Step into a new realm of sound with the Digitone II, an evolution of Elektron’s original FM synthesiser, now offering expanded polyphony and enhanced creative control. With 16 tracks (versus the original’s 8) and a flexible 16-voice polyphony, you can unleash complex soundscapes across synth or MIDI tracks. Digitone II introduces four selectable synth machines (Wavetone, Swarmer, FM Tone, and FM Drum) and six dynamic filter machines, providing far more sonic variety than its predecessor. The improved 128-step sequencer, along with Euclidean sequencing and advanced modulation options, invites you to explore limitless creative possibilities. Expanded Polyphony and Synth Machines:
While the original Digitone offered 8 voices and 4 synth tracks, the Digitone II doubles the polyphony to 16 voices and expands the tracks to 16, allowing for far more layered compositions. In addition, the four new synthesis machines (Wavetone, Swarmer, FM Tone, FM Drum) go beyond standard FM synthesis, offering greater creative potential for crafting rich melodic, rhythmic, and percussive sounds.

Enhanced Sequencing and Performance Features:
Digitone II features a 128-step sequencer—twice the length of the original Digitone's—enabling more complex patterns and compositions. The addition of Euclidean mode per track offers a fresh approach to sequencing, making it easier to generate evolving rhythms. With individual pattern length, time scale multipliers, and enhanced trig conditions, the Digitone II’s sequencing features are a leap forward from the original, giving you deeper control over your compositions.

Advanced Modulation and Effects:
The Digitone II builds on its predecessor’s modulation and effects capabilities, with three assignable LFOs per voice (up from two in the original) and added effects like digital overdrive, bit reduction, and sample rate reduction per voice. The inclusion of master effects like the stereo compressor and overdrive means you can fine-tune your final mix, while send effects like Saturator Delay and Supervoid Reverb add depth and dimension to your sounds."

'Das Boot' remains one of the most iconic early techno tracks, inspired by the film Das Boot and known for its hypnotic motif and driving energy. This is an exploration of how far pure synthesis can go — and how accurately a track can be reconstructed without using any recorded source material. Reverse-Engineering, recreating the sequencing and grooves, matching the mix and so forth.

Launch Control XL 3 Got an Update – Still Missing One Thing

"I’ve been refining my live performance setup with the Syntakt and the updated Launch Control XL 3, and this jam is the result.

The XL 3 recently received a firmware update, which got me thinking about how close this controller is to being perfect for Elektron gear - and the one feature I still wish it had.

In this performance, I’m using:
Elektron macros for more expressive changes across patterns
A second row of encoders for Syntakt track levels
Momentary Breath Control via the lower button row

What I’m still missing is aftertouch MIDI support - it would unlock a third row of Elektron macros, which are so much more powerful than direct CC mappings. This is one area where alternatives like Faderfox still have a massive edge. That said, I really like the XL 3.
