of which operate sub-sonically for LFO duties—with morphable waveforms accessible via rotary selectors. It’s duophonic, allowing up to two-note polyphony, and provides a unique modulation architecture where control voltage and audio signals are treated interchangeably, offering highly creative patching possibilities.

Electrocomp Synthesizers EML-200 and EML-300 Fully Refurbished

The EML-200 took 25 hours and the EML-300 took 13 hours so far but needs what could be several more hours of work because a couple of the keypad contacts are still malfunctioning occasionally after the first cleaning. Refurbishing 50 year old electronics to work like new again takes a lot of hard work and attention to detail.

Pearlman Foundation will launch ARP@100: A Centennial Celebration of Alan R. Pearlman’s Legacy with EMEAPP at the Museum of Music Technology. The iconic ARP 2600 Blue Meanie will be proudly displayed alongside an array of other ARP classics: the versatile Quadra, the expressive Soloist series, multiple iterations of the legendary Odyssey, the innovative Avatar, the powerful Chroma, the punchy Axxe, the compact Little Brother, and even a remarkable 16-Voice Electronic Piano – many of which will be playable!

Countless composers, musicians, and filmmakers worldwide have incorporated the ARP 2500 and ARP 2600 into their work, including early adopters Pete Townsend (in the “Who’s Next” album) and Elton John (in “Funeral for a Friend”). Stevie Wonder, an early adopter of the 2600, had his control panels labeled in Braille. The ARP 2600 was also responsible for the voice of R2-D2 in Star Wars films, and the 2500 was used to communicate with aliens in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Alan R. Pearlman’s legacy as an engineer and inventor began at an early age. A fascination with sound occupied his interest, and he spent time as a child building amateur radios. In 1948, as a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, he wrote, “The electronic instrument’s value is chiefly as a novelty. With greater attention on the part of the engineer to the needs of the musician, the day may not be too remote when the electronic instrument may take its place as a versatile, powerful, and expressive instrument.”

"A Human League Favourite - You probably never realised you've heard it, but its a super flexible things. The Yamaha CS-15 from 1979 has got 2 state variable VCFs, 2 VCAs, 2 VCOs, 2 ADSR envelopes, 2 Pitch envelopes... and 2 independent routings - you get the gist. The Yamaha CS series isn't as well known as Moogs, Arps and Oberheims, but they can pack quite a punch.

A 12dB filter may have been its future downfall, but its more like a mini modular (like the Kawai 100F I demo'd here ) [posted here]

There's essentially a single 2 VCO monosynth, plus an additional path with noise and one of the VCOs. The additional patch (the upper section) has its own filter, VCA etc. The only real downside is a single LFO for all modulation. The CS30 takes things further but this is a more compact and cheaper unit."

"What's the difference sonically? I've not heard these 2 demo'd side by side in depth. We know the specs - Melbourne Instruments Nina has 12 voices, each containing 2 VCOS plus a digital oscillator, and the Melbourne Instruments Delia uses virtual analog to do the same thing with 6 voices - with some 'Paraphonic PLUS' 12 voice modes.

There are other additions in the Delia, like FM, an extra LFO and envelope plus oyu can have dual effects in parallel or serial.

BUT.. what's the consequence of replacing the VCOs with the VA oscillators?"
