How to Add Your Own Samples Into Animoog and the first Pack via dischord

via dischord where you'll find the pack and additional details.

"Early this morning reader DSWO sent me an email linking over to an interesting post on Moog's official forum. After poking around in Animoog to recover his presets, craig8128 found a bunch of samples and started to opine on how to add user timbres. This was pretty exciting stuff so I got into a full-on hackathon today!

Adding files to the directory suggested by craig8128 didn't yield any results. I was encouraged though and started looking around on my own. I realized I didn't see any of the Richard Devine or B.A.S.E. timbres in that directory, so I figured that wasn't the right place. I found both in the cache directory, and poked around in their for a while. I wasn't able to add new timbres there, but I was able to make the first 2 octaves of any factory timbre do interesting noises.

After about 4 hours I found the right directory! As you see by this screenshot here, I am now able to add my own Timbres!"

The directory to load them is at [Animoog Directory]/Documents/.data/samples/

*correction to audio on video one: John B informed me that, "Presets are automatically selected when you use the Inc/Dec buttons - you don't need to press Enter for those! Only if you use the dial or keypad to select do you need to press Enter." (doh)

This video shows some of the sounds from bank one (aka 'Bank Zero"). The second follow up video will have direct audio from the Solaris outputs, and have examples of banks 2, 3 and 4 (aka banks 1,2,3). There is a bank "5" (aka bank 4) but I won't have time to demo that, unfortunately.

"UPDATED VERSION: John Bowen SOLARIS Demo 2 (*HUM REDUCED) - HQ* Audio - by Christopher Simmons

John Bowen SOLARIS Demo - PART 2 - with HQ* direct audio (*NEW VERSION WITH HUM/NOISE REDUCTION*), by Christopher Simmons. An audio walk through of some of the bank 2,3,4 patches in the SOLARIS limited edition keyboard synthesizer. Content, performance and audio contained in this video is Copr. © 2012 by Christopher Laird Simmons and Neotrope® Entertainment; all commercial and derivative rights reserved. HD, stereo, 20min.

NOTE: since I had very limited time, I just played a bunch of keys and didn't spend a lot of time modifying patches with the knobs as I did a bit of in the first video, and went through the patches very quickly; so don't expect any free 'riffs' you can snatch, or any brilliant keyboard chops (I do play very well). This is all I had time to do, and hopefully somebody finds it of value. Considering less than 100 people on the planet have a SOLARIS, this is going to be a unique video until other owners upload something similar. AGAIN: I'm not auditioning for best performance here, just hitting some keys to make noise to demo the patches since there are very few demos online of entire banks, and almost no videos like this. It is what it is, folks. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: YES! I know these SOLARIS demo videos are not perfect. I had only a couple of hours to shoot "something" or "nothing" and went for something. I would find these useful in shopping for a Solaris keyboard; but your mileage may vary. I sold mine to help finance new house, so I shot these AFTER I had sold it before boxing it up, as a "what the heck" kind of thing. Not planned, not perfect, but they don't entirely suck. :-)"

Diva tutorial 04 - PWM

YouTube Published on Aug 25, 2012 by uheplugins

"The fourth in our series of bite-sized tutorials aimed at users of u-he's Diva, this one is all about the ever-popular "pulse width modulation" (PWM) effect. PWM was traditionally used to add tonal movement -- especially useful for synths that only had one oscillator e.g. ARP Axxe.

Act I - standard PWM: How to set up typical cyclic PWM in the various oscillator models. The ratio between the upper and lower levels ("mark space ratio") of a rectangular waveform is slowly modulated by an LFO. Note: One of the sawtooth waveforms in the "DCO" oscillator model also delivers a similar effect, but I neglected to demonstrated it in this video!

Act II - the very first PWM is likely to have been an attempt to emulate the satisfying "zippy" sound of two detuned sawtooth waves, one of which is inverted. Because the Triple VCO model features a Ramp wave (i.e. inverted sawtooth), it's worth trying this out in Diva. A taste of history, this method is my personal favourite.

Even if your 2-oscillator hardware synth didn't have a ramp wave, you could still make similar sounds by detuning two pulse waves - as shown here.

Act III - "sync" i.e. oscillator synchronization means that the phase of a slave oscillator is reset by a master oscillator. If you modulate the pitch of the slave within a very narrow range, you can get effects that are very similar to PWM. This method requires some practise...

Homework: how dense can can make your PWM sound by stacking and detuning 2 voices (no more), and using the Voice modulator to offset pulse widths and even the LFO rate? Read that again..."

"The unit was only producing small noise at the start, but after trying few different settings I noticed the keys make sound when I turned the VCF filter switch to HPF. It wasn't producing sound in LPF, and only small level sound in BPF.

I'm not a technician and I'm not sure what actually the problem is, but I guess VCF is not working properly. Except for the VCF part, all other knobs and switches including the ones on VCO and VCA seem to be working fine. All the keys are producing sound as well."

"The unit appears to be working fine, but one issue with this is that the bender wheel has a bit of damage, and the LFO-MOD function above the bender is constantly on without leaning the bender upwards. Sideway bend works fine, but the bender gets stuck when you bend it to the right, which I guess could be done with some adjusting."

SammichSID MIdIbox Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"This is the very rare, hard to get SammichSID. This is a synthesizer, sequencer, arpeggiator, FX processor. This product was originally released by a website called ucapps/MIDIBox in very small limited quantities. It was released as an unassembled kit, with electronic components that had to be soldered. This version is from the extremely limited, very first run. This unit features a 12v power supply. It was assembled by a professional (by a MIL-SPEC certified solderer, and he has been soldering for over twenty years.) As you can see, this unit has the 24 x 24 red (ultrabright) LED matrix and the logo in the top right corner. It also has 5 banksticks that can store up to 128 patches each. Examples of patch categories include Lead, Bass, Brass, Pads, Waveforms, Drum Kits, Arpeggios, Sequences, and 303 style bassline sequences. This box has more operations than I can possibly mention. Other features include several oscillators with multiple waveforms, filters (each channel = 1/2 or both), 6 assignable LFO's with multiple waveforms and Sample and Hold, 2 Extended Envelopes, 8 seperate Modulators with a ton of options for each one, an internal apreggiator with extensive control over various functions like time division swing direction range and more. There is also an internal sequencer that provides options for control over position, note, octave, accent and more. MIDI features include send/receive clock, CC control, note on/off, systex. There are MIDI In and MIDI Out ports, one 1/4" audio input and one 1/4" audio ouput and an on/off switch. Power Supply Included.

This box has so many options its in a category of its own. The functions and possibilites are unlimited with the SammichSID. There are several banks that have presets already programmed, some of which are my own. All of the original material included with the firmware is still on the machine as well as several more banks that have been added over the time of ownership. This machine works great, and does not have any defects inside or out."

Tama DS-200 Drum Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"It has 2 oscillators, which can be triggered by an audio signal via the front jacks (there are no jacks of any kind on the back). The unit is supposed to replicate a kick drum, and it comes reasonably close, in a 1970's washed out fashion. It does not kick hard, but it does have a long decay setting. It also makes those disco bloops and bleeps you've heard so much of. Where this thing really shines though, is in making noise. It has a long 'sweep' knob, coupled with a tone 'tone' and 'decay' knob that can make a sound fo from gowl to scream in a very guttural way. If you're familiar with Wolf Eye's, they use it on just about every track."
