Introducing The Memetune Annual 2023 - Book & Music by Benge

video upload by zack dagoba

Benge previously brought us 13 Systems, and 20 Systems, praised by Brian Eno back in 2008. You can find them and more on BandCamp.

"The Memetune Programme Annual 2023 takes the form of an A4 hardback book and double CD album, which compliments and celebrates the first six episodes of Benge’s debut television series, made at his Memetune Electronic Music Studio in 2022

To quote Benge from the introduction to the Annual: 'It was always such a thrill, during my teenage years, to discover a new annual compendium from one of my favourite bands, comics or in particular one belonging to a favourite TV series, such as Blake’s 7 or Space 1999

The photos and information contained in those pages always left me wanting to watch the next series ever more eagerly

And so it is an even greater thrill for me to be able to be presenting my very own annual compendium, derived from the content of my recent TV series

I do hope that this book will inspire similar feelings in you, and moreover, whet your appetite for the next series of The Memetune Programme'

The book is divided into the following sections:

SWITCHED ON - Featuring in-depth discussions about the history and development of the synthesiser over the years, including pictures, diagrams and feature guides of many classic and iconic instruments

SYNTHESISER CLUB - A very vintage look at a synthesiser classic or three

PATCHING TODAY - A deep dive into vintage modular systems and how to set up a patch on them, starting from scratch

VIDEO LAB - A look at old video equipment and how to create experimental visuals using it

The two CDs included inside the book feature all the music from the series, written and performed by Benge to complement the programmes. CD1 contains 33 synthesiser demos which map out the history of synthesisers through the years. CD2 has all the theme tunes, idents and incidental music Benge made for the series

The book will be released on February 3rd 2023 via Bandcamp. Follow the link to Benge’s merch page here: zackdagoba.bandcamp.com/merch

The digital version of the album can be pre-ordered here: zackdagoba.bandcamp.com/album/the-memetune-programme-album"

"The first half of this album (tracks 1 to 33) is made up of the demonstration tracks made by Benge for his TV series 'The Memetune Programme'. The tracks were performed live on each instrument and filmed for the television programmes

The second half (tracks 34 to 55) contains the theme tunes, idents and incidental music from the TV series

To watch the full episodes, please search on YouTube for "the memetune programme by benge" [or scroll down posts here on MATRIXSYNTH]

Please take a look at the Memetune Annual 2023 which is a limited edition A4 hardback book based on the TV series. The book includes two CDs inside, with the music from this release on them. It will be available to buy from the merch section here on the 3rd February 2023"

New Loops Diva Emphasis (U-he Diva Presets)

video upload by New Loops

"New Loops has announced the release of ‘Emphasis’, a new sound bank for U-he Diva. Here's what they say:
'Emphasis’ Diva presets – a new collection of expressive and creative Diva presets with an ‘emphasis’ on the filter and resonance. Diva has several filter models, each with a different character. This sound bank explores these filters in depth, pushing them to the limit to bring out harmonics, overtones, and reveal their less-than-obvious idiosyncrasies.

This Diva soundset is suitable for a wide range of styles of electronic music, including ambient and chillout, cinematic, soundtrack and film scores, electronica, synth music, and game music, and is also useful for trap, hip hop, future bass, house, techno, trance, and many more.'
Intro Price: £13.99 until January 31st, 2023 (Reg. £19.99). More info and free demo: https://newloops.com/products/emphasis-diva-presets

Korg Wavestate - "Meditation" Soundset (40 Exclusive Performances)

video upload by LFOstore

https://sellfy.com/lfo/

"Take a deep breath and get ready to transform your beloved Korg Wavestate into a mind-expanding device that will take you on an inner journey through the universe of soundscapes! This soundbank will allow you and your listeners to become the living resonators tuned to peace and harmony, new states of consciousness, relaxation and meditation.

For centuries, in various spiritual traditions of the world, music has been used by man to achieve elevated states of consciousness, as well as healing the soul and the body. In ancient Egypt there was the principle called “everything is vibration”, and in India there is a whole system of internal transformation through sound or tone, known as nada yoga, based on the premise that the universe and everything in it, including people, are composed of sound vibrations.

This superb soundbank features live recorded instruments used for meditation and sound therapy; magic pads that allow you to merge with nature or outer spaces; all kinds of arpeggios that will greatly decorate your musical material; as well as exciting atmospheric sounds, leads and plucks, 40 exclusive presets are waiting for your action! They are suitable for various styles of music - for cinematics, ambient, electronic dance music, futuristic experiments or even adding a retro flavour to your music.

If you are brave enough to challenge this wide universe of sound, then join us in this wonderful journey!

Black Corporation ISE-NIN: Stereo Patches 2

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Second installment of some original binaural/stereo patches for LR listening. Each layer is panned 40%. Some reverb added but this has not been EQ'd.

I've had the synth for a few weeks and am starting to get familiar with it. The ISE-NIN is eminently programmable and easy to go get great sounds out of! It can achieve some pleasant stereo effects and I hope this is reflected in the video. The approach here was to start with the same patch in each layer and add variations between the two (eg fine tuning, pulse width, LFO mod, etc). The twin LFO's retrigger on a key press and I think a free-running LFO would do more favors for binaural patches so I'm hoping for this option in an update. I've made 50 stereo patches so far and it'll be easy to fill up the whole bank!"

"Vintage S.A.I 4 channel music sequential 1970s 80s Analog Audio Music Production"

If anyone knows more about this unit, feel free to comment. It appears to be a pulse trigger sequencer or possibley a drum machine?

You can see four leds on the front left. Under and to the right you can see buttons for On, Pulse, Seq, and 1 - 4, followed by SEQ Speed, and Music Level. The back only has two 1/4" jacks and what appears to be two propietary? If anyone can ID the other two, let us know.

The number of jacks and the Music Level knob makes me question whether it's a trigger device vs. having its own sounds. If it were a trigger device you'd think there would be four 1/4" outs, so more likely some sort of rhythm machine?

If you know, let us know. Also if you know of any other products from SAi or any additional info on them let us know.

This one was spotted and sent in via M Me.

"Great condition, pro serviced at Rosen Sound last year….

The CS-40m is a duophonic (2-voice) analog synthesizer that was introduced in 1979. Although Yamaha had already conquered polyphony with their legendary 8-voice CS-80, the CS-40m offered a more affordable approach to something other than a mono-synth. It has a semi-compact 44 note (3 1/2 octave) keyboard, 36 knobs, 12 sliders and over a dozen buttons for easy hands-on performance and editing. There are also 20 patches of memory which can be off-loaded to cassette tape."

North Coast Synthesis MIDDLE PATH VCO / patch #2 / cross FM patch

video upload by BRiES

"Another patch/demonstration with the Middle Path VCO by North Coast Synthesis.

Thanks to Tom ( @ThreetomModular ) who let me borrow this module to explore it a little bit.
This Complex VCO is mentioned by Tom (in part two of the documentary: https://youtu.be/eqYcX3_Ow14 ) as being a very interesting module to DIY, because all the schematics for the circuits are provided in the build manual. This manual is a 60 page long document that shows every aspect of the build, which is very useful if you want to learn about those kind of electronic circuits."
