"Blacet Dark Star Chaos 2000 Frac Rack style module for modular synth. Long out of production, this is one from the final run of these modules. Gently used, works as new. Factory built. Comes with power cable and manual.

When the Dark Star first appeared in 1982, the brochure had the following description:

The Dark Star TM provides a digital noise source with variable clock, plus a noise filter, LFO, VCO, VCA and envelope generator; a whole panel of synthesizer modules in just a tiny 6 x 4 x 3" package...
You can use it to simulate all those surf, wind, rain, cymbal, explosion, spaceships hurtling across the void and warping out type sounds. Careful design and wide range controls give you a real sound exploration tool; don't be fooled by the low price. Try it as a percussion kit addition, a drone voice, even as a modulation source. This reissue of the Dark Star uses the same basic circuit and updates the design with expanded control ranges and CV inputs for the Noise Clock, Noise Filter, VCO and PWM. Use it as a standalone sound generator or interface it with a modular system for some truly wild sounds!
With the interest in chaos theory and fractals in the past few years, this unit provides an excellent means to explore the effects of chaotic (noise) modulation. The results cover quite a wide range from the haunting to the apocalyptic...

The output jacks PCB will screw to the rear panel. You may have to extend some of the audio wires.

The "Tone Selector" section : String 1&2, Brass 1&2, Flute, Electric Piano, Clavichord, Harpsichord, Guitar1&2, Funky1&2&3, & Panel: All of these work fine.
The "Foot Controller" jack has a problem. I tried plugging in an Alesis Foot Controller, and the CS-50 blew a fuse. (The "-15V" fuse)

"A lovely sounding organ / strings / polysynth . String sound is comparable to the Roland RS 202 and you can build up more complex sounds because of the 3 sections. PItch of the organ/string section can be detuned against the pitch of the polysynth. It contains an excellent ensemble effect in addition to vibrato and tremelo effect. Its a little heavy so best suited for studio use! The analog section strings/polysynth sound , to me , is very beautiful ; grainy ., a very physical real sound."
