Using Arturia's MiniBrute 2S with VCV Rack

Premiere in progress. Started 7 minutes ago Omri Cohen

"So in this video, I look at a few ways you can use the MiniBrute 2S with VCV Rack like sequencing the MiniBrute with VCV Rack, processing the audio from VCV Rack in through the MniBrute, and also, of course, sequence VCV Rack with the very deep sequencer of the MiniBrute. Actually, this sequencer has other extra tracks you can use for sequencing VCV Rack differently than the MiniBrute itself... So thank you Arturia for sending me this beautiful machine!

Hyphae - Eurorack, VCV Rack, Midilar, Keystep Pro

Omri Cohen

"Here it the sound pack from Jogging house I used here - https://jogginghouse.bandcamp.com/alb...
The WAV file for this performance is available on my Patreon page - https://www.patreon.com/posts/40011678

Here are some patch notes:
--------------------------
- One Freak with the Vraids firmware (based on Braids) is being sequenced from the Keystep Pro, and going into another Freak with a LP filter. From there it's going to Microcell in Granular mode.
- There are a few samples from Jogging House loaded in Arbhar, and the Scan and Layer are being modulated by the 1U Noise Tools module. Arbhar is going through Flame in VCV Rack and I control the mix with the Midilar controller.
- There's a recording of the Felt Instruments Cello in the Morphagene, which is going through Magneto in Shift mode.
- There are 2 separate piano loops recorded on Lubadh, which has the length pretty low, and both starting points are modulated from VCV Rack. The sound is going into VCV Rack through Chronoblob 2 and I'm controlling the Wet and Hold function with the Midilar controller.
- The Keystep Pro is sequencing also the Basimilus, which is going through LedRover and the Mimeophon.
- There's a sample of a woman speaking about Fungi loaded on the Nebulae, and the Speed control is being modulated from VCV Rack. it's going through the Disting in stereo reverb mode, and from there it's going through the Chronoblob 2 in VCV Rack, and I'm controlling the wet function with the Midilar Controller.
- In VCV Rack, Plaits set in Particle Noise mode and it's going to the 2HP Freez, which is being modulated and triggered from VCV Rack.
- There's also a drum loop in VCV Rack that's going to Clouds, also in VCV, in Looping Delay mode.
- The Keystep Pro is sequencing another voice in VCV Rack with Interzone from Valley, and I control its filter, noise level, sub-oscillator level, decay time, and release time with the Midilar controller. Interzone is going through another Chronoblob and another Freak (in VCV), and from there to some reverb.

5 Glitchy patchlets with the Strymon Magneto

Omri Cohen

"If you like what I do and want to support my work, consider joining me on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

I also created a document full of patching techniques and ideas that I will continue updating - https://www.patreon.com/posts/documen...

00:00 - Patch 1
01:04 - Patch 2
02:39 - Patch 3
03:37 - Patch 4
04:39 - Patch 5

Here are some patch notes:
----------------------------------------------

Patch 1:
---------------
- I have a drumbeat in VCV going to Magneto.
- I'm modulating the Speed, the Loop, the Repeats, and the Spring reverb of Magneto with S&H from VCV Rack.
- I also have a sequence in VCV, sequencing the Basimilus, which is then going back into VCV for some delay.

Patch 2:
--------------
- I'm triggering and modulating the Basimilus from VCv Rack, sending it to the Mimeophon.
- From there it's being copied once to the mixer, and once to Magneto.
- I'm modulating the Speed, Spring reverb, Hold, and Revers functions of Magneto with S&H from VCV.
- This is then going through Freak set to wave folder and saturation model for extra grit.

Patch 3:
--------------
- I have the clock outputs of Magneto triggering the Basimilus and a couple of hats in VCV Rack so by changing the speed, the rate in which they're being triggered also changes.
- This is going into Magneto and I'm modulating the Hold, Revers, and Spring reverb with S&H.
- I also have the send and return of Magneto going to a bandpass filter on Freak, and I'm modulating the cutoff point.
- In VCv Rack, I have a drumbeat to accompany the chaos.

Patch 4:
--------------
- I have a sequence in VCV Rack sequencing the Basimilus.
- Magneto is set to Loop mode and I recorded a few seconds of this sequence onto it.
- I'm also sending Magneto through Freak in low pass mode, and the Mimeophon for some delay and reverb.
- In VCV I have S&H modulating the Revers function of Magneto, the Shift, and also the cutoff point of Freak.
- I also have a Hi-Hat sequence running in VCV Rack.

Patch 5:
---------------
- I have Magneto self-oscillating with the repeats all the way up.
- The CLK 1 output of Magneto is triggering the Play function, and I have also a clock from VCV Rack, clocking Magneto.
- I have an AD envelope in VCV controlling the Wet so it's like controlling a VCA, and I have multiple S&H signals coming from VCV modulating the Shift function, the Speed (so the pitch), and the amount of Spring reverb.
- I'm sending Magneto into Microcell with the Mix all the way down so I'm just using its reverb, but I'm modulating its amount from VCv Rack.
- I have also a copy of the left channel of Magneto going into the 2HP Freez for some extra glitch.
- In VCv Rack I have some drums playing, and I'm sending the Snare drum to a short modulated delay."

https://vcvrack.com/SynthesisTechnology

Patch created by Simon Bader. https://linktr.ee/circadiansound

The Synthesis Technology E340 is a super-saw/sine oscillator capable of generating up to 8 waveforms per output. If you want massive bass and lead voices like the JP-8000 supersaw, or thick ambient drones as if played from a slow rotary speaker, the E340 is the perfect audio source for your synth patches.

Detune the swarm of oscillators using SPREAD or with randomly filtered noise using CHAOS and CHAOS BW (bandwidth). Reset the phase of all waveforms using the SYNC trigger input, which can use another oscillator to produce a sync-lead sound.

This module supports VCV Rack’s polyphonic cables, so with 16 voices, you can generate a total of 128 waveforms per output.

This VCV Rack software module uses the original firmware from the hardware Synthesis Technology E340 module.

Undertow - Mimeophon, Morphagene, VCV Rack, O Coast, Neutron

Published on Nov 3, 2019 Omri Cohen

"'I've recorded a whole session and all I got is this stupid thumbnail'... Yeah, I was stupid enough to delete the wrong folder so all the footage I got left is this one picture I took so unfortunately, there's no video of the performance this time. Anyway, I also sing a bit in this one and the lyrics are from Undertow by Leonard Cohen. It was all recorded live and there are some patch notes further down. Here are the lyrics:

I set out one night
When the tide was low
There were signs in the sky
But I did not know
I'd be caught in the grip
Of the undertow
Ditched on a beach
Where the sea hates to go
With a child in my arms
And a chill in my soul
And my heart the shape
Of a begging bowl

and also the VCV Rack patch file - https://www.patreon.com/posts/31282704

Patch notes:
-----------------------
- In VCV Rack I have Rainbow (4ms SMR) going into Clouds creating this organic pad.
- I've used the Make Noise Mimeophon as a synth voice and played it with the Keystep, recording it into a looper in VCV Rack.
- Rainbow is also sending pitch information to the Wave oscillator from Blamsoft for another layer of the pad.
- In VCV Rack I have the NoteSeq from JW sending 8 notes to a sequential switch and from there to the O Coast. So the O Coast is playing this fast arpeggio that I bring in and out at certain times and it's going through Chronoblob 2 in VCV Rack for a nice ling delay.
- For the bass, I'm using Basal from Vult and the Neutron, using another sequential switch to send different notes sequentially. The Neutron is also going through Chronoblob 2 and Plateau in VCV Rack.
- I'm recording my voice with the Zoom H6 directly into the Morphagene so as soon as I'm done singing, the Morphagene plays back the mangled version. I didn't have any more inputs in VCV Rack left for the Morphagene so I had to send it directly to the DAW and add some reverb and such there, but it was recorded live with the patch itself.
- The same Note Sequencer is sending another arpeggio to an FM voice with a couple of FM-OPs in VCV Rack."

You can get the WAV file and Stems on my Patreon page - https://www.patreon.com/posts/33230905
And the VCV Rack patch file -

Here are some patch notes:
----------------------------------------
- I'm recording to the different buffers of Arbhar using its internal contact mic, and Arbhar is going through the Mimeophon.
- I'm sending the trigger output of Arbhar to trigger the Mimeophon so there's a change in the Mimeophon's clock rate.
- The trigger output of the Mimeophon is triggering its Flip function, and I'm also splitting the EOSG of the Morphagene once to trigger the Hold function of the Mimeophon, and once to trigger the grains on the Microcell.
- I'm also sending S&H from VCV Rack to modulate the Zone and Rate of the Mimeophon.
- With the Keystep, I'm playing chords from a voice in VCV Rack, which is going through Chronoblob 2 and reverb.
- I have my Zoom recorder connected to the Morphagene, and with it I'm recording my flute.
- The Morphagene is going to the Microcell in granular mode, and its CV output is modulating the grain size so the louder the sample, the bigger the grain size.
- I'm sending S&H from VCV Rack to modulate the Gene Size and Slide, and I'm sending another S&H from VCV Rack to trigger the Hold function of the Microcell.
- I have another voice in VCV Rack, this arp, that I'm playing also with the Keystep, but on a different Midi channel, and I'm controlling its level with the VCMC.
- After recording to all 6 buffers on Arbhar, I'm switching to the Omega position and another S&H from VCV Rack is scanning through the buffers.
- All of the S&H modules in VCV Rack are being triggered by random triggers.

- I also control the levels of a few voices and start and stop the recording on the Looper with the Minilar.
- The MiniBrute 2S is in charge of the bass, and I have it going also to VCV Rack through a HP filter and through Chronoblob2.
- I'm recording the Triangle directly to the Morphagene with the Zoom recorder, and I modulate Morphagene with the S&H from the Neutron.
- There's another sample playing from VCV Rack in Simpliciter from nysthi.
- Everyting is synced from a clock in VCV Rack."

Neutron & BeatStep Pro & VCV Rack - First Patch

Published on Jan 15, 2019 Omri Cohen

Integration of software & hardware modular.

"So this is literally my first patch with the Neutron and BeatStep pro, combined with VCV Rack. I was still not so sure how to sync the BeatStep with VCV Rack, so what I've done is, I set the same BPM in both VCV Rack and on the BeatStep Pro, and sent the Start trigger via MIDI from the BeatStep to trigger the Reset function on the clock module I've used in VCV Rack, Clocked from Impromptu Modular. So every time I started the sequence, Clocked would reset and since both Clocked and the BeatStep are set to the same BPM, both sequences were in sync. This is, of course, not the ideal way of doing this, and I hope to record soon a proper video on how to sync VCV Rack with the BeatStep Pro. Anyway, the BeatStep is sending CV to the Neutron, controlling the pitch of both oscillators separately and triggering its envelope, and the velocity function is modulating the cutoff point of the filter. The Neutron is going directly to my DAW, which is Reaper, and the different voices from VCV Rack are also being sent to Reaper, each voice to its own track. I use also the Midilar to control a few modules in VCV Rack, having hands-on experience also in this department."

Here are some patch notes:
------------------------------------------------
- The Morphagene is playing a sample of a field recording I got from a friend.
- I have a sort of a pad sound built on the MicroFreak, and it's going through LedRover for some crunch and it goes also into VCV Rack for some reverb and delay.
- I've recorded a piano from Felt Instruments into the Magneto in looper mode.
- I also have a recording of my flute on Arbhar, and I'm using its built-in reverb.
- In VCV Rack, I have some drums programmed, and they go through ReduXer and Microcell in Beat Repeat mode for some glitchy sounds.
- The O Coast is being sequenced by the Keystep, and it's going through the Mimeophon.
- The Neutron is sending 2 waves to Freak from Vult, and from there is goes to some delay and reverb. It's being sequenced from within VCV Rack also.
- The Keystep is set to Kbd Play so I can play another voice in VCV Rack on a different Midi channel.
- There's also a kick drum coming from VCV Rack.
- I'm also sending the clock from VCV Rack and splitting it to clock the Keystep, clock the O Coast, and clock the Mimeophon. "

"Here are some patch notes:
--------------------------
- I recorded a short loop with Janso from Felt Instruments into Morphagene, and this is going directly to the mixer.
- I also recorded it into Arbhar, which is going through Flame, the analog distortion model on Freak from Vult.
- I have a sample of The Hollow Men by T.S Eliot on Nebulae, which is playing it back slower and it's also going through a tape delay on the Disting, which is being modulated by S&H from VCV Rack. I also modulate the Size function from VCV Rack.
- The Basimilus is being triggered by the 1U Noise Tools from Intellijel, and it's going the LedRover from VoicAS and the Mimeophon from Make Noise.
- I have another Freak loaded with the Vraids firmware (dual Braids), and one channel is set to PRTC mode and the other to NOIS. The PRTC is going to the 2HP Freez module, which is being triggered and modulated from VCV Rack, and the NOIS is going to the Microcell.
- I recorded the Cello from Felt Instruments into Magneto from Strymon, which is in Shift mode so it adds overtones to the sample.
- I recorded a short sequence from VCV Rack with an FM voice into the first channel of Lúbadh, which is playing it back in reverse, and I'm modulating the Start function from VCV Rack.
- I also recorded another voice from VCV Rack, a PD voice, into the second channel of Lúbadh , and it's playing it back slower.
- I'm in love with Lúbadh... "

5 Ambient Patchlets with the Basimilus Iteritas Alter

Published on Jun 3, 2020 Omri Cohen

"If you like what I do and want to support my work, consider joining me on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

I also created a document full of patching techniques and ideas that I will continue updating - https://www.patreon.com/posts/documen...

Here are some patch notes:
------------------------------------------------
Patch 1 - 00:00
--------
- I'm triggering the Basimilus with the pulse output of the 1U Noise Tools module, and I'm increasing the rate until I get a constant tone.
- I'm sending THIS to Microcell in Granular mode with lots of reverb.
- In VCV Rack I have the Black Octasource from Erica Synths modulating the harmonics, decay time, and morph of the Basimilus.

Patch 2 - 02:07
--------
- I'm sequencing the Basimilus from VCV Rack with a random sequence.
- I'm multing the Basimilus once into the Mimeophon, and once into Microcell in the Oliverb mode.
- The Rate of the Mimeophon is being modulated twice, once with S&H, and once through the micro input with an LFO.
- I've also recorded the Basimilus into the Morphagene a bit, and I'm playing the sample an octave lower and in revers.

Patch 3 - 03:12
--------
- I'm sequencing the Basimilus with Marbles in VCV Rack.
- It's then going into Magneto in shift mode so it creates those additional notes.
- It then goes into the Microcell for some extra reverb, and from there to Freak with a distortion model.
- I'm also modulating the morph control of the Basimilus with S&H, as well as the reverse function on Magneto.

Patch 4 - 05:04
--------
- I'm sending an arpeggio from VCV Rack to sequence the Basimilus, and it's going through LedRover.
- The signal is being multed into 3 different destinations: Once into the Microcell for some reverb, once into Freak with a HP filter and from there to the Mimeophpon, and once into Arbhar, which continuously records the signal and processes it.

Patch 5 - 07:11
-------
- I'm using a burst generator in VCV Rack to sequence the Basimilus.
- I recorded it onto Arbhar, and I have its built-in reverb on wet to it creates this nice pad.
- I also recorded a short sequence onto Magneto, and I'm playing it one octave lower. I'm also triggering its revers function randomly from VCV Rack.
- I'm also modulating the harmonic, fold, and morph functions of the Basimilus with an LFO in VCV Rack, built after Ochd from DivKid and Instruo.
- The Basimilus is then going through the Mimeophon for delay and Microcell for extra reverb.

"If you like what I do and want to support my work, consider joining my crew on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

Here it is on Spotify, iTune, and more - http://bit.ly/distrotwines
You can get the WAV file and stem files on my Patreon page - https://www.patreon.com/posts/33819007
And also the VCV patch file - https://www.patreon.com/posts/33884605

Here are some patch notes
--------------------------
- I've recorded my guitar into Arbhar and Morphagene.
- I have the built-in reverb of Arbhar set to Wet, and it's going into VCV Rack for some saturation with Debriatus from Freak.
- Morphagene is going through Magneto for some tape warmth and it's being modulated by the Noise Tools from Intellijel.
- In VCV Rack, I have an FM arpeggio that I sequence with the Keystep, and fade in and out with the nanoKontrol.
- I also have some drums going on in VCV Rack, and I send them to the Microcell in BeatRepeat mode, and from there to the Mimeophon.
- I'm triggering Microcell with the random clock of the Noise Tools module, which I'm also using to modulate the Rate of the Mimeophon.
- The EOSG output of the Morphagene is triggering the Flip function of the Mimeophon.
- In VCV Rack, I have another voice that I'm playing with the Keystep into a looper.
- I'm also recording my flute into a looper in VCV Rack."
