Sequential Circuits Prophet 6 Jump by Van Halen

Published on Aug 2, 2015 synthartist69
Update: Re-Published on Aug 2, 2015

"I posted an earlier version of this but the Prophet 6 was out of tune so I did a retake of just the music, hence the video sync issue at the very beginning. The background music I created several years ago. Several of my subscribers have asked me if the Prophet 6 can do Jump by Van Halen and my answer is NO, not from any of the factory patches! So, I decided to create a usable OBXa sawtooth patch myself. I simply took two oscillators and detuned them apart, dialed in the correct cutoff filter setting, attack, sustain and release. I added the onboard chorus and delay effects. I basically do this on every keyboard I buy because I do a lot of 80's music live and really need that sound :) In this video I am using my Roland JV1000 via midi to control the Prophet 6 since it only has 49 keys, so I am just playing using both keyboards but the sound is all Prophet 6. The whole 49 key deal just ruins this synth for me.... it really does, just like my Alesis Ion. Great sounding synths but with only 49 keys I am so limited and it is too much trouble to midi up another keyboard all of the time. When I play live I like my setup to be as simple as possible. Thanks for watching and enjoy!"

Matttech Modular WMD Workshop - VCA & Monolith Round Up

Published on Aug 2, 2015 DivKidMusic

"On April 22nd 2015 Matttech Modular put on a workshop at Madlab in Manchester, UK, featuring William Mathewson from WMDevices, where he kindly demonstrated his new range of modules. These were designed in collaboration with Steady State Fate's Andrew Morelli and we got to see the much-anticipated Monolith keyboard in all its glory. William also ran through some of WMDevices' classic designs - such as the Geiger Counter, Synchrodyne and PDO mk.2.

In part 6 William takes us through the VCA module and rounds up the Monolith system. The second wave of videos are from the second part of the event looking at the WMD system he brought alongside the Monolith."

Roland CR-5000 Analog Drum Machine Synthesizer with Trigger Out

via this auction

"Amazing sounding, amazing looking! Cheapest way to get true Roland analog 808 like sounds. Think the congas and cowbells of classic 808 tracks.

The CR-5000 is a preset drum machine scaled-back model of the CR-8000. You select a row, then the pattern...but it has lots of tricks up its sleeve. You can select two buttons on the same row to make new beats and you can use the Register-Trigger jack trick (read about it online) to add some variance as well. And of course you can mix sounds in and out. Just want a 4/4 bass drum. Select the preset and don't use fills. You can also select patterns without having to stop the previous one. And it has shuffle for more variance!

Has a trigger output so you can send it to arpeggiators of old keyboards or use it as a clock for your modular or other studio gear.

This is the best looking CR-5000 I've ever seen. Check out the pictures. They are the pictures of the acutal item you are receiving. Also the volume pots are completely noise-free so for mixing and improvising on the fly you don't have to deal with scratchy pots. Mix instruments in and out of the patterns live with confidence!

This works fully with all sounds but the first row preset select button and the CY-8 arranger button sometimes need to be pressed a couple of times to select. The third row preset select button works but has to be held down and wiggled a bit to select. These flakey buttons are common with the CR-5000/CR-8000, Juno 6/60 and any other Roland product that uses them..."

ARP Avatar Patch Bay Expander Kit

via this auction

"This kit includes everything you need to convert you ARP Avatar in to a modular synthesizer. This modification brings most of the synthesizers functions out to patch points on the front panel. Features include a separate portamento for each VCO, easy access to all of the important functions of the synthesizer, and the synth will behave normally if no patch cables are inserted. Inserting a patch cable into a CV input will automatically route the incoming signal through the associated CV slider, giving the user full control over attenuating signals. Separate glide controls for each VCO allow lots of new sounds that a stock Avatar can't make.

We have one unit left until we make more later this year.

ARP Odyssey Model 2800- Fully Restored With Aftertouch

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"For sale is a fully restored ARP Odyssey Model 2800. This unit has the original ARP 4023 filter, which despite what you may read online, is not the Moog filter (ARP 4034, 4035). This unit has been restored by us and we have added some extra features such as a flexible aftertouch system, external audio input to the filter, and a single/dual trigger switch for the ADSR. (For legato playing. Same way Minimoog works.) The single dual trigger switch is located above the noise generator switch. This mod also disables retriggering of the LFO (LFO Free Run) The unit had been modified by a previous owner. These mods were all removed, and the holes drilled for the old mods were capped with the same style caps as used by ARP. This unit plays beautifully and is amazingly expressive with the aftertouch module. The aftertouch module contains its own triangle/square LFO, the rate and amplitude of which, can be controlled by aftertouch sensors underneath the keys. The aftertouch voltage, and the LFO signal can be routed to VCO1, VCO2, VCF, and the VCA in any way using the front panel controls. We have also added a switch on the left side of the keyboard that allows the sample and hold clock speed to be modulated with aftertouch.

Below is a full list of the electronics work done:

Keyboard bus bars replaced
Rubber key bushings replaced
Aftertouch sensor added to keybed
Aftertouch electronics added to panel
Switch that routes Aftertouch LFO to S&H clock added
ADSR and LFO Single/Multi Trigger mod added
Original power supply replaced with modern Power One linear PSU
All sliders removed, disassembled, tested, cleaned/polished, rebuilt. All bad carbon traces replaced. (This is important!)
All opamps, CMOS 4011 ICs replaced
All polarized capacitors replaced
Both VCOs completely rebuilt
Decoupling caps added to reduce bleed from VCOs and S&H mixer on oscillator board
All remaining electronics issues addressed, unit tuned, calibrated, 100% working.
Old power cord replaced
Aux Filter Input jack added"

ARP ODYSSEY MK1 Model 2800 with Kenton CV Mod

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Kenton CV / Gate / Trig / Filter Sockets Installed

This Arp Odyssey is in great physical shape and works well, but like most Arp's of this age, it has a few common flaws. Most of the sliders work fine but a few will need cleaned or replaced.
All slider caps are intact.
VCO1 MOD SLIDER (Only works at it's extremes, all the way up or all the way down, does nothing if the slider is positioned anywhere else)
VCO2 COARSE SLIDER (Slider does nothing below 200HZ)
VCO2 Fine SLIDER (Only works at its extremes)
All other sliders work as they should, some are a little more stiff than others but nothing major.
The keyboard works fine, but the bushings are all but gone, again common problem. Because of this, the keyboard is very "Klacky" The bushings are still available and are pretty cheap.

This Odyssey has the Kenton Electronics Sockets Upgrade. This upgrade gives the Odyssey CV, Gate, Trigger, and Filter inputs. Keep in mind that some of the cheaper MIDI/CV converters are not ideal for the Odyssey. In addition to CV and Gate, the Odyssey needs a Trigger pulse to control the envelopes. I used a Kenton Pro Solo II and an Elektron Analog Four(Neither are included in the sale of the Odyssey) and it worked out great.
Please check my feedback and buy with confidence. I would be happy to answer any questions and I request that all communication be done through the ebay messaging system."

Site note - the rezzy DS-10 reminded me of Underworld's Rez/Cowgirl from 1994 below. Two tracks off their Everything Everything album, Rez leads into Cowgirl. Anyone know what synth they used for it? I've read it was either the OSCar, ARP 2600 or possibly even the Nord Lead 1. You can find an article on the overall synths used for the album on Sound on Sound here.

"This is an 80's Polysynth Brass patch that I created on the Prophet 6. Unfortunately, the Prophet 6 only has 49 keys so I had to Midi in my Roland JV1000 to give me more keys for the left hand. Other than only having 49 keys it's a fun synth."
