"This is an official video for the Polivoks’ 33rd anniversary crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo.

Polivoks - Demo by its inventor Vladimir Kuzmin.

Published on Nov 11, 2015

"This is a demo of the famous Soviet synthesizer - Polivoks by its inventor, Vladimir Kuzmin. If you want to get an original CD, a t-shirt and a large poster signed by Vladimir Kuzmin and personalized with your name, contribute our champagne at Indiegogo."

"Thirty-three years ago in 1982, mass production began of Polivoks, the best Russian synthesizer ever. Today, Polivoks is very popular among musicians all over the world for its unique sound, reliability and great features. Many studios and great musicians use it for their work. Among them are Franz Ferdinand, Rammstein, Godfrap and many others.

Now we have started a crowdfunding campaign so we can release a CD celebrating Polivoks’ 33rd anniversary. It is a superb collection of unique tracks recorded by great musicians from many countries. Most of them were recorded especially for this CD. As a perk, you will get an original T-shirt and a large poster personally signed by Vladimir Kuzmin.

Some unknown facts about Polivoks:

Polivoks was manufactured at the “Vector” military plant from 1982 until 1991, a total of approximately 20,000 units.

The retail price was 600 rubels (around $850).

Polivoks was never exported from the USSR, and it achieved its popularity abroad only after the “Iron Curtain” came down.

One of colour variants of the synthesizer was supposed to be “khaki,” but it was never produced in this colour.

All the knobs on the front panel have dots marked with white paint.

The first batch of Polivoks have knobs occasionally marked with fluorescent white paint, which was used for military equipment.

They were not changed, so several Polivokses have knobs that glow in the dark."

Harmonic Tone Generator Exhibit Pics

Click here for some pics, in via Skot Wiedmann, of the debut of the Harmonic Tone Generator exhibit, at the Sousa Museum in Urbana-Champaign

Left: The original Harmonic Tone Generator.

via illinois.edu: "The Sousa Archives acquired one of the earliest instruments that composed synthetic music, created by Professor Emeritus James Beauchamp in 1964.

Beauchamp's machine will be exhibited and preserved at the archives, accompanied by a recreated digital version created by ECE electronics services technician Mark Smart.

The instrument was used to compose some of the earliest compositions in electronic music, such as "Underworld" by Salvatore Martirano [embed below]. This type of music would evolve over the years into today's DJ scene."

Sevilla Soft MBC1 MIDI Breath Controller

Review del controlador de viento MBC1 de Sevilla Soft

Published on Nov 3, 2015 Hispasonic

MIDI breath controller by Sevilla Soft based in Spain. You'll find a write-up in Spanish on Hispasonic here (Googlish here).

The following is some info via Sevilla Soft translated into Googlish:

"MBC1 is a device designed for musicians who know the possibilities offered by today's technology, synths, DAWs, MIDI interface ... without sacrificing human contact with the instrument, a real expression, which ultimately gives meaning to the music . All those who play a wind instrument know we're talking about. Clearly, the best way to imitate the expression of a wind instrument in a virtual instrument is blowing, as if the real instrument in question.

MBC1 comes with all the necessary elements for integrated programming and operation, you will not need any additional software to configure your computer, or any driver for its operation, is recognized by any operating system.

Is made up of:
- 3-digit LED display.
- Indicator 10 LEDs 8 to monitor the air flow and the value of MIDI output. 2 Indicators: MIDI IN, MIDI OUT.
- Rotary knob with push light where everything on the menu is set.
CONNECTIONS:
- DIN MIDI input.
- DIN MIDI output.
- Port USB MIDI Class compliant.
- Sensor input. Here the tube supplying the air flow is connected."
