rare birds: Echolette SE-251 tape echo unit

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"This is quite a rare tape echo manufactured by Dynacord. It seems to be one of the very last tape echo introduced by the brand (with the Echolette Echo 400).

It shares many parts with the Echocord line of delays like motor, pinch roller, heads, oscillator board etc But this one useS op amps instead of only transistors for amp stages (the Echocord Super 76 also already used one op amp for the output stage).

The unit has 2 heads which you can mix with the dedicated pot. Otherwise classic features like input volume, tone, echo send level, echo feedback and echo level.

In the back the original DIN socket enabled output and aux input. In this case you only get the wet signal out of the delay, which is nice in a studio environment.

Unit was fully serviced and modded. [mods below]

I demoed it with 3 different instruments so you get a good idea of how it sounds with different sources. First is a Roland MC-202, analog mono synth, then an analog drum machine (Roland CR-78) and last an electric guitar (Squier Jagmaster, not in frame). Please note the SE-251 has no hi input impedance so I run the guitar through a DI Box first.

06:16 SQUIER JAGMASTER"

via this listing

"Unit was fully serviced and modded:

- all electrolityc caps were replaced (except 3 bipolar ones )

- original 4x op amps were upgraded to better one (TL081)

- original DIN socket was replaced by 2 jack sockets, one for the output and one for the aux input. Also a pot was added to attenuate the level for the aux input

- unit was meticulously cleaned

- heads were cleaned, demagnetized and aligned

- unit was calibrated

- tape is new"

BugBrand Introduces FilterQAmp - Filter, Amp and Decay Envelope Module in Frac Format

"

via BugBrand

"The FilterQAmp (FQA) combines a 2-pole State Variable VC Filter with a Linear VC Amplifier and an inbuilt variable-decay Envelope Generator. It is capable both of processing and, when the filter is self-oscillating, generation of synthesised sounds such as drums.

The VCF section contains a State Variable Filter (similar to my other designs) – this offers switchable Low or High Pass responses and covers the full audio range. It is temperature compensated & tracks 1V/Oct accurately. The Resonance/Q is voltage controlled with a linear response up to self-oscillation – this creates a pure sinewave, useful for synthesis.

The VCA is linear in response and takes the Low/Hi-pass output from the VCF section. It can either be set, via rear jumper, to a clean response (gain from 0 to +1) or saturation (gain from 0 to +1 then +/-5V zener clipping beyond – unity at approx 10 o’clock rotation).

The Filter, Q and Amp sections each have a CV Modulation depth control with switchable polarity (centre off) – the Filter has an additional 1V/Oct control input. In addition there is a simple variable-decay Envelope Generator which can be fired either with the manual Trig button or via the Trig input – this has a comparator so triggers on any signal over c.+1V. Decay time is variable between approx 15mS and 3Secs with an amplitude of 0 to +10V. The envelope is internally routed to modulate the Filter and Amp sections via individual depth controls – it could be manually patched to QCV with a 0.75″ shorting bar or cable.

When Q is set to full, the self-oscillating filter makes good sound generator – it can also ring when set below self-oscillation & fed with sharp edges such as gate signals. A basic drum synth can be achieved with self-oscillation and the decay envelope opening the VCA – try varying how much the envelope modulates the filter cutoff too. You can feed the main output back to the FCV input to self-modulate, resulting in an interesting peaky waveform."

Stay drum: Macro oscillator for Versio platform Sound demo

video upload by Meska

"Here a quick sound demo of Stay drum an unofficila firmware for NI Versio

This is a beta firmware !!

info and DL link : https://jasmineandolivetrees.com/page...

Thank you for watching.
My name is Meska of the statik collective . I've been making mostly "dark and expérimental" music for more than ten years now, i'v learn so much online, now it's time for me to share my knoledge, my exploration and this channel is a place to talk about the tools, sound design and techniques to make music with.

You can stream my albums and EPs at https://statikwave.bandcamp.com/

If you'd like to support the channel consider buying music from bandcamp ;)"

"Stray Drum" is a macro oscillator firmware based on FM and ring modulation for the Versio platform. This is a beta release, and it contains rough edges; even some parts of the front panel aren't in use yet, such as the audio inputs, the Trig button, and one of the switches.
The pitch input can track V/Oct after calibration. However, a calibration mechanism has not been implemented yet.
Pitch: Spans 5 octaves and can track V/Oct but requires calibration.

Spread: Introduces 2 harmonics to the root. Allows seamless adjustment between different chords and dissonant ratios, ideal for percussive sounds.

Feedback: Applies FM feedback to the operators, introducing harmonics up to noise into the base signal.

Attack: When turned to the left, it adds transitional noise that is pitch-filtered.

Decay: Provides a traditional decay effect.

Mode: Alters the modulation function applied to the base signal. It transitions seamlessly from no modulation to exponential decay to a sine wave. In the sine wave section, it can change the modulator frequency, up to a ratio of 5.

Amount: Governs the primary modulation. In exponential decay mode, moving it to the left produces ascending pitch, while moving it to the right creates a descending pitch. Extreme left and right settings select the longest pitch-shifting times. Now, switch to sine wave mode. When the amount is set to the right, it controls the degree of FM modulation. To the left, it adjusts the level of AM modulation, transitioning into ring modulation where the modulator transforms from a sine wave into a square wave.

How it sounds

With this set of controls you can shape its sound to powerful kick drums, classic snares and hihats. Percussive sounds like congas, claves, metallic objects, bells, electronic claps, etc.
It also works as a chord machine, giving a wide range of deep and obscure chords perfect for dub techno stabs. Especially when selecting a chord, apply FM to it and some reverb/delay effect."

Gimme Some (Kick) Drum by Blue Lantern Modules || Full Walkthrough and Sound Demo

video upload by Robots Are Red

"GSDrum, or Gimme Some Drum, or Gimme Some Kick Drum is a 10 hp drum synthesizer module. It really shines as a kick module, but can do other drum sounds such as toms or something out of the syncussion, or act as a bass synth tracking it 1v/oct. This is not a typical kick oscillator using the 'Twin T' approach, GSDrum uses a v/oct tracking triangle core VCO with an OTA based VCA. There is CV control for the trigger of course, along with v/oct tracking, Linear FM, and VCA accent inputs. The Timbre knob shapes the oscillator starting at a sine wave, to a triangle wave, all the way to an overdriven square wave. Influenced by the Korg ER-1 drum synthesizer. The accent input can simulate midi velocity or drive your sound even more. via Blue Lantern Reverb

"Part of the 'Gimme Some' series. Gimme Some Drum....

What does this module do?

This module is a complete mini synthesizer that specializes in making analog kick drum sounds.

This product does not use a "Twin T" approach to make it's drum kick sound. This is using an actual 1v/octave

triangle core vco, and ota based vca. The shaper circuit that converts a triangle wave into a sine wave was brought to the front panel. The shaper knob was calibrated to start its shaping at the beginning of a sine wave, and end with an overdriven square wave.

This parameter is called 'Timbre'.

This product can produce a wide variety of ultra generic analog kick drum sounds.

Influenced by the Korg ER-1 drum synthesiszer, but laid out in an analog fashion.

-toggle switches are connected to 'timing' capacitors. You can select decay legnths on the fly.

-Depth Knobs let you precisely dial in how much punch, and loudness you want.

-Accent input lets you simulate 'Midi' velocity but with a positive CV input signal. This makes the Amplifier go louder in volume.

This is basically a CV input for the VCA circuit.

-POP parameter creates a clicky sounding, short audible pulse.

All the internal circuitry was optimized for drum kick. You really can't goof up and not make a percussive sound.

All you need is a triggering signal.

Internally Pre-Patch Products: OTA Triangle Core VCO + Sine Wave Shaper + Assist Percussion Utility

Big time savings!"

Moog DFAM: Modular Grooves Patches/Patterns. No Talk Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"The new Moog DFAM soundset has been highly requested by my subscribers. The first bank, «Techno Generator», received many positive feedbacks over the past few years.
«Modular Grooves» is a collection of 50 patches + patterns: 17 Percs/Drums, 16 Basses, 17 Synths. It is dedicated to the modular vibe, loved for its analog warm sound, experimental attitude, rich opportunities, unique features and tones, and inspirational workflow.

📦 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/dfam...

💎 The presets feature various colors: noisy, detuned, distorted, as well as mild, clean, soft, punchy, dark, bright, deep, and airy.
Some timbres are great to play the first role in tracks or jams, while others will work perfectly as additional parts.
You may use the patches as they are, but I strongly recommend tweaking the knobs to develop the timbre during your performance and get an exciting experience.

📚The soundset is presented in the form of PDF-Document. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.

🎧 There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset.
To recreate these patches you need up to 3 patch cords.

💽 The soundset also includes 24/41000 WAV samples, accompanied by BPM and scale information. You can use them as they are, or you're free to resample, edit, and apply effects. These samples offer a versatile material for your experimentation.

🔔 You are listening to demo tracks featuring these presets. I've added other samples, drums and pads, to create a complete musical context. The DFAM sequences can be quite complex, producing various timbres at once, like bass and percussion. To help you distinguish, I've marked the DFAM and ADDITIONAL SOUNDS with different colors.
These ADDITIONAL SOUNDS are not included in the soundset.

Good people make for good events and good gear, so lets meet them // London Synth & Pedal Expo 2024

video upload by DivKid

"What an amazing weekend we've just had! Here's a video with some of the people at the London Synth & Pedal Expo 2024. Held over this past weekend (Saturday and Sunday the 16th+17th of March 2024) in Studio 9294 in Hackney Wick, the London Synth & Pedal Expo is a free to attend show with plenty of synths, modular and pedal FX on show for people to come and play with.

As it takes good people to make good events (and the good gear we love) I wanted to focus on the people, asking who they are and what they do, more specifically how would they explain what they do to someone with no idea about synths, pedals and music tech. That led to some funny answers, all spread around various bits of b roll and footage from the event."

Title will be availble on Bandcamp april 2024 on new EP."

"The Heritage Modular synthesizer has been designed to mimic the typical look and feel of an early 1970s modular synthesizer but with full polyphonic capabilities. The feasibility is tightly linked to the usage of digital technologies available in 2020 to DIY enthusiasts.

From a musician perspective, the system should provide the illusion of using a classical analog modular synthesizer with knobs, switches and patch cables.

The core of the synthesizer is based on Pure Data: a powerful sound engine for the generation and processing of audio signal. The underlying algorithms has been chosen for faithful emulation of analog circuitry characteristics. As the goal is to provide with hardware user experience, the Pure Data GUI is only used during the software development phase.

A dedicated set of hardware modules has been designed to act as controllers for Pure Data. These modules are populated with knobs, switches, lights and jack sockets, as for any other classical modular synthesizer. The communication between Pure Data and these hardware modules is done via an I2C bus implemented over a standard 16-pin Eurorack connector.

This project has started in July 2020 as a DIY effort, with a first version up and running in July 2022."

Cizzle: a killer Casio CZ-style voice from ALM / Busy Circuits

video upload by Tom Churchill

"Cizzle is a Eurorack synth voice from ALM Busy Circuits based around Phase Distortion synthesis, which Casio pioneered in their CZ series back in the 1980s.

It contains two digital oscillators that would typically be combined and used as one voice, but you can also use them independently. Each oscillator can produce four-note chords and has its own VCA, so all you need is an envelope or two to start using this as a complete voice.

Introducing Taiga Keyboard Expandable Analog Synthesizer

video upload by Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

"Taiga is a complete, modern, modular instrument that allows us to explore beyond the boundaries of a traditional analog synthesizer. The sound of Taiga can be attributed to three uniquely Pittsburgh innovations. A trio of huge analog oscillators, the unmistakably smooth sound of the Pittsburgh Filter, and the warmth of our Dynamics Controller. These enable us to not only create sounds that we would traditionally expect from an analog monosynth, but to also explore new sonic textures and performance possibilities.

Unique To Taiga Keyboard

Taiga Keyboard’s larger format provides the room for a few unique features. Most obvious is a full size 37 key premium keybed with velocity and aftertouch. The dedicated pitch and modulation wheels offer instant access to a unique set of modulation tools including manual control, clock sync’d LFO, envelope, and random source. 1/4 inch left and right output jacks, and full sized MIDI in and MIDI out DIN jacks are available on the rear of the instrument. The larger format also allows Taiga Keyboard to utilize larger, more spread out knobs and a second analog LFO.

Taiga Keyboard also includes a first-of-its-kind, 24hp Eurorack format modular expansion bay. The fully modular signal path of Taiga means modules can be inserted into any point of the signal path. Install a 4th or 5th oscillator into the expansion bay and create truly monster sounds. Additional filters allow for an expanded sonic palette. Add a sampler, sequencer, complex digital effects, or even a Maths. The integrated Eurorack expansion bay allows Taiga Keyboard to be customized to meet the unique needs of any artist."

2. Violin and ambience with Groc granular synth
Here we are editing sample loop points, ADSR envelope and Groc's unique "time path" to create lush sustains from a short violin clip.
3. cool fall day + warm groc tones

4. Groc - LED sequence with spatial sound
This video shows the first testing of the groc interface board, and includes the first audio demonstrations of spatial sound overlaid. Headphones recommended!
5. Groc Demo - Grain parameters
First demo of groc's grain parameters with a guitar loop as audio sample.

"Sculpt sound. Modulate everything. Do you groc?

Stunning, yes.

Slim, yes.

Powerhouse, also yes.
quad core 64-bit ARM processor
1GB RAM, 4GB of user storage
vivid DSI touch screen
cutting edge signal processing
fits in a bread box

Not like the others.

Groc demonstrates that a compact form can deliver unparalleled functionality. Access dozens of parameters in the custom granular synthesis engine with 4 grains encoders. Achieve one-of-a-kind manipulations of playback speed, shape multiple envelopes, edit audio sample crop and loop points, adjust 4 LFOs, 3 macros and morph between patches with just 8 more encoders. Add in an entire world of effects, accessed with just 4 more.
The large and vivid touch screen provides rich information and beautiful visualizations of your sounds, and enables deep functionality within just a touch or two. Is this where we mention the placard at Oddment HQ that reads, “Down with menu diving!”?

Patch without limits.

Every parameter on groc is a modulation destination, and connecting modulation sources is as easy as plugging in a patch cable (w/o the need to search in your closet).

To go with its myriad destinations, groc has a bounty of modulation sources: 4 LFOs, 4 envelopes, MIDI velocity, key tracking, polyphonic after touch and all the rest.
In the event you were hoping to use a physical patch cable, yes, you can use groc’s modulation sources to wiggle analog voltages via the 4 control outputs. Or configure them as inputs to control any of groc’s parameters with CV from your other gear, a sustain pedal or you name it.

Did you want to sequence a parameter, or draw a custom modulation curve on the touch screen? That seems reasonable and groc will support you. Do you want to connect a dozen or more modulation sources to the same parameter? That is far less reasonable, but that’s just, like, our opinion."

This synth sounds amazing and has included some hard to find chips as parts of the circuits including the original Buchla spec microphone preamp and some very hard to find SSM chips in the 258. It’s been a joy to put together and use and I hope it will go to a home where it’s appreciated. Thanks for looking!"

Retroverb Lancet: More Than Just a Spring Reverb

video upload by vermonagear

"We have several spring reverb products, but Retroverb Lancet is our most versatile. It has a multimode filter, a VCA section, and an overdrive.

For modulation sources, Retroverb Lancet has an LFO that can be synced to incoming gate signals, an envelope generator, and an envelope follower.

Do you know the typical sound of a spring reverb that has been kicked? With Retroverb Lancet, you can create that sound with the push of a button, or even trigger it with an external gate signal thanks to its unique CRASH function.

Retroverb Lancet is so flexible that it can even create percussive sounds. We made all the sounds in this video using it. If you want to learn more about Retroverb Lancet, please visit our homepage (www.vermona.com). You can also leave your comments below, and we will be happy to answer them.

via this auction

"This joint venture instrument between Roland and Ibanez is paired with the Roland GR-500 module. It was used by a multitude of artists, ranging from Neal Schon of Journey to Jeff Baxter of the Doobie Brothers and was responsible for creating some of the wildest synth guitar sounds of the late 70s and 80s.

The guitar features a hexaphonic pickup that tracks the pitch of each individual string with high accuracy, as well as a traditional humbucker pickup for producing standard guitar tones. The signal is sent through the guitar’s 24 pin output to the synth module where it can be manipulated using a multitude of VCOs VCAs filters, and effects. One of the most unique elements of the guitar is the infinite sustainer system built into the guitar. Similar to how E-bow’s work, this instrument can keep the strings vibrating as long as the player wishes.

This guitar is in excellent condition. It has only a handful of small chips/dents on the top (pictured) and the fretwear is nonexistent. Its electronics have been cleaned, the fretboard conditioned, and setup to play well at low action. The GR-500 Module has been well cared for, and is in excellent shape. Bring your guitar music to the next level with the GS and GR 500s today!

ØCHD-OBER-FEST (live event) with DivKid, Instruo & Signal Sounds // ochd expander launch party

video upload by DivKid

https://www.signalsounds.com/

"In case you missed the live stream at the time, made it but would like to watch again, or were even at the in person event itself and wish to relive the beer, pretzel and modulation good times... here's a fresh 4k HD edited version of the OCHD-OBER-FEST event that myself (DivKid), Instruo and Signal Sounds had back in October 2023 to launch the new ochd expander.

I've also just put up a new video with the case and patch that I set up for this event. This was filmed more long form and in detail when I got back home. It's a polyphonic, generative ambient piece that makes use of lots of ochd and it's expander. Check it out here // [below]

The patch that launched the OCHD EXPANDER // Polyphonic Generative Ambient Eurorack Modular

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have a detailed run down of the patch that launched the expander. I brought this case and exact patch back from my journey up to Glasgow for the OCHD-OBER-FEST live event with Instruo in Signal Sounds. We launched the ochd expander at that event and this patch was my demo for that event. Note - you can check out the live event re uploaded and editing in 4k below.

This is patch is a 4 voice, polyphonic generative ambient piece that uses 4 wavetable oscillators into 4 VCAs for heavily modulated chordal sound sources. That is then tone, drive and level modulated before feeding two FX with a novel patch routing. It's highly dynamic, from near silent quiet sections to loud sections. All that dynamism comes from ochd and the ochd expander."
