Overlooked Module #9: Din Sync SARA VCF

video upload by poorness studios

"I recently realized haven't done one of these Overlooked Modules episodes in quite some time and I've got a perfect module to add. Today, I'm taking a closer look at the SARA VCF from Din Sync. This is a dual-filter with some really interesting features. I really like it."

MadeOnEarth MOE Analog Chorus 60 - Pedal Clone of the Roland Juno-60 Chorus

videos uploaded by Isak Eliyahu

Playlist: 1. MOE - Analog Chorus vs Roland SH - 101
the MOE - Analog Chorus 60 is my latest pedal effect based on the Juno - 60 chorus with some add-ones.

1. Volume input.
2. Stereo width.
3. Modulation depth.
4. Modulation rate.
5. EXT CV in (LFO, ENV etc).
2. MOE - analog chorus 60 VS Yamaha DX7 and minimoog model D clone
3. MadeOnEarth Analog Chorus 60 VS Dinsync Gilbert
The Dinsync Gilbert is one of the fattest diy synths ive heard. combine the Gilbert with MOE's Analog Chorus 60 and you get a crazy bass monster!

via MadeOnEarth

The Analog Chorus 60 is a perfect clone of the original juno-60 chorus circuit.
It uses 2x "xvive mn3009" and the original Panasonic "2x mn3101" chips (rare parts!), original transistors 2SC1815, 2SA1015 and 2SK30A-GR with the exact same circuit.

Instead of the two buttons with only three rate modes, we added a knob to smoothly control the rate of the chorus, depth of the modulation and the stereo width. (the rate of the original modes is clearly printed around the rate knob for easy recreation of the original rates)

We also added ext lfo/cv input to apply other modulation sources and input gain to accommodate any type of instruments (guitars or synthesizers).
Housing in a high quality aluminum case with durable UV printing and high quality “Alpha” potentiometers.

RE-909 vs TR-909: Sunshine Jones' 909 (Reprise)

video upload by autoy

Update: video re-uploaded.

"I thought it would be good to make this comparison again after my RE-909 was finished. Since the last video there's been quite a few changes, the most important being the addition of the output caps (as per Roland TR-909 service manual) and the replica of the original transformer. With these I consider the RE to be pretty much a 909 but I let you judge by the video.

Of note: there are 5 hardware revisions of the TR-909 two of which really affect the sound. Most of the RE-909 builds will sound like earlier models but with the later bass drum, hence slight differences depending on which models you compare it to. Original vintage Mitsubishi OPamps, several key original transistors and original Roland BA662 have been used in this build.

Thanks again to Sushine Jones for providing the video and samples and thanks for watching."

"'It's not a clone, it's a replica!'

A clone is a hardware that is made differently, with different parts and technology (SMD, OpAmp etc.) than older devices, but should sound similar. And sometimes does not sound so similar. The RE-303 ist something different, it is a replica. That means (with few exceptions) the original parts are used and also the mounting technology. In consequence there is no manual, because you can use the original manual. from the internet :)

Creating such a replica is done in handwork, because the electronic factories use more modern technology mostly. In result the device sounds like an original TB-303, I can notice the phasey trippy deepness in it, while clones are a bit shallow. But you don't have to maintain a decades old device and everything is still robust and durable.

This piece is as far as one can get to a real TB-303 because it also uses a replica of the CPU. Not all DinSync RE-303 replicas do this. (It is a sunflowr/recpu that is a replica of the CPU firmware with the same usage. More original than other choices, also in the quirks.).

The color is black and the LEDs are green, the housing is made of metal.

I used it in almost every track, but times are hard for musicians these days.

You can hear it in action in my latest tracks. Almost all have it somewhere, if there's a 303 inside, it's this unit."

Dinsync Gilbert

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Here is a Dinsync Gilbert professionally built and calibrated. It has some useful mods too.

Switch to select faster or slower lfo rate. Allows Lfo to get into audio frequencies

Switch to set lfo shape to modulate pwm independent of lfo setting

3 pots to control level of waveform and noise so you can easily mix all waveforms simultaneously (like the sh101) VCF keyboard tracking amount.

Gilbert is a small format analog monosynth inspired by what we consider to be some of the best era of Roland™ machines from the late 70s/early 80s. It has a nice “rubbery” tone that will be familiar to all acid aficionados and makes a great supporting voice for your RE-303. Gilbert can be thought of in a couple of ways. On one hand you have a fully fledged analog monosynth and on the other hand due to its I/O connections you could think of Gilbert as a eurorack module in a synthesizer format. Of course combinations of both also work, anything is possible. It's pretty much a modular sh101."

"A modified Roland TR-707 with custom eproms. This adds 8 banks of sounds. There is also pitch control for the instruments with CV. Some bends as well. Jamming with the Dinsync RE-303. Here an LFO is modulating a couple of the 707 instrument pitches."

Concentric Rings of Feedback

poorness studios

"I was just messing around and somehow create a patch that is just rings of feedback. The Sara VCF (in self-oscillation) is the only sound source and it goes into the Resonant EQ, then into the Chronoblob, and finally into Typhoon. Each module adds another feedback loop. It's nothing special but I felt like I had to share this."

Dinsync Gilbert Analog Synthesizer

"DinSync (Paul Barker) is the DIY synthesizer genius behind the RE-303 replica of the Roland TB-303. The Gilbert is his own design to recreate the sounds the equally famous Roland SH-101. Yes, it sounds just like the originals - AMAZING!

Professionally built and fully calibrated using precision equipment. This is a backup unit that has been in storage. It's only been used twice and has been fully tested and is ready to rock.

Use Gilbert with the sequencer of your choice! Use it with a MIDI sequencer using a MIDI/CV converter (check my other auction: Syntecno Teebee 303 clone with MIDI/CV converter.)

"Black metal case. Black knobs with laser green LEDs. It's a beauty... and sounds spot on as well!

I've owned a few TB-303s, as well as an Avalon and a couple x0xb0xes over the years and this 303 is the closest sounding one to the original. Absolute beast.

It was professionally made by a well trained engineer in early 2019, using original and rare parts to create the best replica imaginable. It features the Sonic Potions RE-303 CPU, which ... in my opinion, is amazing. Lots more options than the original CPU for sure."

Roland TB 303 / TR 606 Blank Case & Decals

Another one spotted and sent in via M Me.

Translated from the listing:

"The case was once planned for a RE 303 .... unfortunately I'm no longer there

The 303/606 case comes from a 606 - so no 3D printing and no TT303 housing.
I painted the part white - the new owner can still paint it.
The case is complete with battery flap and screws.

There is also an Aluminum Button Panel (purchased bought outside RE303 shop) for a TB / RE 303 and a TB 303 foil [ decal ]"
