Features Overview: Boredbrain INTRFX Eurorack FX Interface

Published on Jun 28, 2019 Boredbrain Music

"This video demonstrates how to use the Boredbrain INTRFX, which facilitates effects processing between eurorack, guitar pedals and electronic instruments.

The INTRFX facilitates effects processing between eurorack, guitar pedals and electronic instruments.

3 channels of send & return level conversion
Per-channel selection of either eurorack thru pedals or line-instrument thru eurorack
FX blend control with CV input
Capable of FX feedback and linear VCA functionality
Small tabletop form-factor

Want to connect outboard gear to your eurorack synthesizer without taking up valuable HP in your case? The INTRFX allows eurorack-level signals to be processed with pedals and/or outboard effects, and also allows line-level instruments to be processed with eurorack modules. Each of its three channels has an Interchange Switch to swap this mode, as well as an FX Blend parameter which can be controlled via CV. Because of its compact physical design, the INTRFX can be placed almost anywhere and connected to eurorack systems with 3.5mm patch cables rather than bulkier 1/4-in cables.

Feedback effects can be achieved by switching into the "wrong" mode, sending the FX return back into the FX send, while still allowing for dry signal blend and modulation. Channels can also be patched into one another and toggled between modes for experimental routing. Conveniently, each channel can operate as a reversed linear VCA for both audio and DC signals when no effects are used.

Whether you'd like to patch eurorack through some classic pedals or run a drum machine through your gnarliest modules, INTRFX makes these connections easy and flexible.

Elektron Model:Samples patched thru Boredbrain Transmutron & Eurorack

Published on Feb 28, 2019 Boredbrain Music

"We snagged the new Elektron Model:Samples and decided to beef it up using the Boredbrain Transmutron's FX loops patched out through a slew of eurorack processing. A simple pattern was programmed and, alongside many CV modulations, some real-time tweaking created a fun dynamic jam.

Cool things happening in this patch:

- The Transmutron's two Euro FX returns are used to receive mixed stereo cacophony of parallel effects (and synth line) to convert back to line-level for recording, after first passing through the Boss Roland RE-20 Space Echo.

- A Boredbrain SPLIX is used to mix two different control voltage signals into the Transmutron CV for modulation of the crossover frequency splitpoint

- The low frequencies are processed in parallel with the Recovery Effects Motormatic and the 2HP Comb Filter, the latter has its resonance modulated by one channel of the Make Noise Maths, triggered every 7 gates of the synth line, counted by the Adventure Audio Count module.

- Model:Samples Track 6 is sequencing the Mother-32 to create the synth line, which is octave doubled by the Noise Reap Bermuda oscillator, then run through the Recovery Effects Cutting Room Floor"

Transmutron filtering Novation Circuit & Behringer Neutron with flanger & overdrive

Published on Jan 30, 2019 Boredbrain Music

"In this experiment, the Novation Circuit and Behringer Neutron are mixed together with Boredbrain Splix, which is fed into the Transmutron. The SPLITPOINT frequency control is being modulated manually and by the random S&H from Neutron. FX loop 1 of Transmutron is processed by the Moog Cluster Flux while FX loop 2 runs through the Neutron's own overdrive. The Transmutron is switched back and forth between Fission Mode (crossover) and Fallout Mode (wide resonant notch filter).

Boredbrain Transmutron Dual FX Loop Crossover Filter Pedal

Published on Jan 10, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"Boredbrain Music's Transmutron Pedal works as a filter and crossfader with two effects sends which can both be used with eurorack modules or line level effects like pedals. There are three modes on the Transmutron for different mixing types, fission mode splits the signal to two bands like a crossover filter, fusion where it works like a crossfader and fallout where there is a resonant notch filtering effect. The filters have adjustable slope with 12, 24 and 48db/octave options.

The sound source in this video is an Elektron Digitone FM synthesizer and sequencer. In the first part of the video the Transmutron is in Fission mode and the low frequencies are going to the SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver and the high frequencies to the Earthquaker Acapulco Gold V2 Distortion. In the second part of the video the Transmutron is in Fallout mode and the sound is split between the Alright Devices Chronoblob V2 delay and and T-Wrex bitcrusher and decimator."

Transmutron blending destruction upon Moog Mother-32 synthesizer

Published on Dec 29, 2018 Boredbrain Music

"Mother-32 gets destroyed here by parallel bit-crushing distortions, first split and filtered by the Transmutron's own wide-resonant notch filter. The filter is controlled by a mix of S&H CV from the Bitrazer and the Mother-32's own LFO, from slow sweeps up to near audio rate, creating an FM effect with the resonant peaks.

Arturia DrumBrute Impact thru Boredbrain Transmutron wide resonant notch filters

Published on Oct 16, 2018 Boredbrain Music

"Without any other pedals in its two FX loops, the Transmutron can still provide some incredibly fun filtering (4 filters total), which can also be automated with control voltages for tempo-based or other interesting modulations."

Boredbrains in Studio: Patching Eurorack with Little Black Rain Clouds

Published on Mar 2, 2018 Boredbrain Music

"We got together with Damion Champe (aka. Little Black Rain Clouds) to record a musical improvisation with his eurorack modular system, while introducing him to our new custom-designed 3.5mm patch cables. He also showed us his awesome Clone Garden Drum, incorporating it into the jam."

Curious if the Clone Garden is by Folktek or a clone of Folktek's work.

Update: I checked with Folktek and they let me know, the Clone Garden is not theirs.

Korg Volca FM Synth Demo Jam

Published on Nov 22, 2017 Boredbrain Music

"Here's a techno jam from Boredbrain featuring the Korg Volca FM digital synthesizer and Roland TR-606 vintage analog drum machine. Effects used are Moog Minifooger MF-Delay and Korg Monotron Delay. The Volca is tempo synced to the 606 via the tom trigger output.

The jam starts with a chain of sequences using a bell-type tone getting slightly modulated with the Velocity slider and LFO for vibrato. The middle section is a chain of sequences using a classic FM bass sound and Arpeggiator. The Velocity slider and Carrier Decay are getting tweaked heavily creating a wide range of tones.

Recorded live outside on location on a cold night overlooking downtown Richmond VA from Church Hill."
