Dire Dire Docks: Super Mario 64 [cover]

Published on Nov 1, 2019 MIDERA

"A labor of love. I have worked for weeks on this. I created the electric piano sound in the SY77 using FM synthesis alone. The strings are actually a preset - it seemed to sound very close to the original. The drums were created in the Machinedrum and I synthesized each of those sounds.

The electric piano part was recorded in one pass (even if the camera changed angles). I needed to prove to myself that I could play this whole peice through. There is actually no MIDI data involved. Everything (apart from the drums) were played real-time by me.

This was a lot of fun to create, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Why this song? I have no idea - but I love it. I learned the whole thing in one night, but it took quite a while to figure out how to play it fast enough. I learned everything by ear. I can't read music well enough to do things that way, so some notes are probably wrong (but I don't think they are)."

Dove Audio Modular Rig Walkthrough

Published on Nov 1, 2019 DoveAudio

"A few people have asked what I use to make music and modules with. The purpose of this rig is two fold, one to help me develop and test modules with a variety of other modules and also for demonstration purposes.
There's a good mix of module manufacturers in there."

Testing Lo-Fi Diy Plate Reverb with Cymbal & Contact Mic Ft Novation Circuit Synth & Drum Machine

Published on Nov 1, 2019 Sound Provider

"I was curious to test this Lo-fi Diy Plate reverb technique , so here we are

For this I use a Speaker under the cymbal to excite it, and use the contact mic to record the result, to control the volume of the speaker I use one Aux of my Mixer.

After few tests I feel that the reverb can be too long and high for some percussions, but can be useful on some synth or sound design it can also be a nice layer on Drone Music .May be I ll use this technique on dub part or techno tracks but with sidechain and more heavy EQ on it. I also think to try this with different cymbals to listen to result."

-WOKE-CALC- Novation Summit Microtuning performance with accompanying sonic chums

Published on Nov 1, 2019 -CALC-

"Woke up this morning to some wonderful news so decided to record this track to celebrate.

Using a Scala microtuning on both Summit voices for a very slightly off kilter tonality, the Main Summit voice is further pushed with some delightful Oto Bam and there's growly and glitchy Octatrack/Circuit through the Ottobit Jnr goodness thrown in too. All underpinned with a TR-08 Kick

Summit is genuinely an incredible instrument!!!!! Try one out and you'll see."

Industrial Music Electronics Bionic Lester MKIII with QD + Delta V

Published on Nov 1, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"The Industrial Music Electronics Bionic Lester MkIII is a slippery beast, capable of shifting from squelchy lowpass to gritty comb filtering/delays at a moment's notice. Paired here with the Mutable Plaits, Cosmotronic Delta-V, and vpme.de Quad Drum, it provides the backbone for a series of short jams and timbral explorations.

Bionic Lester MkIII is a dual digital filter inspired by the golden era of Virtual Analog synthesis: two filters with mode morphing, preset memory, and overdrive at the input, providing conventional lowpass, highpass, and bandpass, as well as the opportunity for comb filtering, intense feedback, multi-peak filtering, and more. The vpme.de QD is a quad digital drum module that can act as a sample player, wavetable oscillator, or digital drum modeler. Cosmotronic's Delta-V is a slope generator borne from the legacy of the Serge DUSG, adding two VCAs for easy end-of-chain voice construction.

Flame Instruments Crossmix -Dual Crossfader recorder

Published on Nov 1, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Today I have another movie with the newest recorder from Flame Instruments.
Crossmix allows you to enter two audio sources or a CV, and do a cross between them and record it, then automatically play it in a loop mode or as you prefer as one shot.
Here I used Polyend Preset as the sequencer and two separately voices from the Noisy Oscillator from Modor module.
For this I used the Altar filter from Ritual for one voice and for the other I also used the X-4 module from Flame -Quad envelope vca for EG. I wanted both voices to be different so that you could see the cross recording.
make this patch in my latest case RackBrute 6U from arturia"

bass station 2 + dd-200 - deep dive

"please support the channel: https://impurfekt.bandcamp.com

using a saw + triangle patch on the bass station 2 to explore every nook and cranny of the boss dd-200 delay pedal.

the dd-200 is a digital delay pedal with stereo in/out and a multitude of algorithms. it is essentially a simplified dd-500 with knob-per-function control. the algorithms sound smoother to my ears but i no longer have a dd-500 for a side-by-side comparison.

this was a lot of fun. i may make a habit of it.

skip to algorithm:
0:17 standard
4:52 analog
8:22 tape
11:58 drum
15:10 shimmer
18:31 tera echo
21:49 pad echo
24:29 pattern
28:49 lo-fi
31:23 dual
34:28 ducking

"A very rare prototype Synthi Hi-Fli, dating from 1972, in excellent condition following a full overhaul by EMS earlier this year.
One of only ten pre-production units made in 1972. David Gilmour reputedly still owns two of them…

Ultra-rare prototype EMS Synthi Hi-Fli – this is a knob-twiddler’s dream of an effect and the ultimate in hens’ teeth: your guitar will never sound the same again.

Different sound and spec to a standard Hi-Fli – this is the second such unit we’ve had and it broke my heart to sell the last one (I’ve been a committed HiFli nut since I bought my first one many years ago and have always had at least one in the studio ever since).

The prototypes don’t have the growl function, which was introduced about 18 months later. Production Hi-Flis all have the Buzz switch, but only the first ten prototypes had the Fuzz switch, which adds some interesting colouration to the up and down-octave sounds.

Ten production prototype Hi-Flis were made in 1972 but a redesign quickly followed the launch at the Frankfurt Fair to try to reduce the factory cost (the prototype design is not especially ergonomic for a guitar player to use – you have to lean back somewhat to access the pedals underneath the main unit). This original design features a removable aluminium pole which plugs into the underside of the main console and the top of the base unit, acting both as a stand and a conduit for power and signal connections (pole not included with this unit). The heavy-duty nylon-dipped base houses the power supply and sturdy twin pedals.

Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd is reputed to still have two of these original units, which, according to Phil Taylor were first used for the Dark Side of The Moon tour that started in May 1973 at Earls Court. Opinion is divided as to whether a Hi-Fli featured on the DSOTM recordings: I can only say that it certainly sounds like it did.
Number one in Analogman Tom’s list of rare guitar effects from his excellent book.
Used by David Gilmour – see this Gilmourish blog for further details – he bought a prototype in 1972 and from what he recalls it was “very, very expensive”; Gilmourish also suggest it was used during the recording of Dark Side Of The Moon

Korg Poly-61 | A Raw and Beautiful Synth | 64 NEW PATCHES BY ESPEN KRAFT

Published on Nov 1, 2019 Espen Kraft

"The Korg Poly-61, released in 1982 as the follow-up to the PolySix. Many consider the Poly-61 inferior to the PolySix, because it sounds so basic, but that is also its strenght. Sounds from this just blend in so well with other sounds and especially for Italo Disco and early, more raw type of synthpop.
I love this synth just for its raw and unpolished sound.

I've created 64 new patches that can be loaded into this synth to get that raw feeling going. These sounds can be bought and downloaded here:
