Nightverb: Drone and freeze demo (no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Here's the Erica Synths Nightverb paired with a DB-01 and Gamechanger Audio Light pedal; then with a DB-01 and Zen delay. In both cases I'm testing drone and freeze settings. The knob position of the Nightverb reflect the actual values. I'm still getting used to the freeze and in hindsight would probably have been better used with some more pad-like chord, but live 'n learn guvna. Routing-wise the Nightverb is always at the end of the chain. When using the freeze function its useful to have a second effect in series so the contrast between the frozen reverb and the dry sound isn't too jarring.

Headphones will help hear some of the beautiful grit and superlow bass.

So after a couple of weeks use what's my opinion of the Nightverb? Well, have you ever used one of the 90s digital synths that has just a single knob or slider to change parameter values? They're a colossal pain to program and feel like they're trying to force you into just jumping between presets. Then compare that to a knob-per-function synth. That's where I am with the Nightverb: Reverb that you play, an instrument that can be tweaked to suit the moment, backed up then cranked. After all, one of the main advantages of hardware over software is that you can do "real time automation" as you play, and it's fun. In fact in all this time I still haven't saved a single Nightverb sound :)

As usual there is no processing in the DAW other than once or twice where I manually adjusted the volume. But there's no effects, compression or limiting etc. Sometimes there's a little high-frequency which is from the Zen. There is no sound source connected to the Acidbox, it's generating it's own sound from high resonance and the LFO. Let me know if there's anything else you want to see and hear.

Synth Stuff Ep. 87 - Oberheim TEO-5

video upload by tritonrecordings

"I've mentioned many times that I'm a massive fan of the Oberheim sound. When I first got word of the TEO-5, I first thought it was a photoshopped Take 5...but when I learned it was real, I was interested. I was worried though; will it sound like an Oberheim, or will it be more like the OB-6? Fortunately, it sounds like an Oberheim. It has that classic Oberheim sharpness and sizzle. I love the OBX8, but I sure wish it had the blue stripes look, so I was happy to see that on the TEO-5. It's the little things! The form factor is a bit small, but that means I don't necessarily have to part with my trusty Matrix-6 to fit one into the studio. I don't know what else to say...I love this thing."

"This one is in excellent cosmetic condition and working 100%. It has just been serviced with quite a bit of restoration from Ed Rose, The Simmons Guy. It is ready to be used and needs nothing! As the title says, this one has Tubbutec uniPulse midi. I doubt there is another for sale anywhere that is as nice cosmetically and that has had the same amount of restoration besides the other one I have listed. A quick demo is available on Facebook from The Simmons Guy. As you can see, this is the standard set with Bass, Snare, and three Tom modules. This listing is for the drum synth only and no pads or hardware are included. Not sold as-is!"

ONEIROI by Befaco | First Patch

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Oneiroi is Greek for 'dreams', or rather the mythological personification of entities that bring you dreams and nightmares. It's hard to compare it to any existing module, VST or hardware synth. There's a supporting VCO with a sinewave and a supersaw/wavetable generator, that can be detuned and set to an offset. There's a looper with a five second buffer. The looper is used to generate the waves in the wavetable, so it's more like a dynamic texture generator. The looper's window size can be set to milliseconds so it can become a wavetable itself with a buffer you can scan. All of this is under CV control.

A central modulation 'LFO' that can be mapped to any knob except itself and can provide chaotic movement, typical LFO shapes, S&H and envelope following. Finally there's an FX section with a filter, resonator, echo and a weird reverb with lots of character. The individual elements aren't revolutionary, but as a combo they will make a lot of dreams come true.

How about nightmares? Don't worry, all FX can self resonate and when you make the Looper record itself, you can tear the fabric of the universe apart.
But you'll need to deliberately choose its dark side. I will definitely do a 'nightmare machine' video too! But not today. Today it's just too good to be true.

Oneiroi has a lot of character and many different 'faces'. It will make excellent first impressions, but at some point it feels like watching Titanic for the 10th time. The euphoria wears out. This only means it's time to bring something new to the stereo input. Then the excellence and euphoria will return in full force. Sweet dreams are made of this."
