Seven Sisters Percussion Synthesizer From Recovery Effects Introduction

video upload by recoverysounds

"Seven Sisters is a percussion synthesizer with seven voices that aims to capture the essence of late '70s instruments like the Syncussion and Syndrum. This instrument offers an expanded number of voices, with six playable simultaneously and one switchable voice. The editable parameters are limited to essentials like pitch and decay, making them easy to control in a live setting without the need for menu diving.

Each voice is equipped with multiple oscillators, noise generators, and filters, providing rich, complex tones beyond the capabilities of the original devices. This allows you to recreate classic sounds or craft more realistic snare, hi-hat, and cymbal effects. The result is a powerful percussion synthesizer that blends the essence of early drum synthesis with modern flexibility.

You can trigger Seven Sisters using the buttons at the bottom of the unit or trigger inputs at the top. It's the perfect companion for your Beatstep Pro, Korg SQ-64, Eurorack, or other trigger sequencers. The compact design leaves ample space for controlling the unit in a live setting. Seven Sisters is the perfect tool for integrating vintage and classic synth sounds into your music production and beat-making, whether in the studio or on stage.

Designed and assembled in Seattle, Washington.

Operates on a standard 9Vdc Boss-style power supply (not included, but available for purchase).

Includes a one-year limited warranty if registered within 30 days of delivery.

Output is line level 3.5mm mono or stereo (dual mono)

Dimensions: 12” x 4 5/8” x 1 3/4”"

How to make 80s thriller/slasher/giallo music | Tutorial and breakdown

video upload by Espen Kraft

"How to make a thriller/slasher track with both old and new synths, samplers and drum machines. Put together and mixed as it would have sounded coming out an 80s movie.
I've always been a huge fan of the "giallo" thriller/slasher movie subgenre championed by Italian directors like Dario Argento, Mario Bava, Sergie Martino and more.
These movies often had absolutely mind-blowing violence topped with fantastic music.
One of these composers, Claudio Simonetti did many awesome tracks for Dario Argento, and among them the themes from 'Tenebre' (Tenebrae) a thriller in the giallo style, from 1982.
Another composer I draw a lot from is Fabio Frizzi. His work with Lucio Fulci has always been a great source of inspiration to me.

Midnight Drive 5 is my go at making a similar styled track. I've gone overboard with the intro which is supposed to be from a film, but these are all sound effects I've put together for this.

Find the track here:

00:00 Intro
01:25 Bass (Prophet VS)
03:00 Strings (Juno-106)
05:24 Synthbrass in the intro of the song (Prophet X)
07:16 Main Synth Theme
08:26 Counterpoint to the synth theme
09:23 Intro synth part to signal violence
10:22 Putting it all together and adding on
15:13 Making it sound like movie violence (sound effects)

Roma Modulare 2024 Synth Event Set for Rome on September 27-28

video upload by Roma Modulare

Press release follows:

Roma Modulare 2024 announced as international synthesizer and music production expo in Italian capital city namesake

ROME, ITALY: organisers of Roma Modulare 2024 — the most important Italian event dedicated to modular and desktop synthesizers plus professional audio production — are proud to announce that it will be being held as a two-day international expo at Forte Trionfale in the centre of Rome on September 27-28…

As an international expo hosted in the capital city to which it, in part, owes its appropriate appellation, Roma Modulare 2024 readily represents the most important Italian music industry diary date for all musicians and audio professionals — particularly those who are passionate about modular synthesizers, as also alluded to by name. Notable headliners amongst its 80-plus exhibitors include German electronic musical instrument manufacturer Doepfer — duly credited with creating the Eurorack small-format modular system around which its ever- expanding A-100 ANALOG MODULAR SYSTEM is based, subsequently swelling to industry-standard status with hundreds of third-party manufacturers making compatible modules; Latvian Eurorack modules and desktop instruments creator Erica Synths — showcasing the intuitive nature of its PĒRKONS HD-01 desktop drum synth and aggressive timbres of its Black series Eurorack modules; hand-built Scottish Eurorack module-maker Instruō — instigating eye-catching aesthetics with the likes of its arbhar Granular Audio Processor and Lúbadh Dual Looper modules; American musical instruments and Eurorack solutions provider TipTop Audio — advancing production of Don Buchla’s trailblazing 200 series and converting it to Eurorack standards as the 200t series project; Mark Verbos-designed, Berlin-assembled Eurorack format synthesizer module specialist Verbos Electronics — whose Harmonic Oscillator module is now available in Eurorack for the first time; and American Eurorack modular synthesizers and guitar pedals producer WMD — back in business and announcing a new drum module; and many more.

The two-day international expo will be held in Rome’s Trionfale district within Forte Trionfale, one of 15 forts surrounding the eternal city. Built between 1882 and 1886 in an area covering 21 hectares, the military complex was famed for Italian aviator, aeronautical engineer, and Arctic explorer Umberto Nobile’s airship departing for the North Pole from one of the fort’s hangers in 1926. Today the location is part of an urban regeneration program, aiming to enhance creativity and create connections between people, an admirable objective that is not lost on Roma Modulare 2024’s organisers. “Our greatest desire is that Roma Modulare provides the best opportunity possible for musicians, producers, technicians, manufacturers, and even amateurs to come into contact with each other to strengthen the Italian music market and make it international,” announces Alberto Rossetto, Founder & CEO of Rome’s Milk Audio Store — specialising in Eurorack modules and studio equipment — which has partnered with K-ARRAY Audio Solutions — founded in Italy as one of the most innovative high-technology professional speaker manufacturers in the world — and Doc Servizi — an important cooperative created by a group of musicians to help navigate the challenging entertainment sector in Italy — to organise Roma Modulare 2024.

Although a 900 m2 area within Forte Trionfale will be dedicated to hosting Roma Modulare 2024’s 80-plus exhibitor booths, part of the venue will be dedicated to creating a Workshop Area, where, over two days, 20 speakers will take turns in presenting new products or exploring topics relating to the entertainment industry (with the full program listed here). But, by its very nature, Roma Modulare 2024 is also about the assemblage of and meeting with electronic music artists. As such, a Live Area will be opened up in the garden outside the venue between 1:00 pm to 11.30 pm each day, where electronic music artists will effectively play a non-stop live performance with their modular synthesizers. It is fair to say, then, that Roma Modulare 2024 promises to be an exciting event for all attendees, Italian or otherwise, and all appetites will, quite literally, be catered for with on-site food and beverages being served from opening (10:00 am) to closing (midnight).

Tickets to Roma Modulare 2024 are available to purchase as a two-day pass — priced at €22.00 EUR — or as one-day tickets for either September 27 or September 28 entry — each priced at €13.50 EUR — directly from here: https://www.romamodulare.it/tickets/ (All tickets include entry to the expo itself and an evening party, while entry is free for under 16s.)

LARIX ELEKTRO Introduces TIME-SHIFTER Eurorack Module

TIME-SHIFTER Presentation
TIME-SHIFTER technical explanation

"This is the new TIME-SHIFTER ! A "time machine" for eurorack.

Or how to shift after or before gate or trig signals.
Now, the module in depth.

The module was presented at SynthFest and SuperBooth, and is available on september 2024."

via LARIX ELEKTRO

WHAT'S THAT THING ?
The Time-Shifter is a delay for gate or trigger signales.
As all good time machines it can delay after and before (!).

The first idea is to find a way to build a swing or a groove. So to decide which steps of which track is decayed, and how much.

To do this, it is necessary to be able to shift the events after and before. But before, we can't predict when an event will appear...

The solution is to decay everything, and then, decaying less than the others events.
So comparing to the new decaying events, it will sounds like it appear before.

The MAIN SHIFT defines this new reference.
So if you enter the main CLK signal into the input, the output of this circuit can be used as the new CLK reference.

The four circuits A B C and D works according to the value of the MAIN SHIFT reference:
- When the knob is centered, the time decay is the same.
- Left, means less time decay, so the event will appear before.
- Right, means more time, so the event will appear after.

Extend your module:
The module can be enriched by one expansion modules:
- The AttV-4 adds to the CV entries an adjustment of the CV value by an attenuverter.
The connectors on the back of the module save connectivity at the front.

Typical use:
- Groove (or swing, etc.) controlable by CV (!)
- Realignment of gates sequences.
(When using multiple sequencers with different latency)
- Signals sequencing adjustment.
(Be sur that a RST arrives at the right moment, for example)
(Be sur that a your S&H module sample after signal stabilization, for example)
