KORG volca modular: "Liquid Alloy" - Self-triggering patch

Published on Mar 17, 2019 IAmTheSwordmaster1

"This is one of my first experiments with the KORG volca modular micro-modular synthesizer. I'm completely new to this kind of West Coast style synthesis, but the concept of creating complex soundscapes with the element of coincidence is quite appealing. I created this self-triggering patch and recorded it for about ten minutes. It's some kind of hypnotic and kind of hard to recognize a pattern in the sounds as there is so much randomization going on. Follow me on this little sonic expedition and tell me, what you think about it.

The delay effect is coming from a KORG KAOSS PAD KP3, anything else is the pure sound of the volca modular and its built-in 'space' effect."

Westcoast Random? Korg Volca Modular or Buchla?

Published on Mar 14, 2019 Wein Glas

"A self generating patch with feedback use, but without sequencer, edits or additional FX. And with a Buchla 200(e) in the Background ;)

Btw: It is quite difficult to patch the Korg Volca Modular without the sequencer: You lose one envelope for the clock, there could be much more multiples, and another Woggle or Sample and Hold would have been nice.

Here is another Video with the Korg Volca Modular:" [posted here]

"Holiday Jam with ParipiDestroyer, KORG volca modular, beats, kick & Kaoss Pad KP3+

Hi friends! I played a brand new micro synth "ParipiDestroyer" produced by DigiLogTokyo's sub-brand "Crazy Synth Kids". This cute and very tiny synthesizer provides intense bass sounds despite its cute looks. Paripi is the meaning of "Party People" This is so dope!
How you play is up to you. It is a size that you can carry anytime and anywhere in a real sense.
In this video, I also used KORG volca modular, kick, beats and Kaoss Pad KP3+."

Korg Volca Modular: The little synth that could!

Published on Jan 27, 2020 Patchwerks Seattle

"Matthew Pieccora (aka EZBOT) demonstrates 4 basic patches that can be found on the included quick start patch guide. After the short sound demonstration enjoy an improvised jam with the Volca Modular and the Elektron Octarack!

From Korg:
A semi-modular analog synthesizer that makes modular synthesis more accessible and understandable than ever before.
Creating new sounds that don’t exist in the outside world is an unending dream which has continued since the birth of electronic musical instruments. This dream has evolved and expanded throughout the development of new and unique music production devices. The popularity of modular synthesizers around the world has generated new excitement and interest in the so-called "West Coast style" of synthesis that deviates from traditional synthesis norms. The compact body of this volca synth features eight modules and 50 patch points. While learning the basics of a modular synth, you can use popular features of the volca synthesizer line to control a unique and different flavor of analog sounds.

EURORACK MODULAR SHOCK ELECTRONIX ENSEMBLE

Published on Jul 17, 2015 PLUCKA,S SHED

Synth bird!

"A new eurorack modular from shock electronix featuring the sequencer ,delay and modulator a very easy and fun starter setup
http://shockelectronix.com/shop/"

A list of their first set of products for the archives (these are available as completed or as various DIY kits):

"EsQu-One Step Sequencer

The Shock Electronix Modatron EsQu-One Step Sequencer is our Eurorack conversion of the super compact and highly versatile Korg SQ-1 Step Sequencer.

As standard, the Korg SQ-1 is a compact step sequencer with 2 x 8 steps. It's wealth of connection jacks allows it to be integrated with a Eurorack System, connected to the MS-20, and a variety of other synthesizers.

Vintage analog synths or the latest compact synths can be controlled from this single unit. You can also switch between a variety of synthesizer modes and use the step buttons to create performances overflowing with spontaneity.

As a descendant of the SQ-10, and just like the SQ-1, the EsQu-One supports the Hz/V standard, enabling it to perfectly control the MS-20 or MS-20 mini. It goes without saying the V/Oct standard is also supported, and the voltage level of the CV output (*) and polarity of the GATE output can be specified as appropriate for the device you've connected. This versatility will enable you to control a wide variety of other synthesizers as well.

* V/Oct supported for 1V, 2V, and 5V; Hz/V supported for 8V.

Just like the SQ-1, the EsQu-One provides two CV/GATE OUT channels, the standard MIDI OUT and USB MIDI, littleBits out (to connect to the littleBits synth kit by littleBits Electronics Inc.), plus the SYNC IN/OUT channel that allows you to connect to the volca series and monotribe. In addition to this, we’ve designed the EsQu-One with an added 4 rows of multiples, and easy access to the USB port at the bottom."

"Modatron Delay

The Shock Electronix Modatron Delay is our Eurorack conversion of the extremely popular Korg Monotron Delay.

As standard, the Korg Monotron Delay offers analog-style echoes, an LFO with selectable triangle or square waveshape, the same classic analog filter found in the legendary Korg MS-10 & MS-20, and with newly added controls, there is much more flexibility and functionality than ever before."

Volca Modular Only: Short Song with Six Patches

Published on Feb 18, 2019 Hyper Objeckt

"The Volca Modular is capable of a LOT of different sounds... to help newbies like me learn the ropes, Korg has some patch examples listed on their site. I decided to create a song using only these patches. (links below)

To write this song I started off with a chord progression created by Chord Progression Generator (link below). Then, I used the sequencer on the Volca Modular to record two simple sequences that follow the progression. I also wrote a couple melodies that can be played on the ribbon keys.

This song uses a single synth recorded six times, with a different patch used in each recording. During each recording, I listened to all of the previous recordings while playing. I recorded the percussive patch ("western bongo") first, using the sequencer, to set the tempo. I recorded the most expressive melodic patch ("vibrato") last, to make sure that it fit in with the rest of the song.

NAMM 2019: Korg Volca Modular and Minilogue XD [Episode 108]

Published on Jan 24, 2019 CatSynth TV

"We check out two of Korg's new synthesizer offerings at NAMM 2019: the Volca Modular and the Korg Minilogue.

'The volca modular is a semi-modular synthesizer consisting of independent analog synth modules, digital effects, and a sequencer. Each of the modules has been carefully selected for its stand-alone completeness. The modules are internally connected so that sound can be produced even before connecting the included pin cables, and the routing is shown by white lines on the panel. Module connections via a pin cable take priority over the internal connections, bypassing them.'

'In addition to emphasizing the same real analog sound and joy of controlling an electronic musical instrument offered by the original minilogue, the minilogue xd newly adds a digital multi-engine, effects, a powered-up sequencer, and micro tuning functionality, further expanding the possibilities for sound design and performance potential. BURG - blue moon array (subsequent 37, avalon, digitakt, modular)

Published on Apr 1, 2018 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

This track was a big struggle, getting the subsequent 37 and grandstage to fit into the mix and workflow took a few days to get right. Also, I managed to make some proper misses while recording, so i had to do 7 or 8 retakes of the track until i finally got one I was happy with.

Also, since I have started filming everything in 1080p my cameras tend to get filled up way more quickly than before, so I did a take where the audio was good.. but I have no footage, haha. Need to get bigger SD cards OR just clear the old videos more regularly (not to self).

On this track I wanted get the subsequent 37 into its place, solos, leads etc will be the main use case .. good thing is that I can now alternate the ms-20 and S37, the KORG is acually doing a sequence on this one which is lovely since I have been using is mainly for leads.

There is a lot of stuff going on in this track. S37 has the RE-20 delay + strymon bluesky (plate algorithm). Grandstage has reverse delay from the particle + a big blackhole reverb from the eventide. Avalon handles the main bassline together with one of the volcas.

Digitakt is on beats and dub-chord duty plus some hihats and rimshots from the TR-8.

The modular has 4 sounds, BIA percussion, intro sequence on the braids, doepfer uVCO A-111-3 does the main top line sequence, rings does a shimmer style background sequence. All controlled by the eloquencer + the q-bit octone.

FX in modular rack, strymon timeline and keeley caverns, the EQD pedals are not in use on this one.

Gear list:

Moog subsequent 37, KORG grandstage, Nord NLA1, KORG ms-20 mini + SQ-1 sequencer, elektron digitakt, ROland TR-8, avalon bassline, KORG volca bass + volca keys.

Analog four, 0-coast, volca fm, and second volca bass are not in use.

Current modular rack - https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/445007

FX list:

RE-20 + strymom bluesky (S37), eventide space, catalinbread CSIDMAN, red panda particle, (Grandstage), strymon el capistan (ms-20 mini), ms70 CDR (volca keys), Strymon timeline + keeley caverns (modular), KORG kaoss PAD (samples).

I hope you will enjoy this one.

KORG VOLCA MODULAR // Patch 2 // P3 II

Published on May 24, 2019 LESINDES

"KORG VOLCA MODULAR // Patch 2 // P3 II.
Wiring should be quite clear by the video.

I returned this synthesizer recently -- and that's why:

The MODULAR is a synthesizer with a potential but also with a lot of NOs, unfortunately. I really like the idea of it but it has:

1. unlike all the other Volcas NO Midi input
2. NO seperate gate input -- combined CV/Gate in so special stereo mini jack to 2 mono mini jacks cable needed
3. LPG is very low, only half as loud as LPG1, or my Volca is broken?!
4. Gate or CV output of keyboard and sequencer only in these fiddle sockets.
5. Cables with the soft easily bendable ends feel and are very fiddly. The raw cable ends slide easily out of the sockets even though you only gently touch the cables!
6. The black pot underbeath in front of both Cutoff pots should be the control voltage patched in sockets A + B but even if it is turned fully conterclockwise (= minimum) there is still CV being let out. I don't know if there is a work around for that or if my MODULAR is part of faulty batch??!

From min. 5 - 8 it is clock input is patched as source by mistake but there is still a lot of entertaining tweaking ;-)"

BURG - the quiet earth (ms-20, monologue, eurorack)

#ms20 #KORGmonologue #eurorack

Sorry for the long silence, I have been working hard on finalising a future release.. this track is the final puzzle. Stay tuned for more soon :)

This track really revolves around the ms-20 and monologue, but there are so many small layers and bits all around the place that helps to build a foundation for the melody to rest on. The eurorack takes care of some advanced percussion, noise tools (white noise hhs), plonk for toms, BIA for some metal style percussion. Braids and Rings does some random sequences with washes of clouds and shimmer reverbs.. small textures to help fill the small gaps inbetween the beats.

TR-8S does 707 kick and snare plus some simpler hihats, bass from the volca bass sequenced from digitone. Avalon does what is does best, square melodies adding some delay FX from the analog four.

All in all it feels very uptempo, but only clocking in at 99bpm.. :)

I hope you will enjoy this one!

Peace // BURG

"KORG VOLCA Series & Guitar on an CHILL AMBIENT LIVE SESSION with Roland Juno 60, Jomox Xbase 09, Waldorf Microwave I, Nord Modular, Doepfer MS 404 (at the end). Main synths are Volca Keys, Bass (sorry a bit too loud in the mix...) & Beats with individual Hi Hat Output. I have described in the video (filmed with 3 cams), what Synths are playing/muted. So you don't have to guess the different sounds.

First time I added to the whole track Video material from Street scenes in Dresden, filmed with Leica and canon with a very old Zeiss Jena Biometar 80mm with Tilt-Adapter for a different look

Yamaha RM1x is only used as sequencer and MIDI-Clock Master, Beats has MIDI-Out Mod and syncs my Boomerang III Looper. Recorded without overdubs, Noise Reduction and mastering in just one take.

ENJOY LISTENING AND WATCHING :-)

KORG VOLCA SET UP:
Volca Keys signal left channel into MFB-Filterbox and right channel straight into the Submixer, with heavy use of Delay
Volca Bass into the sub mixer

(Currently Free) Korg iKaossilator SyncKontrol & Volca Modular Jam - Hunker Down

Published on Mar 14, 2020 ChrisLody

"So Korg have very kindly decided to make iKaossilator on iOs and Android free for a limited period in the wake of Coronavirus. Very nice of them I reckon. Here is their article on the matter:

https://www.korg.com/uk/news/2020/0313/

So with that in mind I thought I'd try it out and have a quick jam as a thanks to Korg. Here is iKaossilator running on an iPad synced to the Volca Modular via SyncKontrol on my iPhone which is another Korg app which has always been free I believe. By enabling Ableton Link in both apps you can use SyncKontrol to send pulses at the correct tempo from a project on another device. Handy for Volca synchronisation.

On the Volca Modular I have use Function 2 as the main envelope which means the rhythm can be controlled a little using the Time knob which is really useful to get some variation into things."
