Korg MS-20 doing a disco beat

YouTube via zioguido
"My MS-20 is playing a disco beat by itself! This is an endless loop created by retriggering the notes using the MG pulse output.
The connections on the patch panel are as follows:

1) MG sqr out to TRIG IN (the jack I'm inserting and removing to start/stop playback)
2) WHITE NOISE to VCA IN
3) VCA OUT to ESP IN with low-cut and hi-cut filters all the way up
4) ESP band-pass out to EXT SIG. IN
The white noise fed into the ESP and then into the EXT.IN does the hi-hat, while the EG2 with a rapid decay does the bassdrum using the hi-pass filter and the EG1 with the delay time set to 1 does the octave jump on the bass. You can see the other settings in the video.

Watch your speakers! This is gonna be loud!"

RYK VectorWave New Firmware. Multiple Amp Envelopes

video upload by UncertainMusicCorps

"A very speedy if rough demo of the most recent firmware beta for the RYK VectorWave.

Each of the 4 voice banks now has a dedicated ADSR, assigned to control the voice amplitude. So the module is now truly 4 voice multitimbral when in multi mode.

The same envelope can also be assigned to any of the other destinations available in the modulation slots at the same time.

So here, I’ve quickly set up SIG to provide pitch and gates x3 to drive 3 voices on the expanded VectorWave running the new firmware set up in a way that ( hopefully) makes it clear that each voice has a different amplitude contour going on.

This was set up literally within 10 minutes of updating the firmware so it’s not very sophisticated. But I just wanted to demo what a difference this makes to what was already a very powerful module. I’m sure I’ll be making more considered use of this combo later…."

Custom Desktop Steiner-Parker Synthacon Demo Ft. Samatha Glass

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Published on Jan 14, 2018 Switched On

"Our demo of the rare keyboard-less Steiner-Parker Synthacon. Hosted by Samatha Glass of Holodeck Records. Serviced In January 2018 by Switched On in Austin, Texas."

via this auction

"This original keyboard-free Synthacon is fully functional, recently serviced, and in very good condition. Service includes being full recapped, all pots and switches cleaned, and tuned & scaled. It has a rebuilt power cable and includes a Cinch Jones to 1/4" female jack for S-Trig in.

The Synthacon is rare and exceptional sounding 3 oscillator mono synth from the late 70's. It features switch based modulation routing with CV & Gate from the top. The signature Steiner Parker VCF offers rich filtering with powerful resonance and the 3 VCOs provide for stable robust sound source.

The modulation section consists of the Dual Envelope Generator, Trigger Generator, and Sample & Hold section. The Trigger generator is a square wave LFO capable of cycling the Envelope Generator. The Sample & Hold is fed by VCO 3 which allows you to route Noise as well as any of the waveforms for processing and can be triggered from either the Trigger Generator or the S-Trig input. Also any of the VCOs can used in the LFO range.

VC IN 1 is routed throught the S&H section, VC IN 2 is the standard 1v/Oct input, VCF IN is the CV input for filter cutoff, SIG IN routes external signals through the filter, and the Trig in is routed from the Cinch Jones port."

Eurorack low pass gates - session 5 (ish)

video upload by John Schussler

Note this is the first post to feature BeepBoop.

"I can't stop collecting low pass gates. There's GAS, and then there's LPG GAS. Don't know what the deal is there.

Here's the latest batch. Most of them are small and passive, but some are bigger and powered and covered in knobs and sliders and stuff. So it's really a sound comparison, not a full module comparison.

Sound source: Befaco Pony square wave. Sequencer: Stochastic IG.
No envelopes, just gates out of the SIG.

Pear

video by UncertainMusicCorps

"A duet between MI Marbles and the Stochastic Inspiration Generator (https://www.stochasticinstruments.com...). Two quite different approaches to achieve generative outcomes.

Marbles pairs with Plaits. SIG controls Disting EX Wavetable oscillator. SWN does drone duties"

The Stochastic Inspiration Generator was first posted here with a blue face panel by Omsonic Lab. This one appears to be re-branded under Stochastic Instruments, which technically makes this the first Stochastic Instruments post.

Info on the module:

"Each event the Stochastic Inspiration Generator creates has its pitch, octave, duration, onset, offset, portamento and ratchet set by probability controls. You can exert as much or as little control over what the next event will be as you wish. This could be very simple (e.g. raise C, E, G and 1/16 to 100% and you have a random arpeggiator kicking out constant 1/16 ) or something much more interesting…

The Inspiration Generator leverages tonal harmony by exploiting its statistical hierarchy of pitches: some notes turn up a lot, some not so much, some not at all. Being ‘in’ C Major means having lots of Cs, quite a lot of Gs and Es, a few Fs, some Ds, As and Bs, but no C#s, D#s, F#s, G#s, A#s. Set the note probabilities accordingly and Stochastic will spontaneously jam in C Major. Shift the probabilities, and you morph the tonality, key or mode they define into new tonal landscapes.

It knows all the musical parameters that shape a line: you can probablise the overall octave range over which it improvises (‘register’) and the octave offsets of each note. Bass notes define harmony and inversion, so you can imply a change of C Root to C 1st Inversion by initially dropping only the Cs by 2 octaves and then swapping to drop only the Es, all in live performance. You can even set the likelihood that melodies will be stepwise or more angular. It also knows about rhythm: you can set the likelihood that each subsequent note will be any value from an 8 bar drone to constant 1/16 pulses. And Stochastic can loop: if it suddenly strikes melody gold, hit Loop, define your loop length, release, and it will loop the phrase until you suspend loop. Hit Loop again to return to the saved loop, or hold to overwrite a new one."

Yeah, what anonymous said -- these guys spammed all over the KVR fora recently. Don't give 'em any press."

Update: Via Wiglaf in the comments: "Keep reading that thread, the person who made that could be in some trouble." The risk is Gibson coming after them for the likeness of the Oberheim name. Gibson owns it. Thanks Wiglaf, I might have missed the updates - only so much time in the day feeding this site along with everything else. : )

Some choice snips from the thread:
"spookyman, I would take Bitexion's advice and tell your friend to either make it free or remove all references to Oberheim.

Why? ... well for the reasons already given, but also because I too have first-hand experience with such issues. Look at the last 2 softsynths mentioned in my sig. I am part of a developing team called Voltkitchen, we released these 2 emulations last year and we almost immediately received cease and desist e-mails from Arturia, as well as a less-nasty but inquiring e-mail from Moog Music.

However, Arturia's threats did not amount to anything because our product does not copy anything from their software. Arturia are just another company making emulations, not the original hardware (and they don't own the Moog or Arp name). So they had no case. But they were VERY nasty and threatening toward us for the obvious reasons (market share being taken away).

With Moog Music, their concern was not the softsynth itself but the "use" of the Moog legacy in the graphical layout and general appearance. I know calling it MiniMogue was a little bit of a sly side-step, but at least they were okay about it in the end after conversing with them via e-mail. Since Moog Music makes hardware (Voyager, etc.), they weren't concerned at all about market share, there's no comparison between a hardware real-analog Voyager and our free software.

However, Gibson is a HUGE company and might not be so nice. They've been known to throw lawsuits around like confetti. Tell your friend to be VERY careful."

Followed by:
"heheee.... thanks for your work on MinimogueVA! I work for Moog and own a Voyager, and guess what? I love MinimogueVA and use it on tracks side-by-side with the Voyager. It really sounds good. Not better and certainly there are many areas where they don't overlap... but I am not interested in comparing A to B as much as I am into really good sound... and MmVA is one of incredibly few VSTi's that really sounds good to my ears. The fact that it can even keep up in a mix with the V'ger and my Jupiter is quite telling. Keep up the good work... "

Get LoFi - blog on circuit bending

http://www.getlofi.com/

Crazy story on how I found this blog:

So I get an email today on a site focused on the Crumar Bit One, O1, and 99. I'm in a rush to head out so I pop on the site and decide to check it out later. Lots of good info but it hasn't been updated in a while, some dead links, etc. But before I head out I see a couple of sites in the sig of the email. And the thought pops in my head that I might find something I'd rather blog about there. I see SSM and think of SSM synth chips of yore. So I check it out but that's not what the site is about. I skip/miss the second link, as I have to head out. Later in the day I'm on Feedster and decide to search on my site for fun. GetLoFi comes up. I click through and wow, I find all this great stuff. I think "I need to blog this!" I then figure I should give the owner a heads up. I look for the contact info and I see it's someone that goes by circuitmaster. I think what the... I go back to the Bit 01 email and lo and behold it's circuitmaster, and the other link I never got around to... GetLoFi. The odd thing is I posted on circuit bending earlier today not knowing what GetLoFi was about, and the thing that instantly caught my attention on GetLoFi... This post on a 1-bit synth. 1-bit synth? Bit 01? : ) Really bizarre day... I think that FIZMO patch had something to do with it. Now I have to put that Crumar Bit post up. Until then, check out GetLoFi.
