Improvisation - Streaga & Mood
video upload by junklight
It appears YouTube isn't autogenerating thumbnails at the moment. Just hit play to start and all will be well.
"Double Trilogy part 2
I've been exploring the 'double trilogy' of the Make Noise desktop synths and the recent Chase Bliss pedals
In today's episode I'm exploring Streaga and Mood. As you may have discovered if you've ever played on one - Strega is a noisy bugger and has a bit of mind of its own. Playing it can be a bit of a 'collaboration' with what it wants.
There are two parts - one faster one slower. Slightly better camera angle than last week too - my hand isn't constantly in the way ."

Improvisation with 0-Coast & Habit
video upload by junklight
"A good way of learning gear is to make something with very limited items. In the last year I've acquired two 'trilogies' - the Make Noise desktop units and three Chase Bliss pedals that seem to really complement each other: Mood, Blooper and Habit
For this one focusing on the 0-Coast and Habit (assisted by the 0-control - while I'm happy to, and indeed do, make completely 'note free' work I'm not sure YouTube is a place it might find an audience)"

Habittronics - an updated take on Frippertronics with the Chase Bliss Habit
video upload by junklight
"Fripp famously said about Frippertronics 'a way for one person to make an awful lot of noise. Wonderful!' - this is just me and a synth and the Chase Bliss Habit (there is an expression pedal out of sight) and reverb and crust supplied by the Screen Violence from Old Blood Noise. Lots of fun to be had with this"

A Friday night soundscape
video upload by junklight
"Not much time for making music at the moment but I've slowly been refining my setup while I have the odd minute. Ditched Roli and went the way I should have gone in the first place.... MPE really unlocks the Argon 8 IMO (you can just see the keyboard in this shot - I've discovered stands as a way of maximising the small space in my studio). Also loving the Red Panda Particles 2- no idea what it's doing most of the time - I should read the manual again but it makes great noises!"

burning road
video upload by junklight
"I find myself in quite an apocalyptic mood for this one.
I discovered Efrim Menuck has almost completely switched to electronics in recent years (checkout ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT) which has inspired me to chase that distorted guitar-y sound that I love with mine too. I recently acquired the WMD synchrodyne, which ironically was the first module I saw a YouTube demo of and made me realise I wanted my own euro rack system although I seem to have bought rather a lot of other modules first.... Anyway the synchrodyne is a wonderfully expressive beast, if a little wild at times, and the seaboard is a nice controller for it (even if it makes the tuning a little hit & miss). I added a theremin to my Make Noise Tape & Microsound Machine in case you are wondering why I'm waving my hand about. Also there is a ditto x4 looper on the floor you can't see in the video"

Turning the dial on some alien shore
video upload by junklight
"An ambient improvisation full of chittering rhythms
featuring a couple of new toys - ditto looper (not seen in the video - I'm actually using as a foot pedal!), Manifold Research Tetragrid and a Percall - which frees up a lot of modules & wires since the whole percussion envelope/vca setup is something I use a lot"

the shining sea
video upload by junklight
"a fourth world-y kind of piece with a long slow build up (so not for all the people who watch the first 10 seconds and press 'next' but I don't suppose they read the description either ;-) )
the main sample is from this wonderful video featuring Fatou Seidi Ghali from Les Filles de Illighadad:"

Improvisation - Count to 5, 0-Coast, Tape & Microsound machine
video upload by junklight
"Should you be one of the rare people who listens for more than a few seconds - the improvisation is in two parts with a small gap in-between
I've wanted a Montréal Assembly Count to 5 for ages. One came up at just the right time on Reverb recently and here we are. The 0-Coast seems to have taken over duties from my DPO on lead
The strings in the Morphagene are from Spitfire Tundra which I don't think I've ever used for anything much like media composition but I have had tremendous value from!"

storm sequence - eurorack (make noise ,interstellar radio) micro freak
video upload by junklight
"Just messing about with the Schlappi Engineering Interstellar Radio module, my Make Noise micro sound system and the mircofreak
I've always loved radio sounds and the interstellar radio is a good way of creating them in the modular without sampling. Also really loving the Make Noise tape & micro sound system such a creative instrument.
I bought a Walrus Audio Slö reverb for my micro freak - it really suits it!"

Loops & tones - Otis on Norns & Argon8
video upload by junklight
"Just Matt from over on Lines has added grid support to his lovely Otis script (roughly based on the Cocaquantus from Ciat Lombarde) so had to give it a quick go with this noisy dirty patch I made last night for the Argon 8"

Improvisation with Make Noise gear, Microfreak , Norns , Argon8
video upload by junklight
"I like this excerpt from tonights practice session (stick with it - there are two distinct sections). Loving the Make Noise tape and micro sound machine - the limitation of the set system forces a lot of creativity but it's well thought out enough to be full of potential.
Lots of lovely sounds from the 0--coast too.
if you are wondering why I keep looking back at the micro sound & tape system towards the end it's because at that point I hadn't quite worked out where the rhythmic beat was coming from :-)
Unfortunately the storage on my phone ran out before the live patching session on the larger modular for a long bolero"

Very short improv with Norns Raindrops script , make noise & Argon8
video upload by junklight
"The Raindrops script on the Norns
https://llllllll.co/t/raindrops-simpl...
is generating audio AND a midi channel which is driving the 0-coast into the tape & micro sound machine. I had this script running like this for ages - lovely.
This clip is just me playing over the top of it a little with a bonus view of my fat arse but there you go"

Sequencers & Synths - Argon8, lots of Make Noise inc 0-coast and Microfreak
video upload by junklight
"let's just say that reverb.com is _dangerous_ ;-)
I seem to have added an Argon8 to my collection - lovely. I love the little Skulpt but I'm not a massive fan of the touch keyboard on it and the controls are a bit TOO overloaded so happy to upgrade to a bigger modal synth. The sequence is the 0-coast driven by the 0-control and with various bits of the tape and micro sound machine 'helping'. The loop on the Argon is the Valhalla delay in tape mode (wish there were a hardware version!!!)
anyway: a bit of a jam getting the hang of them all...."

channel directions - & music with Numeric Repetitor & XTk
video upload by junklight
"I'm wanting to move on from just videos of me playing music and start exploring music & creativity (rather than gear) a bit more. However need to start with baby steps- learning to make better videos....."

Dreaming of winter (ambient improv with XTk, Sampleson Reed106 & Valhalla plugins)
video upload by junklight
"Working towards a more fixed 'studio' setup for a bit - still fiddling but recorded this straight into the camera with some sounds I really liked!"

Another Wasp improv this time with Norns
video by junklight
"Still getting to know the Wasp again after all these years (and through something better than a cheap guitar practice amp ;-) ). I so need to sort out my workspace and up my production values a bit but stupidly busy as ever and prefer to spend my music time playing rather than sorting things out right now :-)
Using the Norns oooooo script by infinitedigits (who I think is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3xuU...) [video below]
https://norns.community/authors/infin..."
"everything" by infinite digits, live | norns, po-32, korg monotron delay, raspberry pi
video by infinitedigits
"a live performance of the last track on my latest album: https://infinitedigits.bandcamp.com/a...
the entire album was made with the cheapest synth on the market: the korg monotron. i hacked it to use midi from a raspberry pi. i added drums with a po-32 and mixed it live with a koma field kit."

improv for Wasp and XTk
video by junklight
"I'm not overly nostalgic but I've always had a soft spot for the Wasp and well.....
and yes I know how ropey the mix is but I recorded it straight to a stereo track so not much could be done."
