Trying to recreate Keith Emerson's sequencer trick of Karn Evil 9

video upload by Frap Tools

"Karn Evil 9 has one of the wildest endings in the history of music-made-with-synthesizers. Many tutorials focused on recreating the sequence note by note, trying to nail the sound, but we wanted to explore the technique to program a sequence that goes faster and faster until it stops. Thanks to the Usta sequencer, it was an easy game!

Original performance mentioned in the video: • Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Karn Evil 9 ... [below]

BTFLD Drum Ratchet & more 4-Bit pattern - Schlappy Patching 2025 EP.6

video upload by Stazma

"Today we will make some drum patterns using the 4-Bit modules once again but in a more predictable way, taking advantage of the reset input on the Nibblers.
We'll also have a look at a very fun way to generate "bursts" or rum rolls kind of pattern with the BTFLD being fed some slopes at it's input!

Have fun!"

From Korg M1 to Roland SH-4d: Reimagining a 1991 Track

video upload by Malvinus Music

"Reimagining 'Verso Dove': A Journey from 1991 to 2023

In 1991, I composed the track Verso Dove using my brand-new Korg M1, excited by the possibilities of its 8-track sequencer. Fast forward to 2023, and I decided to breathe new life into this song with the Roland SH-4d, completely rearranging and reinterpreting it.

Verso Dove, which means 'toward where', reflects an existential question I asked myself as a kid: What would I become? What did I want to be? The fear of the unknown, the uncertainty of the future—it all lived within this track. That’s why I chose it to be part of my record Synthetic Horizons For Dreamers (SH-4d). It connects me to my younger self, and through music, I want to reassure him: you will make it.

Come along for the journey—this is going to be fun. Peace! 🎶✨

🔊 Gear Used in This Performance:
✅ Korg M1 – bringing the original 1991 composition to life with its classic 8-track sequencer
✅ Roland SH-4d – reimagining and modernizing the track with a fresh arrangement in 2023

The most incredible drone synth ever played | Vhikk X by FORGE TME

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Exploring the most remarkable, evocative hardware drone/synth voice I've played in memory.

00:00 - intro interval drone
01:36 - another interval drone
03:02 - bass pulses
04:34 - bass ghosts
05:43 - sentimental interval drone
07:04 - happy accidents
08:01 - wavetable drone
09:01 - evil machine pulses
10:46 - deep dark drone
11:41 - ghostly drone
13:55 - beautiful melodic drone

Don't let the patch points and eurorack format fool you: the Vhikk X is a mostly standalone drone and synth voice that has oscillators, filter, and effects, and outputs at line level if you want it. The only thing it's really missing is a modulation source, which can be your fingers turning the knobs or, here, the Pamela's New Workout. I think Vhikk X and Pam's in a 32hp case would be the most interesting and unique drone synth I've ever heard, period. And then you can patch v/oct CV in, like with a Keystep, and play it like a mono synth!

This is a series of explorations on the Vhikk X, to show you the range of sounds it can produce. The Vhikk X is known for brutal or crushing sounds, but I think it has a lot of subtlety and beauty throughout it, and I've tried to show that here. Hopefully you agree.

I'm planning on turning the last patch into some sort of live performance with a bit of extra synth, so hopefully that will be up soon. For now, I hope this gives you an idea of why I'm so blown away by the Vhikk X.

Recorded to a stereo output with no additional audio processing."

Valkure Guitar Organ for iOS and Apple Silicon Macs

video upload by YonacSoftware

"Available now [On the App Store]

Evoke a bewildering variety of polyphonic organ sounds directly from your guitar! Valkurë (pronounced VAL-KUR-EE) transforms your raw strings into a big, multi-timbral instrument in realtime, and without resorting to guitar-to-MIDI trickery. Preserve the crucial dynamics of your playing -such as vibrato, bends, and slides- while maintaining thorough control over the final sound. Complete with a full range of organ parameters, extensive options, built-in rotary speaker emulation, virtual tube amplifier, and analog inspired effects, Valkurë is a powerful addition to your guitar arsenal.

The unique organ module achieves guitar-to-organ transformation via proprietary signal processing algorithms, thereby retaining full polyphony. Valkurë offers three different organ models that vary from mellow to aggressive. The main tone generator features nine registers (drawbars) that allow you to dial in overtones in a five octave range — much like a tonewheel organ. In addition, two special “pedal” registers provide harmonically rich bass and sub bass tones that can work alone or in combination with the principal organ tones.

A built-in percussion generator inspired by “B” and “C” series organs is triggered by pick attack, and features switches for percussion length, level, as well as harmonic. Additional preferences allow you to modify these, as well as specify the sensitivity of the trigger detector. The Chorus/Vibrato unit is modeled after the famed scanner circuit, and features six modes.

The rotary speaker module offers three unique cabinets to choose from. Each cabinet features individually configurable virtual horn and drum drivers. The rotary unit provides many options, including micing angle, inertia, slow/fast speeds, additional room microphone, and more. The built-in amplifier is designed to complement the rotary speaker, and offers three different amp models that feature our newest tube emulation technology, as well as a full range of tonal controls.

The settings panel contains a wide variety of parameters for fine tuning the organ. These include variable attack to obtain an auto-generated volume “swell” effect, as well as thorough control over the organ’s timbre and dynamics via Taper, Resonance, Body, Air, and Leakage parameters. Dedicated variable Boost controls for organ and pedal modules help add fullness and sizzle to the basic tones. Valkurë is rounded out by the addition of analog-modeling effects, including tape delay, 3-band Baxandall style EQ, as well as built in compressor.

Besides working as both a standalone app and an AUv3 plugin, Valkurë is also compatible with Apple Silicon Macs. It comes packaged with many professional features, including convenient MIDI learn for over 75 parameters, a powerful preset management system, 128 factory presets, and more.
