Tiptop Audio Buchla 200t Sound Demo

video upload by Station 252

"Buchla and Tiptop Audio 200t series workout.

Exploring Dual Oscillator Model 258t and Quad Function Generator Model 281t sound capabilities while recording my new EP. I was curious how the sound and response of those two modules will fit into my music and at the same time going into territories I wouldn't normally go to out of curiosity.

I've used a bunch of additional modules as my patches grew to hear how 200t modules fit with other eurorack modules and to keep everything in context, those where:

Rob Papen’s Punch-BD

RP Punch-BD Introduction Published on Sep 19, 2014 Rob Papen

"Based around the BD module of the multi award winning Punch virtual drum synth, Rob Papen delivers a creative module to help you to produce the fattest sounding bass drums for your music.

Stacking bass drums is a popular technique used by today's music producers and Punch-BD gives you the ability to stack up to 6 in total. Divide the 6 BD pads over the keyboard or use them 'stacked' in tuned mode to produce creative new BD sounds for all styles of contemporary music.

Punch-BD delivers synthesized drums in the finest audio quality or you can choose to load in your own samples for complete flexibility. Each pad has its own distortion module with several distortion types as well as its own 3 band graphic EQ. What's more, each individual pad also has its own preset section next to the overall 'BD kit'.

Like its big brother, Punch-BD features four FX units each with many 31 types of top quality FX plus further filters, envelopes, modulation routings and more for crafting your own unique sound.

From Electronic Dance and Hip Hop to Soundtrack projects, Punch-BD provides a solid speaker-busting sound for your productions."

Update: and the official press release:

"Get your kicks with Rob Papen’s Punch-BD bangin’ bass drum virtual instrument

ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and effects plug-in developer Rob Papen Soundware is proud to announce availability of Punch-BD, a powerful kick-ass bass drum virtual instrument for Mac (OS X 10.6 or higher) and PC (Windows Vista, 7, and 8) — based around the BD module of its award- winning speaker-busting, body-rattling Punch drum synthesis/sampler software instrument — to enable users to comfortably create the biggest-sounding bass drums around, as of September 19...

Stacking bass drums is a popular technique used by today’s power-seeking music producers to give their tracks the kind of kick that will literally move dancefloors — and even mountains... maybe! By introducing Punch-BD, Rob Papen provides its users with an attractive ability to stack up to six bass drums in total to comfortably create cutting-edge bass drums that will clearly cut through any musical mix. Moreover, its six sequentially-numbered BD pads can be divided across an external controller keyboard for performance purposes — in 6 Notes PLAY MODE (with the six ‘notes’ repeated over the whole keyboard range) — or ‘simply’ stacked — in Stack or Tuned Stack PLAY MODE (which follows the pitch of the keyboard) — to creatively construct brand new bad-ass bass drum sounds suited to any style of contemporary music production. When selecting Seq, the fourth PLAY MODE, the bass drums that are active play in sequential order — perfect for more experimental applications, while Tune Seq PLAY MODE is essentially the same as Seq but follows the keyboard pitch. Each BD pad can be played solo or muted and has its own command menu with some speedy Copy and Swap functions for friendlier workflow.

Predictably, perhaps, Punch-BD features the same high-quality algorithms attributed to the ever-popular Punch’s punchy sound. In Drum MODE users can choose from four synthesis Models, together with a familiar-sounding range of Classic electronic bass drum samples, and also, according to Rob Papen himself, “...a nice range of built-in acoustic and fantasy bass drum samples.” Elsewhere, each BD pad includes its own distortion module offering no fewer than 19 distortion types, together with a three-band parametric EQ. Each BD pad also features a preset section next to the overall ‘BD kit’ to speed up bass drum sound selection for contributing to the resultant stacked sound. Sample MODE allows adventurous users to combine two samples per pad in several ways with many samples already installed from Punch to make percussive life easier. Enterprising and adventurous users can even choose to load in their own samples for full flexibility with drag-and-drop support, though those pressed for time will appreciate added quick edit parameters for adjusting the most important parts of any given drum sound.

Like its knockout bigger brother, Punch-BD packs four FX processors with no fewer than 31 high-quality FX types with several routing options into its feature-heavy hit list, lifted higher still with further filters, envelopes, and modulation routings with which to delve deeper via various editing pages — EASY, PADS, MIXER, MOD/FX, and MANAGER — when crafting and storing signature sounds that are alive and kicking while packing a whole lot of low-end punch for not a whole lot of financial outlay.

Of course, Punch-BD provides perfect speaker-busting, body-rattling bass drum sounds to die for, though this is to be expected with Rob Papen at the sound designing helm: “There are plenty of great presets onboard Punch-BD. Enjoy!” We will, indeed, Rob!

From EDM and hip-hop to soundtrack projects, Punch-BD is a production powerhouse par excellence. As a 64- or 32-bit (AAX-, AU-, and VST-compatible) plug-in, add it to your DAW and you, too, could soon be moving musical mountains! Simply stack those bass drums high and give your tracks the driving kick to take them wherever it is that they need to go.

Punch-BD can be purchased as a boxed version from authorised Rob Papen dealers worldwide for €49.00 EUR (including VAT/tax)/$59.00 USD or purchased and downloaded directly from Rob Papen here: http://www.robpapen.com/Punch-bd-buy.html (Note: Punch-BD is available for free to EDM Bundle, eXplorer-III, Punch, and Urban Bundle owners... simply login via the Rob Papen homepage, go to My Products, and download the latest installer and installer guide.)"

Frequency Central Seismograf BD and SD

Frequency Central

"A short Seismograf BD and SD jam, just randomly auditioning some of the drum types, and tuning/distort effects. No real plan!"

"Seismograf is a PIC based drum module featuring coding by Jetroid. There is currently a choice of two PICs which may be used with Seismograf, ‘BD‘ and ‘SD‘. As you might expect, BD contains a range of 8 bass drums, while SD contains a range 8 of snare drums. The drum sounds are 10 bit encodings of some of our favourite electronic kits from yesteryear (see chart below). It is not possible for the user to load their own sounds onto Seismograf PICs, but there is a chance that we may release alternative drum sets as the years roll (!) by.

Select

This knob is used to select one of the 8 sounds to be triggered. It has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.

Tune

This knob may be used to detune the drum sound either upwards or downwards. It has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.

Distort

This knob may be used to introduce either one of two different types of distortion to your chosen drum sound. When set to the mid position (12 o’clock) no distortion is present. Turning the knob anti-clockwise will cause the sound to be progressively clipped harder, while turning the knob clockwise will cause the sound to be progressively more bitcrushed. This knob has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.

Secret Sauce

Try running the sawtooth output of an audio rate VCO into Seismograf’s trigger input, then wiggle the Tune knob manually, or apply a control voltage to the Tune input. Wow! What’s happening here then? When I first demo’ed this feature to Jetroid he buffered for a few minutes before performing a cold shutdown, unable to process what was happening to his code. Seismograf is acting kinda like a fliter, right? Well maybe! Probably more akin to oscillator sync really. As the incoming trigger is so fast, Seismograf only gets to play the initial part of it’s waveform, less on high notes, more on low notes. Additionally, there is naturally higher frequency content the higher the note and so forth. Whatever’s going on, we’re sure that you’ll agree that it sounds freaking awesome. More than just a drum module, right?"

Update: and the press release:

"ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and effect plug-in developer Rob Papen Inspiration Soundware is proud to announce availability of eXplorer 5 — furthering the creative scope of its inspirational plug-in bundle by adding Go2, MasterMagic, and RAW-Kick to the all-encompassing musical mix — as of October 16…

Now numbering no fewer than 20 highly-versatile virtual instruments and extraordinary effects, eXplorer 5 pushes Rob Papen’s plug-in bundle beyond belief by including three new additions that more than live up to its Inspiration Soundware slogan.

MasterMagic is an aptly-named effect plug-in with which to improve mixes or final masters alike. Anyone placing MasterMagic at the very end of their virtual master effects chain can easily experience how much it can help improve their tracks. The MONO/STEREO SPLIT FILTER section will make the low end much tighter while the AIR function — even applied at a liberal level — is sheer magic. Make no mistake: there’s no mystery about this magical musical tool!

The name maybe gives the game away, as RAW-Kick represents Rob Papen’s cutting-edge kick drum-creation tool! The perfect weapon of choice for those hard-sounding electronic dance music styles — such as Hardcore, Hardstyle (mixing influences from Techno and Hardcore), and Industrial — and also EDM and House. Here RAW-Kick creatively enables the use of three layers, each of which can be either modelled or sample-based at source. Rob Papen being Rob Papen, RAW-Kick has some refreshingly resourceful features with which to create unique-sounding kicks up its virtual sleeve! Still better, RAW-Kick comes complete with a varied selection of original presets from a long list of respected DnB, Hardcore, and Hardstyle producers, including Caine, DJ Mad Dog, DJ Promo, Orphidian, Sinister Souls, Tha Playah, The Outside Agency, and Wavolizer, to name but a notable few.

Finally, Go2 is an appropriately-named, go-to synthesizer, set apart from its award-winning software siblings by virtue of all its controls and features always being in plain sight and always available to access onscreen, so simplifying usage for the average user. Ultimately, though, this is far from being a simple-sounding virtual instrument. Its Morph feature and XY section serve to make for a powerful software synthesizer, one with which users — average or otherwise — can create unique sounds speedily and easily! End game? Go2 surely shows that there is power to be had in the ‘less is more' maxim... and all without sacrificing audio quality!

Quality, of course, shines brightly through all 20 of eXplorer 5’s highly-versatile virtual instruments and extraordinary effects. Established Rob Papen classics such as Blade (quite literally a cutting-edge software synthesizer), BLUE-II (self-styled ‘Crossfusion Synthesis’), Predator2 (software synthesizer to die for), Punch (speaker-busting, body-rattling virtual drum synth), Punch-BD (Punch- based bass drum module), RAW (software synthesizer specialising in ‘distorted’ sounds specifically suited to EDM and beyond), RG (unique electric and acoustic guitar groove virtual instrument), and SubBoomBass 2 (groove bass software synthesizer) — not forgetting an array of effects, including RP-AMOD (uses modulators to alter audio in different ways), RP-Delay (six delay lines, eight filters, four LFOs, a reverser, and more), RP-Distort (designed to destroy, distort, or more subtly alter any audio), RP-EQ (silky smooth- sounding channel and mastering EQ), and RP-VERB 2 (advanced, transparent, and musical-sounding algorithmic reverb) — sit comfortably and creatively alongside those three additions to collectively push Rob Papen’s prized plug-in bundle beyond belief.

But hearing is believing; best put this way, eXplorer 5 is the all-encompassing best that you can get from Rob Papen — all the more so since it also includes PRISMA, easily enabling users to layer multiple Rob Papen virtual instruments into a creatively stacked sound like no other!

eXplorer 5 can be purchased in a boxed edition — featuring 20 AAX (32-/64-bit), AU (32-/64-bit), VST (32-/64-bit) compatible audio software plug-ins for Mac OS X (10.6 or higher) and Windows (Vista, 7, 8, and 10) — from authorised Rob Papen dealers worldwide or as a download directly from Rob Papen for €499.00 EUR/$499.00 USD from here: http://www.robpapen.com/eXplorer5-buy.html

Several options to upgrade to eXplorer 5 are also available, attractively priced as follows: €299.00 EUR/$299.00 USD (available to owners of one purchased Rob Papen product); €199.00 EUR/$199.00 USD (available to owners of two purchased Rob Papen products); €149.00 EUR/ $149.00 USD (available to owners of three purchased Rob Papen products); €99.00 EUR/$99.00 USD (available to owners of eXplorer4); €49.00 EUR/$49.00 USD (available to owners of eXplorer4 + Go2); and €149.00 EUR/$149.00 USD (available to owners of eXplorer III)."

-Separate 1/4" Audio Outputs for BD/SD/HH
-2x Switch Mods allows for SD/HH noise decay options (Tight/Standard/Snappy) (Closed/Standard/Loose)
-2x Knob Mods allows for 808 Style BD Decay and extra SD Ring/Tone Decay.

Tiptop Audio BD909 Demo Video and Review by Various Vicarious

"just got the tiptop audio BD-909 a few hours ago. thought i'd check out how it sounds.

here's a link to tiptop's site

http://tiptopaudio.com/

here's a higher quality soundcloud link to the audio in the youtube clip (more oomph)

nothing fancy w/this patch here. simple pattern from Intellijel uStep and a bit of modulation from a Wiard/Malekko envelator and i hit the accent now and then w/a different gate from a clock divider. in this case the doepfer A-160

there is no EQ or compression. it goes from the module's output to a jackie 1640 to a lynx aurora to logic. nothing was done in the box either. what you hear is from the module.

does it sound like a 909 BD? i don't know.. i don't really care.. i think it sounds good.. and if you are into 909 i'd bet it's pretty close. i've used 909s before and it's good enough to do that kind of thing (to my ears) and for all i know it's dead on.. but i haven't used a 909 in a while and as i said. i don't care.

the parameter ranges are pretty good. enough to get good variation and not get all squirrely or turn into a bass synth. it responds well to modulation and the overload is nice.

Re-tuning TipTop Audio BD808 & Testing Out the Z-DSP Clocked Delays Card

Re-tuning TipTop Audio BD808 from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"Attention: to hear what is going on use proper full range monitoring, computer speakers won't work.

The mighty BD808! No matter how good or how shitty the sound system is, that little guy will always sound great, so great in fact that I rarely use any other bass drums and I was searching quite a lot. The only other bass drum that I use is BD909 but, it will sound only as good as the PA. On Function 1 it will blow your mind, on a shitty PA you will want your BD808 in the rack. The thing with BD808 is that just like the original you can't change its pitch / tuning. The solution is to use a high pass filter after the bass drum.

Start with the filter fully open with no resonance - that is your normal clean BD 808. Shorten the decay to a shortest possible setting, increase the resonance to slightly before self-oscillation now start closing the filter. now you have an alternative filter BD with variable pitch (the cut off is the tuning and the resonance is the decay). By lengthening the 808 decay and varying the filter settings it is possible to get new bass drums easy and fast and they still sound very much like the 808 bass drums. I use Toppobrillo Multifilter as it is very clean, doesn't change the original 808 sound, doesn't distort the accented BD808, has a very manageable and good sounding resonance."

CR78 Drum Machine Sample Pack Demo by DDA

video upload by DinDrum Audio

"Demo for the DinDrum Audio Sample Pack 'CR78 - Drum Loops & Hits'
Demo made with Loops and Kits from this Pack.
Available at https://dindrum.com

Most people know the CR-78 (Released in 1978) as the first mass production user-programmable drum machine,
(first programable Drum Machine was actually the EKO ComputeRhythm with only 15-25 made*)
but many do not realise that the CR78 was the first drum machine to offer external synchronisation options, both external clock in and trigger clock out. This made it a solid time keeper, allowing tight integration with other electronic instruments in the electronic music studio.
