Oberheim is Back!

video upload by Oberheim Official

"You heard that right: Oberheim is back. And a new chapter is about to begin.

Brought to you by Tom Oberheim, former Oberheim engineers Marcus Ryle (co-founder of Line 6/co-creator of the ADAT) and Tony Karavidas, with Sequential’s Dave Smith and his team.

Visit oberheim.com to sign up for updates on what’s in the works.

And get ready to party like it’s 2099.

----------------------------------------------

Video Cast: Tom Oberheim, Marcus Ryle, Dave Smith, and Tony Karavidas.
Music by Julian (J3PO) Pollack"

Why this matters: in case it's not obvious, the Oberheim brand and lineage is back with the rightful owner. Moog was first, followed by Sequential, and now Oberheim. Bob Moog did business as Big Briar until he managed to secure the Moog name back. Dave Smith did business as Dave Smith Instruments until acquiring the Sequential name back. And Tom Oberheim did business as Tom Oberheim.com, until now. He now has the rights to the Oberheim brand and has the support of others to build new Oberheim products. We now have the original Moog, Sequential, and Oberheim brands back with the original legacy.

P.S. Nice coasters!

P.P.S. Curious what synth we are hearing in the trailer... :)

Update: Looks like it is indeed a new Oberheim. via @iamj3po:

"If you know me, you know how much I love synths. I could not be happier than to help announce that OBERHEIM HAS OFFICIALLY COME BACK!!! I’ve had the great pleasure and honor to work with them on the new secret sauce that will be coming out 😉 and if you want to hear it…well I composed the music for this little video, and I did the whole thing with the new instrument (except for the kick and snare, which are Oberheim DMX samples). If you like synths, and especially if you like Oberheim…this should make your day! Be sure to follow the new Oberheim IG page @oberheim_electronics … more soon ❤️"

"Both graphic and parametric eq are working great on all channels. The level control on channel 3 is intermittent and signal clips almost immediately but all other channels are working great. Rear-panel I/O are all working perfectly. All controls, indicator LEDs, and the VU meter are in perfect working order. Overall working condition is very good.

PHYSICAL CONDITION: Excellent - There are a few small nicks and dings mostly on the top panel, however, every knob and switch is intact and ready for action. In all, everything is solidly built and in excellent physical condition."

Big, Brilliant and Beautiful // Waldorf Iridium Keyboard review and demo

video upload by Starsky Carr

"A demo/review of the Waldorf Iridium Keyboard. It really is a beautiful bit of kit.. and so flexible. 5 synths in one plus a sampler - I can't really do it full justice in just over half an hour - but it's a great synth. Unlike its bigger and more expensive brother this is all digital, with a huge selection of filter types and synth engines."

TONY's TESTBENCH - Episode 1. Waldorf Microwave XT-K

video upload by Tony Drake

"Episode one of a series of reviews of synthesizers that I come across.

The first synthesizer to get the once-over is a Waldorf XT-K wavetable synthesizer which was loaned to me by Andy D'Alton, an old friend of mine who had just serviced it and replaced the power supply. He was keen for me to put it through its paces, and i was happy to oblige.

The XT-K is gritty, intuitive, and edgy. From simple classic 'analogue' sounding pads, to grungy, to bright, and lots in-between.

A great creative tool, and easy to 'tweak' to create your own original sounds.

This video is not intended to go in-depth into the workings of the synth, but more to give the viewer an overview and a first impression by creating a short musical piece using a random selection of sounds, exclusively found on the XT-K. Detailed specs can always be found online.

Donny Benét - Le Piano (Official Music Video)

video upload by Donny Benét

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

Roland TR-808 intro, followed by an ARP 2600. I'm guessing the 2600 is layered over a Yamaha CP70 mentioned below for the piano sounds? The 2600 does appear to come in for the synth solo at 3:04. The bass almost sounds synthetic. Soviet Space Child mentioned it sounds an awful lot like a MiniMoog. Whatever it is, it's fun stuff.

"It gives me great pleasure to present the first single Le Piano from my upcoming EP also titled Le Piano, coming out April 1 on Dot Dash records
After a crazy period of touring, being stuck at home for the past 2 years allowed life to slow down and gift me an extended period in my home studio.
After writing and releasing Mr Experience at the beginning of the coronavirus, I’d turned back to listening to a lot of instrumental music - Sakamoto, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Goblin, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Yanni…to name a few.
I indulged myself and bought a vintage Yamaha CP70 electric grand piano, as well as finally setting up my studio to record live drums - something that’s been on my mind for quite some time. It seemed too soon to be writing a new album straight after Mr Experience (an album which I can’t wait to perform for you in 2022) so I spent most of the time in my little room experimenting, skilling up, and enjoying the musical process once again without the pressures of deadlines and touring.
This EP is a small taste of my world from this crazy moment in time - I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

New Bragi Modular Wyrd Matrix Mixer with A Questionable Logo

New maker and new module. Note the logo resembles an older Valhalla DSP logo. Below is a message from Sean Costello of Valhalla on the matter.

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

via Bragi Modular

WYRD is a compact 4×4 matrix mixer built for performers.

The feature that sets it apart from most other matrix mixers is the performance focused offset fader at the bottom. The fader let’s you offset all four outputs (Marked A-B-C-D) with 5 volts in either positive or negative direction. This way you can set up quite complex modulation chains and then use the fader to affect all outputs. Perfect for live interaction.

WYRD is DC coupled and while it is aimed at mixing CV signals as mentioned above, it works great for audio as well. In case you want to mix audio signals, make sure to place the fader in the center. The fader has a center detent and will null in the middle position, letting you easily disengage it from the outputs.

All high quality components from mechanical parts like the pots and fader, to the electronic componets.

The panel is made of annodized, black aluminium with laser engraved graphics. This combination is very strong, the graphics will never fade or tear.

The small size for a matrix mixer and the very low power consumption makes it the perfect complex mixing source for your live or compact rig.:

Priced at €160,00

And a note from Sean Costello on Gearspace:

Hi! Sean from Valhalla here.

We need to point out that our older logo is:

- still in use
- is still in use in commerce, in the Eurorack space (as pointed out by the photo of the Z-DSP cartridge from Valhalla earlier in the thread)
- and is a registered trademark of Valhalla DSP, LLC.

The US trademark registration number of the old logo is 4681428. The newer helmet logo's registration number is 6567032.

Here's our blog post about the history of our logos. It is worth noting that the helmet logo dates back to 2002, and was first associated with the name "Valhalla" in a Reaktor ensemble from 2003.

https://valhalladsp.com/2020/06/23/s...lhalla-design/

Here's one of the listings for the Halls of Valhalla cartridge for the Z-DSP, as being actively sold on a major US modular vendor's website. Notice that the older logo is in use on this product.

https://www.controlvoltage.net/tipto...lla-for-z.html

One of the things about US trademarks is that they have to be defended in order to retain their legal status. Please consider this a polite public request to change your logo to something that does not closely resemble either of Valhalla DSP's trademarked helmet logos.

It is obvious from the public responses in this thread that people think that your current logo closely resembles our logo, and it would be best to not have the likelihood of confusion around our logo in a market that we both participate in.

Thanks,

Sean Costello

---

And and Official statement from Bragi Modular in response:

First things first: We definitely have zero bad intentions regarding this matter. We are not looking to step on anyone's toes.

A quick history of our logo and brand: We are based in Aarhus, Denmark, which has a very rich cultural heritage littered with rune stones and history related to the viking period, when the town was also founded. This is something very close to our hearts. Our logo itself is an original illustration by us, inspired by the modern depiction of a viking helmet.

We are currently considering our options and will open up a friendly dialogue with Valhalla DSP to solve this matter.

Thank you for your comments so far in this thread.

Waver - Ambient (NDLR, Waldorf M + Analog Heat, Bigsky, Timeline, Julianna, H9, Rooms, Pill Pedal)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

These were spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

"This is my 2nd video with the Waldorf - M getting in the ambient territories, after having spent a few days with this astounding wavetable synth!
I used the multitimbral mode with each of the 4 parts playing respectively the Bass, Pads, Carillon and Lead.
The 4 parts were sequenced by the Conductive Labs - NDLR which can sequence 4 tracks (which works out perfectly 😄).
I used the 4 stereo outputs of the M for this one, going through some of the coolest pedals effects I have 🤩

* Hardware used *
- Waldorf - M with the following effects for the:
- BASS: Elektron - Analog Heat Mk2 + Strymon - Bigsky
- PADS: Death by Audio - Rooms + The Pill Pedal
- CARILLON: Strymon - Timeline
- LEAD: Walrus Audio - Julianna + Eventide H9 Max"

Waves | Ambient Live Impro (Waldorf M + Death By Audio Rooms) Wavetable Multi-timbral #Jamuary2022

"Just wanted to capture and share with you the first hours I just spent discovering a new synth, the Waldorf M, 8-voice hybrid synthesizer! It's a quick live ambient jam tweaking some parameters. This synth is just 😍

I haven't read the manual yet, but managed to use the Multitimbral mode with 4 parts. Parts 2, 3 & 4 are being played by my left hand and Part 1 (arpeggio) by my right hand.

On the first part of the track, you are hearing the raw sound of the synth (without effects) and then I added some reverb with the Death by Audio Rooms pedal.

* Hardware used *
- Waldorf - M
- Death By Audio - Rooms (reverb pedal, on the second half of the track)"

Rossum SP-1200 Now in Production

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

via @rossumelectro "SP-1200 reissue units are in production!

How many Easter eggs can you spot on these circuit boards?

A continuation of Dave’s fifty-year tradition of instruments made to last, the Rossum SP-1200 reissue is expertly engineered by its original designer for decades of reliability and is built locally in the United States. Assembling and testing the instruments in close proximity to Rossum’s California headquarters allows for SP-1200’s sonic character to be delivered according to the most exacting quality standards.

On the rear of the main circuit board, users will find dedicated, balanced jacks for all filtered and unfiltered channel outputs as well as the mix output and a new sample input monitor feature.

Throughout the process of creating the SP-1200 reissue, Dave was delighted that with very few exceptions, authentic components exactly the same as those found in the vintage classic instrument could be used throughout and took great care to maintain the classic SP-12 and SP-1200 circuit board layouts. Inside and out, SP-1200 is faithful to the original operation and preserves the coveted, authentic sound and character of the classic vintage instrument. Through this labor of love, Dave was able to create an instrument that should sound exactly the same even to the most discerning ears."

Key Lean - Moog One & Roland Jupiter 4 Live ˃ Making Progressive House

video upload by Key Lean - Live Streaming & Music

"I'm a big fan of synths, live sets and travelling. And that's what my channel is about. Legendary Roland Jupiter 4, Moog One and my Virus Access is quite a good combination to make me happy for a couple of hours. Had not quite clear idea what to play, but decided to put some progressive house chords and sequences.

Added later beat section, some FXs and footage from my last trip throughout Altay, Baikal and Bashkyria. And here you go! Short video with sort of Progressive House music, plus material for potential track!

Roland Jupiter 4 is a veteran made in 1978. In such synthesizers, electrolytic capacitors "dry up" over time, as a result of which they must be well warmed up and tuned every time.

Progressive House!

Роланд Юпитер 4 - ветеран, был создан в 1978 году. У таких синтезторов со временем "подсыхают" электролитические конденсаторы, вследствие чего их надо каждый раз хорошо прогревать и настраивать."

Testing Waldorf M

video upload by Konrad Paulsen

"Yesterday i got this beauty, today i had a few hours to testdrive it for the first time. I never had a Microwave formerly, so this is my fresh take on this classic remake by Waldorf.
I already love this synth."

Kitaro 喜多郎 - Wings 翼 Cover

video upload by ltpstan

"Initially, I was inspired by the live version of 'Wings', in how Kitaro managed to improvise throughout the whole piece live amazes me when I listened for the first time. Now, this project have been left for awhile which I wanted to do for a long time, now I feel it is the right time to release it together with the improvisation. In the end, it came out quite nicely, enjoy it! Thank you!

ps: I am arranging my set up and anticipating the new miniKORG700FS (late August) to be put up above the Korg 800DV. That's why the Juno106 is at the other rack."

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

And a couple more:

Kitaro 喜多郎 - Magical Sand Dance 神秘なる砂の舞 Cover

"Another great song by Kitaro.
This rendition is between the different live versions. It includes a break in between for the continous rhythm.
This is also one of my favourites. Glad to make it into a cover.
This will be the last cover for the year as things will get busy.

Produced on Logic Pro X
Leads: Korg 800DV & Juno 106
Drums: Logic Pro X
Synth Bass: Logic Pro X
Strings: Logic Pro X
Choir: Logic Pro X
Guitar: Logic Pro X"

Kitaro 喜多郎 - Free Flight 飛翔 Cover

"I always like the 'Live in Yakushiji' version of 'Free Flight'. This version has an epic ending.
This time, I tried to attempt a short version of this song.
Most of the sounds are from the Korg 01/W: Animotion pad (combi), Choir.

There was a slight fumbling in-between the changing of sounds (800DV to 700S Square) but I did not want to cut off the video as I wanted to retain all in one shot.

Fun Fact: This Korg 800DV was one of the earlier units produced from my research. Also, the later units have the smaller logo at the right instead of the larger one, at the left side. This units does not have the Pedal connector input (VCF FK-1) like the later production units."
