914 Fixed Filter Bank and More Coming From Audio Damage

Title link takes you to more on Analog Industries.

"We will release the 914 Fixed Filter Bank, which is a major upgrade to the 907A. The 914 features 12 bands, as opposed to 8 in the 907A. It also has makeup gain (an oft-requested feature of 907A owners), separate level controls for wet and dry, and an overall bandwidth control. It is head and shoulders above the 907A, and with the bandwidth control, makes a stellar passive-style equalizer. The 907A will be discontinued, and the 914 will be $39.00. The upgrade for previous owners will be $10.00, and will include Universal Binaries for the OSX crowd."

Maplin 5600 Vintage Analog Synth

Title link takes you to shots pulled from this auction. Details below. You can also grab a zip of the 5600 technical specs here.

"Sound sources: 4 Oscillator; Noise generator (pink-white); External signal in.

Sound modifiers: 2 Filters; 2 Amplifiers; 2 Ring modulator; Envelope control

Joystick-action is unparalelled: you can set the intervals; amounts and you route anything to be adjusted to the joystick as: filter cutoffs; oscillators... by a single pin-matrix-ing.

Spring-Reverb; LFO; Inverter; Sample & hold; Transient-generator; Exponential converter; Phaser; Stereo output.....

The machine is pre-wired and modular and can be cross patched with the pin-matrix like that on the EMS- synthesizers. That makes all much easier; faster; and sensible and adds endless possibilities. This modular synth is one of the most versatile synth of the world in it's class and beats all the famous and classic modulars in this aspect!

I only sell it because I don't have the time to work on it! 1 Year ago I've been spent hours with testing it and I have to say all was very easy to find on it and I've made some kick-drum sounds and I have to tell: The precisity of the access to all the possibile parameters was really amazing: Setting the pitch of a kick drum's click-portion and adjusting the level and lenght; then the thumb, the tail, the body can be set likewise. All the levels; pitches; times can be set on say even a single kick drum and it's far not that easy on almost any other modulars!

The machine is in showroom condition, like never used, without any scratches. Internally I will try testing before selling it. It comes with the flighcase-cover and will look like a small Fender-Rhodes. The included manual details the diagrams, the operation and has setting-charts. If I will find it, I will include the other manual which has all the technical details as specs. service manual. Weights about ca. 30 kg so please think accordingly!"

Note: I am not selling this so do not contact me. Just pulling the shots and details so they are not lost when the auction is lost months from now.

Oakley, MOTM and Blacet Modular Synthesiser

Title link takes you to shots pulled from this auction. Details saved below.

"Custom built “one off” large format Modular Synthesiser in Mint condition and perfect working order. It has been custom built from the very best of Oakley Sound, MOTM, Blacet, Encore and Tellun System modules, with custom engraved stunning looking electric blue front panels and a solid American Oak case. It has been designed and built to the highest standards, and has two separate power supplies, a Power One 1.7Amp PSU for analog modules and a Power One 800ma PSU for the “dirtier” digital modules. This arrangement keeps the soundpath noise free.

I built this modular without regard to cost and for my own personal use, it has a wide variety of filters so that as well as making all of the usual (and unusual J )modular sounds, it will also mimic a lot of old school Analog synths – the Oakley VCO’s are based on the Minimoog core, so in conjunction with the Oakley Superladder moog filter you can get perfect Minimoog and Moog Modular sounds, or use the MOTM 440 for Pro 5 sounds, the MOTM420 for Korg MS20 sounds, The MOTM410 for Korg PS3200 sounds, the MOTM480 for Yamaha CS80, the MOTM485 for Yamaha GX1 etc. BUT it also includes 2 Blacet Miniwaves with optional PPG wavetable ROMS, so wire in a couple of the Miniwaves and use them with the MOTM440 filter and you have instant PPG Waveterm 2.3 sounds!

But there is more, it also includes some very rare modules including the Oakley Octal Resonator (Only 20 ever built!), the very highly regarded ENCORE thru zero Bode style frequency shifter and the extremely wacky Neural Agoniser, which uses two huge (and very expensive) Accutronics spring line reverb tanks to make sounds you have never heard before! The Blacet MiniWaves both have the Hylander Rom expansion boards, so each MiniWave has TEN selectable Roms instead of one or two, and there are 256 waves and 256 banks in each rom - that is a LOT of waveforms. One of the ROMs even allows the MiniWaves to act as a fully featured Quantizers!.

Here is a list of all modules:

TOP ROW
OAKLEY MidiDac Midi to CV Convertor
1 of Custom Built Noise source - produces White Noise, Pink Noise and two of three oscillator 808 type “Chime” Noise sources – great for bell tones
2 of OAKLEY VCO Modded with Switchable Octaves and Fine tune (like minimoog)
1 of Oakley VCO with standard Coarse and Fine Tune controls
2 of BLACET Mini Waves – Modded with Rom expansions, each miniwave has TEN selectable roms, instead of usual 1 or 2. Includes PPG Roms and many others.
2 of Oakley ADSR / VCA’s latest issue with extra fast envelopes and status leds
1 of MOTM 440 Voltage Controlled Filter
1 of OAKLEY SuperLadder Moog filter 1P, 4P and bandpass
1 of OAKLEY Octal Resonator resonant filter bank

BOTTOM ROW
1 of OAKLEY VC-LFO
1 of OAKLEY Sample & Hold and Slew Module
1 of OAKLEY Wavefolder
1 of ENCORE Electronics Thru Zero Frequency Shifter
1 of OAKLEY Little EG – AD and AR envelope shaper
1 of OAKLEY Triple VCA
2 of OAKLEY MultiMix – With full “Stooge” mod front panels, allow addition or subtraction of voltages
1 of MOTM 485 – Yamaha GX1 LP and HP Voltage Controlled Filter
1 of MOTM 410 – Korg PS3200 style Triple Bandpass Voltage Controlled Filters
1 of OAKLEY OMS410 Expander for MOTM410, allows external use of 3 LFO’s, extra CV’s etc
1 of MOTM 420 – Korg MS20 style LP/HP/BP Voltage Controlled Filter
1 of MOTM 480 – Yamaha CS80 type LP/HP Voltage Controlled Filter
1 of TELLUN TLN-156 Neural Agoniser – With Dual Accutronics spring reverb tanks and full front panel design.

I will include a useful selection of patch cables. Also included is a huge ring binder with operation notes, building instructions, parts schedules and circuit diagrams for all of the modules. The whole system has been recently calibrated and fully tested and is 100% working. It has had very little use and should provide years of faithful service.

This is advertised elsewhere (SOS) so I reserve the right to end the auction early. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, not just the best sounding Modular synth available but the best looking one too! You could easily pay more for a piano and that just has one sound and doesn't look as nice either :-)

I previously posted about the Oakley Sound TB3030. I just ran into the TB3031. It's a heavily revised version of the TB3030 including discrete divider and waveshaper allowing more musical sub basses according to the site. The overdrive circuitry allows level changes w/o affecting overall volume and the unit supports filter FM, a sub octave generator, VCA decay control, accented decay control, velocity CV and more. Axiom's GX7 - DX7 to G2 Conversion Tool

Now this is pretty cool. Luca Capozzi created a tool that lets you upload any DX7 sysex bank into your Clavia G2 Modular. The tool comes with the original DX7 ROM1a bank. Title link takes you there.

Introduction
How many times you have desired to convert your old Yamaha DX7 sounds to your new Clavia Nord Modular G2? Clavia gave us a good starting point, including FM Operators and a DX Router as modules. Each parameter is here, ready to be tweaked to achive our beloved DX sounds. But how tedious is tweak all those parameters manually? People starts asking for a tool that helps G2 users to load Yamaha patches into their new G2 synthesizer but, until now, nothing was created. This tool let you load any Yamaha DX7 SysEx bank and let you send patch parameters as Midi CC# to your G2 synthesizer. There are some limitations that don’t let us to send all parameters at once. DX7 parameters are over 150 while G2 usable Midi CC are less then 120. The workaround is to send parameters one Operator per time, doing some hand work on your G2 Editor.

If only...

Jimmy posted a few links in the comments section of this post. Title link takes you to one of them with the following shot. Make sure to read the caption.

"I got into collecting old synthesizers in 1990, about the time that a LOT of people were unloading their beautiful synths to get the latest digital beasts from Korg, Roland, and Yamaha.

In this picture from 1993, you can see my TWO PPG Wave 2.3s, and the PRKFD keyboard. Not shown is the Waveterm B "brain". Also in the picture is the Rhodes Chroma that I got for $200 in perfect working order, and a Roland Jupiter 8. Cropped out was a Linndrum."

I on the other hand completely missed the sell off, and I think I'm actually glad I did for one reason. It would have been way too painful to see my dream synths go for so cheap and not be able to afford them. Back then I was on the ramen and spaghetti diet working at the local Sizzler, trying to make my way through college. Now, if only... this were happening today. But then again, most vintage synths, especially the DCO poly analogs are going for cheap compared to their original prices. I never would have dreamed this would be the case back in 1986 when I picked up my first synth, a new Oberheim Matrix-6 for about $1100.

Tau - New Synthesis Algorithm by Symbolic Sound

Cool to see something new from Symbolic Sound, makers of the Kyma system.

"Tau sound synthesis and processing for time/frequency warping and multi-way morphing in Kyma X.3
CHAMPAIGN, IL—February 14, 2006—Symbolic Sound Corporation has developed a new technique for morphing, warping, and synthesizing sound in the Kyma sound design environment. The Tau and its accompanying graphic editor provide tools for creating natural sounding multi-way audio morphs, insane transmogrifications, and mysterious synthesized effects. Listen to some examples here."

List of features

In the Tau Editor you can:

* Time-align multiple files
* Match or transform the frequency, amplitude, and formant envelopes of files
* Morph across two, three or more sounds
* Record your real time transformations on disk for later editing
* Create an entire library of synthesis patches at the touch of a button (Galleries)
* Test the mix and morphing combinations in real time as you are editing
* Analyze a new sound by simply dragging it and dropping it into the editor
* Morph without time-smearing or "robotic" comb filtering effects
* Edit with complete freedom, knowing that you have unlimited undos

INetSynth

Update2: Make sure to read the comments section of this post.

Update via Tom of MusicThing in the comments: "it started out as hardware: http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/09/strange-story-of-keytosound-synth.html"

I forgot about that. Here's a link to the shots I pulled from the auction linked in Tom's post: http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2005/09/inetsynth.html

Title link takes you to the INetSynth site with more info and demos. So why the INetSynth name? Apparently it has a built in browser where you can audition and grab patches instantly. Kind of interesting in that it's immediate and saves you some steps, but not quite revolutionary. I was curious if there might be more to it like some sort of online processing or the ability to collaborate with others, real time, online. But, no go. Now that would be very interesting. Hmm... Someone should come out with that. Online jam sessions, programming sessions, etc.

Details:
"KeyToSound is proud to announce the release of the INetSynth. The INetSynth is a stand-alone synthesizer or plugin supporting AU, VST, and RTAS formats on both Mac and PC.

The INetSynth runs a True Stereo® Signal Path (two signals, left and right) throughout the entire preset, starting with the oscillators, passing through modulation, filters, and effects, to the final output. The INetSynth’s true stereo signal path opens up the stereo image of the sound without reducing the number of voices or polyphony. This True-Stereo® signal path opens the doors of creativity when designing soaring leads, pads, or growling bass lines.

XWM®- Extreme Wave Memory accommodates large stereo samples by providing key-maps and individual loop points for both left and right channels. XWM technology not only produces rich and full sounds, but by handling samples efficiently, you get more performance and lower latency on playback. The INetSynth handles samples much the same way as a hardware sampler, yet gives you unlimited modulation options to create complex sounds easily.

The INetSynth is the first synthesizer ever to feature Resonance Noise Oscillators or R-Noise Oscillators®. The R-Noise Oscillator modulates a signal in a very unique way, creating a recognizable signature to the final sound. You won’t find a R-Noise Oscillator® on any other synthesizer – hardware or software!

"Multi" Oscillators are stacked Saw Tooth wave oscillators. The oscillators are layered and can be slightly detuned, producing a natural and bright timber. This is simply achieved by selecting one of the many preprogrammed “stacks” in a preset and adjusting the detune amount. This is another feature you won’t get from a hardware synthesizer!

The INetSynth has sixteen Multi-timbral layers each capable of loading a key-map with up to 128 presets making it not just a multi-timbral synthesizer, but a “Super Multi-timbral” synthesizer. That’s a Super Multi-timbral layer capable of layering 2048 presets to be triggered with one push of a key!

The INetSynth Presets are platform independent and can be auditioned and distributed online through the built in INetSynth Preset Browser. Using the NetNotes™ system, the INetSynth gives you access to presets in a way that no other synthesizer can – immediately!

Dynamic CPU Load Management - DCLM

DCLM does exactly what it says. DCLM manages the CPU load by allocating CPU resources specifically for certain components (Osc. Filter, LFO, Env., etc.) of a preset, precisely when they are needed. This ultimately enables the maximum performance from your system allowing greater polyphony of complex sounds. The more resources you have available for the INetSynth, the greater performance you get. There are no limits!

Industrial Strength Interface

Instead of being crowded with buttons and knobs that are difficult to control and view, the INetSynth’s interface is split into views which are populated by sliders, dials, and knobs in such a way that the interface is very fast and efficient to work with. Work flow for sound design and synthesizer playability are achieved by allowing quick and easy viewing of a presets layout in a well organized and structured manner.

The INetSynth can be viewed easily from a display that is 6 feet away such as behind a console or rack of keyboards and controllers. When you use INetSynth onstage, the interface and layout make it easy to read during live performances – no more squinting into a display while you should be performing!

Complete Integration

The INetSynth integrates seamlessly with all platforms and host programs. When a project using the INetSynth is saved and reloaded from any host sequencer, the INetSynth will have total recall of the presets and settings associated with that particular project. It’s all stored automatically when you save the INetSynth preset. The INetSynth is supported on both Mac and PC platforms of course. "

Charles Cohen and Signal 2 Boys Live in Philadelphia.

If you don't know who Charles Cohen is, check out this post. Title link takes you to more info on the show tonight. Do a find for Cohen when you get there. If you want to see a Buchla live and you are in Philly, here's your chance. According to Charles Cohen's website, the show starts at 8PM and is actaully free.

"SIGNAL 2 BOYZ is Philly's most angular, funky, and explosive electro-acoustic improv unit, featuring the legendary Charles Cohen! Utilizing a deceptively simple system known as "Transformative Groove", the ensemble creates shifting grooves, timbres, patterns, and structures that are about as unpredictable as they are infectious.
Signal-2-Boyz is: -Charles Cohen (Buchla Music Easel Synthesizer/electronics) -Amnon Freidlin (guitar/loops) -Andrew Gaspar (turntables/electronics) -Joe Lentini (MIA: Jamaica) -Evan Lipson (bass/devices) -Dave Smolen (analog electronics)
The ensemble's general aesthetic has evolved into a process of sonic layering or lamenationin which sounds may be frozen in real time (and/or from a previous moment), by a hyper-subtle process of looping and manipulation. Careful attention is payed to aspects of foreground and background texture, dynamics, density, pulse, contrasting colors, as well as various modes of poly-rhythmic/metric/tempic playing. This type of playing is smoothly juxtoposed with a more freewheeling yet interlocking language of varying complexity, where a large emphasis is placed upon purely timbral and sonic experimentation. These two areas freely flow in and out of each other, creating a sound that can often become quite raucous and 'grooving' (in the truest sense of the word...an area that S2B generally feels is largely ignored by most in the field of experimental improvisation), or very spatial and reduced in texture..."
