New Batch of Synthfest UK 23 Videos

video uploads by sonicstate

Playlist: (you can use the player controls to skip around)

1. Synthfest UK 23: Sequential - Trigon 6 Desktop
At SynthFest UK 2023, we had the opportunity to chat with Chris from Sequential, a part of the Focusrite group. Chris introduced us to the Trigon 6 Desktop, the latest addition to Sequential's synthesizer lineup. This compact desktop version of the Trigon 6 packs a powerful punch, offering three oscillators and a distinctive Dave Smith ladder filter. Designed for those seeking a space-saving solution without compromising on sound quality, the Trigon 6 Desktop retains all the features of its larger sibling, including patch recall, a versatile effects section with various modulation possibilities, and the distinctive feedback control that allows you to sculpt sub-harmonic richness.

Trigon 6 Desktop Price: $2,499

2. Synthfest UK 2023: Calc And the Prophet X
At Synthfest UK 2023, we caught up with Calc from Sequential, and he gave us the lowdown on the Prophet X. Now, you might be thinking, Prophet X? Haven't we seen that before? Well, you're right, but this hybrid instrument has been quietly making waves in the music world. It combines digital and analog elements, with digital oscillators and a unique twist in the form of multi-sample-based instruments. Yes, you heard that right, it's not just your run-of-the-mill synth; it's a full-on sampler too, boasting an impressive 50 gigabytes of memory for your custom samples. You can treat it like a rompler, a sample player, or even use those samples as oscillators, creating a whole new realm of sonic possibilities.

Plus, it's packed with stereo goodness, allowing you to explore a wide soundstage with ease. It's not your typical synth, and that's what makes its a favourute of Calc's

Pilot 🧭 (TR-6S with new "808 Chromatic Bass", sequencing MAM ADX1 + Timeline // Sequential Take 5)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"In this jam, I'm exploring the Roland TR-6S' capability to sequence external instruments, in this case the MAM (Music And More) ADX-1, 5-voice analog drum module 🥁!

I used 4 tracks (white illuminated faders, labeled LT, HC, CH and OH) of the TR-6S to sequence 4 parts of the ADX-1 (named Synth, Snare, Hihat and Metal). I even used the "alternate instrument" sequencing feature of the TR-6S to sequence for example the closed/opened Hihat of the ADX-1 (i.e. sending 2 different notes to only one part of the ADX-1) 😃

At first I only wanted to use the TR-6S as a sequencer (not its internal sounds), however I ended up using on Track 1 its "CR-78" kick, on Track 2 its new "808 Chromatic Bass", and also layering the parts played by the ADX-1 with sounds from the TR-6S (4 last tracks). Fun fact: I didn't use any samples here 😉 All the sounds coming from the TR-6S are from the modeling ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) engine!

To be able to change the bass pitches coming from the TR-6S, I used different "variations" of the pattern, with different tunings of the "808 Chromatic Bass".

It was not very easy to jam with the Sequential Take 5 synth and change the pattern's variations at the same time, but nonetheless still fun and challenging 😅

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"The drums were played by the Roland TR-6S (using its internal sequencer) with its new v2.0 firmware including the CR-78 sounds by the ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) engine (actually I've been dreaming of this 😊).
All the synth parts were sequenced by the NDLR.

"Droid Mischief" - Akai MPC X + Arturia MiniFreak + ASM Hydrasynth + Novation BassStation II

video upload by Patrick Manderson

"'Droid Mischief' was recorded live late afternoon on Friday August 25, 2023 using a MIDI sequencer and a room full of synthesizers and drum machines. Three analog mixers were used with a rack of ouboard effects mixed in stereo and recorded. Mixing and automation was controlled by the sequencer directly to the synthesizers. The final recording required manual adjustments and muting of the of mixer channels to suppress the noise coming from some of the devices. Video was recorded weeks after afterwards.

'Droid Mischief' was inspired initially from a previous composition utilizing a number of budget analog synths from Behringer. At [3:35] these synth along with the everpresent Novation BassStation II play a series of bleeps and bloops with a backdrop of ominous vocal grunts and breaths by the *Korg MS2000*. Each of the Behringer analog synths were patched for their perspective parts with CV modulating their volumes from the *Akai MPC X*.

Three patches were programmed for the Xenomorph voice on the *Korg MS2000*. Each utilizing the Korg's distortion. Dual patches were used to mix breathing noise and throat noise with velocities. [0:24], [1:53], [3:21]

The second part 'The Feast', is anchored by a groove using syncopated bass notes on the ASM Hydrasynth and percussive embilishments using AFX-MODE on the *Novation BassStation II*. Note: 4-5 stacked BassStations w/AFX-MODE would make an incredible sounding percussion synthesizer.

The Korg Radias is always present with its flexible 16 voice drum kit filled with various bottom frequencies, mid and high filtered noises layered and mixed with various modulations to make all sorts of lovely percussions [3:30]. Vocal 'Ahhs' embelish the suspensful parts [3:46], [4:45].

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet REV2 filled in a number of spaces, most notably the drama strings at [4:36] with the Roland JP-8080.

Eight patches were staged for use in the first half on the *Roland System-1M*. Its fidelity cuts through very nicely. I was suprised by the sound coming out of it despite the generic sounding filter. The oscillators and overall fidelity is excellent.

The Korg Minilogue and Minilogue XD take turns playing bass as well as other parts throughout. Always useful and never disappointing. The Minilogue is permanently coupled with the Drawmer DL241's gate to manage its noise.

Engine drones were provided by the Sequential Prophet 6*. It also provided additional syncopated notes with the *Hydrasynth in the last 3rd.

The delicious sounds coming from the Arturia MiniFreak was on stage throughout. Liberal use of its two macro modulations over MIDI CC-117, CC-118.

Sequential Trigon-6 Module: Why You Should Be Using Synth Modules

video upload by Sweetwater

"Dave Smith’s synthesizer legacy was immediately cemented with the debut of the Prophet-5 in 1978. Nearly half a century later, Sequential continues Smith’s innovative spirit with the Trigon-6, initially released as a 49-key polyphonic analog synthesizer and now available as a synth module. It boasts the entire span of sonic capabilities that can be found in its full-size sibling, sans the keyboard. Packing power and portability into a mobility-minded module, this take on the immensely versatile Trigon-6 is a premium case study in what makes a solid synth module and why you should be using them in your setup. Daniel Fisher takes the helm to show you just what a bona fide module can do. Check it out!"

Sequential Introduces New Trigon-6 Desktop Module

Following Sequential's desktop adaptations of their classic keyboard line-up, the Trigon-6 is now available in desktop form.

Press release follows:

Introducing the New Trigon-6 Desktop Module

Ultimate Polyphonic Power
San Francisco, CA — Today, Sequential announced the desktop module of the powerhouse Trigon-6 polyphonic synthesizer, their modern take on a true-classic analog design. The desktop version is a compact and portable instrument that still packs in all the sound generation capabilities of its formidable keyboard sibling. It features three oscillators per voice and a ladder filter that has been updated with a dedicated drive and feedback control, making it easy to go from silky and smooth to bold and crunchy with the twist of a knob. This versatility makes Trigon-6 the perfect companion for your studio or live performance.

The desktop module is more than just a smaller version of the keyboard Trigon-6. It’s an expressive and potent instrument that delivers warm, organic, analog sound in its own right. “Desktop module designs continue to be a popular choice with our players,” said CEO David Gibbons. “We spent a little extra time on MIDI polyphonic expression capabilities as we finalized this one, in anticipation of people pairing it up with some of the awesome MPE-capable controllers on the market. We’re looking forward to hearing what people will do with it!”

Three is a Magic Number
The Trigon-6 desktop module offers a classic three-oscillator synth architecture with an enhanced ladder filter, inspired by some of the most iconic analog synths of all time. The three oscillators provide a rich and flexible sound source, with familiar waveforms from triangle to more complex saws, and variable-width pulse. You can mix and match the oscillators to create intricate harmonics, detune them for thick chorusing effects, or sync oscillator 2 for hard-edged growls.
Meanwhile, the ladder filter completes the heart and soul of the Trigon-6, providing a smooth and musical response that can shape your sound from creamy and mellow to mangled and aggressive. The filter has a 2/4-pole switchable slope and adjustable resonance that can add a distinctive peak or even self-oscillate for screaming leads and sci-fi effects. And with Drive and Feedback engaged, get ready to melt some faces!

Greater Expression Through MPE
Now Trigon-6 lets you shape every note with MPE. MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) is an extension of MIDI that allows compatible devices to control multiple parameters of individual notes within MPE-enabled synths. This provides for more expressive instrumental performances, as each note can have its own pitch bend, filter cutoff, amplitude, and other modulations. You will be able to bend, slide, vibrato, swell and morph your sounds with unprecedented feeling and subtlety. Experience the classic 3-oscillator, ladder filter sound like never before with Trigon-6, the groundbreaking polyphonic analog synth that lets you truly perform every nuance of your music with MPE.
The Trigon-6 synthesizer is a testament to Dave Smith’s legacy and innovation. It has all the best qualities of Sequential’s acclaimed Prophet-6 and OB-6 synths — 6-voice polyphony, unrivaled playability, and easy programmability. It
also features a global LFO, a polyphonic step sequencer, an arpeggiator, and a dual effect processor with chorus, ring modulation, flanger, phaser, delay, and reverb effects. Don’t miss this opportunity to get your hands on the Trigon-6 desktop module, the polyphonic power-synth that fits your studio, your music, and your life.

Specifications
Trigon-6 desktop module weighs approximately 10.9 lbs. (4.95 kg) and measures 22.00” L x 8.45” W x 4.54” H (55.88 cm x 21.46 cm x 11.53 cm).

Trigon-6 desktop module is available for pre-order now, with a US MAP price of $2,499. Shipping worldwide in August. For more information about the Trigon-6 desktop module, visit us at: https://www.sequential.com/product/trigon-6-desktop-module/

September Fifteenth synth pad on Sequential Take 5

video upload by CyberGene

"This is an attempt to recreate the synth pad played by Lyle Mays on the track called 'September Fifteenth' from the 1981 record 'As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls' by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. The synth I use is the Sequential Take 5. Not an exact recreation but kind of there. Not sure about the chords either but the task here was the synth sound rather than the exact chord progression, voicing and timing.

The patch can be downloaded here (you need to be registered to the forum):

I upgraded the Sequential TAKE 5 to version 2.0!
It sounds better to me, has more patch memory, it is worth the

spread of the voices sounds more like the OB-6 & Prophet-6
to me! Probably not any real change to the synth. It just sounds better!
