Cherry Audio Introduces PS-3300 Virtual Analog Recreation of the KORG PS-3300 Synthesizer

video upload by Cherry Audio

"PS-3300 is an exactingly faithful virtual analog emulation of the colossal and ultra-rare semi-modular analog polyphonic synthesizer released by KORG in 1977. Cherry Audio has pulled out all the stops to accurately recreate and update this mythical monster synth, from its massive stacked sonic character and signature multiple‑resonator sweeps to the considerable patching capabilities that distinguished the PS-3300 from all other polysynths at the time."

Introduction to Cherry Audio's PS-3300 - Hosted by Tim Shoebridge

video upload by Cherry Audio

"To get users up and running with PS-3300, Cherry Audio and Tim Shoebridge of Sound Mangling have again teamed up to create an introductory tutorial video walking users through the history and extensive features of this massive virtual synthesizer instrument.

Cherry Audio PS-3300 - a massive demo and tutorial for a massive synth

video upload by CatSynth TV

"Today we present the new PS-3300 from our friends at Cherry Audio, in partnership with the good people at the Electronic Music Education and Preservation Project (EMEAPP). The original Korg PS-3300 is a massive polyphonic semi-modular analog synthesizer with three independent polyphonic synth voices, each of which has a multi-waveform oscillator, low-pass resonant filter, a unique three-band resonator, independent tuning of each note of the scale and more. Cherry Audio's version recreates the look and sound of the original, and adds some additional modern features.

Such a beast of an instrument deserves a beast of a video, almost an hour in length, packed with details about the history of the instrument, how each part of the synth voice works, how to use all three together, the global and effects sections, and factory presets."

**NEW** Cherry Audio PS3300 // 3 polyphonic synths in a semi modular box

video upload by Starsky Carr

"This is one CRAZY synth!! 3 full polyphonic synths in one big box. Here's my review, demo and walkthrough of the Cherry Audio PS3300. It's a replica of the Korg of the same name from 1977. This is a great example of a unique and characterful synth from the days when they were figuring out how best to create and control the tones.

Each voice has a single oscillator, lowpass filter, ADSR envelope and 2 LFOs. The resonators are a great addition - 3 resonant BP filters per voice - gives a lush or crazy phasing effect.

Follow all this with Cherry Audios FX, and the scalable interface, MIDI control etc etc and you end up with something well worth picking up. Have a cheese sandwich for you dinner and pick this up instead of a pizza!"

Korg PS-3300 + Antonus 2600 Original Size live jam demo improvisation "Pompidou in Tokyo"

video upload by wutierson

"Korg PS-3300 + Antonus 2600 Original Size live jam demo improvisation 'Pompidou in Tokyo' by Toni Gutierrez

Here is the third video of a series with the wonderfully enormous (in all aspects) Korg PS-3300 playing with Antonus instruments. This Korg PS-3300 was in Antonus studio and workshop during some months for study, works and of course for enjoy it playing.

This third video is an improvisation using Korg PS-3300 with the Antonus 2600 Original Size model. Connected both instruments with so many patching points for make this abstract and experimental track, looking also for the west coast essence that can be found in the 2600 design. The 2600 is a wonderful design were we can find good examples of the east and west coast schools.

Is very interesting to play with the polyphonic concept of the PS-3300 and at the same time work with structural part and auto generative patterns. I will to continue to make more experiments in that way, is a very unique instrument!

Also the wonderful design of the 2600 allows to make a very fast performance, so faster than the 3300 due to the slider design and how are placed... offering the the feeling of hand moulding sense, like sculpturing with hand, that allows to the performer to feel that is one more element of the system interacting with all parts.

The demo is recorded in one take, no multitrack was used in this recording. Only Korg PS-3300 + Antonus Step Brother + Korg SDD1200 dual delay unit.

Unlike the other two previous tracks this is very abstract. For people that doesn't like this kind of music I recommend to check the other PS-3300 videos with more melodic content.

Thanks to Ernesto Romeo from La Siesta del Fauno studio laboratory in Buenos Aires for bring us for a time this awesome piece of electronic music history."

Korg PS-3300 + Antonus Step Brother live jam demo improvisation "Pendulum Bridge"

video upload by wutierson

"Here is the second video of a series with the wonderfully enormous (in all aspects) Korg PS-3300 playing with Antonus instruments. This Korg PS-3300 was in Antonus studio and workshop during some months for study, works and of course for enjoy it playing.

This second video is an improvisation using Korg PS-3300 with the Antonus Step Brother sequencer. One wonderful thing is that the Korg PS-3300 can use volt/oct scale using the pitch input and adjusting the level for correct scale making possible to use the Quantized outputs of the Step Brother. This allows to make two different sequences with the Step Brother with the 8/2 mode and play 2 parts of the 3300 (1 and 3) Compared with the first impro this is more sequential feeling, looking for play the instrument in a very far way from the keyboard concept idea thanks the the multiple patching points. Listening now I find that would have been interesting to add a drum machine or modular system with drum patches for fill with other drum layers... maybe next time I can have the PS-3300 again at the studio!

The Antonus Step Brother have many useful parts for creative patching, for interact with some parts of the 3300 and with the Step Brother itself to bring more life, movement and complexity in real time sequences and the main sound. Is is a perfect partner for sucha instrument, unique for being omniphonic, with patching possibilities, making unique sounds and techniques for this mixture of concepts.

The demo is recorded in one take, no multitrack was used in this recording. Only Korg PS-3300 + Antonus Step Brother + Korg SDD1200 dual delay unit.

The sound of this instruments is very very particular like no other synthesizer, it has the magic of the early synthesizers with all the beauty, the weird, the idealism, the raw, the musical and many other other adjectives proper of this kind of instruments. Is a real travel to the past while examining, studying and playing this instrument.

Thanks to Ernesto Romeo from La Siesta del Fauno studio laboratory in Buenos Aires for bring us for a time this awesome piece of electronic music history."

KORG Reveals Upcoming PS-3300 FS

Update: I'm hearing the PS-3300 will be available in late 2024, built-to-order, for an etimated price of $13,000.

KORG is bringing out a full-size reissue of the PS-3300. Details follow.

The PS-3300 FS is a full-scale reissue of the original Korg PS-3300, a legendary and ultra-rare synthesizer designed by legendary Korg engineer Fumio Mieda and produced by Korg in very limited numbers from 1977 to 1981.

The PS-3300 FS reissue marks a new milestone in synth history, and the latest achievement by the same Korg engineering team that brought back iconic machines such as the MS-20, ARP ODYSSEY, miniKORG 700 FS and ARP 2600.

“Bringing back to life these legendary machines is not only a process of reproducing circuits and sounds, but also of learning and embracing the essence of the philosophy and development of synthesizers.

Through this project I was able to relive the history of Korg and a critical moment in the evolution of our synthesizers. This was an extremely valuable experience that provided an opportunity for Korg's philosophy and technology to be carried on to future generations.”

- Yoshihito Yamada, Chief Engineer of Korg Analog Synthesizers

Key features
49 keys / 49 voice analog polyphony (the original model had 48 keys / voices)

3 Layers: The PS-3300 consists of three synthesizer units (PSU-3301) and a mixer & utility section (PSU-3302)

Three independent oscillators, plus multiple filters, envelopes and amplifiers for every note on its keyboard, for a total of 147 synth voices of raw analog power

Microtuning knob x12 on each PSU-3301 unit

New panel memory function (16 programs per bank and 16 banks = 256 slots)

Modernised for contemporary music use with the inclusion of USB / MIDI jacks, and a dedicated librarian app for easy preset management

Semi-modular

3-Band Resonator: Three frequency bands can be emphasised, a feature unique to the PS-3300 (original was a Cadmium sulfide circuit, but it was replaced with modern components for safety and to comply with regulations)

Keyboard unit (PS-3010) included

You can find an audio demo on KORG's website here.

KORG PS-3100 - Synth Demo

video upload by synth4ever

"Korg PS-3100 vintage polyphonic analog synthesizer demo. During a visit to the Vintage Synth Museum in LA, I had a chance to try the Korg PS-3100 analog synth. In this demo I briefly noodle and tweak some parameters to show some Korg PS-3100 sounds.

The Korg PS-3100 was released in 1977 and has 48-voices of polyphony via 12 divide-down oscillators. The Korg PS-3100 has 2 LFOs, Resonator, multiple envelopes, Ensemble effect, patchbay, 3-band EQ, 12 scaling controls for intonation control, 48 keys and CV/Gate connections.

The Korg PS-3100 is very rare as apparently only 600 were manufactured. It's successors the Korg PS-3200 and PS-3300 had even more capabilities. The sound is very rich and warm, and is excellent for nice brassy tones. Hope you enjoy the demo."

Korg PS-3010 keyboard & PS-3001 60 pin connector for Korg PS series

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"You are bidding on a Korg PS-3010 keyboard for Korg PS series (PS-3100, PS-3200 & PS-3300) and the 60 pin connector cable PS-3001. Comes from the PS-3200 of the Moogchild Synthdrome collection (as you can see in the last picture), and I'm selling it because I've found another NOS keyboard from 1978. It is fully functional and in very good shape with some minor signs of wear (see pictures).

Korg PS-3200s and PS-3300 without midi won't work without this keyboard, so if you have the synth but neither the keyboard nor the cable, this is a unique chance to complete a system currently valued above 10.000USD and increasing price overtime."

KORG PS-3300

images via this auction

This one went for $21,000

Interesting details from the auction:
"I have been the sole owner of this Korg PS 3300. 100% Original. !00% Functional. 100% Complete. Ser.# 780302. I ordered this PS 3300 brand new from a local Korg Dealer, Music Sound World in Tulsa, OK, immediately after returning from demoing a PS 3300 Floor Model at Arnold&Morgan Music in Dallas,TX. Included is a custom built performance table. Included is the original owner’s manual. Also included are the set of original patch cables. The factory edge connectors for all of the internal circuit boards on the main bus have been replaced with upgrades that will not crack as the original connectors did. All circuits and pots are working. A few pots and switches need to be cleaned due to the little use it has received recently. The longer it is powered on and played the less this is an issue. Dependable, reliable and very well taken care of over all of the years I have owned it. The only cosmetic blemishes are two slight chips in the veneer (one each on both sides of the wood case). For the exception of these two chips the rest of the cabinet is clean and in great shape. All knobs and switches are original and complete with no cracks or damage. No blemishes on any of the front panels. All of the Keyboard controller trigger switches and joystick are complete and funtional. All keys are undamaged , original and playable. No Midi.

If you are not familiar with this incredible instrument here is a link to WikiPedia to assist those of you who are interested and would like to learn more about this unbelievably powerful and unique modular fully analog polyphonic synthesizer.

Korg PS 3300

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The PS-3300 is a megalithic semi-modular two piece synthesizer system from Korg. It was one of the first truly polyphonic analog synthesizers from the mid '70's! Beautiful wood panels, plenty of knobs and patch-points and a bold Korg sound! The system follows the PS-3100 model.

The PS-3300 is like having 3 stacked PS-3100s with a built-in mixer module. The PS-3300 loves the number 48 - 48 voice polyphony, 48 VCOs, 48 VCFs and 48 VCAs! That would make this one of the largest and fattest compact synthesizer systems around! Each note on the keyboard has microtonal tunings. There's also a general envelope generator and sample and hold. In addition to a great Korg sound, it features incredible modulation abilities and is still a very useful and coveted synth even today."

Korg PS-3300 Poly Modular Synth Attended by Jean-Michel Jarre's Tech

Korg PS-3300 Modular Polyphonic Synthesizer via this auction

"This is a fully-functional, beautiful sounding Korg PS-3300. Every tantalum capacitor was replaced a couple years ago, and just recently Jeff at the Analog Lab painstakingly added all new edge card connectors. It has lived in our private NYC studio for 10 years, prior to which it was in Paris, attended by Jean-Michel Jarre's tech, and where the original contact-paper-covered case was replaced with cherry. As you know, getting one of these monuments to 1970's excess is virtually a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity..."

Klaus Schulze KORG PS-3300

Title link takes you to shots pulled via this auction.

Details:
"Greetings. Well what can I say. You are looking at one of the rarest synthesizers on the planet. A korg PS 3300 prototype owned by the legendary Klaus Schulze of Tangerine Dream. But sadly it does not work so I am selling it as a non working unit. This would be the ultimate restoration project for somebody with technical know-how and time. Not only is this synth mega mega rare but it has a historic valve as well. If this synth could talk it would have many stories to tell. This synth would have been on many world tours with klaus. The synth does power up with lights flashing and blinking. The main control boards seem to work. With a service, 2 out of the 3 blocks will be functional. There are 4 voice boards missing but the can be easily copied with all IC's still available (see photos).

As you can see by the photos, It has seen better days. So you may ask why am I selling such a rare and historic beast? I am getting out of the synth collecting game due to changes in life. I have changed my mind about 3000 times on whether to sell or not. This korg has no serial numbers and even has a spelling mistakes ("modifires", instead of modifiers) (see photo). All the PS 3300's made after this one has a darker face with MS 20 knobs. This PS has a light grey face with very early Maxikorg knobs. Believe me this is a upmost regrettable sale!!! So my loss is definitely your gain. So how did this synth end up in Australia? Klaus sent this synth along some minimoogs to an artist by the name of Mark Sakautzky in south australia many many years ago when digital came onto the scene. It was then purchased by David James a collector in sydney about ten years ago. Then I purchased it about 4 years ago when Dave James sold his collection. My intention was restore it. I am hoping that this synth will go to a good home that is why I am willing to pay half the shipping costs worldwide."

The Analog Lab NYC-Korg PS-3300-Erik Satie Gymnopedies No 1 (Just Intonation)

YouTube Uploaded by TheAnalogLab on Feb 3, 2012

"Korg PS-3300 recently repaired and restored by The Analog Lab

The PS-3300 allows you to tune each individual note on the front panel of each module. We decided to take this opportunity to put it in Just Intonation and play some Satie.

The main problem with this unit was all of the connectors for the bus bars attached to the circuit boards were cracked."

EMEAPP/CHERRY AUDIO PS-3300

video upload by EMEAPP

"Are you thinking of purchasing the new Cherry Audio PS-3300 plugin? Check out this video! Make sure you purchase it directly from cherryaudio.com as 10% of the profits will be donated to our organization during the month of October. An option for an additional $5 donation is also available at checkout so please consider that as well, your support is greatly appreciated!

While we were involved in prior product releases (GX-80 and Novachord), this was our first collaboration from the ground level with Cherry Audio and we definitely wanted to make an impression. We felt that a recreation of our cherished and ultra-rare KORG PS-3300 polyphonic synthesizer would be the perfect candidate for Cherry to translate from the actual hardware to the computer screen in their inimitable style. They did the PS-3300 justice and we are extremely proud to have been the source of the secrets to this mythical beast. We are also extremely grateful to the fine folks at Cherry Audio who have gone above and beyond in their support of EMEAPP and our mission. We look forward to future projects together.
