Stylophone CPM DS-2 Drone Synth Falling Star and Bubbles Patch Tutorial

video upload by I Love Cats and Synths

"Since my 'Falling Star' patch has been such a big hit, as well as the 'Bubbles' patch I used in my unboxing video, I made this tutorial showing how to create these sounds on your own CPM DS-2!

If you skip ahead in the chapters, you'll need the Falling Star patch set up before moving on to Bubbles.

Kursa - Arpoloop X Oto Boum X Elektron Syntakt Jam

video upload by KURSA.

"January 20th 2025

The arpoloop is a mysterious and somewhat bewildering beast that I am in no means an expert in operating yet. That being said, I find it's incredibly effective at creating slow building hypnotic compositions."

HWJ Weekend Challenge - Lynchian

"Maschine+

Jam loosely based on something from the final season of Twin Peaks (2017) at the Roadhouse. The original track is something David clearly loved."

The sound of Dave Smith´s Poly Evolver | No talking

"This is the sound of Dave Smith´s Poly Evolver with some reverb from Strymon´s 'Big Sky' and some Delay from Strymon´s 'Volante'.

No other hardware was used. No compressor, no limiter, no equalizer, nothing, but the pure Poly Evolver."

Blue Monday/New Order (edit) - Novation Circuit version

video upload by Guinan

"It's Monday so what could be more apt than todays Hacienda club classic, Blue Monday.
As per usual this is ALL Novation Circuit Tracks playing live from the headphone jack direct into my phone. No extra synths/no effects/no extra edits.

There is a lot going on in this track so I've squeezed a bit extra out of the groovebox in using some short melodic samples in place of drum sounds on 3 pads.

If people like this I'll do a '12" remix' version with the Novation Circuit Rhythm padding out the tracks. Let me know in the comments.

Details for synth nerds (extra video after the song);
I programmed the top arpeggio line on the Circuit Tracks quickly realising I was going to run out of voices. I sampled the riff and stuck it on a pad and played it back as a pattern and saved myself a voice,
I couldn't get a bass synth sound that would double up as the main synth and as Peter Hook. Instead I played a short twangy bass guitar (one of the old wooden ones with strings and stuff :P ) through a spring reverb in my best impression of Hooky and sampled it on the Circuit Rhythm. I then transferred this onto one of the drum sample pads and put it on Drum 4 as another pattern, finally there is a choir sample the band played on an old Emulator. I simply copied the same source they used ( ;) Google It!) and made a loop on another one of the drum pads, turning it into a 3rd pattern for Drum 4.

It all needs a bit more tweaking and arranging for the full version but this was sounding good so couldn't resist letting you have a listen."

Sequential DrumTraks 12-Voice Drum Machine SN 2521

"Fully programmable classic 80s digital EPROM-based drum machine, favored by the likes of Kevin Smith of Tame Impala, Chromeo, Daft Punk, and more. Great alternative to the increasingly common and perhaps now-overused LinnDrum sound. Includes all original stock EPROMs. These can be swapped for alternate sounds using existing EPROM chips, or chips from any of several chip burning services who can burn your custom samples onto chips for you — or DIY for those brave enough to tackle it.

Machine is in perfect working order with no issues. A few bumps, dents, and scrapes, but overall great condition, with only relatively light wear on wooden side panels. Newly pro serviced with jacks, pots, and buttons cleaned and lubed as needed, common points of failure inspected, reflowed where necessary and given the all-clear, and installation of a brand new internal battery holder and fresh battery. The battery powers the RAM while the machine is off to save your programs and patterns, and needs to be replaced every 5-7 years. The holder replaces a soldered-in battery and allows you to swap the battery without having to hand the machine off to a technician to remove the old one and solder in a new one."

Connecting the Stylophone Drone Synth to External Gear // Who Needs Envelopes Anyway?

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Retriggering slow LFOs can give you envelope style modulation. In this I demo how it works on the Stylophone CPM DS-2 drone synth.

It s super short video, but shows CV to pitch connections so I'm showing how to control the oscillator pitch with external eurorack modules, keys, sequencers etc."

Ambient w/ Moog Subharmonicon, Strymon Nightsky, Lofi Piano | Celestial Keyscape 2025-01-20 by atnr

video upload by atnr

"A piece created using the Moog Subharmonicon and a piano.

The Subharmonicon's tempo is set quite slow, and its output is routed through ‪@strymon‬ NIGHTSKY. On the NIGHTSKY, I apply deep reverb and adjust the filter.

On the CP-88, I use the acoustic piano sound, applying deep built-in reverb while processing the tone into a lo-fi character with ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ LOSSY."

Finally a working polyphonic MIDI to CV converter with auto tune.

video upload by Craig Barnes

"I've been working on this polyphonic MIDI to CV converter for about 2 years. I've built several other polyphonic MIDI to CV devices, but I needed an 8 note 16 bit device for accuracy. So previously signals like modulation, bend, interval, detune were all generated on separate CV lines. This converter combines all signals onto a single wire for each VCO and filter. So in total there are 24 CVs generated, 8 gates, 8 triggers, 8 velocity CV's, plus 8 spare CV lines if needed.

The Teensy has a feedback loop from each VCO via a 16 way mux chip and during auto tune each VCO in turn is fed into the Teensy and the frequency of 8 notes from each VCO is sampled and corrected against the correct frequency. The difference is then stored in a table and the remaining 120 corrections are extrapolated from the 8 samples. These are then stored into the SD card and reloaded at boot time.

It accepts 5 pin DIN MIDI and usb MIDI or it can act as a MIDI host to a usb keyboard. I hope to make it the basis of an 8 note analogue polysynth that actually stays in tune.

Functions are controllable over MIDI

BEST SYNTH PRESET EVER USED | ROLAND D-50 | "Soundtrack" Chord Progression | #1991 #Seal #Violet

video upload by Microflat

"Watch the central synth chord progression of Seal's 'Violet'. One of the most lush and beautiful songs ever produced, from his 1991 debut album "Seal". The song features the perfect use of the strangely complex and otherworldly eminent 'I-37 Soundtrack' preset of the Roland D-50. I added a) the 'I-47 Spacious Sweep' preset to enhance the flow of the song's key synthesizer intro elements as well as b) a bit of (my own) pitched vocal to emphasize the importance of the unique melody.

Video clips were recorded in 4K (60 fps) on a Panasonic Lumix GH5 and were edited in Adobe Premiere Pro running on a HP Zbook 15 G6. Audio was recorded in 96 KHz 32 bit directly into the Solid State Logic SSL 2+ USB-C audio interface via an Apple iPad Pro running Cubasis 3. Vocal was recorded in 48 KHz 24 bit directly into an iPhone 15 Pro Max. All audio output has been processed in Adobe Audition for optimal broadcasting."
