Synth Stuff Ep. 40 - Korg Polysix [Custom White]

Published on May 6, 2018 tritonrecordings

"This is a friend's custom designed white Polysix! The Polysix was a competitor to the Roland Juno 6 & Juno 60. It's definitely more organic, less stable, and maybe even a bit dirtier than the Juno. This particular one seems to have a voice or two going out of tune, but that's what happens with these old things. I slightly prefer the Juno personally, but I do like how this isn't as clean and, dare I say, sterile compared to the Juno."

Club of the Knobs - COTK Bode Frequency Shifter - Moog 1630 Bode Shifter Clone SN 2538

via this auction

"This is a used Club of the Knobs - COTK - C1630. A clone of the Moog 1630 Bode Frequency Shifter. A really stunning module that has all the behavior, quirks, and richness of the original. I just want the rack space for other modules, like a COTK envelope follower, and a couple of others I'm thinking about :)

This is used. Built in November 2013, delivered in January or February of 2014. Serial number C 2538. It consumes 3U in width and is a full height module compatible with any Moog style cabinet format.

I've been using it with a QPS5 power supply (inside is a Power One linear supply) connected to a COTK power distribution strip. I've had no problems with this setup, but you will need to provide proper power for the module. See the COTK web site for technical details.

There is no "manual", but has the instruction page from the original Moog manual.

You will get what you see in the photos:

The module;
The power cable; and
Three spare lamps.

The lamps aren't hard to find. You can get them in bulk from Mouser, singles from I just think it's handy to have a couple of spares...

The last I checked, 5/5/2018, the new price was 970 Euros, about $1100.00 - $1200.00 USD, see COTK web site for pricing."

Moog DFAM Analog Percussion Synth 28 Min Techno Session w/Modular FX & Samples

Published on May 6, 2018 mylarmelodies

"I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I think the Moog DFAM is one of the most interesting analogue products to come out in years, from any company - you could play a (seriously nuts) show with only a DFAM, some delay, and a few samples - so having just got my very own one yesterday, the first thing I wanted to try was that. This was the result!

In this video I have clocked DFAM to the modular, and what you're hearing is:

1. Predominantly DFAM with added clocked stereo pingpong delay from Intellijel Rainmaker, and reverb from the Make Noise Erbe Verb (DFAM is on the channel marked '808' on the desk)
2. Plus occasional additional percussion from Tiptop Audio's One sampler (x2) plus the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alter and the ALM Akemie's Taiko. These are being sequenced by the modular via the Euclidean Circles module by VPME and the Abstract Data Event Boss.

So yes, as you hear...the DFAM is insane. Imagine it through a big system. Steve Dunnington @ Moog found a hell of a patch. I can not recommend it enough."

"I'd like to share some free bass sample packs I've made with my DIY modular synth. There are three packs, each featuring a different module. "This is a demo + explanation of the BEHRINGER RD-808 all analog drum machine prototype. Since it has been a very early prototype with hand written lables I was not allowed to record the line out directly since the unit wasn't ready for a proper sound demo. A pity. But we can hear here something about the features the machine will have and also a rough idea of its sonic impact."

1979 Moog Polymoog Keyboard

via this auction

This one was spotted and sent in via MATRIXSYNTH reader John Ryan. Note it is being sold for parts. You can find additional pics of the inside below.

"I picked this up at an estate sale, not knowing if it would work and also somewhat familiar with the complex design of it. The seller didn't have any info as to where it was stored, last used, etc.

It powers on, and the lights come on, but it does not produce any sounds. All of the preset buttons still seem to work except for number 4.

I did a few of the diagnostics that people recommend you do when getting a Polymoog, here's what I found:

I disconnected/reconnected all of the plug cables to the boards, and also took out and reseated all of the individual soundcards (there's one for each key).

I tested the resistance, for the 15+V, 15-, and 5+vols. There is some sort of short on the +15, and the short goes away when I disconnect the right hand circuit board, so it's pretty likely that's where the problem lies. I also tested the voltage for all three, and they were fine, in that regard.

Once I realized that it wasn't a working unit, I didn't go any further and didn't dismantle the keyboard, as restoring this is beyond my meager skills. All keys are intact and responsive to touch (meaning, they return to the top when you release them). The circuit boards seem pretty clean, as do all of the individual key cards.

There are no signs of any sort of bloated capacitors or anything that looks fried, and no strange smells or smoke when it is plugged in and on. Does not include the legs.

WMD MONOLITH Eurorack Keyboard Synthesizer System

via this auction

"The Monolith system is a fully functional modular system combined with the familiarity of a performance keyboard. It can be intimidating to begin using a modular system, but, with our system, players will be able to design almost any sound they can imagine intuitively and easily once they are familiar with the rudiments of modular patching. The Monolith is a pro level monosynth that is at home in the studio and on the stage, but it also serves as a bridge for users to learn modular synthesis.

The system includes 15 Modules:

2x Spectrum Oscillators
Pole Zero Filter
Amplitude Discrete VCA
S.P.O. Scaling Polarizer and Offset
Ultrafold wavefolder
Blender four channel crossfading mixer
Quad Attenuator
Toolbox utility module
Mini Slew function generator
Buffered Mult
LVLS Output Module
Keyscan module with Aftertouch, Velocity, and MIDI (in, out, and thru).
104 HP Width Space
Power Supply Included
25 Assorted Length Patch Cables Included
37-Key Keyboard"

Access Virus A - Desktop Virtual Analog Synthesizer w/ Rack Mount

via this auction

"Also including for free is the rack mount kit, as seen in the pictures attached to my desk rack. To install and uninstall is very easy, just unscrew 5 screws from the back and either attach the rack ears to mount it or the desktop stand if you want to use it on a flat surface."

See the second image below for the desk stand. Note the keys are not built in; it's just resting on them. That said, an affordable, light, three octave keyboard controller with a space to rest desktop synths could be a pretty cool product.

Update: speak of the devil... this just came in. I'm guessing that with blank panels would work. Curious how much it weighs though.
