Vintage Farfisa Soundmaker Analog Synthesizer

Published on Mar 1, 2015 Joseph McGinty

"A demonstration of the Farfisa Soundmaker synthesizer, currently for sale."

via MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS

"Basically it's a combination string synth, poly synth and mono synth. When you blend all three it sounds pretty huge!

Mono presets include: Tube, Trombone, Trumpet, Sax, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Piccolo, Violin, Accordion, El. Bass, El. Guitar and "Free". The filter can be controlled by the LFO and/or the ADSR. There's portamento control for the mono sounds. The LFO can also control pitch or the VCA for tremelo effects.

Poly presets: Piano, Harpsichord, Honkye Tonk, Brass. There's a filter for the poly section that controls brightness.

Strings: 8' and 4', with Brilliance, Sustain and Attack controls.

Cosmetically there are a few gashes where the music stand used to go (see pictures)."

Electro-Harmonix 8 Step Program - "Get On The Bus"

Published on Jun 12, 2013 EHX·164 videos

Electro Harmonix 8 Step on eBay - It's less than you might think.

"The EHX 8 Step Program plugs into the expression pedal or CV input of other effects pedals and synthesizers delivering rhythmic sequencer control. With eight independent sliders, each controlling a sequence step, it can turn an ordinary auto-wah into a step filter, a tremolo into a syncopated pulse effect and a pitch-shifter into an arpeggiator.

This eye-popping video, shot less than a mile from EHX headquarters at Carousel Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, provides a peak into the sound sculpting power of the new 8 Step Program!

BROTHER AUTO EMILLION

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Vintage 70's BROTHER AUTO EMILLION organ keyboard/synthesizer, made in Japan. features a wide range of sound options with both presets (Harpsichord, Marimba and Vibes); as well as user-controlled sounds via the separate mixers for Flute 8', Flute 4', Oboe and Violin. Additional controls are Vibrato and Sustain, along with various accompaniment options. Also included is a Rhythm Section/Drum Machine with a number of preset patterns which can be altered in Tempo and Output Volume in relation to the keyboard played sounds.

There is an onboard speaker, plus different input/output options on the back.

This unit is in excellent working order and very clean physical condition as pictured. It is a quality-built vintage portable organ - not a toy. The top and bottom casing panels are all metal, with plastic sides. The sounds are surprisingly good and the options are versatile for a range of uses - including stage. Dimensions of the organ itself are approx 76 x 30 x 10cm, and it weighs around 9kg"

You can find a video of one previously posted here.

Update via Joe McGinty in the comments: "Looks like a re-branded Baldwin Discoverer [posts here] (which is also very cool). Functions are exactly the same. Interesting."

Update2: you can also see one in this video with Tame Impala.

New York, NY - Poet of Sound and Image KiNo will unleash a programme of sonic and visual ephemera in line with his psychedelic live musical performances for the month of June at the World Monuments Fund Gallery (15 East 27th Street.) The landscape will be punctuated by two-dimensional works from artists Bill Alpert, Bartus Bartolomes, Scott Alger, Astolfo Funes and Marjan Denkov.

KiNo uses images, sounds and words to comment on the fundamental aspects of human beings and their behavior. With unwavering intimations of conscience, his work strives to stimulate the emotional intelligence of his audience. During his 27 day residency, KiNo will present a universe of sound, film, and live installation.

"Sonic wizard" Jeff Blenkinsopp (Pink Floyd, Vangelis, The Secret Machines) invented an analogue processing device especially for KiNo known as the KiNo Live Rig. This one of a kind machine will join forces with the world's largest synthesizer, T.O.N.T.O. (The Original New Timbral Orchestra). Created by Malcolm Cecil (credited for electrifying Stevie Wonder), the performance version of TONTO will be installed at the gallery. For video footage of TONTO, click here. [embed below]

Emu Modular for Sale

via Joe McGinty

"I am selling a gigantic Emu modular that belonged to Mark Lindsay (Paul Revere and The Raiders). After leaving the Raiders, Lindsay worked on television and movie soundtracks and commercials. This modular was used most notably for the Shogun Assassin soundtrack. There are over 70 modules in this system, including 11 VCOs, 8 Filters, and 8 Envelope Generators. There is a full list of modules below.

It has been in storage for 30+ years, and is in good to excellent cosmetic condition. There are no cables included, so at the moment it is not tested. NYC modular synth expert Steve Masucci will be testing the modules, and will have more information by Monday. You can find more details about Emu Modulars here.

Pictures are here: Emu Modular Pics [archived in this post]

We are not interested in breaking this apart, and are only selling the entire unit, 4 cabinets + keyboard.
This instrument is a museum piece, and an important part of analog synthesizer history. Please send serious offers only. If we don't get any reasonable offers it will go on eBay. We are not interested in any trades.

Item is in Piermont, NY, about 40 minutes outside of NYC and is available for local pickup only.

Please respond to joemcginty7 at gmail.com

Thanks,
Joe"

Space Nutz!

YouTube via rastro2

"Created by Bob Kathman and Joe McGinty, The Space Nutz are an outer space rock band from the planet Blorp. Music: "Space Age Road Song", by Joe McGinty"

via Joe: "Just wanted to let you know about some recordings I did in the early 90s, for a cartoon project--Space Nutz! The cartoon series never came to fruition, but the tracks are now available online. The recordings were inspired by Perrey & Kingsley, and other fun "Switched On" records. There are some wacky covers ("Smoke On The Water", "Blitzkrieg Bop", "I Think I Love You") and some originals as well.

On-topic content:
Analog synths used were Minimoog and Oberheim Matrix-12, sequenced with one of those Akai ASQ-10 Sequencers. Recorded into a Tascam Porta One.

Other synths: Roland S-550 sampler, Yamaha TX-802, Alesis HR-16B, Kurzweil K1000. Also, some cheap toys bough on Canal Street.

You can listen to some examples here
And here

While you're at the blog, you can check out my combo's cover of Jean-Jacques Perrey's "Moog Indigo", performed at his concert in NYC last October (and JJP's new video!):

that's all for now!"

Disclaimer: I have a hard rule only posting stuff that showcases a specific synth, meaning you have to be able to ID it in the track, video or imagers. I'm making the rare exception on this one so do not flood me with requests unless you can showcase the synth.

Circuit Parade

via Joe of Circuit Parade:

"Circuit Parade is playing on Wednesday night at the Luna Lounge in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Analog content: I'll be playing my PolyEvolver Keyboard, and Leon Dewan will be playing his home-made analog synthesizers: the Swarmatron (pictured) and the Melody Gin (for more info, check out Dewanatron.com). The band also features woodwinds by Mike McGinnis (The Four Bags) & cello by Julia Kent (Antony & The Johnsons). Incidentally, I've been enjoying the PEK immensely, and it plays an important role in this new "band".

Actually, I put together the whole night, and the other bands are very cool as well.

Info:
Unicornicopia 8 PM (Natalie Weiss' one woman set, with tape loops & samples, somehow melodic & noisy at the same time). Click on the link for a nice vocoder & ARP 2600 track that I produced.

Circuit Parade 9 PM (My band, don't have any mp3s yet)

Spray Paint Star 10 PM (My good friend Julian Maile's new band--features a Juno-60 and SixTrak)

Padre Pio 11 PM
