ØCHD-OBER-FEST (live event) with DivKid, Instruo & Signal Sounds // ochd expander launch party

video upload by DivKid

https://www.signalsounds.com/

"In case you missed the live stream at the time, made it but would like to watch again, or were even at the in person event itself and wish to relive the beer, pretzel and modulation good times... here's a fresh 4k HD edited version of the OCHD-OBER-FEST event that myself (DivKid), Instruo and Signal Sounds had back in October 2023 to launch the new ochd expander.

I've also just put up a new video with the case and patch that I set up for this event. This was filmed more long form and in detail when I got back home. It's a polyphonic, generative ambient piece that makes use of lots of ochd and it's expander. Check it out here // [below]

The patch that launched the OCHD EXPANDER // Polyphonic Generative Ambient Eurorack Modular

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have a detailed run down of the patch that launched the expander. I brought this case and exact patch back from my journey up to Glasgow for the OCHD-OBER-FEST live event with Instruo in Signal Sounds. We launched the ochd expander at that event and this patch was my demo for that event. Note - you can check out the live event re uploaded and editing in 4k below.

This is patch is a 4 voice, polyphonic generative ambient piece that uses 4 wavetable oscillators into 4 VCAs for heavily modulated chordal sound sources. That is then tone, drive and level modulated before feeding two FX with a novel patch routing. It's highly dynamic, from near silent quiet sections to loud sections. All that dynamism comes from ochd and the ochd expander."

DivKid Showcase | Mutes | Ochd | Rnd Step | Ochd Expander | Ochd + Ochd + Expander

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"One of the first voices I heard when I started modular in 2018 was Ben DivKid Wilson's and it's been my goto channel for learning a new module ever since. The DivKid modules are simple, affordable and small, but offer something that wasn't there before they were released. I used them in almost all my patches, often off-screen or underexposed. In my first Ochd video (January 2020) it doesn't even show. With the release of the Ochd expander I realized how important these modules are for my case. This DivKid Show is a contribution to the contributions Ben already made to the modular community. For those who are new to modular it's cool to have all modules in one video (except Stereo Strip, I don't have it). The shots from his videos are used without kind permission but I am sure it's OK. As always I am not affiliated with anyone or anything.

The opening music is an adapted remix of one of Ben's youtube music library tracks (empty moons of Jupiter), free for everyone to use on videos."

MEET THE NEW OCHD EXPANDER. A 24 OUTPUT MODULATION PAIRING IN ONLY 8HP, NUTS!

video upload by DivKid

"The new ochd expander adds 16 outputs to ochd with 4 sections of different functions. We have unipolar outputs from full wave rectifiers, analogue diode logic giving 2 pairs of MAX/MIN outs, a cascading mixing trigger section for stochastic timings and a 4-bit DAC ladder section offering 4 flavours of slow noise stepped random patterns. It really is a mammoth addition of functions not just to ochd but to any Eurorack system.

The ochd expander was released as part of ØCHD-OBER-FEST an in-person event that was also live streamed. If you’d like to watch the event check that out here"

ØCHD-OBER-FEST (live event) with DivKid, Instruo & Signal Sounds // celebrate all things ochd!

video upload by DivKid

See the dealers on the right for availability.

"Launched in 2019 and designed in collaboration with Ben "DivKid" Wilson, the Instruō øchd has set a standard for compact and versatile modulation sources which can now be seen across thousands of eurorack systems.

The øchd's 8 analogue outputs can now be be tripled with a farther 16 unique control voltage sources by pairing it with the øchd expander ([ø] 4^2).

All outputs are derived from combinations of the 8 analogue triangle LFO cores to produce an extravagant range of variable voltages, triggers and 4x 4-Bit DAC based stepped random voltage sources which are best described as flavours of "slow noise".

Enhance your existing modulation capabilities immediately with this 4HP cluster of control voltage capabilities.

Note: øchd required, all cables included with expander"

PlayFader PlayMates

video uploads by Play All Day

You might remember Play All Day from previous posts here.

Playlist:

1. PlayFader PlayMates
PlayFader meets @erfindungsbuero ERM Polygogo.

Headphones recommended.

Channel A:
CV - V/oct of Polygogo and multed into Natural Gate’s Control input to open up the decay time. Set to User Scale. Gate - Right-hand side Hit input on Natural Gate.

Channel B:
CV - Various modulation inputs on Polygogo. Set to 2v unquantised.
Gate - Left-hand side Hit input on Natural Gate.

Clock input, set to CV.- from @makenoisemusic Function EOC output.

PolyGogo X and Y outputs are split into separate sides of the Natural Gate so they can be independently gated. It’s all running through the @busycircuits MFX for some stereo glue and then onto the delicious Sealegs by @intellijel for delay vibes.

PlayGuide:
We start by setting each channel’s time division to different settings. Then we record a 16 step loop of both channels simultaneously, creating nice polyrhythms. Then we play around with the record arm of CV and Gate, essentially decoupling them so we can record just CV over the gate patterns in the Loop buffer. Then we overdub some different gate patterns by setting the channels to different divisions. We even play with 24ppn which is crazy fast but gives a nice effect. We overdub that again showing how you can endlessly play over your recordings. And we use Latch a lot, because we love Latch… a lot! Latch allows the CV output to be played live with the faders, over the top of the buffer contents. A quick double-tap of Latch releases the CV from the live fader position, and back to whatever’s in the Loop buffer.

Available for Pre-order now ❤️

In our next PlayMates video, PlayFader meets @noiseeng BIA & @michigan_synth_works SY0.5 - things get seriously wild..."

2. PF Clocked redux
PlayFader has dark side, don’t be fooled by all pretty colours 🙃

Our 2nd PlayMate video shows the less conventional and, frankly, crazy side of PlayFader. Hard to explain in detail what happened here but the main idea was to explore playing with the speed of the clock input. Recording patterns at slow clock rates and speeding up really fast.
Huge thanks to Paul’s Alex Bow for the idea!

Channel A is playing with BIA by Noise Engineering and Channel B is having fun with Michigan Synthworks SY0.5 and both are running into the mighty M T2D dual triode distortion by Sonocurrent.

Channel A:
CV - to the pitch and various modulation inputs on BIA via the fabulous Ochd by DivKid and Instruo.
Set to 5v un-quantised range.
Gate - BIA trigger input

Channel B:
CV - pitch input on the SY0.5
Set to 5v un-quantised range.
Gate - to trigger input of SY0.5

Hard to explain, but things go nuts. Due to the fact the looper and clock divisions are always tight, cool patterns emerge and when you speed the clock up you get interested low bit res waveforms and glitchy mayhem.

3. PlayFader PlayMates Pt2
Another little snippet of these PlayMates having fun. Slowing the clock coming into PlayFader allows you to record more into the 16 step buffer when it’s set to faster decisions. We then speed up the clock and all kinds of interesting happen.

In case you didn’t already know, we’re open for pre-orders. Link in bio. And stay tuned for more episodes of PlayMates coming soon. If you have any suggestions of friends you’d like OlayFader to meet, let us know in the comments.

And if you can’t quite figure out what PlayFader is doing, check out the PlayData manuals on our website.

Love and patches,
Play All Day ❤️

Morphagene // Mega Modularis' First Reel

video upload by Mega Modularis

"OK! Here we go, this is my first try with the Morphagene, I was very excited to finally receive this module, which has been on my wish list for quite a while, so look out for plenty of Morphagene exploration coming soon. I started with a nice loop from Rangoon on the Lubadh and proceeded to explore and figure out how the Morphagene works, and you can come along with me for the journey! This was my first Reel, although I think after filming this I realised I’d made a new reel and still had an empty first reel, but hey, I’m still learning and exploring how this module works! My goal was to create some nice ambient soundscapes from a relatively simple melodic loop, and I think I accomplished that, what do you think? Of course the Morphagene was helped along my Mimeophon and Beads, some of my favourite ambient making modules! Anyway, sit back & enjoy! MM.

Patch Notes:

Audio: Loop from Big T Music Rangoon on the @instruo Lubadh
Main Voice: @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Morphagene
Audio Processing & FX: Mutable Instruments Beads & Make Noise Mimeophon
Modulation: ALM Pam’s New Workout & @DivKid Ochd"

Waves // Beads as a wavetable synth through the Instruo Lubadh

video upload by Mega Modularis

"For this week’s video I tried using the Mutable Instruments Beads as the only sound source, with nothing plugged in Beads becomes a wavetable synth, which I then modulated and fed into the @instruo Lubadh, before manipulating those recordings and feeding them back into Beads and Monsoon by Big T Music, as well as my trusty @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Mimeophon delay. This resulted in a pretty interesting ambient patch I think, with some nice use of the time control on the Lubadh, and that lovely reverb-rich granulation of Beads and Monsoon, what do you think? Anyway sit back and enjoy! MM.

Patch Notes:

Voice: Mutable Beads, Instruo Lubadh
Modulation: ALM Pam’s, @DivKid Ochd
Audio FX & Processing: Instruo Lubadh, Mutable Beads & the Big T Music Monsoon"

Sequoia - Modular Synthesizer performance in Sequoia National Park

video by Johno Wells

"This ambient / experimental eurorack modular synth improvisation first aired on ModulateTV (Wales, U.K.) 1st anniversary show on April 18.
This track is featured on [RE]MOTION, a collection of remote eurorack modular performances shot in early 2021. It can be found here:
https://johnowells.bandcamp.com/album...
_____________________________
Approach:
Working with no master sequencer is a blast. I am able to listen to where the sound takes me, and not worry about or over analyze where it goes. This open approach might sound scary to those who rely on pre-composed sequences and patterns, but I've found it's a lot easier for me to create like this. When I was forcing myself to create sequences in a master sequencer it just wasn't as fun, and definitely wasn't as pure and genuine of an expression (for me). We all work so differently in modular, and in my practice, this is currently (key word here) the way that's working. Stay tuned to see the journey change...I'm open to where it takes me. Thanks for watching!
_____________________________
Happy accident:
Near the end of the performance, I accidentally pulled the jack out of the input of Arbhar which I was live-sampling into and it made this glorious reverb...reminding me of the live-mic that is on the Arbhar panel. Hm....maybe I should whistle into it? Or...sing into it? See above: "listen to where the sound takes me".

5 Ambient Patchlets with the Basimilus Iteritas Alter

Published on Jun 3, 2020 Omri Cohen

"If you like what I do and want to support my work, consider joining me on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

I also created a document full of patching techniques and ideas that I will continue updating - https://www.patreon.com/posts/documen...

Here are some patch notes:
------------------------------------------------
Patch 1 - 00:00
--------
- I'm triggering the Basimilus with the pulse output of the 1U Noise Tools module, and I'm increasing the rate until I get a constant tone.
- I'm sending THIS to Microcell in Granular mode with lots of reverb.
- In VCV Rack I have the Black Octasource from Erica Synths modulating the harmonics, decay time, and morph of the Basimilus.

Patch 2 - 02:07
--------
- I'm sequencing the Basimilus from VCV Rack with a random sequence.
- I'm multing the Basimilus once into the Mimeophon, and once into Microcell in the Oliverb mode.
- The Rate of the Mimeophon is being modulated twice, once with S&H, and once through the micro input with an LFO.
- I've also recorded the Basimilus into the Morphagene a bit, and I'm playing the sample an octave lower and in revers.

Patch 3 - 03:12
--------
- I'm sequencing the Basimilus with Marbles in VCV Rack.
- It's then going into Magneto in shift mode so it creates those additional notes.
- It then goes into the Microcell for some extra reverb, and from there to Freak with a distortion model.
- I'm also modulating the morph control of the Basimilus with S&H, as well as the reverse function on Magneto.

Patch 4 - 05:04
--------
- I'm sending an arpeggio from VCV Rack to sequence the Basimilus, and it's going through LedRover.
- The signal is being multed into 3 different destinations: Once into the Microcell for some reverb, once into Freak with a HP filter and from there to the Mimeophpon, and once into Arbhar, which continuously records the signal and processes it.

Patch 5 - 07:11
-------
- I'm using a burst generator in VCV Rack to sequence the Basimilus.
- I recorded it onto Arbhar, and I have its built-in reverb on wet to it creates this nice pad.
- I also recorded a short sequence onto Magneto, and I'm playing it one octave lower. I'm also triggering its revers function randomly from VCV Rack.
- I'm also modulating the harmonic, fold, and morph functions of the Basimilus with an LFO in VCV Rack, built after Ochd from DivKid and Instruo.
- The Basimilus is then going through the Mimeophon for delay and Microcell for extra reverb.

1. Øchd: Overview and Demo
Welcome to the Patchwerks video series! In this inaugural video of our series, our resident expert Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) demos the amazingly simple and musically powerful features from the new DivKid module øchd. Remember to like and subscribe, because we'll have more videos of great gear coming your way soon.

From DivKid:
This collaboration between DivKid and Instruo is a 4HP all analogue triangle LFO generator with 8 outputs. Each of the 8 outputs are free running and are musically tuned intervals, as opposed to synced or variable phase outputs from each other. A range of fast to slow outputs can be set to make any patch drift organically and beautifully, letting your modulation freely drift various parameters. There's a global rate control to go up into either lower audio rates on the fastest outputs, or glacially slow. A CV input with attenuverter allows for waveshaping via feedback patching, everything from log, lin or expo curves through to odd staircases waves and more. A negative voltage can reliably halt the circuit which gives 8 track and holds over the outputs.

2. Earthquaker Devices Afterneath in stereo!?
In this video we patch the Earthquaker Devices Reverb: Afterneath into the Make Noise Rosie to take advantage of the mono to stereo send. Doing this allows us to patch a second audio output from the reflect send into the right input of the stereo return giving us a stereo reverb effect.

From Earthquaker:
The Afterneath Eurorack Module brings the Otherworldly sounds from the effects pedal world right into your modular synthesizer with an expanded feature set. The Afterneath module features one main audio input, one main audio output, an audio send and return for the Reflect feedback path, and nine controls. Four of the parameters are controllable via CV, and each has been equipped with a dedicated attenuverter to process the incoming CV. The Afterneath module has a completely analog dry signal path and a totally digital wet signal path.

DivKid Ochd w/ Manis Iteritas | LFO Chaos

Published on Dec 29, 2019 Nostalgic Ruckus

"Been waiting for something like this for the skiff. Luv my clock dividers and multipliers and this kinda does it with LFOs. Cranking that rate knob is a beautiful thing. The Manis with all the patch cables is being modulated by Ochd only. The other Manis output is plugged into the E440 filter to tame some unwanted harmonics but also add some resonance when Ochd gapes the envelope. Attenuating Ochd's outputs with Bored Brain Splix. The CV input on this thing is crazy cool when self patching it just didn’t do it on this patch."

Announcement NEW DIVKID EURORACK MODULE // Meet ochd made with Instruo

Published on Dec 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Hello hello, here's my second eurorack module øchd or ochd. It's pronounced "oct" as in octave or octuplet and as if by magic there's eight outputs on this module, an octuplet of analogue LFOs if you will. I often find I need more modulation, simple sources that will keep things moving and stop things getting repetitive. That’s why ochd was brought to life, to keep patches organically drifting and moving… and as it’s modular, we wanted an intuitive easy to use module with plenty of patchable tricks up it’s sleeves too!

ochd is a 4HP Eurorack module with eight analogue triangle LFOs. The outputs go from fast on the top output to slow on the bottom output. The default ranges are deliberate NOT synced. These are free running LFOs that were tuned by ear to be musical useful for a range of fast to slow modulations in a patch. Organic animation, drifting and musical phasing is the intention of the module. The rate control controls the rate of all LFOs globally and takes this into lower audio rates right down to 25 minute cycles on the lowest output. This can be extended even slower with CV, with the CV input and attenuverter on board and we can also track and hold the outputs with a negative CV, interrupting and holding modulation values with external gates of CVs. Another trick to take this from simple triangle shapes is to patch a spare output into the CV input and wave shape with feedback. Exponential curves, odd squares, stepped waveforms and more are available with some adjustment of the attenuverter and using different outputs to voltage control itself.

While patching a prototype at DivKid HQ Richard Devine said this was "the most organic little modulator ever" - lovely stuff!"
