OCTAVE CAT SRM I DEMO FOR MATT
video upload by Synth Tailor Electronics
"On Christmas Eve, a demo was released highlighting the wonderful, odd, and charismatic Vintage Synthesizer made by Octave Electronics, the CAT SRM (1978).
This crazy CAT SRM synthesizer packs quite a lot into it's package, and can be dialed up to make sweet, calm Cat sounds, or very weird Sci-Fi and Noise sounds.
This CAT SRM was just repaired and restored by our shop Synth Tailor Electronics, this video demo is for Matt from Sensorium Studios.
History on Octave Electronics (later Octave Plateau) CAT SRM:
In 1978 Octave upgraded the Cat to the "Series Revised Model "(aka SRM). This added several improvements, including an SSM2040 VCF, an LFO delay and a pedal input jack for offsetting the VCO1 frequency. The main improvement was the keyboard interface circuitry which included sample and hold circuits for both of the control voltages generated by the keyboard. On most duophonic synths of the era, there was only one sample and hold dedicated to the keyboard, so when playing duophonically, when the keys were released, the secondary control voltage would jump to the primary voltage, meaning that it was impossible to get duophonic notes in the envelope release phase. The Cat SRM would hold both control voltages, so a two-note chord would continue to sound as a chord through the release phase. This was an unusual feature for an analog duophonic keyboard and quite an improvement over competing designs.
If you have a vintage synthesizer, drum machine, piece of rare studio equipment, outboard gear or tape machine...please reach out via our website to send it in for repairs and restoration. Were based out of Columbus, Ohio and our website is: www.synthtailorelectronics.com"

Instruō - øchd Expander DIY tutorial && VCV Rack update
video upload by Instruō
"Hello!
Happy end of 2024 :)
I hope you've had a good year.
I would like to thank everyone that has supported Instruō this past year and previous years. The company has grown a lot since I was pottering about in my spare room.
I have the pleasure of working along side an incredible team.
A lot of the work these past few years has been very much behind the scenes.
2025 is going to be exciting! I'll leave it at that!
This is a video I've been meaning to do for a while. Since we launched the øchd expander.
The expander module itself was a really fun challenge. I wanted to utilise what the øchd generates in as efficient a way as possible to expand its utility.
Much of the theory behind it I prototyped in VCV rack. Especially the DAC section.
This is a full real time step by step of how to DIY the signal processes and outputs of the øchd expander.
There may be more efficient ways of achieving these and many modules out there provide the same utilities, but this is a collection of patches that I reach for then I need such things.
It's a bit technical, but I hope the video introduces some ideas for patches.
Thanks for watching!

Maria durch ein Dornwald ging ⭐
Maria durch ein Dornwald ging is a german-language advent carol from Eichsfeld, which was first published in 1850 and whose melody probably dates back to the 16th century.
played with the Moog Minimoog Synthesizer
Moog Taurus, Roland VP330 Vocoder Plus and PPG wave 2.2 🎹
The video sequences are made by me too. ✨
This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."
The living moment | MIDERA
video upload by MIDERA
"It's my birthday. I guess it is a happy day, as I'm here now. I kept my youngest from daycare so we could spend the day together, the whole family. Funny how when I was a kid, I'd get sick to my stomach I was so excited to open presents. Now I get sick to my stomach if I have to talk in front of groups of people. I guess that was a fun transition of excitement.
But here I am, getting to be with my family. Although it's hard not to recognize that the one that brought me here is no longer able to celebrate it with me. My mom didn't get to be with me during my last birthday either. I remember I had planned to visit her last year, but obviously everything happened and she ended up not making it to that point. So odd to think that she would give birth to me and 39.9 years later it would be over.
Well - I am still here - and I am with my kids hoping to give them what my parents gave me - a good upbringing. I suppose it's the only way to truly honor them. Yesterday, I took my kids sledding and we had a great time, until I fell and hurt my wrist. Can't wait for that to come back to haunt me, since everything hurts now.
This is probably also the first video to showcase my bald head. Another gift of aging. I think I have a few videos from 10+ years ago where I look younger and had hair. But again, aging means I'm still here and living in whatever moment is here. To be honest, shaving my head has been pretty liberating. I like not having to think about hair, worrying about whether I'm losing it, dealing with hat hair, all that crap.
Anyway, I'm hoping for a better year traveling around the sun. I hope you all experience the same.

Generative Beats Using Real Yamaha Chips: ARCANE
video upload by SPHERICAL SOUND SOCIETY
"ARCANE is a generative synth that lies somewhere between a synth, a sequencer and a drum machine, depending on how you interact with it.
It is based on an authentic Yamaha YM2413 FM chip; the one used in some arcade coin ops, MSX and in the japanese version of the Sega Master System.
You can order it here:
https://www.tindie.com/products/jc204...
To control it it has 6 potentiometers and 3 buttons. The pots are:
-TEMPO. It controls the tempo/speed.
-BASE REGISTER. It determines if the machine is more musical or glichy. Better left it around 3 o'clock position for more musical results. Turning it to the center and left side produces more noisy/glitchy and chaotic outputs. You have been prevented!
-INTENSITY. The higher this pot, the more amount of notes and percusions sounding. This is a very playable way of alter the generative composition by transitioning between the simple and complex sound patterns.
-SEQUENCE. It let you browse between sequences. Turn it to select random patterns.
-DISPERSION. the higher this pot, the most registers that we are writing on the chip, so the sequences get more complex and chaotic. This and intensity are a very playable pair and both are related. Once you tuned something that you like, try to do variations playing this pot and INTENSITY one.
-COMBINATION. It multiplex, demultiplex and recombines sequences, keeping the output related but always fresh and different. At minimun it produces a 16 step sequence. At maximun it produces a 8 steps sequence. Between is where the magic happens, and it recombines and produce generative patterns via bitshifting and logic operations of the sequences.
It has 3 buttons, Left, Right and Reset. Reset is located in the arduino and is self explanatory. If you have been playing in the BASE REG pot center/left side and it has turned too chaotic or noisy, just put BASE REG pot around 3 o'clock and press reset. It will come back to more musical landscapes.
Left and Right buttons are to be determined as the firmware is still in development.
It has Clock In and Clock Out so you can synch it with external gear. To accept external clock set TEMPO pot at minimun."

Motor Synth MkII and Synthstrom Deluge | downtempo synth performance
video upload by Jay Hosking
"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.
Full disclosure: Walrus sent me along the R1 MkII for free. I'm a big fan of their Slöer pedal and also really like the Meraki (both of which I bought with my own money), so I was happy to give the R1 MkII a spin. It's a decent workhorse pedal with full stereo, some cool algorithms (including a sort of granular-delay-reverb thing), and an easy interface. I think the Slöer is still the better pedal if you're choosing based on character/personality, but if you need versatility and a small footprint, the R1 MkII might be for you. I look forward to exploring it more!
Once again, the incredible Miles Away leant me some of his gear to try out. This time, it's the Motor Synth MkII. It's hard to justify at the price point and with a technology that is less known in terms of longevity, and it certainly has some quirks that won't be for some. But man alive, the Motor Synth sounds absolutely incredible: warbly, rich, binaural, capable of mellow lofi ambient all the way up to overdriven bananas cyberpunk. It's incredible.
Check out Miles Away's exploration of the Motor Synth MkII here, and be sure to check out the second jam (heavy industrial electro): • Is This The Most Unique Synth EVER???... [posted here]
Here, I leveraged the mellower side of the Motor Synth and paired it with the Deluge, which is a natural fit in terms of complementary sounds. The R1 MkII was the reverb on the Motor Synth and also was a perfect fit; there's something about the R1's algorithms that makes the good for fitting in a mix. And to glue the Deluge sound together and add a little more personality, I added the Chroma Console doing saturation, doubling, delay, and tape.
Thanks for listening.

Body Synths Metal Fetishist Percussion Synthesizer - SonicLAB Review

"Extra sounds demo on our http://patreon.com/sonicstate
@midierror takes look at the Body Synths Metal Fetishist - an unhinged noise box and percussion synthesizer, capable of making gut-wrenching beats, incendiary fx, and supercharged percussive elements.
It's a unique unit, which is the first release from Body Synths - a monophonic digital synthesizer with sequence generation, rather than a conventional step sequencer.
The combination of an oscillator, noise generator, filter, random modulation, and 2 on-board effects leads to many unexpected results and happy accidents - particularly if you like your sound dark and distorted.
