Auza Audio Wave Packets Module Test - MATTHS #shorts

video upload by MATTHS

via Auza Audio

Enveloped actions. Dynamic oscillations.

Bursts of energy. Capsulated audio.

Wave Packets is the first Eurorack module from design team Auza. Capable of generating complex envelopes, modulation signals and audio, the module allows you to sculpt your sound by producing time-limited signals or “wave packets”. Each wave packet is determined in the four primary dimensions of time, depth, frequency and wave shape. With five distinct unipolar and bipolar outputs, an infinite and unique range of shapes and sounds can be produced: an envelope growing from nothing to wild oscillation, a punchy bass drum with monstrous pitch decay, a ping-multiplied burst generator, an amplitude-varying LFO or timbre-morphing oscillator. Our novel model combines frequency-dynamic oscillation and function generation for crafting modulation and audio signals that fuel creativity. What emerges is a highly versatile production tool kit in 16HP.

The module can operate in three excitation modes: trigger, gate, and cycle. Once animated, the 3 depth sliders sculpt the wave packet’s overall contours, whilst the wave shape, glide and 3 frequency controls determine its oscillations through time. The five outputs map five distinct interactions between the contour function and oscillations. These can be summarised as: the pure contour, the unipolar wave, the resonating contour, the capsulated oscillator and the pure oscillator. As the outputs are simultaneously utilisable the module is fully self-patchable, allowing for new wave packet models to be achieved. Examples include patching a unipolar output into wave shape CV for morphing across timbres, or patching a bipolar output into depth CV to achieve audio-rate modulation. By utilising multiple outputs at the same time, Wave Packets can act as a hub for orchestrating movement across new and exciting patches.

Ambient jam with the Tasty Chips GR-1, Sequential Take 5, and Strymon NightSky

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jayhosking
A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

There are few options for granular synthesis in the hardware world. The Tasty Chips GR-1 has the right level of control, via its knobs and faders, and visual feedback, via its generous screen, to make granular synthesis fast, fun, and hands-on. Plus it's got 11-voice polyphony, four different timbres to play all at once, a dedicated filter on each timbre, and some effects for in a pinch. Not only can you create granular synth sounds, but you can also play looped "clouds" of the sample, or just straight sample playback at different rates, pitches, and directions. In short, the GR-1 overcomes all my issues with using software granular on (for example) my iPad, and makes the process just as fun as using subtractive synthesis.

Speaking of subtractive synths, the Take 5 continues to be a gem. Considering it's an introductory synth in the Sequential line-up, it is an amazing sounding synth with an excellent design, a nice keybed, and useable effects. It's rare to find a polysynth with a strong low end, but the Take 5 really can fill out the spectrum. I love it.

This track is the result of my Patreon's holiday collaboration, in which we all sent samples to a recipient, and received samples from a "secret syntha", and made songs from these samples. It culminated in a listening party on New Year's Eve and was a ton of fun. Thanks so much to Som Shankhar (pad sample) and jean-louis proust (drum sample) for the inspiration and the loops here!

Tasty Chips GR-1 - Three granular loops (piano, pad, sparkle) and one playback loop (drums)
Strymon NightSky - Reverb for the GR-1
Sequential Take 5 - Main synth pad

Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master."

Imaginator by Dave Bessell and Liam Boyle

Analogue synth, Eurorack, modular, Dave Bessell, Liam Boyle, 360 , VR, ambient, psychedelic visuals video upload by David Bessell

"New release from Dave Bessell (Node) and Liam Boyle (soundtrack composer) on Groove Unlimited. The album is titled Imaginator and was released on 1st Jan 2022.

A compelling release of electronic music on the borders between ambient, soundtrack and Berlin school with wide ranging influences from prog to techno, the Bowie/Eno electronic collaborations, Krautrock, classical and probably some more things that we forgot to list! As such it is a varied album with melodic tracks, atmospheres and creative sound design using the full range of analogue keyboards and modular synths along with a little treated guitar. On a couple of tracks an unusual instrument appears called an Aum guitar which is designed to be played with an ebow and sounds nothing like a guitar! Overall it is a good showcase for what can be done with these instruments in the hands of these experienced and well respected musicians.

This release also has an interesting immersive promotional video filmed in 360/VR. [above]

Available from bandcamp and the Groove Unlimited website as CD or download. This one will repay repeated listenings as it reveals its multiple layers."

Ebashi Audio Eurorack Modules Including Dual Aries PMS 338 PP

Ebashi Audio CMOS 7555 CORE VCO /259 Timbre EXP /Triple LFO First touch ( no talking ) video upload by Dziam Bass

Ebashi Audio is a new maker of eurorack modules. You'll find their modules further below, including one based on the vintage Aries PMS-338 VCO. Note Nonlinear Circuits made one as well. The above video features the CMOS 7555 CORE VCO, 259 Timbre EXP, and Triple LFO (pics and descriptions for each further below).

Video description:

"It features Linear AC and Exponential FM inputs with attenuators, one Hard Sync input and a 1V / Octave tacking input, output and offset switch.

Connecting a signal to the EXP FM input will change the pitch of the oscillator.

The H-Sync and FM functions produce a full sound, and it octave tracks very well.

This VCO features four waveforms: Sine, Triangle, Ramp and Pulse wave.

There are trimpots for 1Volt / Octave tuning, High Frequency tracking, and Ramp wave connection. There are two trimpots for the sine wave: one for roundness and one for symmetry. The roundness trimmer also adjusts the amplitude of the sine wave a little.

Parameters are already set. If you would like to adjust these you can do it by ear or using an oscilloscope.

This 7555 VCO also features a 3-way switch providing 3 frequency ranges: MID, VCO and LFO.

The back of the module allows you to ‘pre patch’ various functions.

The Ebashi 259 Timbre module is a dual wavefolder inspired by the famous Timbre section of the Buchla 259 oscillator as implemented in the Easel.

There are four CV inputs, the first and fourth can be controlled with an attenuverter.

Two IN attenuators control the overall wavefold amount of each wavefolder.

Two inputs allow two oscillators to drive the Dual 295 Buchla Timbre simultaneously.

A switch enables the rich timbres of both wavefolders to be shaped in series or parallel.

A triple low frequency oscillator that provides manually variable wave shapes in a wide range of frequencies.

Two waveforms are available: triangle, and square wave.

Rate and Depth of each LFO can be adjusted and an independent 3-way switch provides 3 frequency ranges: MID, VCO or LFO.

The module also offers three outputs (A, B & C) which can be conveniently mixed down and out.

The back of the module allows you to ‘pre patch’ each of the four outputs.
The back of the module allows you to ‘pre patch’ various functions, including CV 1 and 4 as well as both inputs and outputs. There are also two trimpots for gain adjustment."

Cherry Audio Quadra | Getting Started

video upload by Cherry Audio

"In this video, we'll be covering the basics of getting started with the Cherry Audio Quadra as well as covering some frequently asked questions when using this unique and powerful instrument.

The Cherry Audio Quadra is a super-accurate and immensely improved emulation of the ARP Quadra synthesizer, originally released in 1978 - a rare and coveted “unicorn” instrument in the synthesizer world, reproduced for the first time as a virtual instrument.

We've wildly expanded it for an experience that blows away the real thing in every conceivable way. Each of its four sections is independently assignable to any region of the keyboard for endless splitting and layering flexibility. The overall sound quality has been improved for a richer and fatter tone. And not only did we make a killer emulation of the onboard phaser effect, we added a stereo chorus/flanger, a syncable echo, and studio-quality reverb - all individually routable for unprecedented effects flexibility.

The Magical Sound of the Wing Pinger

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"First proper play with the Wing Pinger, an outstanding new instrument from Meng Qi. It can move from very gentle arping melodies to harsh noise in the blink of an eye. You can play the keyboard and latch the notes on each and build up layers of sound. Here I'm using it with the Bugbrand PT Delay and a little bit of reverb from the Eventide H9. Try and listen in stereo or on headphones if you can, to feel the sound move around you. More of this here: https://scanner.bandcamp.com/album/wi...

And yes, there was an earth hum issue here with noise. I'm aware of this and apologise!"

via this auction w/ original box

Note this listing is not for the same unit in the video above; it was just included in the listing as a demo of the Wing Pinger in general and hasn't been featured here before.

"The Wing Pinger is a remarkable new analog music instrument that allows you to combine melody and noise in perfect harmony. Thanks to a highly playable interface, this latest product offering from Meng Qi is actually many things all at the same time.

The Wing Pinger is designed for musicians and non-musicians alike. It’s composed of a pair of 4-pole resonant low pass filters and a network of peripheral logic circuits. The filters can be cross “pinged” and modulated, both directly and by generated step signals.

Plain and simple, this delivers an instrument capable of producing continually evolving music across the spectrum, from controlled to chaotic. The finely tuned parameter range and intuitive interface allow players to perform entirely on intuition, producing ever-changing and rich-sounding ambient, noise or meditative music with minimal or zero user interaction.

The Wing Pinger is also at home in any musical environment. For example, it can be used as a stand-alone instrument or with whatever gear you have. The unit is equipped with both MIDI and CV I/O and can ping literally anything that has an audio or trigger input and output or emits a decaying sound."

video upload by psychgrave

"We run across these things all the time, but what do they do? I finally picked one up, so let's find out. It seems that it has 2 modes: playback and arpeggiate. Just input some notes from a MIDI keyboard and it will play them back as 1/6th notes. Alternatively, it can play them back as an arpeggio, giving the sequence more life. Here I also demonstrate how it sequences and arpeggiates based on the order in which you input the notes, so it's pretty flexible in that regard. This is all I have been able to figure out. Please don't ask about any other features. However, if you know more about it, please leave comments. There are very few ME20A videos on here, so I thought I'd put up a useful one. MIDI to the SH-2 provided by Kenton Pro Solo MKII."

"Hand painted & circuit bent PSS-140. Modified with a data patch bay, data interrupt switches, vibrato/glitch body contact, quick reset button, and line out.

Totally functional and in good condition. Its hand painted, so the paint job isn’t perfect (a couple smudges and some minor wear, see last few photos) but nothing major. The battery compartment is in good shape, and the battery cover is included! I only removed it for the photo to show the condition inside.

All of the original PSS-140 features are intact and unaffected when the data bend switches are turned off.

Comes with the keyboard, 2 patch cables, the original box that came with the PSS-140, and a short manual for operating the data switches & patch bay."

Original ARP Sequencer model 1613

via this auction

"A classic sequencer of the 70's. You create your sequences with the sliders. Adjust the sliders to change pitch while each slider represents a sixteenth note, for example, in the 1 bar pattern it loops. It uses the ancient Control Voltage (CV) and Gate protocols to play your sequences on another analog synthesizer. Because of the various types of CV/Gate used by different makers at the time, the ARP Sequencer works perfectly with the ARP , , , and other ARP synthesizers as well as Roland, Oberheim and Sequential Circuits.

Once you get it working it's fun and easy to learn. Use it to create continuous arpeggios or simple sequences of patterns for your vintage analog gear. Tweak it in real-time as you create or perform, it's very hands-on. It has a classic and recognizable character"
