Roland RS-202

via this auction

note this is the one from this video.

"Roland RS 202 , string sound of the 70's The sound is warm and grainy and with a bit of external reverb you can really pull off a great synth string sound.

A great sounding analog string synth with an easy to use front control panel and containg the great roland ensemble sound used in so many roland synths of this era. Cosmetically this keyboard is ok , it has some chipped paint and scratches. Its in 100% working order and sounds great! I think it makes a great vintage analog gig instrument due to the fact of its heavy metal faceplate and being built into a flight case... a good article about the rs 202 from sound on sound"

Parallel Worlds "Shade"

A few new pics from Bakis of Parallel Worlds. Bakis has a new release out named "Shade". You can find more info on the release at DiN, the record label as well as Bakis' news page. You can find ordering details here. Some words on the production from Bakis: "almost no sampled percussion has been used in the whole "Shade" album. most of the percussion / drums and percussive loops have been synthesized in great detail, using the analogue modular walls. takes much time, but the results are worth it!"

BTW, you might also recognize the name Bakis from these posts. Bakis never fails to let us know when new Serge modules are announced. You will also find more images of his impressive studio, links to interviews, his music and more. He is the moderator of the Doepfer A100 list and was extensively involved with sound design for Analogue Systems. I have his CD, "Obsessive Realism" and it is excellent - brooding at times, angelic at others. It is filled with textures against analog percussive rhythms.

Update: album cover added to this post.

MeggySeq 1.0 Released

You can find the full details here

"MeggySeq is a step sequencer for the Meggy Jr. RGB from Evil Mad Science

MeggySeq does not make any noise itself! It sends values over a serial connection to another device. I have built it to talk to an Arduino with a Wave Shield attached

MeggySeq has 8 patterns of 16 steps each. You can set each of those steps to play one of 8 WAV files on the waveshield. You can play the pattern back, stop it playing, and change the tempo. You can copy patterns from one slot to another. You can even save all 8 patterns from RAM to EEPROM so they won't be lost when you turn off the Meggy Jr.

You can loop patterns into longer compositions (up to 8 patterns long) and edit the patterns and pattern parameters (like tempo, loop length, and pattern length) without stopping playback.

You can edit one pattern while another is playing, and if you change patterns during playback, the first pattern will finish playing before jumping to the newly-selected pattern (or the next pattern in the loop if you've turned on looping)."

Nord Modular G2X Part1

YouTube via Ema996Roma.
"Illustrazione di alcune funzioni del sintetizzatore modulare di casa Clavia"
The first sequence does sound like the original Nord Lead and Nord Modular. It's interesting because the Nord Lead 3 is a completely different sound engine. It sounds different than the original Nord Lead. The original Nord Modular is based on the same engine as the original Nord Lead. The G2 was supposed to be a new engine as well. I was always curious if it was based on the Nord Lead 3, or a third core engine. It's great to hear it covering the original Nord Lead sound. BTW, if anyone knows more about the different engines feel free to comment.

Update: remember you can get the free G2 soft synth from Clavia here. It's the editor but it is the same engine and will produce sound without the hardware. For realz... The limitations are minor (monophonic only) considering its a free full blown modular.

Laser harp in the microkorg

YouTube via cmatsuoka
"This is my first attempt at creating a program for the microkorg, so I picked up a sound that is easily recognizable. This is certainly not the best Synthex "laser harp" sound recreation around, but it should provide a good start for tweaks and improvements. The idea should work with any two-oscillator analog or analog-modeled synthesizer with oscillator sync, filtering and some kind of pitch envelope for the sync sweep. Actual values used in each parameter are shown in parentheses."

Update: a slightly different version via Tjoppy.

A limited run of these will be available for sale - PM me if you're interested."

Diabolical Devices Modified Juno-106

YouTube via bigcitymusic

"Here's another very cool modified synth from Diabolical Devices. This time it's a classic Roland Juno-106.

We're using the arpeggiator from the Elektron Monomachine to drive the Juno. This Juno has controls for filter cutoff and resonance on each of the six voices. In "Poly II" mode the voices fire in succession and here is a little taste of what is possible.

The overall filter controls still work when you engage the mods. Each voice has it's own filter mod on/off control, and there are also 3.5mm control voltage input jacks to modulate the resonance and cutoff externally. This keyboard is a lot of fun. For flavor we're running the Juno outs into a Vermona Retubeverb."

This is the original Receptor

auction details:
"Muse Research Standard Receptor Rack Synthesizer Plug-In Module
1.0 Revision C. 1GB RAM. 150GB hard drive. With Ivory and Elektrik Piano installed

General Description
One instrument... Two rack spaces... Millions of sounds... Infinite possibilities.
That's the Muse Research Receptor - a unique and versatile musical instrument that takes the best software-based synthesizers and effects processors available, and turns them into real instruments. With the push of a button, Receptor can transform itself from a sampler into a guitar processor; from a drum module into a synthesizer; or from a delicate mastering tool into a screaming drawbar organ.

Plugin software has completely changed the way we make music. Puny samples crammed into tiny chips are a thing of the past. Fixed architecture synths, by their very nature, are forever incapable of adapting to an ever-shifting sonic landscape. In today's musical world, virtual instruments reign supreme. But using plugin software can be an exasperating experience. Stability concerns and high latencies limit their effectiveness on stage, and high CPU demands limit their flexibility in the studio.
Receptor solves these problems by combining everything that's good about plugins with everything that's good about hardware."

AlioNoctis_Ghost_Love

"AlioNoctis Pro VSTi Synthesizer - Sounds from the Other World
In some way AlioNoctis adds up many of the benefits from ProtoPlasm, STS-33 and Atonoise VST/i with the ease of use
many still love with the STS-21. In fact this new VSTi synthesizer by HG Fortune goes soundwise beyond all the
aforementioned ones. So you can expect what's typical for most of HG Fortune synths: Vivid athmos, textures, pads
but also some rhythmicated sounds, all can be enriched by the out-of-this-world flavour of Inferno, Spooks and
of course the highly efficient Bass Enhancer.

This is a new mark- and milestone in the VSTi synthesizer development by HG Fortune.

Pro Version basic features:
# three digital PCM-wave oscillators powered by 128 selectable waveforms (as external sf2 file)
# 3rd oscillator with 8 slot wavemorphing selectable
# Oscillator Mix via X/Y Pad and various modulations
# two resonant filters (24db Lowpass and 12db Highpass)
# three ADSR-style envelope generators
# Inferno for adding generated upper harmonics
# Spook 1 & 2 effects with X/Y Pad and various modulations
# Super Modulation X/Y Control Pad to modulate up to 10 destinations simultaneuosly
# LFO Section with 7 LFO plus one Sample & Hold most with bpm synced tempo and key sync
# very efficient Bass Enhancer
# 8 dedicated Lazy buttons
# Straight and easy access for editing on the GUI

Of course the free version does not have all the benefits of the Pro version, so there are only:
# 5 voices instead of 10
# 64 patches for the internal bank - though 3 add. banks of 64 patches come with the free version.
# only one Lazy button for all related parameters instead of 8 incl. 7 for dedicated sections."
