Akai MPC One (why it's great with midi and eurorack hardware!)

Published on May 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"The Akai MPC One (and also the new MPC Live II) is not just a great sampler, but also a powerful centerpiece of your hardware studio. The MPC velocity sensitive pads are great for programming in drum patterns with the built in samples or ones that you record or import. There are built in synths as well, and the MPC One can sequence tons of midi hardware as well as CV/Gate hardware like eurorack or semi-modular synths or even vintage pre-midi gear. There are 8 CV outputs which can be configured any way you like to match the gear you are using with it.

If you want to use an external synth more than once in a track you can also easily sample it into the MPC One. The sample gets saved into the project so your samples stay organized. The MPC One is a great sampler/sequencer alternative to all of the XOX style sequencers, you can add some more human feel to your patterns by programming them in with the pads, but you also have quantization or piano roll style editing options available.

Cumberland, RI USA (June 9, 2022) Akai Professional, a leading manufacturer of music equipment for performers and producers announces the upcoming MPC 2.11 features update, free for registered MPC users and available on June 23, 2022. This feature update provides MPC music creators with new tools and enhancements for better productions with a more creative and organized workflow.

The new Sounds Mode is a vibrant multi-faceted browser that puts all the MPC instruments front and center. Dive into any plugin and search the presets by category or, cycle through and preview sounds individually. Save up to 256 presets for quick recall on the Favorites Tab and lay out your projects for one-touch loading on the Setlists Tab, enabling faster load times in between song performances.

MPC 2.11 also adds 2 new plugin effects. The new AIR Flavor plugin adds instant vinyl simulation to any sound source. Add flutter, tube saturation, distortion, and more for rich, textured manipulation from 30 different Timbers. Additionally, the new AIR Amp Sim insert effect delivers sweet and crunchy distortion, EQ and tone color to samples, vocals, drums, synths, bass, and yes—guitars—or any other sound source. NAMM: Akai Professional MPK25

"AKAI PRO EXPANDS MPK KEYBOARD SERIES WITH NEW 25-KEY MODEL

MPK49 Keyboard Controller with MPC Pads Gets MPK25 Sibling

Cumberland, R.I. (Jan. 15, 2009) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces MPK25, a new addition to its popular MPK series of keyboard controllers with MPC pads. The MPK25 will be on display at the 2009 NAMM Show in Anaheim, Calif., January 15 – 18, 2009 at the Akai Professional booth, number 6400.

The MPK25 draws on the design of the popular MPK49, the first keyboard ever to feature genuine MPC pads. It features a 25-key, semi-weighted keyboard with aftertouch, 12 MPC pads, Q-Link controls and MPC technology. Its smaller, more portable size makes the MPK25 the perfect travel companion. Its small footprint can fit in a musician’s lap on the couch or on a plane, enabling them to create tracks whenever inspiration strikes.

The MPK series features Akai Professional-exclusive MPC pads that are pressure and velocity-sensitive to capture every nuance of the user’s creativity. The pads can access four banks of sounds, so performers can have 48 samples at their fingertips with the touch of a button.

The MPK25 offers extensive assignable controls through its Q-Link section. The MPK25 gives players 32 parameters of hands-on control through 12 virtual knobs and four virtual buttons, each of which can access two different banks of assignment via a bank-change control.

Two technologies pioneered in the MPC series and built into the MPK series are MPC Note Repeat and MPC Swing. These note-modifying features can be heard in many of the most popular tracks over the last two decades. MPC Note Repeat automatically plays a rhythmic pattern, such as 16th notes on a hi-hat, for accuracy and speed of entry. MPC Swing is sometimes referred to as "the heart and soul of hip hop". Users can specify exactly the degree and timing of swing they want to apply for the perfect feel.

The MPK25 has an arpeggiator, which enables performers to develop creative riffs in seconds. The arpeggiator features six different modes and can have its own swing settings independent of the MPC Note Repeat settings.

Because MPK series controllers are USB class compliant, they do not require custom drivers to work with Mac or PC computers and will work with all MIDI recording, sequencing and performance software. The MPK series is perfect for musicians, producers, DJs and VJs.

The MPK25 comes with Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition software, one of the most popular and powerful performance and production programs in the world. Ableton Live Lite enables musicians to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise and edit musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment.

“This new addition to the MPK line takes the expressive, creative capabilities of the MPK49 to new places,” said Gregg Stein, Director of Marketing, Akai Professional. “The MPK25 can go away for the weekend with you and it is easy to integrate into on-stage setups for multi-instrumentalists and drummers.”

The MPK25 keyboard controller with MPC pads will be available from pro audio and musical instrument retailers in Q2 at an MSRP of $399.99 and an estimated street price of $299.99.

Musikmesse: New from Akai

"AKAI PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCES MINIAK SYNTHESIZER

Virtual-Analog Synthesizer with Vocoder Developed in Partnership with Alesis

Cumberland, R.I. (April 1, 2009) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces the MINIAK, the synthesizer specifically designed for today’s music production and performance styles. The MINIAK will make its debut in Akai Professional's stand, B 21 in Hall 5.0 at Musikmesse, April 1 - 4, 2009. Held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Musikmesse is the world's largest fair for musical instruments, live music and the music business.

The MINIAK is the first synthesizer from Akai Professional developed in partnership with the world-renowned Alesis synthesis team. The MINIAK brings together Akai Professional’s excellent control feel with powerful DSP sound-generation technology. The MINIAK is a perfect synthesizer for producers in the studio and live performers on stage because, while it is extremely compact and portable, it is also a powerful instrument for creating sounds for performance and production.

The MINIAK enables users to create programs with up to eight multi-timbral voices, each with three oscillators. The user can create interesting and unique sounds and take advantage of the synthesizer’s more-than-600 preset sounds. Users can create complex and refined sounds using the MINIAK’s two multimode filters, three envelope generators, two LFOs, stereo effects and 40-band vocoder with gooseneck microphone. The MINIAK also has a comprehensive sequencer with step and dynamic real time phrase sequencing, a drum machine/rhythm sequencer and an arpeggiator.

Users will appreciate the MINIAK’s high-resolution, 24-bit balanced quarter-inch inputs and outputs for excellent sound quality. The MINIAK has a 37-key semi-weighted keyboard with velocity sensitivity for all-in-one performance. It can also be used as a sound source for MPCs, computer software and keyboards via MIDI.

“We have been watching a trend in music production towards using more synth sounds alongside samples,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional. “The MINIAK is the perfect way for anyone to get into synthesis, yet it is powerful enough for any professional to create the precise sonority they are after.”

The MINIAK will be available from musical instrument and professional audio retailers Q3, 2009."
"AKAI PRO FURTHER EXPANDS MPK LINE WITH 88-KEY MODEL

MPK88 Performance Controller Features Exclusive MPC Technologies

Cumberland, R.I. (April 1, 2009) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces the MPK88, a new addition to its popular MPK series of keyboard controllers with MPC pads and technology. The MPK88 will make its debut in Akai Professional’s stand, B 21 in Hall 5.0 at Musikmesse, April 1 - 4, 2009. Held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Musikmesse is the world's largest fair for musical instruments, live music and the music business.

The new MPK88 draws on the design of its siblings in the MPK series. The MPK49 and MPK25 each combine a MIDI-over-USB keyboard controller with genuine MPC pads and a sampling of the technologies that have made Akai Professional’s MPC series such an iconic music-production tool. The MPK88 brings the utility and creative control of its siblings to more dedicated piano and keyboard players, thanks to its fully-weighted, hammer-action keyboard with assignable keyboard split and aftertouch. Akai Professional designed this performance keyboard controller to specifically deliver the feel that serious keyboardists demand in a high-quality instrument.

In addition to the premium keybed, the MPK88 gives the player 16 MPC pads that are velocity and pressure sensitive and can access four banks of sounds each, for access to 64 sounds at any time. The MPC pads are the most recognizable feature of the MPC series, which has been among the most influential devices in the creation and production of music for the last two decades. The MPK88 also puts the player in command of their software with assignable Q-Link faders, knobs and buttons. The user can assign any Q-Link to control nearly any parameter in their software for hands-on, mouse-free performance. The MPK88 also has two assignable footswitch inputs and an expression pedal input.

Two technologies pioneered in the MPC series and built into the MPK88 are MPC Note Repeat and MPC Swing. These note-modifying features can be heard in many of the most popular tracks over the last two decades. MPC Note Repeat is a capability that enables the MPK to automatically play a rhythm pattern, such as 16th notes on a hi-hat, for accuracy and speed of entry. MPC Swing is sometimes referred to as "the heart and soul of hip hop," because it turns perfectly aligned sequences into human feeling time alignments. Users can specify exactly the degree and timing of swing they want to apply for the perfect feel. The MPK88 also has an arpeggiator, which enables performers to build creative riffs instantly.

The MPK88 sends MIDI values over USB and a traditional MIDI jack. The controller works with most MIDI recording, sequencing and performance software as well as sound modules, synthesizers and other MIDI-compliant hardware, for musical performers from keyboard players to producers to DJs and VJs.

The MPK25 and MPK88 come with Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition software, one of the most popular and powerful performance and production programs in the world. Ableton Live Lite enables musicians to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise and edit musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment.

“Professional keyboard performers now have the control they need on stage and in the studio,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional. “The MPK88 has weighted keyboard action plus the performance flexibility and control of the MPC pads and technology.”

The MPK88 joins the semi-weighted MPK49 and MPK25 controllers, which have 49 and 25 keys, respectively.

The MPK88 will be available from pro audio and musical instrument retailers in Q3, 2009."

"AKAI PRO MPD18 BRINGS MPC PAD CONTROL TO ANY SETUP

MIDI-Over-USB Pad Controller is Small and Portable for Versatility

Cumberland, R.I. (April 1, 2009) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces the MPD18 portable pad controller. The MPD18 will make its debut in Akai Professional's stand, B 21 in Hall 5.0 at Musikmesse, April 1 - 4, 2009. Held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Musikmesse is the world's largest fair for musical instruments, live music and the music business.

The MPD18 is the smallest-sized model in Akai Professional’s line of MPD pad controllers. DJs, programmers, producers and other musicians will find this MIDI-over-USB controller to be perfect for triggering samples, controlling software, and a variety of other applications. Its small footprint makes the MPD18 easy to integrate into any setup for stage performance, studio production or musical creation on the go.

The heart of the MPD18 is its bank of 16 velocity and pressure-sensitive genuine MPC pads, an Akai Professional exclusive. Users can access three different banks of sounds from the pads for a total of 48 sounds at once. The MPD18 also borrows the MPC series' assignable Q-Link controllers, enabling users to control nearly any parameters in their software in real time on an assignable Q-Link fader and an assignable Q-Link button.

Users will find the MPD18 to be convenient, sending MIDI information over its plug-and-play USB interface for use with Mac or PC without installing any drivers. The USB connection also powers the MPD18 so musicians can use the controller with no power supply. The MPD18 can control nearly any MIDI software, as well as MIDI hardware, such as synths, sound modules, samplers, sequencers, drum machines and more.

“The MPD18 gives you the iconic control feel of the MPC in a compact footprint that's easy to fit in any setup,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional.

The MPD18 will be available from musical instrument and professional audio retailers Q3, 2009."

Track: Shelter (feat. Xavier Radix) - Synthwave on Akai MPC, Motor Synth, Peak, EX5

video by

"Here's a #synthwave track done on the Akai MPC One, #motorsynth and Novation PEAK. Sidechaining! Gated drums! Tons of synths! Wicked 80s hair metal guitar solo and phatt riffs! Wub wub bass! Jan Hammer-inspired synth sequences! It's all in here. :-)

Guitar by Xavier Radix (see link below). Recorded, mixed and mastered on Zoom R24 #dawless. This is the MPC One in song mode controlling the EX5, PEAK and Motor Synth via MIDI. The song is made up from 14 patterns on the MPC one, which I merged into one long pattern and added the guitar and the vocal track to. Basically, all you need to do then is to press play in song mode and capture the audio output on a recording device (if you're using only MPC, you can also render the output to a WAV file internally). For the sake of this video, I adjusted filter settings and played some notes "live". :-)

MPC One is doing all the heavy lifting here, Motor Synth is doing the "filtered choir" sound in the second verse. EX5 is doing the "rain pad" in the 2nd verse. PEAK is doing the arpeggiated sequencer line. I don't know which effects Xavier had on his guitar, but it sounds pretty awesome.

Limited Edition Akai MPC 4000 via Guitar Center

"GUITAR CENTER INTRODUCES HI-TECH CUSTOM SHOP FEATURING UNIQUE ELECTRONIC MUSIC ITEMS ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR TODAY’S ARTISTS
Limited Edition Akai MPC 4000—Exclusively Designed By Master Customizer Bruce Forat—Is Premiere Offering

Westlake Village, CA: Guitar Center, the nation's leading musical instrument retailer, announced today the introduction of its exclusive Hi-Tech Custom Shop. A new model for the retail chain, the Hi-Tech Custom Shop gives musicians unique access to rare and specialized items designed to break the homogeny of mass-market gear. The planned inventory for the Shop includes limited custom editions, exclusive product and artist-endorsed items. These will be conceived and designed by industry experts to celebrate the legacy of genre-defying pieces as well as appeal to musicians with a desire to own a piece of history.
These exclusive collaborations will be on display at select locations but can be special ordered at any Guitar Center nationwide.

To launch the Hi-Tech Custom Shop, Guitar Center purchased the last eleven Akai MPC 4000s ever made and partnered with Bruce Forat, who has been at the forefront of music electronics for the last 25 years. Forat, who has personally customized drum machines and keyboards for top musicians including Prince, Dr. Dre, Jermaine Dupree and Madonna, customized the eleven to create one-of-a-kind MPC 4000s, of which only six remain for sale exclusively through the Guitar Center Hi-Tech Custom Shop. The Akai MPC series, used by influential musicians and producers such as Kanye West, Just Blaze, and Pete Rock, has been instrumental in the development of hip-hop music and is widely regarded as the industry’s gold standard. Additional information can be found at www.guitarcenter.com/forat.

“For the launch of Guitar Center’s Hi-Tech Custom Shop, we wanted to offer something incredibly special,” said Tony Baraz, assistant buyer for Guitar Center. “The Akai MPC is iconic in and of itself, but when customized by a monster talent like Bruce Forat it is a work of art.”

“To make each of the remaining Akai MPC 4000s truly unique we headed to the Caribbean for inspiration,” says Forat. “There’s something about the atmosphere and cool breeze that gets the creative juices going—I count these Hi-Tech Custom Shop MPCs among my best work.”

Akai Introduces MPC Jupiter Rising Synth Expansion by INHALT

Published on Mar 16, 2020 INHALTVIDEO

"I'm very pleased to announce the release of Jupiter Rising, the first INHALT Sample Library exclusively for the Akai MPC and Force range. This library is available directly through Akai Professional:

https://mpcsoftware.akaipro.com/#cbp=...

When I first got the MPC X I was taken aback by the sheer sound quality of the new audio engine. The filters, in particular, sounded warm and very analog like. After putting the machine through several productions, I quickly realized that the X is essentially a modern day Fairlight. It soon became my go to production center piece and my older MPCs (3000 and the ASQ10 sequencer) were quickly sold. Yes, it's that good. After some more time of working with the machine passed, I wanted to develop a comprehensive set of synthesizer oriented patches that could be quickly recalled for fast production access but with no compromise in sound quality. One of the most useful synths in a production context, to my ears and experience, is the Jupiter 8. While not a particularly showy synth, its tone and range of sounds makes it possible to slot into any production. As such, I thought this would be a great candidate for a deep sampling.

This library is the culmination of many months of work doing exactly that. Some patches are multi-sampled classic JP8 patches, and while those sound absolutely exceptional, the real stars are the short cycle samples. I employed the power of the MPC Engine to play back a different short-cycle sample per key press, per zone, randomly. This creates the feeling of playing the real JP8 as every key press is slightly different than the previous. When combined with the vast set of filters, an incredibly convincing analog-like sound is the end result. There are many patches of various combinations of samples included to cover every possible oscillator combination like on the real synth (i.e. 1 vco saw, 2 vco saw+saw, 2 vco saw+square ...) which leads to the most convincing sample based emulation of the classic synth. These raw patches serve as a starting point for your own sound design, however there are also many characteristic INHALT patches that are ready to go for your own music making.

In short, once the library was done, I was absolutely floored by how accurate and convincing this sample library really is at getting the mood, vibe, feel, and exact sound of the JP8. I think you will find the same. I had a really fantastic time working with all at Akai Professional on this and out of the many projects I've taken on, I'm probably the most pleased with how the end result came out on this one. All of the sounds (including drums) that you hear are 100 percent the Jupiter Rising Library recorded directly from the MPC X stereo output."

"Introducing Jupiter Rising, the latest expansion instrument offering from Akai Professional. Jupiter Rising re-creates the legendary sounds of one of the world's most iconic synthesizer. The highly sought after sonic palette is now available for your MPC X, MPC Live, MPC One and Force."

AKAI U400 RIFF-O-MATIC TEMPO PHRASE SAMPLER

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Here's something you don't see everyday. I don't believe I've ever seen or posted one here on MATRIXSYNTH before.

via the listing which appears to be a product description from Akai: "If you want to make beats, there's a whole world of options out there, from groove boxes to step sequencers to drum machines to computer-based programs. The choices can seem overwhelming: do you want a unit that's easy to learn, a unit that has the most features, or the unit that's the best for live performance? zZounds knows you just want to start making music, so let's keep things simple: you need an Akai MPC1000. The MPC is the one machine that has been there from the beginning of Hip-Hop and other sample-based music, and continues to be the go-to tool for today's hottest producers. The MPC, or Music Production Center, brilliantly combines real-time audio sampling, the ease of drum machine programming, and the sophistication of a multitrack studio in a one-stop groove shop. And it may just be the perfect introduction to MPC culture.

All MPCs are designed to get your basic ideas down fast, and to help you grow those ideas quickly. It's all about preserving your inspiration, and that's why the Akai MPC has remained standard-issue gear for Hip-Hop and Electronic Music producers for decades. To that legacy, the MPC1000 adds portability--with a footprint no bigger than most laptops, it still packs an impressive array of pro features. The compact size, real-time controls, and amazing sound make it the best gigging MPC ever, but it's still got the features to make it a powerful studio sampler / sequencer. Best of all, it's easy to learn, and still has enough features to make it the center of your productions for years to come.
