Generative Ambient music in Ableton Live (free project file) | generative music for studying

video upload by CNTR RNDM

"Stumbled on this amazing @ANDREW HUANG modular twinkle jam (link below) the other day and it inspired me to try and achieve something similar in Ableton Live. Ableton is really great when it comes to generating and manipulating midi notes. It provides you with all these tools that let you manipulate midi events in so many ways. In fact, you could say that Ableton, at least kind of, is a / is like a modular synthesizer. @Seed to Stage has a really great tutorial on this topic (link below).
So, for this jam, I basically just used three instances of Wavetable (one for the lower notes, one for the mid notes, and one for the higher notes) and a TON of Ableton's midi fx to create and edit midi events, like, randomly. I also used @Ned Rush s probability tool (link below) to modulate note probability over time, you know, just to create some movement. And to top it off, I used the amazing Microtuner to create kind of a microtonal-I'm-a-bit-tipsy kind of vibe.
And the cool thing is, you can download the stock plugin version of the project file for free…have fun with it! Here's the link:
https://cntrlldrndmnss.gumroad.com/l/...

(little sidenote: this generative patch is BY NO MEANS perfect...I should have limited the range of the high notes here and there for example...so please tweak it, improve it, do whatever you like and make it your own!!!)

While we're at it, why don’t you grab my free drums sample pack as well:

Pico modules Erica Synths in action

video upload by Dziam Bass

"That's why I still like Pico modules from Erica Synths .
I have drums and a nice synth sound with VCO2 and I added Pico Voice- wavetable module.
I connected waves from VCO and Voice to Pico A Logic - these are different sums of SUM / DIFF / MAX and MIN and gives different exponential
Playing with VCF 3 and adding Voice wavetable on different prests produces different effects .for me very cool 😉
I have given all to Fusion mixer for adding Tube sounds.
That sounds good to me and of course fun ...!!!
Drums from Pico Drums are also a kick in the ass.
Thanks for watching and have a nice day.
Cheers"

Jam 76.1 Doepfer MS-404 and TR-8 #Electro Jams

video upload by Erhalder

"The Dopefer MS-404 MIDI Analog Synthesizer was developped and produced around 1994 by Dieter Doepfer. It is a nice monophonic synth. The drums are shaped by a Crayon Full Range Overdrive. It's a nice overdrive as it won't cut as much high and low frequencies as other overdrives do, I guess that's why it is marketed as "full range". The 404 is fed through a Boss RV70 Digital Stereo Reverb, also produced in 1994.

free PO-33 kit: 80s drums (works for PO 133 as well)

video upload by CNTR RNDM

"I'm an 80s kid…and, dude, in my opinion, - even if I sound like an old fart now - there was no better time to be a kid than the 80s (and the 90s, maybe). I mean, dude, I spent my Saturdays lying on the floor of our living room making mixtapes. My parents had this huuuuuuge record collection and I would spend hours on end going through these records…Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, Prince, all that good stuff, you know. I mean, how cool is that? And I remember being all hyped up because my parents let me watch Wrestlemania 5…dude, Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage…can it get any better? And I sat there wearing both my Hulkamania shirt and my WW(F|E) Championship belt waving this silly foam finger in my dad's face like there was no tomorrow. Those were the days, my friend! Nintendo released the NES, Michael Jackson's Thriller came out, endless summer nights, countless barbecues…dude, seriously, how awesome were the 80s?

To honour this amazing decade, I made this PO-33 80s drum kit consisting of 15 one shot drum hits and 3 drum loops. I really just sampled a bunch of my old drum machines and layered the samples in Ableton to…well just because😂

You can download the FREE backup file here: https://cntrlldrndmnss.gumroad.com/l/...

PO-33 KO! How to Data Transfer!

video upload by Ollie Loops

"In this chapter of our series on the Teenage Engineering PO-33 KO!, we take a look at one of the more interesting features of the KO, the ability to data transfer to and from the unit. The KO has a feature where connecting a stereo 1/8" to 1/8" cable between the unit and an audio recorder allows you to download all of the samples and patterns in the unit. This allows you to swap samples and patterns without loosing your work. You then have a back up of your work. You can also transfer files directly between two KOs. Note: this also applies to the other Pocket Operators in the Metal Series, the PO-32 and PO-35.

Here is a direct link to the WAV file:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Zeiv...

It is super important to get the right audio format when you record the data transfer. It must be a stereo 16 bit 44100 hz file format or better. The recording will likely fail if you deviant from this format."

New KORG Volca FM2 w/ 6 Voice Polyphony, Reverb, MIDI OUT

Meet the new volca fmvideo upload by Korg

Update: Street price appears to be $169.99. See the dealers on the right for availability.

"The new volca fm is poised to bring unprecedented possibilities to your setup, studio, or anywhere you choose to make music, with double the voices of its predecessor, additional effects, expanded MIDI connectivity, and an intuitive interface. This next generation volca fm features a powerful 6-voice, 6-operator FM synthesizer with all 32 classic algorithms, a 16-step loop sequencer, effects, and a powerful arpeggiator all in the portable, unbeatable form factor of the volca!"

New Korg Volca FM 2: Next Generation FM Synthesizer - Sound Demo
video upload by Korg Australia

"The next-gen volca fm is a powerful 6-voice, 6-Operator FM synthesizer with all 32 classic algorithms, a 16-step loop sequencer, effects and a powerful arpeggiator that perfectly reproduces the sound of the classic Yamaha DX7 and is completely compatible with SYS-EX patches for the DX7 as well.

With 6 voices (instead of the 3 of its predecessor) the new volca fm brings a new world of harmonic possibilities to your production. It is possible to play, sequence or arpeggiate complex chords with up to 6 voices in order to bring a unique flavor to your music production. No more running out of voices when sequencing melody, harmony and bass all in one device! Moreover, the new volca fm is now velocity sensitive via MIDI, when coupled with its 6-voice polyphony, provides a much more expressive and nuanced playing experience than ever before.

By popular request, volca fm includes a lush Reverb effect in addition to the Chorus effect. Each of these two effects can be used and adjusted individually to add the finishing touch to any FM sound you are going for.

In addition to MIDI IN the new volca fm also includes a MIDI OUT (IN/OUT 3.5 mm TRS), making it possible to use the intuitive volca internal sequencer to control other devices through MIDI, making it the perfect addition to your standalone setup. Of course, it also works well with your DAW of choice thanks to note, control, and clock receipt via the MIDI IN.

volca fm also incorporates a motion sequence function to record in real time all the subtle nuances of your playing and knob movements, letting you add time-varying change to the sound. This is a great way to polish your loops, and also lets you generate highly original live performances."

Synthmata online editor

"In collaboration with Oscillator Sink, old and new volca fm users can use the completely free online editor to easily modify their patches; no installation required.

Synthmata includes an 'intelligent randomizer' which allows you to describe the type of sound you want using 11 sound-quality sliders, Synthmata can then generate infinite patches to help spark your creativity."

Korg Volca FM2: A Tiny, Powerful Existential Crisis
video upload by Red Means Recording

"Korg has released an update to the Volca FM, this time with more polyphony, a reverb, and other quality of life enhancements. It still made me feel weird. This video explains why. To be fair: I think this is a really cool synth. FM is a great and expressive synthesis method, and 6-OP FM is really capable. I just wish some things had been done differently."

FREE PO-33 KIT: TB-303 Acid sample kit | for Teenage Engineering PO-33 & PO-133

video upload by CNTR RNDM

"Hey, my name is Christian and I have a confession to make...I love ACID music! Over the past few years, I was involved in quite a few acid projects, such as 303 Addict, Stoney Broke Weirdos, Acid Traxx...blah, blah, who cares, right? Anyway, boomer-mode on: when I started out making acid techno, it was all about tracksuits, warehouse raves, you know all that good stuff. However, for me, acid-clubbing was never about taking pills or drinking till you pass out or whatever...I always wanted to know what gear the live acts were using, how they were performing and stuff. I always hated polished disco stuff...I was all about this raw, unpolished, acidy kind of stuff. And you know what? I still remember the first real acid gig I went to, the night I fell in love with acid music, so to say...I don't know which year it was or anything but - nevertheless - I have a super vivid memory of that particular night. So I and a couple of my mates went to this super tiny club in Duisburg called Chism (RIP Chism♥️)...we had heard good things about it but we had never been there...anyway, when we arrived, there was an old man giving out glowsticks and I was like "ok, that's weird but hey, who doesn't love glowsticks, right?"...anyway, we went in and the club was jam-packed, sweat was dripping from the ceiling, the crowd was super rowdy and aggressive (but in a positive way) and Robert Babicz aka Rob Acid was tearing the flipping walls down...it was bloody amazing...so, there was no stage or anything...he had all this gear like in the middle of the dancefloor on a folding table and there was nothing but chaos and mayhem around him...I don't know how he felt that very moment but he looked super cool and calm and played this awesome live set! Thanks for this memory Herr Babicz, Na Zdrowie! Kocham cię, mój przyjaciel!

Ok, I'm going off on a tangent here...sorry about that. You're probably here for the PO-33 kit so let me tell you a bit about it. For this PO-33 kit, I recorded both 303 loops and one-shots using Roland's TB-3 and D16's AMAZING Phoscyon plugin. The one-shots all come from the TB-3 and have been stored in the drum banks. The first two drum banks are arranged as follows:
Pads 1-4, C, all one-shots varying in intensity
Pads 5-8, D, all one-shots varying in intensity
Pads 9-12, G, all one-shots varying in intensity
Pads 12-16, A, all one-shots varying in intensity

The one-shots in the last drum bank have been arranged randomly.

"Starfield Bound" - Akai MPC X / DAWless MIDI performance

video upload by Patrick Manderson

"'Starfield Bound' - was recorded live early Sunday morning on January 16, 2022 using a MIDI sequencer, 4 mixers, outboard compressors and a room full of synthesizers. This music originated from a shorter music sequence that later evolved to what is here now. For several weeks I considered breaking it up into 2 separate pieces sharing the same theme and later left decided to keep it as is. I'm still not sure it was a good idea to keep it as one.

The MPC X was used to compose and arrange all the MIDI data and control all the synths during recording. Most of the modulations were made with note velocities. Many parts were controlled with continuous controller messages. This is my second piece of music composed on the Akai MPC X and despite the complexity of all the automation and modulations, working with it at this level was very easy and comfortable. Much more so than the Yamaha RS-7000.

The Oberheim Matrix 1000 and Korg Minilogue XD provided the primary sonic textures for Startfield Bound - aided by the wonderful percussion textures of the Boss DR-660. A custom kit was mapped meticulously so accomodate layering of sounds using the pitch, decay and nuance parameters. All 4 outputs were used and careful consideration on routing the sounds to each of the 4 channels on the Soundcraft GB4.

The Roland JX-08 and ASM Hydrasynth were added late in the development of the music. I am really impressed with the sound of both, especially the JX-08.

During the summer of '21 a pair of new mixers were added to the room. The Soundcraft GB4 and a Allen & Heath MixWizard WZ3 replaced my aging Mackie 1604 VLZ3 which had nothing technically wrong with it, but it drove me crazy there were no eq disable switches on the channels.

Why two mixers? I would have preferred a single larger frame (24 or 32 channel) console but I don't have the physical space for it. Two smaller mixers works out great better for the room.

Roland Cloud JV 1080 "Planet JV" Soundset 126 Presets

video upload by LFOstore

"The legendary Roland JV-1080 synthesizer is back with virtual Roland Cloud version!

Buy: https://lfo.sellfy.store/p/roland-clo...

Back to 1994 JV was one of the most powerful digital modules with its flexible engine &
beautiful sound combined with great set of effects & drums.

Why its so cool?

Cause besides pianos, bells, cowbells & cheesy accordions, GM applause and Bang! presets - its capable to create great analog sounds, the deepest ambient textures, great moving sequences.

Its like a hardware “Omnisphere” synth with huge effort.

So – what was our first desire when we get our black box?
To create our own soundset for the legend with modern approach ofcourse!

So here it is: “Planet JV” Soundset by LFO.store team: Nick Klimenko & Kirill Polikashin.

126 presets splitted on:

* Vintage analog-like basses & modern digital wavetable * Vintage & Modern leads (yes, Klaus Schulze spirit also there)

* Deepest ambient pads, space drones & tonal soundscapes

* Modern sequences you never heard or seen before on JV

* Beautiful bells, plucks & rhytmic structures

* Fx's with modular approach (cause, why not?)

* Great emulations of classic legends: Moog, Jupiter, JX-series, CS & others.

Enjoy the sounds and rediscover JV world with our soundset!

Our video demo shows almost 50 presets from soundset combined with drum samples & beautiful nature, so take your time, breathing slowly, take your hands out of rewind button ;-)"

Why This Rare Soviet Drum Machine Still Kicks in 2022

video upload by

"When I first saw the Formanta UDM, also know as Rokton, I was intrigued - a Simmons-like drum synthesizer with cheesy preset rhythms? Add to that the typical Soviet "they make tanks here too" look and I knew I had to explore it. I was surprised by how bleepy and klonky it sounded once I turned of the preset drums. It has the energy of early Warp and Rephlex records, with a dusty and dry tone that yet goes low. The integrated rhythms became suddenly amazing, as I programmed the sounds to be different. I never heard a tango like that from a preset.

Sadly, I could not learn much about the history of this machine. There are just a few pages on it out there, so I hope this video can be start for more information. For me, I set the goal to visit all the Soviet production sites, once the world is traversable again, and find out more. Drop any info you have below, I am very curious to learn more and apologize for any factual errors I might have made."

Modbap Osiris and the Power of Wavetables (Demo and Walkthrough)

video upload by Red Means Recording

"The Modbap Osiris Bi-Fidelity Wavetable Oscillator melts my face clean off. In this video, I'll show you why. I'll also show you how to make your own wavetables for it using OSIRISedit!"

4 Performances with the Modbap Osiris

video upload by Red Means Recording Ambient

"These are performances I created to get to know the Modbap Osiris Wavetable Oscillator for my main walkthrough video.

Patch notes:
Osiris is getting sequencing from Rene. Rene is sequenced by Metron. Metron also provides triggers to everything else in the rack, including Maestro. Maestro is run through 3 sets of Navigators which provide modulation to Osiris. Osiris is run through XAOC Minsk and Zagrezeb. The sub out of Osiris goes into the HexVCA and gets an envelope from the Quadigy. The big reverb stuff is Morphagene run through Starlab. Drums are the VPME QD run through Ruina Versio and then into Desmodus Versio. Arp 2600M and Hydrasynth provide melodies and chords."

Sonicware Liven 8Bit Warps XFM Volca Modular Nord Lead - Downtempo New Age Jam

video upload by ChrisLody

"This jam started off as quite an experimental affair and ended up landing in ambient electronica/downtempo/chilled out/new age music territory. Perhaps because I'm feeling a little nostalgic today. As I've mentioned before on the channel I used to be a carpenter and joiner, I did that for a living for 20 years in fact. To cut a long story short I've decided to go back into the trade after a break of a few years and I'm quite excited but a bit apprehensive, though I've already been out to look at some work and it's only been 3 days since I set up my new Facebook page so that can't be bad 😁 Anyway, my point is this sounds a bit 90s to me which is the decade I was learning the trade. Probably not a coincidence, but it's not even a genre of music I listen to much 🤷‍♂️

So in this jam the Volca Modular has a radio\cassette player plugged into the CV input which is being routed through like it were an oscillator. This enables me to gate the incoming signal. There was some sort of radio play on which gave me plenty of vocal material to work with. I also had to get it done fast though as I wasn't sure when it would finish which is why the video is a bit wonky and blurry on this one, sorry about that.

The radio\cassette in question is a cheap Matsui model that no longer plays tapes but the radio output is impressively loud making it a good fit for playing radio and noise into the Volca Modular

The Sonicware Liven XFM is providing the drums here using a kit that spreads across all 4 track. It's fast becoming my go to drum machine on top of everything else it's good at, more on that in a future video

The Liven 8Bit warps is producing a pad sound using it's lovely lofi FM engine, most of what I'm playing here is improvised. Again I had to work fast so the first good take was the one to use

The Nord Lead is obviously playing the lead sound. Again largely improvised. I learned how to trill on piano recently, maybe a bit too much of that in this to be honest 😄

Effects are provided by the Danelectro Fab Echo on the Nord Lead and the Zoom Studio 1201 routed into my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface"

Kitaro 喜多郎 - Wings 翼 Cover

video upload by ltpstan

"Initially, I was inspired by the live version of 'Wings', in how Kitaro managed to improvise throughout the whole piece live amazes me when I listened for the first time. Now, this project have been left for awhile which I wanted to do for a long time, now I feel it is the right time to release it together with the improvisation. In the end, it came out quite nicely, enjoy it! Thank you!

ps: I am arranging my set up and anticipating the new miniKORG700FS (late August) to be put up above the Korg 800DV. That's why the Juno106 is at the other rack."

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

And a couple more:

Kitaro 喜多郎 - Magical Sand Dance 神秘なる砂の舞 Cover

"Another great song by Kitaro.
This rendition is between the different live versions. It includes a break in between for the continous rhythm.
This is also one of my favourites. Glad to make it into a cover.
This will be the last cover for the year as things will get busy.

Produced on Logic Pro X
Leads: Korg 800DV & Juno 106
Drums: Logic Pro X
Synth Bass: Logic Pro X
Strings: Logic Pro X
Choir: Logic Pro X
Guitar: Logic Pro X"

Kitaro 喜多郎 - Free Flight 飛翔 Cover

"I always like the 'Live in Yakushiji' version of 'Free Flight'. This version has an epic ending.
This time, I tried to attempt a short version of this song.
Most of the sounds are from the Korg 01/W: Animotion pad (combi), Choir.

There was a slight fumbling in-between the changing of sounds (800DV to 700S Square) but I did not want to cut off the video as I wanted to retain all in one shot.

Fun Fact: This Korg 800DV was one of the earlier units produced from my research. Also, the later units have the smaller logo at the right instead of the larger one, at the left side. This units does not have the Pedal connector input (VCF FK-1) like the later production units."

Analog Mafia RC-808 “Drum Rap” Contest

The following is in via Analog Mafia. You can find details on the contest here.

"RC-808 is a drum synth that can do the rap all by itself. In another words, we will go back to the days of the talking drums. It would be great if you could have a listen to the files.

Giving articulation ability to drum sequencers was actually a part of the Roland history ever since Don Lewis connected an expression pedal to add volume level accent to give variation to a primitive preset patterned rhythm box. This lead Mr Kakehashi to implement "Accent" as a parameter of rhythm machines.

When Mr Kikumoto designed programmable drum sequencers and MIDI protocols, he wondered why the sequencers onboard drum machines don't have any pitch nor duration parameters. Because they are non-tuned percussion? But then synths can provide frequency and envelope curves to match your needs and tastes. Isn't this lack of these parameters result of prejudices or stereo types that still confines the drum sound expressions to a certain notion only?

This is the reason why the RC-808 Standalone edition has a small piano roll style sequencer. With full fledged general purpose 8 partial synth engines per instruments, you can create both tuned and sustained sounds that can be used for percussive purposes. For instance, this offers "open and close" sound variation to not just hi-hats but to any other instrument you can imagine, like "open and close bass drum" you hear on the demo files here.

Recently, as Kikumoto san was reviewing HipHop and Rap music, he found rappers' rhyme and flow concept somewhat resembling his RC-808 concept of providing further expression to drum sounds.

Inspired with the rhyme and flow concept, he is thinking of expanding this scheme to shed new light to drum sound expression, not just to hiphop and rap, but to all kinds of music genre, with a concept of Drum Rap like MC talking drum so to say."

Hammond 102200

video upload by SyntheticMachines

"A multitrack demo from the Hammond 102200 Synthesizer. The only synthesizer ever made by the hammond company.
They only produced 200 units and that's why it is extremly rare. Unlike other synths, it works with the modulation matrix instead of knobs and faders with 300 variations.
It's a quirky sounding mono synth that reminds of early casios and computer games.

video by LFOstore

"BUY: https://lfo.sellfy.store/p/roland-jv-...

The legendary Roland JV-1080 synthesizer is back with its best classic analog sounds - "Analog Dreams" soundset!

After succesful "Planet JV" soundset we put our effort on modeling
iconic analog sounds for vintage spirit in modern music production.

Back to 1994 JV was one of the most powerful digital modules with its flexible engine & beautiful sound combined with great set of effects & drums.

Why its so cool?

Cause besides pianos, bells, cowbells & cheesy accordions, GM applause and Bang! presets - its capable to create great analog sounds, deepest ambient textures, great moving sequences.

Its like a hardware 'Omnisphere' synth with huge effort.

So – what was our first desire when we get our black box?
To create our own soundset for the legend with modern approach ofcourse!

So here it is: "Analog Dreams" Soundset with 75 hand krafted presets by LFO.store chief, Nick Klimenko

Inside of the pack is all you need for your retro-inspired track:

*Vintage analog-like basses & Vintage leads (yes, Klaus Schulze spirit also there)

*Great emulations of classic legends: Moog, Jupiter, JX-series, CS, Juno,Arp Odyssey, Yamaha DX-7 and others

*Deepest ambient pads, space drones & tonal soundscapes

*Modern sequences you never heard or seen before on JV

*Beautiful bells, plucks & rhytmic structures

Good news everyone!
