Mok Space Upates

Title link takes you to Mok's space on Twango. You will find new images and samples since my last post on Nov 11.

"I've uploaded some stuff recently to my page on Twango, including pics and a cool arpeggiator demo of the Jupiter, more XBase and Alienator stuff, a demo of the 'Infinte Reverb' from my Lexicon 200, more Multimoog demos, and some examples of an Omnichord in action. I'll try to get more solid stuff from the Jupiter up there soon - I sit there and play on it for hours and lose track of time and forget to record any of it!" Sounds awefully familiar. : )

She performed two extended pieces: White Wine (solo version) and Donershtik, using Arturia MiniBrute and MicroFreak, Nord Stage EX, Novation controller, MOK Waverazor, Strymon Magneto, and more.

To see excerpts from all three sets please check out our previous video: [below]
For more new and adventurous electronic music, please subscribe to this channel and visit www.catsynth.com.

_________
Amanda Chaudhary’s live performances bring theatricality and flare to the sometimes staid world of experimental electronics. She combines sophisticated modular synthesizers and software, with conventional instruments and even toys and DIY electronics for a unique experience that moves effortlessly between experimental noise, jazz and funk, ambient abstract landscapes, and more. She has been performing solo and with various groups in the Bay Area, New York, and beyond for many years and is deliberately difficult to pin down to a particular style or practice, except to say that her work is always fun to experience. Amanda is also the founder of CatSynth.com and CatSynth TV, which covers music, synthesizers, art, and culture through the prism of a love for cats. The feline sometimes works its way back into her music."

Special Edition Jomox XBase09

via cutandcover at gmail dot com who has is selling it for $850: "This is a special edition Jomox XBase09 analog kick/snare/noise drum machine with four sample sets for the Hat section which include samples from the CR-78, TR-808, TR-909, and special Jomox samples. The special sets include samples of the Closed/Open HiHat, Rim Shot, Handclap, Ride, Crash, and analog noise. The samples for the hihats, rimshots, claps, and crashes can all be played in reverse as well. The specs otherwise are identical to the stock XBase09 except the DinSync port does not function. Software version 2.09 (last and fully stable release), absolutely 100% mint with owner's manual and original power supply (110V). Perfect and unstoppable internal clock and syncable to external MIDI clock. Triophonic (kick, snare, 'hat' section) but can edit individual sounds per step (all parameters!). Kick has eight editable parameters (Env Tune, Pitch, Decay, Harmonics, Pulse, Noise, Env Attack, EQ Rolloff). Snare has five editable parameters (Tune, Snappy, Decay, Detune, Noise Tune). Hat section has Tune and Decay editable for all samples. X0X-style sequencer with pattern and kit saving. A true beast, and no longer made.

A video of me demoing this unit can be seen here:

More audio demos can be heard here: http://share.ovi.com/channel/mok.public
Note, mok also has a BugBrand BugCrusher '08 for sale (posted on MATRIXSYNTH-B).

Jupiter 8 Poly Vs. Dual

via Mok
"OK - here is a demo of the differences between Poly mode (8 voices, mono) and Dual mode (4 voices x 2 channels - stereo) on the Jupiter-8. There are eight different patches that I created - each goes for a couple of seconds on Poly, and then I set it for Dual with both upper and lower outputs on the same patch for a stacked four-voice stereo. Some of these sounds do well in both, while some just love the stacking. The slight differences in tuning over two sets of four voices, combined with the fact that the LFO's don't sync between 'stacks', creates a huge stereo field. I tried to play similar things on each pass (poly vs. dual) and also tried to balance the volumes afterward (as the dual pass was generally hotter). Yes, the JP is a little more difficult to play with "just four voices", but having owned the PEK for so long, I am used to that... I start out with a real basic patch, but each one is sufficiently different to hopefully maintain 'interest'."

Waverazor Contextual Editor Introduction

Published on Apr 1, 2018 MOK

"The Waverazor 2.0 Editor version features an innovative new contextual editing system that easily manages the power of thousands of parameters by only displaying what you need, when you need it. Focus on any synthesis module for editing and everything that is linked to it will be shown automatically. This allows you to quickly navigate through the entire synth and craft the connections that bring Waverazor’s unique sounds to life.

This video is a quick introduction to how the editor works, discussing controls and navigation at a basic level.

Dirty sound design & sequencing with the MOK Waverazor // #JAMUARY2020 DAY 27

Published on Jan 27, 2020 DivKidVideo

Fun to look at.

"Let's get the week kicked into touch and off to a banging start. Here's some nasty and dirty sounds out of the MOK Waverazor Eurorack module. There's TONNEs (how many eurorack CV inputs constitute a tonne?) of modulation inputs so I thought I'd throw lots at it, jam with envelopes, VCA offsets, sequences and muting drums in and out and get lots of sounds and sequences flying by. Love it.

MOK Waverazor demo and patch programming

Published on Aug 13, 2019 CatSynth TV

"We explore the Waverazor, a unique and powerful software synthesizer from MOK. Each oscillator generates sound from one or more waveform slices that can be changed and modified in real time, with the oscillators feeding into multiple filters and finally to a mixer and effects section.

We demo several of the factory presets (including a second bank created by Richard Devine), and give a short tutorial on basic programming of the oscillators, filters, and modulation matrix."

The Great Highway, San Francisco (with original soundtrack)

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We travel one of San Francisco's most controversial thoroughfares, the Great Highway. The Great Highway runs for 3.5 miles along the western edge of the city, next to Ocean Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Our journey joins the Great Highway at its intersection with Lincoln Way, at the southwestern corner of Golden Gate Park. We then travel southward to Sloat Boulevard and continue along the Great Highway Extension to Skyline Boulevard and Lake Merced.

The Great Highway was closed to motor vehicles in 2020 during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, but remained open to pedestrians and bicyclists. It has also periodically closed due to flooding and sand accumulating on the roadmap. Since the middle of 2021, it has operated in a hybrid mode, with the road open to motor vehicles Monday afternoon through Friday morning, and then closed on weekend from Friday afternoon to mid-day on Monday, as well as on holidays. The Great Highway Extension south of Sloat Boulevard is scheduled to close to traffic permanently in 2023.

Original electronic music by Amanda Chaudhary, featuring sounds from Ellott Sharp's Invented Instruments sample pack. This forms both the percussive pattern throughout the video as well as a section of samples played through the Arturia CMI V. Addition synthesizers and effects include:
Cherry Audio GX-80
Strymon Starlab module
East West Ra library (tablas)
MOK Fitryg
Arturia Delay Tape-201

Flame Talking Synth Sequence Demo

via mok's space
"Just got one of these bad boys and it is pretty deep. Speech synthesis chips controllable (barely) by a set of switches, knobs, and two joysticks. Seriously fun. This is a recorded internal sequence playing back while I'm adjusting different parameters to give a good idea of the range of this thing. There are two chips outputting hard left and right so it's 'stereo'."
