Prophet X / XL Sample Import and Mapping App Now Available from 8Dio
8Dio’s Sample Mapping Utility for the Prophet X and XL is now available. See this previous post for a demo. The official press release from Sequential follows:
"San Francisco, CA—Dec 18, 2018—Sequential today announced that the Prophet X, the company’s flagship samples-plus-synthesis instrument, now allows users to import their own samples to create custom instruments and content. Sample import and mapping is done via an easy-to-use software application created by 8Dio, Sequential’s factory sample content provider for the Prophet X. The application is available for download as a free public Beta from 8Dio’s website.
Because the Prophet X was designed to accommodate up to 50 GB of 16-bit, 48 kHz user content, custom sample import has been a highly anticipated feature of the instrument since its introduction in June of this year. The 50 GB of user sample storage, along with the 150 GB of internal factory samples make the Prophet X the most capacious of any hardware instrument supporting sample playback available today.
Sample playback is only part of the Prophet X package, however, as the instrument’s sound engine actually powers two simultaneous sample-based instruments plus two high-resolution digital oscillators, and adds a full complement of traditional synthesis tools, all processed through analog filters. Dual digital effects and a 64-step polyphonic sequencer round out the package. In standard performance mode, the instrument provides bi-timbral, 8-voice stereo, or 16-voice mono operation. 32-voice performance mode, which is a feature of the new 2.0 OS, allows paraphonic filter operation when using a single sampled instrument and oscillator.
“Letting users import their own material was an essential part of the Prophet X design from the beginning,” commented Dave Smith. “It makes what’s already our most sonically versatile instrument truly open-ended. We can’t wait to hear where musicians take it now. Things are going to get pretty wild.”
The Prophet X ($3,999 US MAP) and Prophet XL ($4,399 US MAP) are available from Sequential’s worldwide network of dealers.

"Friday, September 21, 2018 - Control presents Creative Synth Patching with ambient electronic artist Robert Rich & Paul Schreiber, founder and chief engineer of MOTM and Synthesis Technology.
Rich and Schreiber's long friendship and collaboration most recently found Rich as head beta-tester for Schreiber's epic E370 Quad Morphing VCO. This intimate evening brings the two friends together again for an exploratory discussion and a demo of Robert Rich's own style of patching techniques, to help the synthesist move beyond the basics of signal path. Rich also discusses his influences and recording techniques.
Thank you Robert Rich and Paul Schreiber.

Ladik S-090 Dual Probability Skipper
Published on Dec 18, 2018 Learning Modular
"As part of my algorithmic percussion case, I knew I wanted a "skipper" as part of it to either randomly drop beats, or to trigger two different sounds from the same pattern to create variety. I decided to try a Ladik S-090 because it had a couple of extra options, including two different randomization algorithms, and interaction between its two channels. I demonstrate all of those possibilities in this video; I hope you enjoy it.

'The Hustle': Ferocious Mullet - Cirklon vs Kurzweil K2600r, Eurorack, Kyma, TX81z, + Sherman FB2
Published on Jun 9, 2017 Frequency Manipulator
"A work in progress. I have got as far I can working purely in the K2600. I have run out of MIDI channels. I should have built my percussion with more concise use of resources.
Sequentix Cirklon Sequencer triggering 16 channels of Kurzweil K2600r. I spent time recording and preparing all the source material using Avid Protools, Redmatica KeyMapPro, and Chicken Systems Constructor. All the whizzy noises are from the Modular processed with the Kyma. There is TX81z through the Sherman FB2 Filterbank.
All the drum loops are playing from one program on one MIDI channel using layer-switching & rhythmic slices.
Vocals recorded by Liza in Russia."
