Dr. Endo explores LIVEN Ambient Ø - #2

video upload by SONICWARE

For the ATMOS layer, I selected the ATMOS 2 (with FM) from the six structures of Blendwave Modulation Synthesis to create a bell-like sound.

Additionally, I entered notes into 5 random steps out of the 16 steps, and enabled the Random Sequence mode so that a different phrase would be played each time.

Any Colour You Like (Dark Side of the Moon) Pink Floyd: Synthi AKS

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"The Mind-Blowing EMS VCS3 part in Pink Floyd's Any Colour You Like.
S1: Ep1
Demo of the Synthi AKS solo from 'Any Colour You Like' from the legendary 'Dark Side of the Moon' Album - explained by Andy Whitmore at Greystoke Studio.
Dark Side of the Moon is a studio album released in 1973 - recorded at Abbey Road Studios - it took 7 months to record.
The Synthi AKS is wrongly credited on the album as EMS VCS3 - but the documentary videos clearly show David Gilmour, Roger Waters & Richard Wright playing the synth in my video.

The VCS 3 (or VCS3; an initialism for Voltage Controlled Studio, version) is a portable analog synthesiser with a flexible semi-modular voice architecture, by Electronic Music Studios (London) Limited (EMS) in 1969.
This product was called various names by EMS. For example, the printed logo written to the front left of products are: V.C.S. 3 or The Putney (VCS 3) on the earlier version, then The Synthi (VCS 3) II on the later version (Synthi VCS 3 II).

The VCS 3's basic design was reused by EMS in many other of their own products, most notably in the EMS Synthi 100 (1971), and the Synthi A (1971) and AKS (1972) (essentially a VCS 3 housed in a plastic briefcase). The AKS also has a sequencer built into the keyboard in the lid."

Siel Opera 6 Siel DK600 - Final Systematic Testing

video upload by tonetweakers

"Here’s the Seil opera 6 (also known as the siel DK600) that we just finished servicing. This instrument was serviced by another tech before our customer bought it. That tech did a bad job, requiring us to waste many more hours fixing what he failed to fix. This is unfortunately common these days with lots of unqualified people trying to save money by doing repairs themselves. As you can see from the video, it’s now in perfect working order. We tend to avoid dealing in SIEL products because the value of the time it takes to properly service things to our standards can exceed the value of the item itself. Here’s a rare opportunity to buy a Siel Opera 6 from us. It’ll be up on our website soon."

Roland S-1 and CME WIDI Jack Proof of Concept Quick Minute

video upload by boxoftextures

"Just got a Roland S-1 synthesizer (tiny!), and then maybe a week later got a CME WIDI Jack to go with it. This was the first time hooking them together, along with an Xkey Air. Worked really well, and is a super portable setup. This is just a quick minute video just to show it all working, so not an in-depth exploration.

I already have several Xkey Airs, and have used them with my several CME WIDI Masters. I could definitely see getting two or three more S-1s, WIDI Jacks, and Xkeys. Could fit an entire live setup in a backpack that way.

This is 100% S-1, no external effects where used."

Amie Waters uses synthesizers and vibes to create emotive and moving covers from your favorite movies, tv shows and video games. Some of her most well known work was made under her old name, Ace Waters, which includes Covers from Undertale, Zelda, and more. Her music covers a wide range of styles, from ambient mood pieces to progressive synth rock and everything in between."

Ambient jam with Novation AFX Station, Vongon Replay, Empress Zoia

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jayhosking
A live, semi-improvised synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

I'm on an island taking a bit of time to relax and recharge, and have been spending most of my days doing anything but music: reading, swimming, hiking, and so on. I keep the Novation AFX Station up on the island because it's small and because, well, I have more than one mono synth.

But I think I have to bring this thing home with me. The AFX Station (i.e. the Bass Station II) is just such a remarkable synth, maybe the most underrated synth I can think of. A phenomenal sound with two filters and two drives, it can produce a wider variety of timbres than most mono synths, while also having a fantastic layout for patch design, a pretty unique sequencer/arpeggiator that introduces rhythms, a great portable size, and all the other bells and whistles people love (AFX mode, paraphony, etc.). The only thing I wish it had was a "set sound to panel settings" mode. Otherwise, I am regularly impressed with the AFX Station.

I also brought the Vongon Replay with me because it's quite portable and very immediate in its setup. Yes, I know all its flaws quite well, but a small polysynth that sounds good, has everything I need already on the panel, and has a latchable arpeggiator is quite handy. Once I had a sound on the AFX Station, I played an arp, and the song was basically there.

And for effects on the whole thing, the Empress Zoia came through. I also keep this one on the island because it can be whatever effects I need it to be, and because it's extremely flexible with how you set it up for routing. Here, I've set it to have to mono audio signals coming in, and sending a stereo effected signal out, something that most pedals can't do. Plus, Empress makes great effects, and having their delay and reverb at the same time is awesome.

All in all, a very inspiring setup with great results.

Thanks for listening.

Novation AFX Station - Melody/bass mono synth
Vongon Replay - Latched arpeggio with slow attack
Empress Zoia - Reverb, delay, and special sauce on both synths

Performed and recorded live to a stereo input, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

Bad Gear - Technox

"Today we are going to talk about Quasimidi Technox. The sole and only purpose of this German synthesizer from the heydays of actually making money with electronic music is very, very clear: showing up on Bad Gear 30 years later and giving me yet another excuse to annoy you with a truckload of half-finished meme techno.

"Rare ARP Pro Soloist Restored by Custom Vintage Keyboards in Los Angeles. Nothing else sounds like it.

Even after restoration, this synth is fragile, temperamental and needs a long warm up, so should only be used in the studio. The original flimsy particleboard bottom has been replaced with a real wood one and all the aftertouch has been gone through and feels excellent. A previous owner scratched some letters near the output jack, and one of the end cheeks has a square mark from a sticker, but otherwise this is in good cosmetic condition."

"This is the original 'Hobbyton' from Dr. Bohm. It is a sytolphone organ in the original plexiglass case.

The organ was built in the early 80s and is in excellent and clean condition. It is played with a contact pen.

The organ is tunable, 2 octaves switchable and has a vibrato function as additional effect.. The device has its own amplifier and speaker.

The original user manual with music samples is included and also comes with the original instructions manual.

The device is works with a 9V block battery (not included). The Böhm Hobbyton is in used, but excellent condition and works 100%."

Korg SR-120 Analog Drum Machine One-of-A-Kind PROTOTYPE Made in Japan

"This is the original, one-of-kind prototype for an upgraded version of the Korg SR-120 analog drum machine. An engineer decided that the tempo dial on the SR-120 was too limited with regard to the beats per minute choices, so he designed this prototype, employing a dual-dial configuration, which gives the user infinitesimally more control over the BPM. While well-received by the Korg creative team, the suits decided that the production costs would be too high. It remains a singular gem.

The machine is contained in a super-protective case that makes it highly portable. You simply unlatch the top to expose the unit’s panel. It’s in superb condition and perfect working order."

It is all in great condition save for a broken toggle shaft/arm on the “Sweep Up” lever. Lever still functions and would probably be easily remedied with a replacement plastic rod and some super glue. I will leave that to the new owner. (see pics)"

Modor NF-1 soundscape IV - Thicket

video upload by MIDERA

"One of the more unique synths I've used. I had reached out to Marcel at Modor and had feature requests... The reality is - those requests were already features. I just didn't have a new enough manual! It has an excellent UI. The only thing I'd love to see is an easier way to navigate the menu (if you press the menu button you have 1-2 seconds to decide if that's the menu setting you want to enter - if you do nothing, you enter the sub menu of that. I'd love to see it so that you can cycle through them at your leisure without entering them. Small complaint, if you can call it that). Mine is the 'old version' which has 'loose potentiometers' and I really don't understand that complaint. The knobs feel just fine. Strange.
