DAWN OF THE MUMMY (Shuki Levy Tribute) by Everett Dudgeon (Prophet X)

Published on Nov 6, 2018 EverettDudgeon138

"I've covered some pretty well known themes to some pretty well known films (well amongst cult movie buffs anyway) but there's some real hidden gems out there such as Shuki Levy's score for Dawn Of The Mummy. The film itself is a bizarre mix of classic Universal/Hammer style Mummy film and Dawn Of The Dead....I guess that's where the title comes from haha. I have no idea what Levy used on the score but his main riff is just infectious and plays in different incarnations through the picture. I went for more of a driving, hard hitting death march type of approach. The only synth I used was the Sequential Prophet-X. Lots of choir sounds layered with some VS wavetables to give an unapologetically digital sound. The drums are all from the PX as well."

Election Day Jam

Published on Nov 6, 2018 Henry Birdseye Jr.

"I'd been tinkering with this for a couple days and thought it was time to record it. Still trying to NOT use the BSP except for drums.

The new love of my life is the Doboz XIIO, an apreggiator with eight pads on which you can program specific notes. I like how short sequences sound on the Rings from the XIIO (Xeee-yoh?)

I programmed the 2 rows of 4 notes like this:
Bb2 B 2 C#3 Eb3
Eb3 A 2 Ab2 F#3
and dance around the pads, while I play mostly black keys on the kayboard. The key board voice is a nice, fat, 3 VCOs (Z3000, Erika Back Waveshape VCO and a Braids running the HARM model) running thru a Korgasmatron dual filter whose cutoff is managed with a Koma Kommannder. The Beatstep Pro is only playing drums. A third voice is a Doboz Prizma controlling an E350 Morphing Terrarium and a simple pulse wave thru an E440 filter.

The voice mangling is clips stored on a micro SD card in a Disting Mk3 that runs into a Dervish DSP and that goes ito a Z5000 for more reverb and looping."

Derelict (Axoloti synth, OP1 as a controller)

Published on Nov 6, 2018 ludotex

"Just started messing around with Axoloti. At first I got it to make a portable reverb for the OP1. But it's more fun to make a synth out of it AND a reverb/delay. It's a Blade Runner synth :)

All sounds are coming from the Axoloti, the OP1 is just sending midi (notes and CC for the pots). Straight to the recorder you see on the image.

The patch is a drone, some sine wave, a saw, noise, some subtle lfos, some chorus, reverb and tape delay."

"Just a small jam with the Toraiz AS-1 providing the meandering resonant arpeggio generated by the crazy FutureRetro Zillion shift register sequencer.

The AS-1 was a pleasant surprise - it's built like a tank and contains one amazing synth voice from the Prophet 6. We're currently investigating the sound capabilities to its fullest, so be prepared for a sound exploration video in the near future!"

Kenton Pro Solo Mk3 — SynthFest 2018

Published on Nov 6, 2018 Sound On Sound magazine

"Modular synths are everywhere and with the popularity of the Eurorack format, they largely exist as part of a single, unified ecosystem. However, if you want to control your modular synth rig from a more traditional piece of MIDI gear, then you have a problem as Eurorack modules are generally controlled by control voltage (CV). SOS Reviews Editor Matt Houghton took a brief look at the new Kenton Pro Solo Mk3 at the recent SynthFest UK — an update to a well-loved problem-solving device.

Kenton have made a name for themselves as purveyors of useful boxes (converters, splitters etc.) for synth users and their Pro Solo Mk3 is featured accordingly. It keeps all the features of the Mk2 which Gordon Reid reviewed way back in 2006, including MIDI Thru, 16-bit D-A conversion for solid pitch performance and couple of AUX outputs for controlling parameters such as VCF, PWM or VCAs from an external controller.

The Mk3 provides three AUX outputs, each available on its own 3.5mm jack, giving you even greater control over different elements of your pre-MIDI or modular set up.

It’s set to be available very soon with a UK price tags of £158.40."

I bought this at Guitar Center myself so don’t worry, this isn’t sponsored and maybe it shows in my review, but that’s what I like doing. Anyways, enjoy the haunting and FINAL episode of OMSR. Antique black? Funny what people come up with. Pics of the inside below.

"Auctioning this Paia 3760 keyboard synthesizer. Most parts work. The octave switch only works on the last two settings. And not sure how the finger board thing works but I've tried using it and it doesn't seem to do much. But the speaker works and has great sound. The clips that hold the front keyboard lid onto the main case, the brackets are broken. The back lid brackets are still functional."

"The SH-32 is a 4-part multitimbral desktop synth module using new Wave Acceleration Synthesis to deliver up to 32 voices of fat synth waves and entirely new waveforms. The raw waveforms are sampled rather than mathematically generated and are actually multi-sampled across the octave ranges. There's also a full complement of knobs and sliders, analog-style 808 and 909 drums, DSP effects and a killer programmable arpeggiator."

The Son of Flynn – Daft Punk // 0-Coast cover

Published on Nov 4, 2018 Stefano Mattia

"Here is my 0-Coast cover of The Son of Flynn, from the amazing TRON: Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk.

It was not as easy as I initially thought, mostly because of technicalities with handling so many layers in Live, but I am quite happy how it turned out. The whole process was a great learning experience: I was able to deepen my knowledge on the 0-Coast and its sound shaping capabilities and to learn how external effects can substantially transform the sound. I also got some insights on how some of the 0-Coast limitations, such as the lack of a low-pass filter, can be partially overcome by Live's auto-filter.

The video shows the 0-Coast playing the main arpeggio line, with me changing balance and dynamics over time. The sound is then processed by the Specular Tempus to add that lush reverb background pad. The bass is run through the MXR stereo chorus pedal, and into the Specular Tempus set on the analog delay algorithm. The background strings-like patch's overtone and multiply controls are modulated through the MIDI-B LFO and the Slope, to give it that evolving buzzing character. The brass-like patch is modulated through Live's auto-filter to achieve that nice brightness swell.

Audio recorded and mixed in Ableton Live, mastered in iZotope Ozone.
Video shot on a Sony RX1, edited in Lumafusion.

Thanks for watching!"

Four Bricks Rook module -Shakmat Modular how fast record drums in eurorack demo

Published on Nov 6, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Folks.
I have a quick demo of the Four Bricks Rook module from Shakmat Modular .
shows here how in Record mode to record in less than 40 seconds Beat based on 4 sounds. you can see how quickly sounds to the grid, and that's why recording is simple for MPC, everything can be done on the fly giving quick access to creating great paterns, then a small roller in Fill mode and mute / unmute in Mute mode, I showed with drums in less than 2 minutes.
The module is interesting for me because I have been using MPC for many years, this workflow in modular system works great, of course it is only a small part of this module, there are also dividing patterns into parts or different lengths from 1 to 32 steps, load / save pattern and moving around between patterns created by us.
Of course I used clock to connect with our main clock from the system.
Four Bricks Rook- I'm damned surprised and happy"

Here Ken and John have a chuckle about it."
