Arturia Matrixbrute: Tangerine Dream Covers

Published on Sep 5, 2018 wedream2

Playlist:

1. Matrixbrute: Tangerine Dream's "Sorcerer"
11/12 tracks from Tangerine Dream's soundtrack to the movie "Sorcerer" serve as inspiration for showcasing Arturia's Matrixbrute in split mode. Each sequence is accompanied by 2 additional sounds alternately selected by modulating programmed parameters in real time. (Track 9 "Abyss" is skipped as the sequence and sounds are uninteresting compared to other tracks.)
If you are unfamiliar with Tangerine Dream's soundtrack, I recommend listening to the original first. That way you will appreciate the Matrixbrute's emulation, especially since it's a monophonic synthesizer.
2. Matrixbrute: TD sequences from Phraedra to Tangram
Another demonstration of the Matrixbrute in split mode. More excerpts from Tangerine Dream Sequences: Phraedra, Rubycon, Ricochet, Stratosfear, Cloudburst Flight, Force Majeure, and Tangram. All sounds from Matrixbrute in real time. Additional reverb added. The purpose is to show how versatile split mode can be, assigning different oscillators to the sequencer and to the lead, and using real time controls to transform the sound of the lead and sequence.
3. "Mind at Large" Tangerine Dream's Rubycon
Music slide-video interpretation of Tangerine Dream's Rubycon album. The last image (just prior to the receding universe sequence) with the unconscious astronaut lying on the ground is the clue to what the entire project is about, suggested by the title.
4. Matrixbrute: Tangerine Dream--Logos
My fourt video of Matrixbrute in split mode, borrowing sequences from Tangerine Dream. Logos is my #1 favorite TD album. It is a lot more complex than their earlier works, so it was quite a challenge. I recorded each part seperately and then pasted them together. It would take an ensemble of synthesizers to do a decent cover. Still, the monophonic Matrixbrute pulls its own weight.
5. Matrixbrute: Tangerine Dream & Chris Franke
My 5th video demonstrating Matrixbrute in split mode, using excerpts from Tangerine Dream group & solo albums. Sounds on the right side of the split are morphed using MW and expression pedal controls, demonstrating more sounds than are apparent with a monosynth. All sounds are from Matrixbrute, performed and recorded in real time. Avalanche Run reverb and delay added on some excerpts.

The Seventh Wave Festival of Electronic Music: Number Nine w/ Members of Tangerine Dream

via The Seventh Wave

"Tangerine Dream to play Birmingham …… almost!!!

Ninth Electronic Music Festival comes to Birmingham and once again it includes an all-day free electronic music event featuring talks, demonstrations, interactive sessions, synth manufacturer attendance, a room for attendees to set up and show off their synth gear and a number of free live performances!

The festival once again sees the addition of a ‘raffle’ to the all-day free event in aid of Drake Music who are the leaders in music, disability and technology.

In March of 2020 the ninth ‘The Seventh Wave Festival of Electronic Music’ takes place across three days. For a relatively small festival The Seventh Wave continues to get some of the biggest names in electronic and progressive music.
This time around you can feast your eyes (and ears!) on no less than three either current or former members of global electronic giants Tangerine Dream.

On Friday evening, the headliner is Ulrich Schnauss, who as well as being a distinguished solo performer in his own right is a ‘modern day’ member of Tangerine Dream. Ulrich will be playing a rare live set alongside the founder of Engineers, Mark Peters. On the same bill you also get psychedelic electronic rock behemoth’s Teeth Of The Sea.

On Saturday evening, the headliner is Tangerine Dream ‘bandleader’ Thorsten Quaeschning who will also play a set alongside Ulrich Schnauss in which they will perform tracks from the ground breaking “Synthwaves” album as well as material from their new album. If that wasn’t enough, there will also be a very rare solo alto flute and loops ambient set by Theo Travis of Soft Machine/Gong/King Crimson.

On Sunday, Mark Jenkins performs “50 Years of Tangerine Dream” where the instrumentation will literally go from “metal stick” to “cash register” to modern day “Synths” in an all-encompassing show.

To cap it all, the Festival finishes with Steve Jollife (who played in one of the earliest incarnations of Tangerine Dream) and he will be performing the Tangerine Dream album Cyclone ‘in-full’.

Tickets can be purchased for the individual paid events from Skiddle at
https://www.skiddle.com/groups/theseventhwave/ and for the free event which runs from 10.00 am until 5.00 pm people can just turn up on the day, stay for a few minutes, or get hooked and end up of staying all day!"

Tangerine Dream Documentary Seeks Funding on Kickstarter

Some obligatory synth spotting with their vintage Moog modulars in the video above. Hopefully the documentary will spend some time on the gear that helped them shape their music.

via Kickstarter:

"They shaped the world of music like few others did. The first feature-length documentary about Tangerine Dream.

About this project

They used synthesizers in a time when it was just a small side issue. They incorporated sounds from outer space and heartbeats in their revolutionary and unconventional sound and enriched countless classic movies with their unique soundtrack: They are TANGERINE DREAM!

We want to explore the world of Tangerine Dream for the first time in a feature-length documentary. This band became famous as one of the pioneers of electronic and experimental music worldwide. They had the desire to achieve the ultimate sound.

Our goal is to uncover the band's musical evolution, their style and their philosophy behind their art. For this reason we will depict the musical heritage of this revolutionary band and its visionary founder Edgar Froese. Furthermore we will show previously unpublished footage from Edgar's private archive.

The impressive story of ,,Tangerine Dream‘‘ will be reconstructed through several interviews with Edgar Froese’s wife Biance Froese-Acquaye, band members, close friends, befriended artists and famous collaborators.

It’s a homage to the great musician Edgar Froese and the early era of electronic music. And last but not least, it's a piece we owe them!

WHY NOW?

We were currently working on a short documentary about the German band Tangerine Dream.

During the production of this movie, founding member, Edgar Froese sadly passed away. Because of his unexpected death our perspective on Tangerine Dream did change decisively. From that moment on we didn't just want to cherish the band's career, we also wanted to portray Froese’s lifework and keep the bands and its founders legacy. In order to meet our new goals properly, we have to change from a short to a feature-length-documentary."

KARTEN Vorbestellung:
https://www.nazareth-projekt.de/karten-vorbestellung/

Website: https://www.ambient-waves-cosmic-music-festival.de

Pursuing The Dream

Uploaded on Sep 6, 2011 gregaeYT·2 videos

Some synth spotting with gregaeYT

"Three short audio sketches inspired by the music by by Tangerine Dream - part of a forthcoming live performance at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland, USA on 24 March, 2012.

"Pursuing The Dream" is for Tangerine Dream fans everywhere - the dream is alive!"

Some additional details from Greg:

"Viewing Suit & Tie Guy’s recent post on the deconstruction of Tangerine Dream’s 'Love On a Real Train' got me thinking about my own attempt at this song last year. That song was done as a part of a live performance called 'Pursuing the Dream' held on March 24, 2012, at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland, USA:

The museum performance was loosely based on a video of TanDream sketches that was created some six months prior. Although there’s no audio from the museum show, the video of the original sketches can still be viewed on YouTube

All of the instruments that appear in the video were used in the recording, although they show up in a somewhat random order. For anyone interested in the specifics, I didn’t document the instruments that were used, but I do recall the following:

For ‘Stratosphere’, a Kurzweil K2500 and Voyager provided the lead sounds. I believe the sequence was also done with the Voyager.

For ‘Purple Waves’, a Yamaha FS1R module played the underlying Harp sequence, while a Yahama CS15 provided the lead, a Kurzweil PC3 produced the fretless bass, and a Roland V-Synth (with a D-50 card) provided a bit of ornamentation.

Finally, for ‘Love On a Real Train’, a Doepfer Dark Energy module (processed through a E-H Small Stone Phaser) played the sequence from a Future Retro Mobius sequencer, while the PC3 and Korg Karma produced the various bass, pad and electric piano sounds.

Other instruments, including the Prophet 08 and Creamware Prodyssey ASB, were also pressed into service at various points."

Against The Clock: Tangerine Dream

FACTmagazine

"Against The Clock is a series where we give an artist 10 minutes in the studio and see what they come up with.

Tangerine Dream is one of the most enduring electronic acts of the 20th century. Formed by Edgar Froese in 1967, the act went through multiple iterations but came to define a generation of ambient and new age music whose influence can still be heard on film scores and synth albums today.

Although Froese died in 2015, the band still performs under the stewardship of Thorsten Quaeschning, who joined the band under Froese in 2003. On this episode of Against The Clock, Quaeschning is joined by Hoshiko Yamane and Ulrich Schnauss, who combine synth, violin and guitar to make a track in 10 minutes.

Tangerine Dream’s latest album, Recurring Dreams – a collection of new versions of classic Tangerine Dream tracks – is available now.

SYNTH-WERKS SW3P Demos by Open Video Medien Labor

SW3P OsciMeditation ( Freitag Drone ) from Open Video Medien Labor on Vimeo.

"In 1969 Robert Arthur Moog transformed his mighty and complex 3C studio synthesizer system – due to popular demand – into a stage ready tryptich of extraordinary beauty and sonic superiority. No wonder the roadworthy Tolex covered 3P rose immediate attention among artists worldwide, and therefore found its way into the hands of artists like George Harrison and bands like The Rolling Stones or Tangerine Dream.

One of the most famous 3P users of all time and pioneering founder of the berlin school, Klaus Schulze, bought his system in 1975 from German Artist Florian Fricke and used it for several years for live performances as well as studio recordings. Kindly dedicated to Klaus, we considered it is about time to reengineer and resurrect this wonderful instrument to the very last detail to bring back the authentic sound and feel of this highly sophisticated beauty.

With greatest respect to the spirit of the old Trumansburg days, there will be a pristine model but no such thing as a stock 3P-2020, since everything remains customizable to your very own personal taste.

The Quantum Key EP preceded Quantum Gate and both delivered an updated, contemporary development of their trademark sound: sequencer-driven electronica covering a wide range of moods and atmospheres from ambient soundscapes to energetic, upbeat moments.

The Quantum Years material began as a concept and series of musical sketches by Froese before he passed away in 2015. Remaining band members Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane worked together to realize Edgar's visions and expectations of a conceptual body of work that attempts to translate quantum physics and philosophy into music.

Tangerine Dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic and progressive music since their formation in West Berlin, 1967. Inspiring genres, musicians and other art forms, from The Future Sound of London to Porcupine Tree, the widely popular TV show Stranger Things (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game Grand Theft Auto V (for which they helped to write the soundtrack).
